I had the 2015 Astro a40 tr with mix amp for 2 years until the sound out of the left ear speaker stopped working, Then I bought the version you reviewed! I really like the Astro brand and I don’t think I’ll ever go back!
Also, the mic cutting out is due to your Noise Gate settings. It's super aggressive out of the box. I forget the specific setting, but select a less restrictive setting, and it'll stop the voice cut off.
I never had issues with my mic... when I used it on my ps4 I was able to utilise all the features using optical ports etc but since getting the ps5 and using my headset I plugged it into the controller and well my friends said I sounded like poo... I have the adapter coming today so I will update you bud! Love the videos keep'em coming!
Thanks for this video. I was looking this stuff for DAYS. I have a Astro A50 and I’m using just with the USB port. I felt I was missing 3D audio from the P7 (never tried it) but after seeing this I’m more confident this is still the best headset to own.
Uhm....Idk man but this is the best combo ever. I can hear people across the whole map in cod and can tell you almost exactly where people are shooting. Seriously. I had the corsair virtuoso (just hurts the ears), Turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 (which is stil great)...but this combo via optical is just the absolute best. I can't play without it, I would go as far as saying this combo gives you an edge in gaming.
I use my Goxlr as my mix amp for this headset and all I can say is.. this headset gets really really loud. Great quality audio. Very comfortable compared to other headsets I’ve tried. I felt like my Goxlr mix amp is just higher quality over the regular Astro mix amp.
How come my mix amp works just using the USB cable? I connected it to the ps5 and then plugged the aux cord from the mix amp to the headset and it works perfectly fine. No need for the optical cable 🤔
Yeah it’s stupid I returned 2 of them thinking they where broken before noticing it was the headset to fix it (on pc) I swapped to night mode and put the mic close to my mouth and that fixed it but still for as high a price u would of expected it to work out the box no issues

there is an update for a40 for ps5 where you dont need optical cable just usb cable to mixamp... i have it working fine without optical cable after patch

For wired review the sennheiser gps 500 or 600, for wireless try the turtlebeach stealth 700 gen 2 both are awesome, better than anything out right now. I have owned many headphones including astro a50 and steelseries arctis 9x.
I just bought the tb stealth 700 gen 2 for xbox, and I found the headset to be really quiet. I actually went back to using my astro a10s over them. Stupid question but will updating the firmware change the quiet audio at all?
I’m having the same issue with the mic, and also when I’m talking my voice sounds “super tinny” according to my squadmates. It’s weird because when I play back a recorded message my voice sounds fine. I’ve gone through multiple headsets thinking it was the set itself, now I’m starting to think it’s an issue with the Mixamp on ps5. This issue has been present on my could pros, ps4 edition clouds, cloud stingers and sennheiser gsb300. Thank god Amazon has a generous return policy!
I had the a40s tr with the mixamp it’s definitely a step up from plugging the headset into the controller headphone jack but the creative g6 and cg7 are better for less money.
I have a g6 and a tv with a moniter with an opt out ( as well as the a40 mixamp tr pro ) but never thought to replaxe the mixamp bc the quality is great imo. I use a series x now so i fig whats the point as my old set up was ps4 pro g6 with a10 which sounded really good , tbh just about as good as the latest mixamp from astro. Side notes, neither mixamp has a power button
I used to use A40's and A50's for about 4 years. These are not good for hifi at all in any way. Gaming headsets are just overpriced poor sounding headphones with at attached mic. A £150 gaming headset will always sound bad compared to any £150 pair of stereo headphones. On PC I just use a modmic and headphones instead of a headset.
Completely different uses/purposes. Completely different mixing/mastering techniques used in the audio process as well. Completely different audio curves (for a reason). Same reason as why your stereo speakers, are not the same and sound completely different than Recording Studio Monitors.

No if you have a TV that has an optical Port then you can do it from there just make sure you still put the setting to Dolby on PS5 STILL AND IF YOU'RE USING A GAMING MONITOR THAT DOESN'T HAVE THE OPTICAL PART THEN YEAH YOU'RE GOING TO WANT TO USE THAT

Your headset probably didn’t connect to your PC because you didn’t slide the slider to PC on the back of your Mixamp. Another reason might be where u downloaded the Astro Command Center. Get it from Astro’s website and not the Microsoft store. MS store version restricts some features. Every problem you talked about in this vid can be fixed once connected to PC.

yea the cosole is the problem. you have to set up the mixamp on pc and it will save/safe the hard cut off from the mic. coz u have 4 diferent mic stages.
I use the Bose gaming headsets. The 3D audio sounds bad on the ps5. Sounds noticeably hollow/muffled especially when playing call of duty zombies. I just turn it off. Fixes everything. Idk if it has to do with the headsets or the game
It’s always recommended to used stereo for FPS games, you can use surround for single player games. It’s the games themselves on how the dev handled the sound engine take rainbow six siege for instance the sound bounces in that game so using surround sound further confuses the player.

