Chondromalacia Patella is a very common knee ailment seen in knee OPD practice. Chondromalacia leads to anterior knee pain. This pain increase on kneeling . The pain also increase on climbing upstairs and standing up from a sitting position. The best investigation to screen chondromalacia is MRI scan. Although sometimes the MRI may also be normal. Most of the times the problem improves with conservative management. Very occasionally a arthroscopy procedure may be required. Arthroscopy is the gold standard to diagnose and treat Intractable Chondromalacia Patella.

As I want to join army when I started physical my knee started making grinding sound and now I have anterior knee pain whenever I run and climb stairs. Are knock knees related to chondro malacia patella or patella pain syndrome?

1.knee joint effusion extending into the suprapatellar bursa with associated synovial thickening with multiple loose bodies within s/o synovial disease like synovial osteochondromatosis.
2.foci of complete articular cartilage loss along the lateral and medial patellar facet, largest along the medial patellar facet measuring 1.5 mm in diameter suggestive of chondromalacia patella grade III

I am suffering from the knee pain from couple of years and consulated the sparsh hospital b'lore. It was understood that gap between cartilage reduced resulting knee pain during walk and staircase climb. Now we are taking calcium tablets with painkillers tablets. More ever I am doing yoga exercises for the same. But it seems that it's not sufficient for complete relief. Kindly advise me more treatment related to the above said problems.

Thank you so much Dear Dr for shedding light on this type of issue. and I am suffering from ChondroMalacia left kneee pain from past 5 years. it happened post one of the sport activity where I ran so rigorously. I went to Sunshine hospital and they asked me to get MRI and etc and they concluded its a Chondro Malacia patella issue and gave me some tablets and VMO exercises. However I did those exercises for some days and then stopped. I am getting severe pain again. is there any permanent treatment for this issue? like putting some artificial cushioning under patella or etc..? i heard some gel injection to knee for lubrication etc.. I am confused which way to opt. Please advise Sir.
