    Thanks a lot for your brilliant and informative review on the XSR900. I picked up mine in September and have enjoyed every single of 2600 km so far. Highly addictive, as you mentioned.

    I have a MT09 SP, no question the XSR looks better but I have a more comfy seat and upright seating position so better for commuting, touring. Either bike or even the Tracer is a gem with the frame, engine and quick shifter.

      20 years on either would leave you looking like a moroccan tailor (hunched over with bent spine). Get those handlebars 2 inches higher for gosh sake! I own one and it really chaps my ass how i have to lean forward on it with its flimsy light thin handlebars that want to dance like the devil. Rake is too short unless for the racetrack or super smooth roads, as are most modern neo cafe 'kill millennials' bikes these days. Thai roads have waves in them and little bumps and snakelines, mudfalls, floods.. But they sell these type of neo sports and heritage sports 17" front wheelers like the xsr and the mt to kids in the thousands here, and many are dying due to the fact that the bikes are not made for Thai roads. The XSR is getting too much hype on youtube (paid probably some of it), and to be honest, from the 6 bikes i own, its the one i feel is the flimsiest, and least safe, and the lack of a partition in the gas tank is a serious flaw to the central balance of the bike due to the4 flow of the petrol from left to right side of tank when half full, unbalancing the bike. I have spent most of my life on the back of a motorcycle (since age ten i am now fifty eight), and i do not feel safe on an XSR, which means, it is not safe

    What a fantastic bike and brilliant review! I sat smiling in front of my iPad all the way through it :) As a brand new rider and only 5”4 it’s a bit much for me right now but who knows where I’ll be in a couple of years… Hopefully on one of these. I love the blue/gold colour.

  • @Paul-kp1tu
    @Paul-kp1tu ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wasn’t sure I liked the looks but the more I see it the more and more I love it. Wish it had a bigger thank. Spent the weekend riding with a 1990 Fzr 1000 and it had the same tank, so it’s actually pretty true to form for the older sports bikes and endurance racing models of the 80’s and 90’s . Nice in block, nicer in the blue.

    Great review and it’s good to see the typical RPMs for real world speeds. Although I’d have to take it really easy in suburb surface streets, this bike would be fun to ride on the freeways here in California (where average speed is 80-85 mph).

    Great review Mark. I’m a similar height to you and recently got one in blue but still bedding in brakes and tyres … and getting used to that power!
    I’ve seen some comments re: the TFT and would say it’s very clear and easy to read. The seat won’t be the most comfortable ever but no issues so far. It’s a bike that looks even better in person and that intake sound is great. Cheers

    I’m 5’8 so the seat height appeals in terms of being able to reach the ground in traffic. Also like the way the bike develops its power and throttle smoothness- not something you find on every euro 5 compliant bike. I would prefer a bikini fairing that offers more wind protection. A bike I’d be happy to own.

    I looked at one of these in blue a month or so ago, but unfortunately they didn’t have one to test ride so I went for a hyoermotard sp which was brilliant fun on the test ride. Was worried the saddle looked really hard and suspension too form for a B road, wish I’d seen your review…, but happy with the hyper for time being

    Great review! I just picked the same motorcycle up a week ago. I had a 2016 years ago and I must say the improvements on the 2022 stand out. Great engine and the quick shifter is butter. To my understanding blue will be the only color available in 2023. For those who are looking to pickup a black one, check it out in person. It has flake in the paint and really pops in the sunlight.

    Until this review, 1 of many I have watched before I gave up and bought my 2022 street tripler R, none of them spoke of the adjsutable front suspension or cruise control or if they did I must have missed it. I would have bought the 2022 even though I would have had to travel +/- 500 miles here in the states from where I live to get one due to local dealers not having any delivered.Thanks for your review, yours are the best as always.

    Good review of a brilliant bike. I've got the blue version that i think looks so much better than the black. I find that the tank range isn't a problem as if you were planning loong motorway trips you wouldn't buy this bike, this is for fun not touring.
    I do find it odd that lots of the comments say its a very fast bike and super powerful, I don't feel that at all when i ride it, the power is very smooth and controllable and you only go as fast as your right wrist makes you. It tops out at 140mph ish so not a hype fast bike.
    Either way i'm very glad i brought mine.

