All French engines find ways to leak oil. I've never seen a dry one. I've got an ancient XN engine in a Talbot that leaks a small amount from a few spots, I've also got a BX with an XUD that leaks pretty badly, and all TU engines will leak from the rocker cover. I've seen them piss oil from the head gasket too when they get very old. I've not come across a Mk3 Mondeo that leaks oil yet. I'm sure they're out there but all the ones I know are dry as a bone. They tend to burn oil rather than leak it.
Hi Alan, you my man are legend. Great vid, I need to do the intermidiate gear housing leak on my 2016 - 2 litre kuga. Is the principle the same, with just a few hose position differences? Also will I be able to remove top belt cover without removing the engine mount to time up exhaust cam? Regards. Tony
hi anthony, yes if you have the same engine it will be the same procedure ..just in a kuga body shell, not sure about the kuga engine mount but if it is the same as on the mondeo you do need to remove the mount to get the top cover off but you can put a jack with some soft padding under your sump to support the engine while the mount is off
@@alan4x Hi again Alan, thanks for the reply. Regarding the pump to camshaft timing,,, is this because as you would withdraw the pump in any position - I guess it could kick rotate due to the spring pressure from the pump. So my point is,, is there any point in chancing not timing the cam as the engine crank would be stationary? Also,,, I see that the inner gasket does not have sufficient /even bolt down force around the oil feed area. A 3 bolt 120 degree would have been a better arrangement in this area. I was going to chance a very fine smear of hylomar sealent around the outside of the embossed oil feed area as a back up. What do you think? Regards. Anthony
Alan ..but if you put the gasket parts together with Victor Reinz oil silicon it is not better ? I ask you because as soon i want to made this operation because i have a liitle oil leak arround the case high pressure pump !
Is there a video of when you removed the oil pump and fuel pump? Also do you think it will be ok if I put some sealant on the gasket to stop it leaking in the future?
hello, mine is the mondeo mk5 2.0 tdci 150cv of the year 2015, it leaks oil from the injection or high pressure pump. I understand that changing the joints solves the problem, right? Or do I have to directly change the pump? Thank you
I'd be adding a smear of hydraulic fitting seal to those crushable gaskets before fitting them, to both sides of each gasket. Them steel gaskets will leach oil slowly, sure as night follows day if there is any oil pressure whatsoever on them.
Hi Alan. Any chance to tell me how can i fix 1.6 tdci mk5 mondeo oil leak near injectors? Any chance to do it my self or i need a specialist? Thank you.
Hey Alan, I am really starting to enjoy your videos :) and I am serious :) so as for the HPP gasket leak I was wondering if that applies to the MK4 2.0l tdci as well since I've had 3 fords with this engine (galaxy and 2 kugas 2010-2014) and they all seem to leak oil from around this area so I suspect the same problem. If this is the case do you have the part numbers for this gaskets? I believe they are slightly different in shape from the MK5. Thank you in advance and keep up the good videos. Cheers!
Uneven clamping force, just look at the bolt spacing around the oil way! I see this all the time these days. Mini/Citroen/Peugeot and BMW all do the same but compound the problem using plastic components instead of metal castings , double trouble, leaks aplenty.
Hi Alan, I have the same oil leak issue, can you please give me a Ford parts numbers and a link where find this parts and also a video to do the fix thanks
Hi Alan, many thanks for replying (your a star 🌟) I upgraded the rear tail lights to the new design and are now all LED - they flash as normal outside its just the green arrow and noise are twice as fast. Any further help would be greatly received. 👍
need to add a ballast resistors to compensate for the missing bulb resistance. Get the same problem with many cars/motorcycles when you swap to a LED bulb if they dont have a purely electronic turn signal controller. The resistance in the bulb acts as part of a timing circuit but when you remove the bulb and swap to a LED the resistance drops thus the timing cycle becomes shorter.
@@LinuxGalore thanks so much for the great advice. In fact I've bought 10w resistors as that was the eating if the old lamp so hope once there fitted all will be ok. Thanks again Phil
Thanks Alan - at 74k miles the 'fuel pump' oil leak has got so bad on my 2.0L Mondie I need to replace the gaskets. Any advice on the torque settings for the 2 gaskets?
Hi - thanks for the video it is really helpful. I think I have exactly this issue with my 2018 Kuga 2.0 TDCi. I'm wondering 3 things: 1. Where would you reccomend sourcing the gaskets from and do you happen to have any part numbers for them. 2. Where can you source the O ring from? 3. Have you ever done this on a ford kuga, the fuel pump is a real pain to access and I was wondering if you might have any advice? Thanks
I would definitely buy the gaskets and o ring from your ford parts dealer and the part numbers are in the video at 11.46 minutes. once the battery and tray is out of the way and remove the windscreen wipers and scuttle panel at bottom of windscreen. on a kuga it is pretty straight forward to remove the pump
@@alan4xthanks! Interesting that you say it’s not terrible on a Kuga (Mk2), the Haynes manual goes on about it being a bit of a painful job. I find it interesting that you say you expect it to start leaking again not long after replacement. I saw a few comments about using some loctite gasket maker (574), have you had any luck with that or any other techniques for making the repair last? Thanks
@@alan4x Thanks for the advice. Both gaskets arrived from Ford today along with the O ring (£18 all in). Tomorrows job is to fit them. I'm hoping it isn't too bad of a job but we shall see. Haynes reccomends removing the auxillary belt and fully draining the coolant before doing this job but I can't see the need to do those bits. Am I overlooking something?
