Minimum requirement for rowing across the Atlantic is you have to be nuts. The other side: you have more courage than I could come up with in a hundred lifetimes. You are beyond my comprehension. I wish everyone a safe voyage.
Luck was with them. Boat looked 22 to 24 ft, fairly heavily built, but loaded as they were, maybe average 4 knots on a good day. A raft with an epirb lashed to the deck are not substitutes for a proper boat. You can't count on luck. Don't try that at home!
Hoping things went well. You should be carrying a few FireArms. At least you could fire a few warning shots and keep them from trying to board your boat. GOOD LUCK, Vinny ⛵️ 🔫
Oh Wow! Just noticed White Shadow is ‘of Poole ‘. So as I’m sitting here in my lounge in Poole, even more fun following your episodes watching from the beginning catching up to your current episode
I also hope that your knee is well. You didn't mention going to see the doctor but I'm hoping you got some antibiotics for your infection. I'm glad that you told us that the young couple crossing the Atlantic in the "bathtub" had made it Okay. That was a bit worrisome! Thanks! Dave
Come on Barry there's no pirates in the Al antic, I promise. But, i'll certainly watch the next eisode. Having worked in Germany for thirty years, I Know very well, that those young Germans would make it over the Atlantic. It's not size that counts but how you use what you've got. But,having bigger makes it much easier.
Riley from La Vagabonde threw cans of soup at pirates and they turned away. Sailing Brave or Stupid fixed a blue light atop their mast. Maybe the unexpected would spook the pirates?
Beautiful miniature “Rain Forest” there 5:21. with proper Music playing for it to, BRILLIANT ✅. WOW 😮. What a tiny little boat 8:00 Those Kids were crossing the Atlantic in 😳😱🤔🤭🌊🚣♂️⛵️
Nothing that a 120cm spear gun would not sort out! Great video, love the information & the island, Look after than knee of yours bud, you would win the knobbly knee award for that one!
Time for a lesson from the ultimate round the world sailor , Joshua Slocum used 'tin tacks' on deck to discourage pirate boarding his yacht in the Magellan straits! Great video Barry, thanks for all you effort to edit and post the video I know how much work it is especially when your in Exotic hot locations! Amazingly inspiring. Cheers Warren
Following your adventures Barry. A tip for intruders. Do what Joshua Slocum did. Puts tacks on the decks before you go to sleep at night! Safe sailing mate!
Really enjoy your channel Barry, makes my day when another video is uploaded. WRT the young couple, I think the unwritten rule is that you should cross the Atlantic in a boat no smaller than your age, so I'm not surprised that they got over!! I've got a Transatlantic 28 foot boat that won the under 30 foot class in the OSTAR in the Eighties, but for some reason, people now think that your boat has to be at least 35 foot to attempt the same.
Love The Videos Barry , Just started watching recently (Glad your now numbering them ).. Good luck on your travels get plenty of footage as im sure you will have loads of stories to tell about all the exotic places your going to visit and above all stay safe , Regards Dara Ireland
Once again , great video , starting to look forward to them . My next sea voyage is the Jester Azores Challenge in 2020 when I will be 68 , hopefully still have a working body !!! Roger aboard ,Florence May , Yealm
While you're in the 'less expensive than Europe' part of the world, you should look into finding a shop to make you a 'Draw string Bag' out of clear window vinyl. About 2' x 3' should be enough to slip over your helm instruments during weather to protect them whilst still allowing you to see the read outs...And, maybe, extend that 'mini dodger' to cover your wrinkled butt whilst at the helm. A connected Bimini makes foul weather passages so much more endurable, especially when you don't have a mate to spell you...
good man enjoy you logs and you sister is very beautiful so tell her to be less camera shy can you give us more footage of your adventures please (longer episodes } regards Wishful sailor
Hope for you the knee gets better. This can be a bother when you cann't move about. Anyway, you wonn't be faster than your Shadow. Weapons are allways an issue, but a flaregun comes in handy. Hoping that this will scare them of and alerts other ships. Better not to use them at all!
I don't think pirates care about small boaters (they know there's not much loot). They're after tankers n large yachts (where the real money is) but good drama tho!
Dear Sir, might you remember what kind of boat did that young couple have? God must be looking out for them. Thank you for your time. I love your videos and the view from the top of the mountain is worth offering for sale.
good vid again ol chap, nearly 300 thumb ups to zero down ,now thats a good sign.forgive my ignorance but is the devon flag same as the kernowlians like a black an white saltpetre?hats of to those chaps rowing the big blue in such a worthy cause, seen quite a few vids of various teams and a few solo ists doing the same route,a hell of an under taking.glad to hear the young couple made it safe, and safe travels to you too sir.
omg there was a guy who just came back from the canaries and died from some sort of infection. They had to divert the plane because he smelled so bad, the smell turned out to be necrosis, he died a few days later..
Let me just say that I have been to Scotland, Ireland and England and the people are awesome and wonderful. I am embarrassed when Americans feel the need to say America is better than everyone else. We may be better in some ways but it just kinda shows a huge ignorance and he does not represent all Americans. I'm not sure how this became a discussion of gun rights or whatever. I'm glad that he is safe and still sailing. I can't wait to see his next episode.
