  • Sometimes flying to your hunting destination is the better option than driving. But flying has its own advantages because it can buy you more time the field but it has its own weaknesses, it can be more expensive and you have be mindful of what gear you're bringing and how to pack it. This is how I pack my gear to fly.

Here's a couple extra tips from several flights with successful results. I use polar bear 48 soft sided coolers. A full bag holds 54 lbs of meat so there is just a little bit of room on the top. Expensive but will keep meet frozen in high heat for a days flying. I UPS ground all of my equipment home. I shot a bull in Montana this year and had 240 lbs of meat. Checked 3 bags and carried 2 on the airplane. I fly Delta and the third bag is 150 bucks and each additional bag is 200 bucks. So for 150 checked bag plus approx 230 for 2 50 lb bags I ups home, I get 240 lbs of meat in the freezer in a 10 hour day. I had to pick my meat up the night before I left too. In this case I put 3lbs of dry ice on the top of each bag. Leave the bags slightly open to vent. 12 hours later, the ice was gone and the meat was still rock sold frozen. Make sure to put dry ice on top, not the bottom, to freeze the entire bag. Jeff, I think your non-insulated bags will work for mild weather with a direct flight. Great video and good advice for sure. Keep them coming and shoot straight.

I do have a direct flight and have freezer space lined up on both ends of my trip. If I do get something down early enough to get to the store my plan is to ship all my gear back and just carry all my meat home with the dry bags, and as much as I can fit into my backpack or soft sided coolers for carry on. Thanks for the tips! That’s a lot of meat and a big bull! Hopefully you left one for me!

Jeff, another awesome video! I am in a similar situation where I will need to fly this fall... What bow case is that? Looks like it has plenty of room with no wasted space.

What all do you take for food?

I think food is person dependent. I would only recommend trying to eat what your going to bring before so you know if you like it or if your stomach can handle it.

@@jeffcordero_ Would you consider doing a backcountry meal prep video? I love to see what everyone else is packing. It encourages me to try new things.