@@Sams-Shednever had to remove the aux belt or drain the coolant in order to remove the high pressure pump although when sliding the pump off it will hit a heater hose on the thermostat housing but you can bend the hose and it will clear.
@@alan4x Thanks for the advice here Alan. I did mine yesterday and it took me about 3.5 hours - not terrible for the first go. Really useful advice and your videos were very helpful. I used some 5922 flange sealant to dress the new gaskets before installation and reassembly in the hope that it might help them last a bit longer, i've been reading around that they sometimes last as little as 30k miles before going again. I have done a comprehensive write up on the Kuga Owners Club and Ford Owners Club forums for anyone else who is interested in doing this job.
Guess it’s not helped by the fact these have to take super thin 0w30 oil serviced one the other week couldn’t believe they have to take such thin oil in these newer Mondeo s!!

How long after replacing the gasket you would expect to see it leaking again or have you found a more permanent fix to the issue? I am considering to buy a Mk5 but to be honest this video has put me off slightly..
I've got some oil sweat on a 2.0 tdci, but a 2012 mk4. It starts a bit lower on the pump side and goes down at the back and could never see where it's from. But watching this, I'm very sure it's around the fuel pump now. It's only just oil sweat, no dripping, so it's safe for now. But is this generally true for the mk4 as well?
Use loctite 574 together with the gasket. It will never leak again!
Good idea, but is it safe? If there is a lot of oil pressure, is there any chance to loctite gets into the oil bus, and make damage, or clog any oil channel?

After taking out the battery and with a lot of scratches on my hand later i was able to take it out :). Hope tomorrow i will do second part and disconnect all the fuel hoses and take out the pump. Do i need to be worry about air stuck inside fuel pump after fixing it ? Or it's different in MK5 than in MK4 and electric pump will do the job so after fixing pump i just need to start the car and be happy that oil finally stopped leaking ?
@@MrDiegulec
yes it will self bleed and the pump will push the fuel so it should start pretty easily

I had ford galaxy 2016 2 litre Diesel engine brand new and I use it for a taxi now it is 113000 mile I am sure it is same engine like mond Mk5 ??
I got same oil leak problem! Do you think you can fix this for me ??
Many thanks
All French engines find ways to leak oil. I've never seen a dry one. I've got an ancient XN engine in a Talbot that leaks a small amount from a few spots, I've also got a BX with an XUD that leaks pretty badly, and all TU engines will leak from the rocker cover. I've seen them piss oil from the head gasket too when they get very old.
I've not come across a Mk3 Mondeo that leaks oil yet. I'm sure they're out there but all the ones I know are dry as a bone. They tend to burn oil rather than leak it.
For Alan. Do you know if the 1.5 tdci has the same problem?
1.5 Has a oil in the air intake hose just after the air filter, which Ford told me that is a "normal"
Regards. Tony
hi anthony, yes if you have the same engine it will be the same procedure ..just in a kuga body shell,
not sure about the kuga engine mount but if it is the same as on the mondeo you do need to remove the mount to get the top cover off but you can put a jack with some soft padding under your sump to support the engine while the mount is off
@@alan4x
Hi again Alan, thanks for the reply.
Did you did it?
Hi Alan. Any chance to tell me how can i fix 1.6 tdci mk5 mondeo oil leak near injectors?
Any chance to do it my self or i need a specialist?
Thank you.
great video, and the beautiful Miss M looking pretty (sorry...) stunning in pink
Cheers!
My mk2.5 kuga is leaking/burning oil. Has been since I owned it. 3 garages can't find the issue. Help please!
Thanks again
Phil
Thanks Alan - at 74k miles the 'fuel pump' oil leak has got so bad on my 2.0L Mondie I need to replace the gaskets. Any advice on the torque settings for the 2 gaskets?
thats a feature of preventing rust
lol
Great vid. As always.
Hi Alan, please tell me the exact codes or names of the gaskets. I have the same problem and I want to change them. Thank you
Did you find these anywhere?
All are on the end of the video !
Hi - thanks for the video it is really helpful. I think I have exactly this issue with my 2018 Kuga 2.0 TDCi. I'm wondering 3 things:
Hi Alan. Is the high pressure fuel pump removal easy enough to tackle ? Think my ST Focus is doing this now.