If you have a 4K tv you probably have an optical put on the tv. Just switch the settings to chat audio out that way you have full control over the mix while still having the full graphics. The hdmi optical out adapter is ok. Most 4K TVs only do 60hz 4K anyways which is what it reduces it down too. Sony should have kept the optical port instead of having a usb c connector or better yet in addition to the rest of the connectors. But it is what it is. Luckily the tv optical port works perfectly for most people.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it better to use it with an optic cable to get the full surround experience instead of the 3d audio from Sony? You do need a splitter then for the HDMI and stuff (as the ps5 doesn't have an optic cable input), but I believe the sound is even better than just connect it with the usb and use Sony's 3d audio

Put one of those foam mic covers on it and it is better. Gets rid of the Darth Vader vibes. Edit: also if you are on next gen consoles you can buy an hdmi audio extractor. They sell insignia ones at best buy. You can get 4k 60 frames or 1080 120 frames. The extractor has an optical port. It's not ideal but a decent workaround.
Has anybody had the issue of their mic not being able to switch over to the headset when using the mixamp, even with the Astro adapter, it doesn’t even appear as an option for me in the settings
Update to the latest firmware. I noticed I was having this issue if I turned on my system with my wireless controller. Now I manually turn on my system. Once I see the headset assigned notification....then I turn on my controller... it's been working for me.
Can anyone help I was wondering if these headphones and amp(after getting the adapter) will allow me to fully mute my teammates in COD game chat and still hear the game audio. Sometimes they get too loud when I need to hear
You don't need the adapter, go to your ps5 and turn were it says Astro to TV speakers then go to your TV and turn the settings to optical then go to the 2.1 channel n change to 5.1 channel, then go to your TV and change to bitstream my TV is 2.1hdmi so I get full optic with 4k 120fps, I promise this will work as long as your TV can use soundbar as your mixamp will be powerfull enough to do this, your TV has to have the optical output, mine are Astro A50s, hope I helped you
You can actually turn up or down the volume with my TV remote control with all in one touch, and yes you can change the volume of your mic too I did it myself

Lol you didn’t even hook up the optical . That’s where the good sound comes from . You need an adapter since the new consoles have opted out of optical jacks for some strange reason . But yeah with out the optical working the sound on the astro . They are garbage with out it .
Mixamp is the most important part. If you want a great sound quality you need the mixamp. If you don’t want to buy the mixamp just go for another headset

I fail to understand why gaming headsets are so freaking heavy ? This bad boy is around 368 gm while arctis 7 is around 352. Hence I just ordered Bose Qc 35 ii and a Bluetooth audio adapter (expensive one). Seems like my gaming rig of Ps5 is complete now.
Frequency range is not important, as long as it cannot be perceived by human ear. What is important is the tunning, detail retreival, imaging, stage and dynamics. This ,,gaming" headphones/headsets are gimmick . There is a reason why the best headphons for gaming in the world, are made by Sennheiser , and are great for music in the first place.

Try the last preset for FPS , and change mic to streaming..and it will not cut out.

@@Ben-yp4rr Audeze Penrose/Penrose X is the best option. Astro, Turtlebeach, Logitech, Hyper X etc all sounds pretty bad even for a gaming headset
the mic is good you can adjust it in the app (you should pin a comment saying this btw)

@14:20 Yah, the A40 has a really small soundstage, and itd separation is lacking. Sound gets cluttered pretty quickly. :/

I was having the white noise issue (or hissing), this happens because you have the mic side tone on, when turned off the white noise stops.

Edit: also if you are on next gen consoles you can buy an hdmi audio extractor. They sell insignia ones at best buy. You can get 4k 60 frames or 1080 120 frames. The extractor has an optical port. It's not ideal but a decent workaround.

Has anybody had the issue of their mic not being able to switch over to the headset when using the mixamp, even with the Astro adapter, it doesn’t even appear as an option for me in the settings
Update to the latest firmware. I noticed I was having this issue if I turned on my system with my wireless controller. Now I manually turn on my system. Once I see the headset assigned notification....then I turn on my controller... it's been working for me.

You don't need the adapter, go to your ps5 and turn were it says Astro to TV speakers then go to your TV and turn the settings to optical then go to the 2.1 channel n change to 5.1 channel, then go to your TV and change to bitstream my TV is 2.1hdmi so I get full optic with 4k 120fps, I promise this will work as long as your TV can use soundbar as your mixamp will be powerfull enough to do this, your TV has to have the optical output, mine are Astro A50s, hope I helped you
You can actually turn up or down the volume with my TV remote control with all in one touch, and yes you can change the volume of your mic too I did it myself
I have mine connected directly to the controller. And it stills sounds better than the Artic 7p plus, the Pluse, or anything else I have tried.
It's a pretty good headset. it comes down to your preference

The mic cutting off was probably cuz you did not put the mic right in front of your mouth. Bend the mic to be in front and then try that tests again.

Bro the sound is dogshit on the ps5, its way better on the ps4 using the optical audio port. How did you set this up? Did you just plug the headset in the controller or does your monitor have a optical port??

Nah, its fine. I have had mine for a couple years and never had any issues with them kinking up

Unfortunately there's no option for that yet. only option you have atm is you'll have to connect directly via usb to the PS5
Can't use the a40 with mix amp without the hdmi adapter, and if you use the adapter, you are cap is 60hz

Sony didn't put an optical out because it's old tech at this point. A lot of companies are getting rid of that connection.

Lol you didn’t even hook up the optical . That’s where the good sound comes from . You need an adapter since the new consoles have opted out of optical jacks for some strange reason . But yeah with out the optical working the sound on the astro . They are garbage with out it .

Mixamp is the most important part. If you want a great sound quality you need the mixamp. If you don’t want to buy the mixamp just go for another headset

I fail to understand why gaming headsets are so freaking heavy ? This bad boy is around 368 gm while arctis 7 is around 352. Hence I just ordered Bose Qc 35 ii and a Bluetooth audio adapter (expensive one). Seems like my gaming rig of Ps5 is complete now.

Frequency range is not important, as long as it cannot be perceived by human ear. What is important is the tunning, detail retreival, imaging, stage and dynamics. This ,,gaming" headphones/headsets are gimmick . There is a reason why the best headphons for gaming in the world, are made by Sennheiser , and are great for music in the first place.
