If you need quick access to your rifle and want to have hands free hiking for trekking pole use, etc.. I would ditch the rifle sling and get a Kifaru Gun Bearer. Pretty cheap...$35-40 but an awesome way to easily pack you gun and have quick easy access to it. Just a suggestion. Great video Billy.
Excellent video on what to pack. Listen to what Billy says because I worked with Billy in 2008 for spring brown bear hunting on the Alaska peninsula and I'm grateful I asked him so many questions because I learned a lot.
Hey billy, I watched this video at the beginning of my guide career to help with what I should buy. Now I’m about ready to take my test and certify at the end of this season. Love your videos. Being from Indiana and moving to Wasilla Alaska this coming May you’ve showed me a lot. Thanks for sharing in your adventures and your faith.
I like watching your videos. I just finished watching this one where you have everything packed away and bring to Alaska to guide for bear, moose, Caribou, etc. The last part of your video which includes the camera, video recorder, optics, rangefinder, etc. would help me a lot on where to wear the GoPro, video recorder, etc.. The sit on a seat with a tarp over head really is a classic. If you get a chance comment or something.

Hey Billy, awesome videos- admittedly I didn’t read all he other comments, but you probably bring them, rifle cleaning kit, short rod sections, 1 brush litte oil and patches. I don’t like bore snakes (have had other hunters fill their barrels with snow) and tape!
Thank you for doing a very informative yet concise bag dump video. Its refreshing to see what the guides typically bring/use rather than just what some outdoor company is trying to sell. Would you do a video of what you usually bring in a day pack & what circumstances &/or season you would bring those items? Thanks!
Very helpful - I owe you a beer. I'm prepping for a caribou hunt this August and your advice was solid. I added a couple things to my list I didnt think of and took a few bs items off.
In cold weather, I like to wear silk longjohns or the ultra-lightweight wool version that wicks sweat away from my skin into the next layer of lightweight wool. I use sock liners that are made of the same material and my feet stay warm and dry. The ultra-lightweight silk or ultra-lightweight wool longjohns and liners make all the difference in the world. Before I learned to use them I was either hot and sweaty or sweaty and cold. I regulate my core temp by layering like everyone else. That's another major factor in staying warm and dry don't put on too much when starting out. You are going to be walking and if you have too many layers on you will start sweating and get way too hot then you will be cold the rest of the hunt. Spend your hard-earned money on good hunting clothes and leave the cheap crap at Walmart on the shelf. You will be more comfortable and it will last much longer than the cheap stuff.
I understand your loss of your lab retriever, but your current dog really likes you, just saying. You can tell by what he/she does. Your vids are awesome, camera work, narrating, etc. is something else, you are talented. Maybe we will cross paths in Alaska in the mountains. I generally stay south Alaska, but sometimes get north. Hey Billy. Great info on the amount of stuff to pack for extended stinky hunts. Question - knowing you are in grizzly country all the time, what is your best practice on food containers and smell to try and prevent attracting bears ? Or, do you just not worry with that stuff and just keep your head on a swivel for those snoopy hungry bears ?
Keep a rifle, or at least pistol handy and don't worry about anything else. As you watch my videos you'll see that I, like most guides who live with bears for months at a time, don't follow what the "experts" say.
The bears where Billy is hunting are SUPER fearful of humans. Even though there’s food, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. the scent from the people at camp keep them away.

I got the same revolver as you...
Great info
My favorite thing, you having the New Testament with you. Thanks for all the info though. Deodorant? Or any other personal hygiene stuff? No shovel for #2?
A great interesting and useful video. What about making a video about what annoys you about a client. Maybe doses and don'ts that potential clients can learn from. I imagine you have some very funny and not fun stories about your past guiding experiences. Just an idea. Thanks again for the video👊👊👊
Love it! Thanks for the idea! I will do that around a campfire someday... But 95% of my hunters are great.
@@moderndaymountainman8130 Thanks for the reply but there is that 5 percent....lol. just kidding. Have a safe winter 👊👊👊
Interested in what air to ground radio you use. It wasn't listed on the website gearlist.
Not sure on the brand. I don't know if mine is any better than any others...
Quick question, probably never get back to this haha. Have you ever had a grizzly bear attempt to try to enter or tamper with your tent while staying out there, when you aren't stayin in a cabin? Thank billy, love your videos
Yes I have. Several times. Stay tuned for videos!
Its a Cabelas gun case! Their bullet proof one! ICC is who makes it. Impact Case Company! It's Funny, my sister and B-I-l own the business! In Hayden lake Idaho! I have a few of them. How, rifle, and pistol, and fly rod. Great vid, always live his gear!!
Billy what sleep system do you use. Sleeping bags sleeping pad ect.
Neo air pad by Thermarest. Montbell makes great bags. Kuiu and Stone Glacier are also top-notch.
Awesome video
Can you actually have the ammo in with the rifle? Or do you have to carry it separate in a different bag?
I bought my .375 Ruger in the hopes of getting to Alaska. It's currently my only centerfire rifle so I use it for everything.
Very informative and helpful video. Love your channel
What brand of puffy pants do you recommend? I had a hunt at Chicken this year and nearly froze while glassing!
I've used Montbell and Kuiu. Both are great.
Pay attention to this!!
I gotta tell ya Billy if i seen one of those bears less than a 100 yards from me im gonna need more than one or two pairs of underwear.
This was the longest Kuiu commercial I've watched.
Great video 👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks

Billy,
What do you think of a Henry 45/70 as a bear gun?
I have never hunted bear with a rifle.
Only bear hunting was in college with a roommate and a bow.

It would work.
