I've been watching doug and linus since early 2010s and now to see them collab just when mkbhd is speeding in a school zone is a thing. What a time to be alive.
Yeah it was pretty bad. Yes, ultra wide and triple screen setups do have higher fov values but what they had was way too high. I think they probably did try to get the correct value but didn't account for the fact their ultra wide monitor doesn't actually wrap around to the side of their vision like a triple monitor setup would. If they used triple monitors or a more curved screen at the same length/width it probably wouldn't be as bad with that fov. Good fov calculators actually take into account the curvature angle of your screen and the angle your triple monitors are when it does the msthmatical calculation.
That honestly was on my mind the second i saw the FOV. That was beyond terrible, because this was not just a little off for nitpicking. This was so far off that it would make judging corners etc really hard and driving in general just very unpleasant. But i assume they might have had some issues setting that wide monitor up.
@@XCougar85X what really bothered me was that it was $18k spent on this. Like really? $18k and you only get CRP pedals from Moza? At that price point it should have been all Simucube top of the line setup not this. Nothing against Moza, I have it and love it but lol, $18k for this setup that I have similar setup for as low as $5k and I have triple 32" + VR instead of a single ultra wide monitor.
I don't know exactly how many years for me but I have to be similar. Watching Doug since around the ferrari videos and linus since they were in the house, i don't remember for sure.
Yup, love the sim racing content but I don't think I've seen them address field of view once. Bit of a shame because IMO it makes more of a difference in realism and immersion than the quality of gear, the addition of motion/butt kickers, etc.
It really throws everything off. I feel like Doug will never use this. With an FOV like that, this is really just to have in a room as a show piece. Ultrawide just can't replace triples or VR right now, unless it has a ridiculous curvature and resolution. It would literally look like ∩
It's a real shame because getting FOV dialed in correctly takes a sim racing experience from mediocre to absolutely mind blowing. Been in the hobby for a few years now and even minor changes can have a huge impact on your experience.
It's awesome to see more and more people getting into sim racing. Biggest thing that is generally overlooked is the correct FOV settings. Having the FOV correct will help with depth and overall perception. That way you can navigate courses better and know where other cars are on track.
The Buttkickers are not supposed to "rumble along the audio". You have to install Simhub (free, or paid), then configure it for different effects. Anything form ABS kicking in, or slipping, or road texture, or even that odd "kick" on every shift. It works fine with any 4 channel USB audio sound card. If the Steel series is USB, you can configure simhub to use the PC's build-in 5.1 or 7.1 connections. Else, get a cheap USB card and call it a day. Actually, the last thing you want is for it to constantly "rumble" as it will kill all the other effects that become very important parts when you start to feel your rig.
I came here to mention Simhub. I got myself the Next Level Racing Haptic seat for my fold up vr rig, and it is FREAKING AMAZING with simhub. Also incredible with flight simulator!
The telemetry data that simhub sends to the kickers is essentially "sound" waves, i think they are using simhub given how they weren't on full blast for the whole drive. Doug was doing surprisingly well for his first time ever
Quick tip! when it comes to Force Feedback through Moza Pit House, you want to keep your intensity at 100%.. This will assure that you are getting the full range of FFB feel (smaller Forces are easier to pick apart from heavier forces, rather than the range of FFB being Compressed) Then in Assetto Corsa, adjust your FFB Gain% and finally your per vehicle FFB% (with dougs wheel he would want to run his Assetto corsa Gain at around 30-40% and per vehicle Gain to be adjusted to his liking on track using the "-" and "+" keys). Hope that helps!
Thank you! Was about to say the same. In the driver menu (Moza Pit House) you select the dynamic range, in the game/sim you select how much max force of that dynamic range you want to have. The more dynamic range, the more granularity even in low forces.
