  • Ford Mondeo Mk5, Faulty Injectors.
    Diesel fuel injectors on the ford mondeo mk5 are leaking too much fuel back to the fuel tank.
    A diesel fuel injector leak off test is needed to diagnose a faulty injector.

    Alan I'll miss your mondi vids. I thoroughly wish you the best on your next adventure. Keep safe over there.. maybe you could get a job teaching in a mechanic college, I spent a lot of time in SE Asia and I know a french lad doing this in Cambodia. Your knowledge is out of this world and should be passed on. Take care Alan. Your class.

    After changing the fuel filter, I now have to check my injectors in order to find out which one is the culprit.
    Thank you so much for all the content you are putting on TH-cam!

    Many many many thanks Alan for all your videos. I also have a Mondeo mk5 2.0 TDCI 150 and your videos helped me a lot in a similar injection issue (with P0087, P228C, P0251 error codes in my historic DTC...). I'm not a mechanic at all, never done that before but I disassembled my 4 injectors and opened them and cleaned them. Now, no more limp mode and leak off (guy at Ford garage tells me there were 3 bars of pressure in the leak off pipes...) Without replace them for a lot of bucks...! (But I agree, it's crap a mess to access to them without breaking all the plastic fixations, but with taking time, they are all fine...)

    Good news Alan.
    I have just replaced all 4 of them on my mk4 DW10C they were second hand ones. They are just a little noise and im considering found diesel purge with liquid molly, hopfly this will not harm them.
    Leak of test on this ones has proven they are good.
    Thanks All for making this videos.

      was well until after the recent service where there is a bit of top end vibration.

    I remember my old mk3 petrol mondeo I bought a brand new set of petrol injectors, proper bosche ones for £19! The gentleman had a surplus of duratec engines and was braking them all up for parts. Normally they're about £17 each... I know a diesel injector is a lot more complex and has to withstand the huge fuel pressure that's created by the pump and they are a lot more expensive. I had a chance to buy a titanium x diesel that was an ex fleet car which had full service history but I thought there's a lot to go wrong. My petrol mk4 is now hitting 37mpg on a regular basis. If I need more mpg I'll have a prinns lpg fitted.

    I'm sure part of the problem is the low sulphur content in diesel fuel now and the increased pressures and tolerances within the diesel system.Although they say there are added lubricating packages added to replace the lubricating effect of sulphur im not so sure.
    I agree that the automotive world seems to be taking a step back on reliability for refinement

    Alan you are awesome! :) love all your videos. i dont have mk5 i have mk3, tbh i have x-type 2.0d (even worse) but i do agree that the fuel system is the biggest problem of these cars. i would love to chat with you about my never ending issues with my 2 x-type (both not running at the present moment) and I believe that im very tempted to burn both for a nice cold night... anyway, my point here is, do you know how to open the injectors to clean the top part of injectors (where the electrical part is installed)? thanks to you i have accomplished to remove them, open them, clean the return valve and the tip but after installing back the car starts (with bumps) and after few minutes in idle will dye and never start again until i repeat the process. the fuel pump is ok, the filter has 1 year and around 10.000kms, but i did used these injectors for 60km (not 60k!) in another car and they became faulty (my guess is that the injector got swarf from the other car and now somehow i cant clean it properly). I also know i should buy new replacements but these cars have no value at all and i dont mind to test, learn, trial and error, and find out how can i go around this. sorry for this long speech. stay safe and thank you!

    Hi Alan great videos as always. I have a question which is not related to this video. My mondeo mk4 has been losing coolant steadily and there is no visible leaks or cream cheese in the oil filler cap. I've done some research and found it to be a few possible causes. Firstly head gasket and secondly egr valve. If the head gasket had gone would I always expect to see cream cheese in the oil filler cap? The car runs smoothly and drives perfect, secondly if the egr valve is the cause how would I check this? This problem has me stumped and have always received good advice from you in the past. Regards Wayne

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, there is a test involving holding a bottle of fluid over your expansion tank to test the head gasket but i have never had a head gasket leak on a mondeo for many years now, nor have i had a egr problem on the 2litre peugeot mk4 engines... really need to know what engine it is...and check radiator down the sides...they can seep without dripping on the floor

    Can a faulty injectors cause excessive engine vibrations and noise? I have 2.0 mk5 Mondeo, and after changing flywheel and all of the engine mounts, the issue with vibration is still present.

      @@coskea8260 hi. No, the problem is still present. In meantime, I've changed the alternator and crankshaft pulleys, and again checked injectors. Unfortunately, it seems that vibrations affected the transmission, since it developed some noise. Most probably, some transmission bearings are damaged.

    I suppose it depends on many factors , mileage , if it's been remapped , the emissions systems have been messed with , blocked etc , the down the psa group share engines with Ford , so the psa problems are with Ford too , when the psa group find an issue with something they usually modify it , I tend to to see ford still selling the same thing , what ever it may be.

    Mk 4 mondeo was euro 4 I think 💭... those injectors would open two ish 🤔times per stroke circle .. mk 5 is euro 5/6 these injectors work much harder for a cleaner combustion they open 3/4 times stroke circle . For pre ignition main ignition post ignition.... so basically work twice as much i think ..

    • @martinhardy3932
      @martinhardy3932 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't enter the individual injector correction codes you may notice some rough running and annoying noise cause by injection timing error and poor cylinder balance. On the other hand there is a statistical possibility that you will get away without doing so - it just comes down to individual component manufacturing tolerances.

    What a pity that Ford do not listen to Alan's feedback, if they did then EGR valves would have an Aluminium body with replaceable motor, thermostat housings would be Aluminium and other issues would be fixed !