XtremeBudgetMusician I find that most people that say that just like the idea of killing people for no real reason except they can. But I hope you find that people are worth more than bullets.
Erik, I've owned guns all my life and never have so much as had to point one at another human being. Currently I have a concealed carry permit and hope to high heaven I never have to shoot in self defense. However, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. BTW, don't preach to us about killing people, we Yanks know a bit of British history and all the killing and misery you inflicted on the rest of the world during the centuries of colonization.
I'm not a sailor. I've spent the majority of my 58 years riding motorcycles but I really enjoy following your adventures.....Just a heads up for ya. Dunno if you've ever come across a product called ACF 50 or not?.....I ride my motorcycles in all weather so they've obviousy been exposed to that horrible salt that they grit the roads with in the UK. A single coat of ACF 50 totally protects them as it neutralises salt and I never suffer from the dreaded rust......Have a read up on it fella. It may help ya with the rust problems. It's been trialed by the good old U.S. Navy on their carriers with good results. Maybe you've already come across it and I'm tryin' to teach ya to suck eggs haha. Anyhow. Keep safe fella and keep the vids comin'. Tek care.
Barry, get rid of those bananas, call a witch Doctor, scare the wicked, bad luck bannans spirts off your boat. Eat bannanas on shore. It will make a bid difference. No more foul weather, bad knees, or pirates. It works.
From what I"ve read, the most dangerous part of the world for a yacht, is between the Philippines and Indonesia. Somali pirates want big ships to hold for ransom. The SE Asia pirates will take a small boat.
.....Hi good question, but it's illegal to carry a weapon on an English boat, country of registers applies. And if you got caught entering a country on any boat without declaring a weapon you could be considered a gun runner!, very serious offense.(and possibly refused entry with a gun). Besides what good do you think a small weapon on a yacht would be against armed Pirates? Just make sure they shoot at you! Best to be sensible and go the other way ,if you have to send off flares, epirbs, sat phone calls, VHF , single side band etc. The Wild West has no place in the high seas! Cheers Warren
How could you even think of sailing all over God's creation without arming yourself well? As a US Marine I know that I can be taken...but, they are going to pay dearly to have their way! Best-O-Luck...I'll be sitting on the edge of my seat and offering a few prayers in your behalf too...c h a r l i e
That's good news...I'd hate to see anything happen to the old English Fart....I'm kinda partial to him! Besides if he got into a gun battle with the Pirates...he could hide behind his knee-cap!
So what sort of gun are you going to have on a yacht that is going to scare off pirates in a 100' fishing boat? The only thing firing a gun is ensuring they shoot back and kill you. Being a hero in the middle of no where will achieve nothing but trouble for you. Sending up flares ,sending distress messages , triggering an epirb or the like is about the best you can do. Try and talk you way out of it. (See movie of Capt Phillips story). Fortunately Barry survived he's no dummy. Cheers Warren
wallenz if the English were armed then it was illegally, firearms are illegal in the UK. You can be permitted to have shotguns at home or a fixed abode. When at sea you abide by the rules of your boats registered country
While I have to admit there is always a chance of pirates in any place you visit, you have more chance of being hit by lightening or shit on by a seagull than being boarded by pirates.... in all the many millions of miles cruisers have sailed, over the last 100 years, only a rare few have had that unhappiness happen to them. More at risk in London or New York than on the high seas. Don't shit yourself man, you will be fine. Besides.. my guess is you don't have much that anyone would want.... just breath.
Barry you old drama queen!!! We love the video's please keep em coming.
I love the fact that you’re not Gung Ho Barry. You’ll be the one that makes it over the line. Cheers mate.
Oh, no! I hope you didn't die in the next episode!!!
Because I enjoy your videos...
Strong English man well done from the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 grate videos
Minimum requirement for rowing across the Atlantic is you have to be nuts. The other side: you have more courage than I could come up with in a hundred lifetimes. You are beyond my comprehension. I wish everyone a safe voyage.
So glad the youngsters made it! They sure are brave and their boat certainly small!!
Luck was with them. Boat looked 22 to 24 ft, fairly heavily built, but loaded as they were, maybe average 4 knots on a good day. A raft with an epirb lashed to the deck are not substitutes for a proper boat. You can't count on luck. Don't try that at home!
That little sailboat is set up for sea though. Life raft, self steering..beer etc.. all you need is a positive attitude.fair winds
Hope the knee is better Barry.Take care and enjoy yourself.
Hoping things went well. You should be carrying a few FireArms. At least you could fire a few warning shots and keep them from trying to board your boat. GOOD LUCK, Vinny ⛵️ 🔫
Beautiful video Barry! Great job mate! I hope to live the life you do someday.

