I am totally green with envy, but have followed you with immense pleasure. I’m 83 now and npmy big adventure was to cycle camp all over Europe for 2 months every year towing my trailer. . Your adventures and bravery keep my mind young in reduce my frustration as I struggle coping with sliding down the slippery slope of my body failing me. But your vlogs are the best medication I take Fantabulous!
Love the travels of the old seadog...Be safe at 83! ~ I also love this epic tale of the wooden boat, Tally Ho being save & rebuilt by this brilliant young Englishman up in Sequim, wa..Look it up here in TH-cam..type in Tally Ho to find it. I'm on 67...check it out! ..me..just a mere 70..near port san luis, ca..It's a lovely night..considering..
Totally Barry has one of the best sailing channels without any doubts whatsoever and could also make it easily on mainstream TV as he has such a good presenting style. Another YT channel I really like is Sailing Emerald Steel
Hi Barry, you forgot to mention the Cook Islands. That's what Palmerston is part of as far as I know. I enjoy your videos, Thanks. PS. I used to send freight to Palmerston from Rarotonga many years back, I would think my boss at OTC still is.
You are totally right, I could live there too, with 3 wives that is. With solar and batteries and concrete buildings, they truly are totally independent. Loving it.
How glorious! The only island I've ever seen that deserves the word Paradise. I felt like I was meditating while watching this spectacular video. The palm trees are breathtakingly beautiful. Such lovely people. I could live there in a heartbeat. Thanks again and again, Barry.
You're doing great 😊 job young fulla, my grandma is from Palmerston Island, never been there hopefully one day, and I worked with my cousin Bill back here in Auckland 1980s, really good 😁 to see he's doing really well, thank you, safe travels, God bless 😁
The only advantage so far to being locked down in the UK (apart, obviously, from not catching the virus) is that it gives me time to watch your videos at leisure. Brilliant, as always
This is a real stand out Channel to see some of the incredible sights round the World. Thanks Barry from lockdown-ed UK and this really cheered me up. Totally brilliant.
I'm in Iowa - locked down for 3 years now! There is NOTHING to do here - at all! I hope the best for almost everyone in the UK, and one day plan to sail there. So save up some money for a beer, and I will meet you at Stonehenge when I buy a ship!
I heard of that place!! Absolutely stunning. I'd love to live there for awhile.. I have to say. 80% of the time I speed videos up. But this video, I watched multiple times. I even slowed it down to see EVERYTHING... Thank you very much
You are so right Barry; the experience of a lifetime. I’m sure it seemed surreal. These videos are precious. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
Seeing 'Shaddow' lying outside the reef looked like a faithful old dog or horse waiting for it's Master to return. If it had a tail I'm sure it would wag it when it saw the Master returning. Fantastic videos. Thanks.
Absolutely lovely way of life..... i can hear it in your voice how happy you are ..... so pleased you share ..... it my escapism in this manic world.... keep safe... smiling and a beer when you dont
Good one! After you you finish your go-round you should go back, run that bar for a few years! That would really put the place on the map - a must-stop for every boat within 1000 miles. 🍺🍺🍺🥤 🍹🧉🍸🍷🍺 🍺🍺 On second thought, that anchorage is a death trap, so maybe not...
Great video! A pity you could not stay longer and be able to explore all the islands of the atoll. I enjoyed the hearing about the history and the time you spent chatting with Bill. Thanks for sharing Barry! Cheers
God bless you Barry ! And yes you are right ~ Palmerston Island is a special place. I have followed you from the very first video you put up and I must say your style and character make you unique in the TH-cam world and that's why I feel a connection with you that no one else can match. Take care !
Having watched all of your episodes I find the ones on people living on these remote islands the most fascinating and interesting ones. On one hand, life seems to be very basic but then I see powerboats, motorcycles, freezers and wifi thousands of miles from "civilisation". Always dreamed of living an uncomplicated life on a remote island but I guess I'll never know.........Luckily, you give me a taste of it. Thank you!
I wish you knew the "appreciation" I have for you and your videos every little thing is amazing to me. As long as I can remember I craved this life like you are living. Thank you for sharing. 💙💜💙
Thank you for taking us with you. Never heard of that place, amazing to think how silent it must be. No cars, no planes, no pollution. Peaceful. Stay safe man! Safe travels!
The first video of Palmerson that didn't make it look like a barren coral wasteland. I was suprised it had vegitation let alone all that tropical forest. Thanks
