- 2008 Honda Accord 3.5 V6. This vehicle had a tick noise that increased with engine RPM, removal of engine valve covers to inspect valve lash and i found bad camshaft lobes. Changing both cam shafts can be done in vehicle
I wish you would have made a video on changing the rocker arm.
Que ruido ocasionaba esa falla??
You are a blessing on this earth, I was worried I would have to pull heads
What was the noise like?
My 08 Odyssey Touring (J35a7 with VCM) is making some pretty loud ticking noises in the front head also, (it not timing tensioner as some will say). Did the cam and roller rocker swap fix your ticking problem?
Yup, all engine noise was gone after repair
@@shanewalsh5493 Thanks for the reply. Surprisingly there isnt a whole of info online about J35 cam wear and loud ticking noises. Its always about the timing tensioner. Now I'm having trouble finding a good used cam. Will probably have to order a new OEM one and wait. I'm debating on if i need to just arbitrarily buy new rockers, rocker shaft and rocker bridge assembly. What all did you buy?
All Honda OEM stuff camshafts are cheap. I only changed the camshafts and damaged rockers.
Old video but I'm in the same boat with my 2012 odyssey. Replaced the timing belt tensioner (it was bad), adjusted valves (out of spec), still ticking. Instead of a clattering it was down to a single click that was about half the rpm. After listening to the valve cover with a large screwdriver to my ear, I found the sound in the front valve cover. Took the front cover back off and sure enough one cam lobe and one rocker are damaged.
What noise did that failure cause?
Gm I have a ? I was doing timming belt work om 2012 crosstour the top dead center lined up at 12 o'clock n the front camshaft line up its mark buy the rear one won't go back to its timming mark its still one tooth off
So what causes the camshaft to become damaged in the 1st place??
Lack of oil changes?? Etc
Yeah i think so, or the engine oil level has been low. Also could be wrong type of oil used.
Vcm
Do you know if you can get both cams out of a 2010 Pilot in the car? I know I can get the front out, but not sure of the rear. Both cam lobes are pitted. Can't get front cam from Honda anymore. Tried getting used heads from salvage yards. All of those had bad cams also. Going to try a reman'd head from parts store, and just take the cam out, and whichever rockers I'll need to replace due to pitting. Rear cam is supposedly still available
Not sure if you can, it was a tight fit on this model. Sucks to hear that they don't make them anymore..
@@shanewalsh5493 yes, it's a shame. This engine was used on so many models for so many years. It's a 2010 pilot, it's not that old! It's an auction car somebody bought. When he told me it taps, I thought right away, auction car, probably needs a cam. I've done them before when I worked for Honda, but never had to do a rear one. So I know the front one I can slide out, just not sure about the rear. I would think if you pulled one out of an accord, the pilots bigger, so should be more room. Sounds logical, right? Oh well, guess I'll find out. LoL
I have an Acura TL and the dealer wants to change out my cam shafts.. is it worth it? It isn’t a cheap service either. What are your thoughts. Apparently they want to do 2 on mine I believe…
Any damages or worn camshafts lobes .. if not I would not replace them..
@@shanewalsh5493 they said it’s starting to wear, I get a ticking noise sometimes when I start my vehicle in the mornings.. $3500 just for that service..
Planning on doing this pretty soon. Is it worth keeping the head on? Or would pulling it make things easier?
no. the intake, cams gears, fuel rails, injectors, and exhaust manifold, etc... would need to b reomoved, but if you want a new head gasket and maybe a valve job done it could be smart to do all at one time
@@stephendedalus191 a little late now but that's okay. I ended up just sliding it out
@@MapStainHey Idk if you're gonna reply im 2 years late but I need some advice for my 04 Accord EX v6. Sounds like timing belt noise but I checked everything and replaced a few parts and the sound is def coming from the top middle of the engine. How hard is a project like this and how long did it take you? Trying to figure out if its worth finding whatever is wrong and fixing myself or just getting a new car
@toasterglock8796 it's not the world's hardest job but it takes patience, and double checking your steps to make sure you're doing everything correctly. It's better to do it yourself, because I ended up saving myself $2000.
@@toasterglock8796 it took me about a week total of just working on it slowly after school.
Man Honda camshafts are junk. Mine is starting to spaul on my 04 crv with just 120k miles on it. Oil changes done every 3-4K miles for years so stupid. They aren’t as bad as those ones though. Just junk
Did you have to pull the starter? I’m stuck trying to get the thermostats housing out of the way enough, if only those egr studs weren’t there
No did not have to pull the starter.. Take off the egr and coolant cross over pipe so u have enough room to slide camshaft out on front.. It's tight
How did you get that bottom t stat housing bolt