Guess it’s not helped by the fact these have to take super thin 0w30 oil serviced one the other week couldn’t believe they have to take such thin oil in these newer Mondeo s!!
do you have a video for that rear rocker hose leak?
Hello! I have the same problem, oil is leaking from the fuel pump, can I work without touching the timing belt?
Alan, does the mk4.5 , 163, suffer a similar problem? It's just that I seem to have a leak somewhere at back of the fuel pump. Thank you.
not normally, i have had mk4 models leak from the camshaft cover at the rear but replacing the pump gasket would be an easier option to change first
@@alan4x Thank you Alan.
@@alan4x Hi , please tell me the exact codes or names of the gaskets. I have the same problem and I want to change them. Thank you
Still missing you throwing the crap parts in the Bin
But in this case they won't neither fly nor make any noise ;-)
Hello..Does these parts have a certain installation method for the gears??
Great video :) my mondeo mk4 leaks a bit of oil from round the turbo area, do you know if this is common? Is it hard to get to the banjo bolt? Thanks Alan
i would get it checked first to see exactly where it is leaking..anything turbo related is not exactly easy to get to
Great video again 👍
class m8 keep them rolling
Alan great video would the 2.2 puma in a mk7 transit have a similar known leak at the back of the engine. Ive got one at the back of the block that looks like could be crank seal but might be from above? Thanks again and great videos.
hi, those engines are a totally different set up.... it could be rear main seal but if higher up i would be looking at the rubber rocker cover gasket which may have gone brittle and seeping oil
How long does it take to replace the gaskets and o ring? My dealer has just told me mines leaking and they want to fit a new fuel pump, they say the oil goes through them..... Over £900 for the pump + 3 hrs labour lol.
Does this Apply on a s-max 2011? Or is that considered a mk4 engine?
no you would have a different engine on a 2011 so does not apply
@@alan4x Thanks mate, Love the channel!
try painting the old gasket with silver paint, thats what we use to do with that type of gasket in fords mk1 zephyr head
painting with silver paint??? Is it an especial paint? Care to explain please?
@@coolissimo69 mk 1 zephyr gaskets were an embossed metal gasket that worked like a crush washer, to reuse one that was not burned through, you could paint it with silver paint and it would work, this was in the 60s so it was probably an oil based paint back then

All the numbers are on the end of the video, watch to the end !
Top video mate 👍
Hi alan, what do I have to look out for? I have the problem now with oil ????
You are the Best👍
Don't know why you don't add some sealant to the gasket or make your own just to try and experiment
Many years ago when fixing automatic gearboxes on buses we had major leaks on fluid flywheels with a known gasket so we added a touch of loctite 518 and it was far better then we ditched the gasket just added sealant and they where bone dry
Costs a few taxi fares but cheap as chips when your work for a bus company that needs reliability
Beware pantomime is around the corner
Brought a smile.... As its just stopped raining and just finished my ark. Typical
i was wandering same,but,keeps him in work..eh..
I did the same on all bus gearboxes and engines. It's used everyday now on trucks. I hate repairing stuff. Life is too short.
I was thinking the same, but then if something went wrong it would invalidate the warranty and Ford wouldn't want to know..
Alan, does this problem also occur on automatic gearbox? I am considering buying a mondeo 2016-02 WAG AUT (2.0 TDCI) with 205000 km., dealer maintained. Are there other things I should pay attention to?
if you get a 2litre diesel whether its auto or manual it will still have the same high pressure fuel pump
Thank you very much!
Hi Alan i was a Ford parts man for years and they are called part finis codes a wee bit of trivia there, your video is as always informative and entertain with some very nice Monica particularisation, i drive a 2004 ex police transit connect with 52000 miles 1.8 tdci engine its going great do you know of any weaknesses in this van.
not had much to do with connect vans but the one i have seen was reliable and no issues but i not been around enough to know really
This problem also for mk5 2.0 autom gearbox?
Awesome video, subbed right away, funny af as you sled down the ladder gta IV style 😂😂 thanks bud
thanks
How long after replacing the gasket you would expect to see it leaking again or have you found a more permanent fix to the issue? I am considering to buy a Mk5 but to be honest this video has put me off slightly..
Hi Alan.
I’ve got a Ford Galaxy 2.0 diesel, 2016
Have I the same engine as the Mondeo?
Yes it does if is a 2.0tdci engine.
Does this also apply to the mk4 with PSA 2.2?
Looks like the crushable area around the slot on the gasket is too far away from one of the bolts. At least job security for Ford mechanics.
But is this generally true for the mk4 as well?
the pump on your car will have a thick gasket which can leak a small amount but usually nothing to worry about unlike the mk5 which leak a lot more
@@alan4x thanks Alan. Btw I'm visiting UK soon, maybe I'll drop by and have a selfie together :)) really enjoy your clips, nice work!
which year model includes these problems?
2015 onwards