Stay safe and catch a fish already😂 a little seaweed paper and rice fish fresh from the sea.. mmmmpretty messy on the deck mind you....carry on. More beer and vino please.
You are a delightful person to follow on youtube - I watch a lot of sailing shows on you tube because I used to be a sailor myself. Right now I am stranded in Iowa (US) because of family issues. However, I will be getting a newer, better ship in the future, and hope to see you out there. I am putting down a nice array of wine, beer, and other alcohols for ballast already. I shall be comfortable this time.
@@edshred99 I think the term is "free association" with New Zealand. New Zealand handles defense. But they're definitely self-governing. I've been to their Parliament.
One of best episodes you've mixed Barry, enjoyed every moment, for a moment I felt like I was on island with you, beautifully conveyed sense of life on the island, you have been staying for a short while but all well affected with a measure as it should! Thank you Barry for some nice thoughts in this Corona hell in Europe! Stay Safe Seadog.....
What a courageous man you are! You a terrific story teller and your videos are very well put together. Keep well... you are living a life with so much to reflect on, look forward to and inspire us all!
Probably your best episode yet because of your description of the history and culture of the island. Made me want to visit there, but I know I never will get the chance. And we didn't have to witness your crap sailing!
Yes Sir, you have sailed half way around the World 🌎 now, and by your Self at THAT..!! 3:34 I love those kinds of places in the “Middle of Nowhere” and Very tricky to get in n out of the Reef, It takes a lot of knowledge & patience... WOW 😳 good job Barry 😎👍✅
Great stories . I feel like Im visiting these places with you and not just watching a show. Great stuff. stay safe, may the good luck be with you in the end.
I enjoyed your mini documentary Of Palmerston Island. I lived in the Panama Canal Zone for three years, back when it was the Canal Zone. I learned to sail there and bouught a 26' fixer upper sloop. I never did any ocean sailing just day sailing in Cristobal Bay and the Caribean entrance to the Panama Canal. Loved your video, Thank you. subscribed.
What a pity that this Palmerston Island doesn't have a nice deep enough lagoon that allows you to stay longer.... But you were right, I wouldn't like to stay too much on that mooring where Shadow was... frightening! Good luck for your next leg... waiting for ep.151 !! :)
Found you just a couple of days ago, saw an episode or two, then finally settled down this evening (05/27/20) to binge watch. I'm a senior female and hopefully working toward a live-aboard situ and a little traveling. Though I grew up in San Diego, CA, I have very little boating experience, so I'm getting a lot of education watching the sailing channels on TH-cam. Haven't yet decided on sail or motor. Though sailing seems to be less expensive since wind is free, it's certainly sobering to see you stuck for days becalmed. I found it difficult to turn you off tonight, as you're entertaining and funny. You do a good job sharing info about the places you visit, and makes me want to pick up and go. Though the travelogue part is very interesting, I appreciate you showing some of your troubles and fixes as well. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
I went thru that waya few years before you. I had good wind to continue on to Tonga, and had heard the Moorings were not great. You had your hook down as well, so you must have thought or heard the same. I do regret not having seen the place and the people. The teacher and I had phone conversation a year ago about her maybe coming on as crew. I did a refit instead. Seemed a nice enough sort she did...I feel like I have seen it now...Thanks Mate
I wonder what happened to the old church built of massive timbers from a ship wreck and once retrieved from the other end of the lagoon after a hurricane? Good to see Bill still about but aged a little bit since my visit in 96. Nice video and a great spot.
Mark (217maka) reference to sheeple, implying wolves and sheep, assumed you considered yourself a wolf. Of wolves and sheep, eating the poison. A metaphor for the motivation you received, that prompts you to divide, to categorize, and lord over.
@Mark (217maka) not necessarily. Palmerston atoll (understandably) does not have good weather records. However, nearby Cook Islands have been studied for effects of sea level rise. The conclusion is that sea level rise is not the main short-term concern from climate change - long term, it could be more so. Currently, the extent of sea level rise is apparently dependent on regional factors. The global average rate of increase is ~3 mm per year. The rate of change in New Guinea, however, appears to be up to 25-30mm per year (we aren’t exactly sure why, probably to do with El Niño cycles). However, other island nations are having to evacuate. The prominent example I know of is the Maldives moving large numbers of people to Springfield, Arkansas. The main source for this is page 202-203 of www.fao.org/3/i0530e/i0530e04.pdf