Wow, was able to binge another 10. Pity there are only about 30 or so left. Keep ‘m coming Berry. Fair winds!

another great video Barry. thanks for sharing and best from HKG
Hope all goes well for you
Riley from La Vagabonde threw cans of soup at pirates and they turned away. Sailing Brave or Stupid fixed a blue light atop their mast. Maybe the unexpected would spook the pirates?
Great video as usual Barry.

Hopefully, you'll consider purchasing a Satellite Phone, to compensate for the lack of communications in open Oceans. Can't be too careful Barry.
Love your stuff, pure quality xx
Following your adventures Barry. A tip for intruders. Do what Joshua Slocum did. Puts tacks on the decks before you go to sleep at night!

Peter Abrahamson. just don't forget about them in the morning!!

Small boats can be stronger than larger boats. But never as comfortable.
Is that comfortable as in "accommodation", or as in "cutting though seas"?
Hello to James 😊
Another great video Barry always full of interesting content.
Great video as always. I'm presuming the knee cleared up? Hopefully on its own and without need to see the doc.
Was that a Hurley22? Great little sea boat.
Love The Videos Barry , Just started watching recently (Glad your now numbering them ).. Good luck on your travels get plenty of footage as im sure you will have loads of stories to tell about all the exotic places your going to visit and above all stay safe , Regards Dara Ireland
Great video Barry. The story is well told. Nice stuff.
That'll be the Inland Revenue chasing you down for Tax avoidance Barry - they're a tenacious bunch. Load the fore-cannon.
Ha Ha, brilliant!!
Once again , great video , starting to look forward to them . My next sea voyage is the Jester Azores
Challenge in 2020 when I will be 68 , hopefully still have a working body !!! Roger aboard ,Florence May , Yealm