    Hi Mark. As always a great review, what bike isn't good these days? This is only my opinion, it's a lovely bike (sorta) but I think the tank range will put a lot of customers off, if I remember correctly you said 150 miles per tank, that's really not enough for the cc of bike, it would be good enough for a 500cc or less (still not good), but sorta acceptable. People talk about electric bikes with only a distance of 150 miles and they complain, this is a combustion engine, so no excuses tbh.
    Everything about the bike looks good, but in my personal opinion it's a deal breaker for the milage per tank of fuel.

    • @captainaverage721
      @captainaverage721 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In my experience around 150 miles range is pretty competitive for this class of bike, say CB1000R, Z900 RS, Speed Twin are all about the same. After about 100 miles on my CB1000R im dying to get off because of sore arseitis anyway !

    • @Cobalt1520
      @Cobalt1520 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      People complain about electric bikes because of the time you need to wait to fully charge. 2 min to fill the tank and go. 1 hour to charge (in the very best) and not even 100 miles range( in the very best).

    Nice review of what seems like a very decent bike. Much prefer it to it's MT sibling in terms of looks & style but it's still not a great looking bike imo. Although it does look much better in the black than the blue & it would be even better with the gold forks & wheels too.

    Nice one as per normal Mark. I achieve 59mpg on my daily commute with my blue MT09 same engine. The XSR looks better is slightly different as has the standard cruise control which is handy. I saw the XSR both in blue and black at the local dealer and I have to say that the fantastic Yamaha blue is the one for me. The only odd thing with this bike is the gap between the seat and the fuel tank. It looks like they could have made the fuel tank a bit bigger if they closed that gap. I don't know but it looks just weird. Do I think it is £1400 better than my MT09? Tough one. Nevertheless I love my MT09 the engine sounds OK but I still call it the sound of a coffee grinder with my helmet on. 😉

    Which bike did you prefer, the XSR or the MT 09? I loved the new XSR when I sat on it at the bike show. I thought it was perfect for me. I'm about the same height as you are and could put my feet down without trouble. And.....it's light too. The only thing I couldn't stand was the tiny TFT. FFS how much more does a bigger one cost?

      Lots of complaints about the tiny TFT on these and the MT09. Next years MT 07 gets a 5" colour TFT so I expect Yamaha to fit that one to the following years MT 09 and XSR. Fuel tank is too small as well. The seat I would throw away and fit a flatter after market one. Other than that it's a great bike but I will stick with my 2022 Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4 thankyou [it's the best bike I have ever ridden and I have been riding since 1978].

  • @bigred8438

    It is an interesting looking bike and probably the first bike I have seen with that type of beam frame that doesn't look completely stupid. I guess with the engine on these bikes almost all looking exactly the same nowadays, it makes no sense to show it off , and it is best to cover it with a section of Frame (aluminium I am guessing by the weight). I would be concerned that the section of plastic between the tank and the seat will have its paint worn off in short order.

    Starting to like the look of the new xsr design can se it has potential but the big bump on the seat needs a plastik cover with a pise of foam as backrest and it might be possible to turn into a decent and okay looking race seat.
    The belly exhaust definitely needs to be changed, that thing just looks awful not having a small cool looking pipe, actually think the standard one on the old model looks really good.

    It needs to be blue Mark, black doesn't really do its looks justice, but do you prefer the shorter wheelbase and somewhat lighter MT-09 to this model, looks aside ? I suppose this one is a bit less twitchy when really pressing on, but I tend to prefer bikes with a shorter wheelbase.

    Hey Mark, I'd like yout opinion.
    I'm getting my 1st bike next spring and I was thinking about this bike. The previous Gen is a bit suicidal, but this one has the power modes, that theoretically tame the bike to a 650 naked category, do you think it would be too much for somebody like me? I'm 33, 1,84m, 110 kg. I know how to respect power, I've had a couple of fast cars in the past, that's why I was thinking maybe I could get away with this one.
    I know there are other options out there, but I really like the way the xsr900 looks and sounds.