when this is over...DO IT!! 83 ...23....still a great adventure....just with ha ha...a different approach....
I wish the best for your health, and I am filling my grog mug in you honor today!

Yep, but the problem is not enough young girls in Bikinis like this other sailing YT channel! What is wrong with this World?
Totally Barry has one of the best sailing channels without any doubts whatsoever and could also make it easily on mainstream TV as he has such a good presenting style. Another YT channel I really like is Sailing Emerald Steel
SAILORS RPBLC what’s wrong with young girls in bikinis?
I watch every sailing show and this by far is the best. I’m 27 and think this shit is awesome
Yup !!!!!
Untainted, majestic splendor amidst the vastness of the pacific realm! Outstanding! Thanks Cap'n, fer the visit!

Seadog, I believe you have found in Palmerston Island a true Island Paradise. You will probably will return.

I love watching all the videos I seem to spend hours watching 👀 and catching up to the latest ones.

I would not catch a wink of sleep in that anchorage! You are some man Barry! Hope to see it for myself one day. Amazing place and thanks for sharing.
Seeing 'Shaddow' lying outside the reef looked like a faithful old dog or horse waiting for it's Master to return. If it had a tail I'm sure it would wag it when it saw the Master returning. Fantastic videos. Thanks.
What a beautiful place and people’s. Thank you Sir! Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 🍷🍷
Perhaps your best episode. Thank you!
I’ve been watching this for a while and I am seriously happy when a new episode comes on. Thank you!
Loved this episode particularly as you perfectly encaptured both the beauty & the hardships the locals endure in your own inimitable style !🍺🍺

Just bought a top hat mk2 because of this channel.✔️🇦🇺
Thank you for taking us with you. Never heard of that place, amazing to think how silent it must be. No cars, no planes, no pollution. Peaceful. Stay safe man! Safe travels!
Strange thing is, there are very few silent days or nights on a coral atoll. The waves on the reef are a constant source of sound.
I was more referring to men imade noise. Nature does create sounds too, but I would not consider these as pollution. 😄👍⛵️
Yes, and those nights are fantastic.
Must have been a tough place with 3-400 people living on such a small atoll. That's for sharing your time there. Cheers Warren
Just spent the last 6 days watching all of your videos starting with you buying Shadow all the way to Palmerston atoll. Bloody brilliantly stuff.
A Diamond of a place for-sure....and without the virus. Good video mate.
Just as you loved the place and the people, so did we.
So good to see you - be safe.

Taking social distancing to a whole new level!
Let take it to a new level ... SD should be renamed ST. Do not talk do not protest ... Hows that?
I love the Cook Islands. Wonderful people. I dream of going to one of the outer islands one day. Would love to visit Palmerston.
I wouldn't want to be the man to tell a Cook Islander that the Cook Islands are a 'territory of New Zealand' ;)
@@edshred99 I think the term is "free association" with New Zealand. New Zealand handles defense. But they're definitely self-governing. I've been to their Parliament.
This vid is that good I have had to watch it twice now .... Well done ya Old Sea Dog
Fantastic video! You captured it perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing. After 4 weeks in isolation escapism via your videos are my "life raft".
As I watch your video from my cottage on the North Atlantic from Hampton Beach, NH, I thank you!!
Watching this just lights up my soul
What a wonderful magical place

The best episode yet.
The reef look like a type of natural watch dog. Beautiful but dangerous. The island was beautiful. Worth the risk.

Mark (217maka) reference to sheeple, implying wolves and sheep, assumed you considered yourself a wolf. Of wolves and sheep, eating the poison. A metaphor for the motivation you received, that prompts you to divide, to categorize, and lord over.
Mark (217maka) - Well my goodness, and here I thought you were a wolf. Excuse me.
Paddy6211 - The advice comes far too late. Barrry has been in New Zealand since before Xmas. Shaddy is undergoing a much-needed refit.
@Mark (217maka) not necessarily. Palmerston atoll (understandably) does not have good weather records. However, nearby Cook Islands have been studied for effects of sea level rise. This was just magnificent Sir! Thank you very much. Fair winds and safe harbors.
Thanks for a very special episode. Fair winds and friendly seas!
One of my favourite things to look forward to is a new adventure from the old sea dog and shaddy. Thanks for taking the time to share all your posts.
Thank you Barry.
Great job Barry
great job again please stay safe and have a great trip
