All though it may be easier if you don’t have the compression tool you can use needle nose pliers to push and twist the pistons, they will compress fairly easy.
That shit was hard as hell. My shit was so fucked, I had to disconnect my caliper from the brake line and that damn parking brake cable was a bitch to get off. I had to use the tool to twist the shit back in.
Do the boot on the rear calipers around the piston have to be completely flush with the piston or can it be slightly above the piston upon reinstalling?
Hey thanks for reaching out! I believe the one I used in this video was from Harbor Freight. I no longer use that one because it did not last very long. I bought a craftsman about a year ago and it's still working. Here are the links for both a 3/8ths drive and 1/2" drive: 3/8" up to 100 ft. lbs.: amzn.to/3X9v3fn 1/2" up to 250 ft. lbs.: amzn.to/3MszwFa
@@TrickShiftGarage thank you so much and completely unrelated but, I’m removing my exhaust and between the cat and mid muffler there’s a clamp. I took the nuts off the two bolts but still haveing problems removing it and can’t find any videos. Any advice short of an angle grinder?
Yea I remember I ran into that when I installed my catback. There are these little metal tabs that you need to bend outwards. Then, you gotta deal with some rust holding it together. Just wiggle it and it will eventually come apart. It just takes a little bit of time.
I bought second hand calipers so I’m not sure which way the squeal pins goes, would you remember by any chance? On the inner or outer side of the rotor?
Hello Ivan! These are actually the Z23 powerstop package. I believe it was around $500 on Rock Auto (cross drilled and slotted rotors, carbin fiber ceramic pads, and hardward). Thanks for watching!
Hello Anthony! To be honest, I can't remember. I didn't really pay attention to the size I was choosing. I just kept trying out different fittings until one fit in the slots of the piston. I do apologize that I didn't put that on camera. I'm sure it would have helped, but I will make sure any future video contains that type of information.
To be 100% honest I didn't have the car long enough to see if they warped or not. The only time it rusted was if I left it in the parking lot for a week after it rained. Other than that they always looked great!

Just be careful around the piston seal and you should be fine. Thanks for watching! 🤟

Awesome video man! Cant thank you enough for providing torque specs.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment ARG! We appreciate it! 🤟
Do you need to bleed the brakes or open the reservoir cap ? When doing this ??
You don't need to bleed the brakes, but you should definitely loosen the cap and keep an eye on the level as you compress the pistons in the calipers.
why not a c clamp for rear pistons?
oh it twists?? jeez
Yea Ford is famous for doing that on their vehicles. Makes you buy a special tool to get them compressed.
@@TrickShiftGarage yeah my mustang is due and luckily i caught when you mentioned the special tool haha. harbor freight here i come lol
Lol good choice!
because on the rear calipers the pistons are screw type. Front is C-clamp.
Do the boot on the rear calipers around the piston have to be completely flush with the piston or can it be slightly above the piston upon reinstalling?
Its gotta be very close to being flush or else the pins won't align properly.
What torque wrench did you use the one I have doesn’t particularly fit in the wheel well

Hello Simon! I believe they go on the inside of the rotor.
So these are like modern cadillac front brakes.
They operate very similarly, I believe.
Funny you say this. Cuz my daily driver is a 16 CTS and my fun car is a 21 Mustang Convertible.
Are those power stops with z26 pads? How do you like them?
Hello Ivan! These are actually the Z23 powerstop package. I believe it was around $500 on Rock Auto (cross drilled and slotted rotors, carbin fiber ceramic pads, and hardward). Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thank you Felipe! 🤟
next time keep pads when compressing the front brake calipers to guarantee no damage to caliper boots ;-)
Very good point! I always seem to take them out lol. But thanks for the reminder! 🤟
That's what i like about fixed calipers. just squeeze a flathead in there against the pads, easy peazy
You can also use a needle nose to twist in in
Very good point! 🤟
What size did you use for the brake caliper compressor?

@@TrickShiftGarage No worries man your video was one of the best of explaining and showing how to do this installation. Really appreciate your help👍
@@anthony_707 thanks dude we really appreciate that! And thanks for watching! 🤟
What brake kit did you put on this car?
Hello Bryan! I believe they are called Powerstop Z26. I left a link in the description if you want to easily access it. Thanks for watching! 🤟
@@TrickShiftGarage these or the z23 are the ones I was looking at any problems like rusting to fast or warping with these?
To be 100% honest I didn't have the car long enough to see if they warped or not. The only time it rusted was if I left it in the parking lot for a week after it rained. Other than that they always looked great!
And the rust went away immediately after driving it, so it didn't really bother me too much.
@@TrickShiftGarage I have that happen with stock rotors so I’m not to worried then.
Am I the only one that Hear John Cena voice 😂😂
🤣 that's the first time I see someone mention him!
Yeah pretty close to Cena's voice bro nice observation
Lol that's wild. I've never been compared to him before and now I can't unhear it 🤣
That explains why I didn't see him in video.
🤣
Am I the only one whose rotor won’t come off ?????
You may need to use a Mallet to get them off. Fords are famous for seizing.
Why didn't you clean and re-lubricate the rear slider pins, you right there???
You're right, I should have. There were quite a few things I should have done differently in this video.
stop using brake cleaner with your bare hands
Why?
