I have the same bike, even in the same color. A few thoughts:
The bar-end mirrors are fantastically designed for urban riding. You can simply fold them inward and then they are no wider than the handlebar.
The seat is uncomfortable if you wear jeans but removing the seat shows that it is surprisingly thick.
There's two settings for the footpegs.
Pushing the throttle past closed cancels cruise control.
Setting the display to flash at a pre determined RPM (set by the user) works much better than trying to read the tiny display.
The fuel-gauge is terrible; I use the "gallons consumed" instead.
The stock exhaust is fine. I know it's bike culture to be loud, but I urge you to spend a day being an urban pedestrian; of all the vehicles on the road it's invariably the bikers who are deafeningly and painfully loud. It's no coincidence that both UK and US local ordinance is coming down hard on bikers.
In my opinion, buyers should only buy this bike if they intended to do trackdays with it. It's far too much for the street when an XSR700 or ZX650 would work just as well and be more comfortable.
This bike is dangerous without its rider aids. It makes more power and weighs less than the original Honda CBR900RR.
A small Dart windscreen settles the front of the bike down very nicely. I find naked sportbikes to benefit greatly from a small fly screen which pushes the front end down.
Hepco and Becker now makes a fantastic c-bow panniers for this bike. It's not cheap but it makes the bike quite practical.
I bought the 2024 model which is basically the same the only difference is color and coming from sport bikes the XSR 900 is truly a great bike . I love it and at 56 years of age it’s the perfect trade off from sport to something I can actually enjoy for longer than 20 minutes 😂
It Handles great and has plenty of power and the brakes are great as well . I can live with the seat . It’s again hands down my favorite and I’ve had some incredible bikes over the years. Stay safe out there !

Air Hawk "dual sport" seat pad fits perfect and fills the space between the seat and tank, no more nad kicks on bumps. love my '24 btw.
Naked bike in 100deg weather makes a lot of sense for commuting around town. My R1300GS just blocks too much airflow when it gets that hot. Also feels like you're flying w/ nothing under you ;-) Just changed the oil on my 2024. 2 to 3 hours trips are good for me. Definitely a firm seat! And I'm 56 🤣
Mine is blue, no complaints at all except for a few extra handlebar vibrations and brake lines and calipers not as sharp as Brembo's
Got a 2024 xsr900 to replace my 2021 mt-09. Although similar specs they feel quite different, xsr is not so snappy on twisted roads, not as willie happy and unfortunately less leg room to pegs. On that note, the seat is really the worst part, hard and not confortable even for one hour of riding. Trying to find a good solution that doesn't change the bike style. Great bike overall and I like it a bit better than the MT-09.
A multi-dimensional First Choice. Compare these metrics against any other street bike:
Price for my 2023 XSR900 was $10.3K in march '23. Prices going up, but Kawasaki is up a lot more!
Electronics /IMU Lift, slide, ABS everything but not GPS or Phone apps.
Screen.. Small but efficient.. all digital, no analog. Bright sun is no problem, but polarized sunglasses might have an effect?

Brakes! If a perfectionist check out the sintered front pads (Simple 5 min replacement), maybe braided hoses?
Sound is Great, stock.
Yamaha reliability is legendary. They design engines for auto manufactures (Ford Taurus SHO) and several others. Outboard motors last forever. In the top 3 catagory for reliability (debatable of course)
Everybody has a flash and pipes (IMO not necessary but a tune is) for it.
Stands on it's own.. it's a future classic.. the H2 of the future
That's my Verdict! A++ Get it tuned if you can, and fully set up your suspension.
Hmmm. I have 2024 model. Maybe my arss is leather as I ride 4-5 hours only stopping for gas. No issues. 60yo too! I really like the bike!

Ive had mine from new, after 900 miles. It's being sold. The seat is awful, the vibrations are horrendous. Tried grip puppies, rubber oegs ams nothing. The brakes are mushy, suspension isn't great, even after setting it up..
Great for a 1 hour stint but that's about for me...
Fantastic engine, it's fun, and it looks great, but i can't get past the vibrations. Settling on the 1000XR and then next year will be adding a tuono 1100 to have have insane v4.

I'm sorry for your bad experience, and really appreciate it as I am struggling to decide between this one and a Suzuki gsx- s1000. Very little bad feedback I can find on this one, but I understand the Suzuki will be smoother for sure. I was leaning toward the Yamaha for it's light weight and looks, but the vibrations you mentioned are putting me off!
@jardani9922 The BMW S1000xr does suffer from vibrations. But nowhere near as bad as the XSR900. Don't get me wrong. It's a great bike but to me, it didn't feel 'special'. The tuono I'll be adding in its replacement is..
It seems that we don’t ride the same bike. No, the suspensions are perfectly adequate. The front brake is excellent and the rear brake OK. All in all, the handling is truly excellent. There are vibrations sure, it’s a triple, not a four, but they are annoying only in the footpegs. (The new XSR900GP has footpegs with a rubber top. I’m considering buying those. More stylish than the FJR’s.) Yes, the seat is horribly uncomfortable. But I’ve test ridden the bike before purchasing it and this was no surprise for me. I haven’t bought this "modern cafe racer" to do some long distance touring anyway. I have other bikes for that.
I almost bought this bike but I couldn't stand the hard seat. I hope they put a more comfy one on the 2025 model.
@dolphinride5157 that would be the point I walk away from the sale as well. Shame it's a hard seat
@@RevZolution Exactly. Yamaha should put a comfy seat on it instead of expecting us to spend another $500 or more additional dollars to get a better one.

I bought one and put on the Kelpi seat cover. Pretty easy install, you just need a staple gun... Changes the looks and comfort of the seat immeasurably. Do it!
@@yahoodlumsI've ordered their ribbed seat cover, how much thickness and confort improvement did you notice?
If you just paint the stock exhaust with flat black exhaust paint it looks glorious and is hidden with the engine.
I painted mine w/ black high-temp ceramic paint. Looks much better.

Definitely an under exhaust - preferably an aftermarket one.
That swingarm is too good looking to be hidden behind something.
Great bike but the seat is ridiculously uncomfortable.

It's like upholstery shops haven't been invented. Use some imagination folks..
why would anyone make a angled frame on handlebars ? no purpose as you need special risers !!!
Most ugliest exhaust ever made looks cheap and nasty. great informative video.