Great video Barry. How is the knee?? I see my country is also rowing, go South Africa 😀👍
Greetings from New York City. What was the LOA of that tiny boat?. Your videos are getting better GOLLY GOOD SHOW..!!
good man enjoy you logs and you sister is very beautiful so tell her to be less camera shy can you give us more footage of your adventures please (longer episodes } regards Wishful sailor
Yikes! Pirates? Now I'm crapping myself, too. Hope you survive, Barry.
Does anyone know what kind of boat the young couple is sailing?
Hope for you the knee gets better. This can be a bother when you cann't move about. Anyway, you wonn't be faster than your Shadow. Weapons are allways an issue, but a flaregun comes in handy. Hoping that this will scare them of and alerts other ships. Better not to use them at all!
Have you considered using Hammerite on the rusty spots?
I don't think pirates care about small boaters (they know there's not much loot). They're after tankers n large yachts (where the real money is) but good drama tho!
Hi Barry, that small sailboat with the two german youngsters, was that a Hurley 22 ?? Thanks
Obviously you made it or this video would not be posted ! 😑 Thanks for sharing!
Dear Sir, might you remember what kind of boat did that young couple have? God must be looking out for them. Thank you for your time. I love your videos and the view from the top of the mountain is worth offering for sale.
They made it ok and now are back home in Germany.
Nice one Barry - I do not recall that area being a hotbed of piracy?
The canaries!
That young couple reminded me of Laura Dekker and Jessica Walton who separately at age 16 circumnavigated the globe.... solo.
Sailboat shalom seems a small sailboat, how big is it
Hi, Barry, is it possible to anchor in the mooring area instead of paying for the marina? You have a good dingy and outboard?
Yes, spend most of the tim now at anchor.

it became a discussion because we are allowed to defend ourselves and we don't have to jump through government hoops just to have a Flare Gun!
XtremeBudgetMusician I find that most people that say that just like the idea of killing people for no real reason except they can. But I hope you find that people are worth more than bullets.
erik paschke I think you are just making general assumptions. no rational human thinks like that, and you know it
Erik, I've owned guns all my life and never have so much as had to point one at another human being. I was relieved to hear that the young couple made it safely. What model/length of boat did they have? (Still binge watching...)
Really brave people! Wonder if they have a youtube channel
It was a Hurley 22.
Just amazing. For the price of a "Subscribe" button click you can travel the world with Barry and hear his stories. Love it

Please come sail the Great Lakes
You can crash at my place
howbig is your boat?
36 feet.
Hey what type of license and so and so do you need to rent a car there?
Hi Thomas, any valid licence from most countries is normally fine
Barry, get rid of those bananas, call a witch Doctor, scare the wicked, bad luck bannans spirts off your boat. Eat bannanas on shore. It will make a bid difference. No more foul weather, bad knees, or pirates. It works.
Karl Predmore what if he took a piece of land in a bucket and stood in it?
Anyone know the make and model of “shad” ? Please???
Hi Neil, Van de stadt 'Seal' with custom coach roof.
@@AdventuresofanoldSeadog , cheers Barry ,,I have watched you sail around the world twice now ,enjoyed it that much iv just started all over again 😂
Hey, talking about piracy, next time try Somalia, surly you'll get hit!
From what I"ve read, the most dangerous part of the world for a yacht, is between the Philippines and Indonesia. Somali pirates want big ships to hold for ransom. The SE Asia pirates will take a small boat.
They probably want booze and cigarettes lol!?
regarding "next time"... what's the rules for having a couple of guns stashed away for self defense?

That's an incredible challenge to row across the Atlantic. Not for me man.
When you've got wind, it makes no sense.
How could you even think of sailing all over God's creation without arming yourself well?

Charles Irby English registered boats are not allowed to carry firearms by law, but of course there are other ways of arming yourself
So what sort of gun are you going to have on a yacht that is going to scare off pirates in a 100' fishing boat? The only thing firing a gun is ensuring they shoot back and kill you. Being a hero in the middle of no where will achieve nothing but trouble for you.

They'd much rather take that tanker and get a bundle for releasing the hostages.
