Barbel React To Feeders! (Cage & Method)

  • Some of you may be wondering as to why i compacted the pellets soo tight into/onto my feeders. That is because every cast i had to drag the rig to be positioned in front of the camera, so i needed it to be though enough to survive getting dragged 4-5ft. Hope you enjoy. It was great to watch the fish interacting with the feeders on the bottom. Just itching to get out and catch them. Can't wait for the beginning of the season!

    interesting A pva bag that melts and a back shot that keeps line nearer river bed might solve spooking or was it the camera?

    • @paulw6183
      @paulw6183 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The method feeder was dynamite on the rivers a decade or so for barbel, I've had some luck with small bags of pva mesh but it seems the age old method of getting them going berserk over a bed of hemp and crushed up bits of anything never grows old.

  • @Rob-zq8sy
    @Rob-zq8sy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Fantastic footage Chris. Seemed to me they were spooking from the tight line which obviously would not be a problem (so much) if fishing downstream, and they seemed preoccupied with the free offerings rather than a 'lump' of bait. Would be interesting to see that when actually fishing with the hook bait downstream with and without a feeder. Those gudgeon and minnows certainly had big ideas trying to down those pellets, my nana would say they had eyes bigger than their bellies!

      I think it was the nearby camera, and a general lack of interest by the cats in the bait he was using. Most didn't even give that bait a second glance. I don't think any ate it.

      @@gee3883 .. Fished aren't spooked that easily. Most of them swam away without even touching that line, or that bait. While wary, if that bait was good, they go for it - line or camera be damned.

  • @Yosser70
    @Yosser70 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Think the line and the colour of the bait are big factors here. Definitely spooking on the line but also wonder if there reaction would have been different if the bait was a bit more neutral in colour, rather than bright white 🤔

    JUST GOES to show they react to feeders like a cat to a bullmastiff,, i have seen footage where the line coming down to the feeder has the same effect with barbel carp and tench do the same tackle shy,,its back to the drawing board ,or long long waits will just get longer ,,

  • @DjDolHaus86

    They definitely recognised the feeder as a threat (or rather a localised concentration of bait). They were more than happy to browse over the loose feed but as soon as they came across a clump of bait they immediately backed off. Was this filmed during the closed season? Not accusing you of breaking the rules as it doesn't appear that there is a hook on the rig but more just curious in terms of the fishes capacity for memory (i.e they can remember a trap that they won't have seen in at least a month)

    • @thinkFishcatchFish
      @thinkFishcatchFish 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TjDolHaus86 I agree. I think it could be the concentration of bait. They can see it and smell it but it's like they just know it's a trap as soon as they come across it. Very interesting.

    line was spooking fish you needed a flying back lead to pin it down also casting downstream to the swim rather than upstream. dunno what flavour pellets they were but they didn't seem very interested. A lump of garlic meat would be a better bait or halibut pellets.

    • @simplefishingde3364
      @simplefishingde3364 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the white colour of the pellet is also a point they didnt like. Something more decent would be appropiate, making it look more natural in the river bed

    Hooked popted out.....the fish lay stationary for a while in the shallow water and i jumpted in head first trying to catch this lump of gold....i didnt and the fish left in a jolt...the builders working on the roof opposite laughed and said "that was close" i think they wanted to see me catch as much as i wanted to catch...its the same old story on the river don in sheffield..."are there fish in there?" Yes theres some beautifull fish..grayling...brown trout....odd rain bow...odd blue trout ( another fish i havent caught yet) pike....and the mysterious (to me) chub...ya see im in a life long competition with my brother...how many different types of fish can we catch...i reacently got him a pike ( his first) so in the british rivers hes one up as he has had a chub befor...tym to get me that mysterious pokemon....sorry childhood throw bk..i mean chub i havent caught!!! Ant tips?
