    My daughter just started at a Montessori preschool and is loving it. Your morning routine is similar to ours. The only thing I need to work on is making a breakfast station for her to grab food and snacks on her own. Great advice!

      I truly believe in a Montessori approach from the start and when people ask me why my son can dress himself at 1 or enjoys the process of cooking and tidying I just say it is all down to respect for himself and his environment. Your videos have been an inspiration and an education in my parenting journey. People often make fun of my passion for Montessori and roll their eyes when I refer to it. (I really try not at all these days) it seems peoples opinions are so different to mine, like children should be ordered about, conform and act like soldiers at school. I just don’t know what to say to people any more.
      Also, a mirror in your hand washing area would be awesome! I need a hand washing station in my son’s face wiping mirror area!

    I'm dying to see a vlog or snapshot of Kylie in her new environment mingling, focusing, and just being her capable and confident self! She looks so grown up, hair all set, backpack zipped and shoes on ...she is all rested and raring to go. Do you find her any more tired than usual, perhaps after dinner? I'm very impressed with Mia dressing herself and doing the washing up. She is a bundle of energy. [They both are, so healthy and energetic not groggy or whiney like I've seen other kids. Your adherence to a healthy routine is obvious.] Do you need to ever say things like ''let's clean up and decide what to do next'', to keep the day sorta on track? Beautiful day for the children and mommy too!

    It looks like the girls are able to help enough to take some pressure off of you. The various activities seem well-designed to allow you time with Mia and to let her do things alone. And Kylie appears to leave for preschool feeling she has been in some control of her morning.

  • @EstherAndLife
    @EstherAndLife 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Do you ever make suggestions on what to do in the mornings? Like when there was only 25 minutes before getting Kylie did you come up with the idea of playing with chalk outside or was every idea Mia’s?
    Do you ever give suggestions on what the girls could do if they don’t know what to do or have no ideas? Or just let them figure it out for themselves each time?

    You frequently transition with the phrase "and then she decided..." and I love it! I love how empowered she is to make her own choices, and they are good choices! One of my favorite things about the Montessori approach is the assumption that children are capable of making the right choices for them. I imagine that growing up that way would really build self confidence.

    Very glad to hear that Kylie enjoys her school life and Mia got lots of 1:1 time with mama! We have twin boys and they are a little over 2 years and 9 months old, not fully potty trained. We didn’t follow a strict Montessori curriculum, and they can not independently wear their shoes and wash hands. They haven’t been in any daycare and have limited social activities bc of the pandemic. They didn’t understand much English either. So, this Wednesday and Thursday we sent them to the Montessori school for the 1st time, and the teachers called us to pick them up early and said it was not easy day, then the principle called us that they would refund us everything bc our boys are in the ‘twilight zone’ (over toddlerhood but not yet preschooler…). They need a lot of 1:1 attention and support but the class don’t have such resources etc. long story short (already very long though), the principle recommend us to consider Primrose or Godard School… I just would like to hear some suggestions or thoughts from you for situations like ours. Thank you! Your vlog and videos always make me happy and relaxed.

      @MariaandMontessori 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, it really is about following their interests. But you can also help guide her to whatever skill you're hoping to work on while still following her lead. It may be in doing the presentation in shorter bursts, or simply modeling the work in an excited way (fomo is very real with this age), or changing the work to be more aligned with her interests. So for example my girl was really into just running and climbing, liked animals but didn't want to sit still for a language basket activity. So I set up a little obstacle course with our Nuggey, hid the animals, gave her a basket, and started naming them. She had a blast! So I still accomplished the goal of the work, but did so by following her interests 😊

    I know it doesn’t have to do with Montessori, but have you read the book bringing up bébé by Pamela Druckerman? I just finished and I am very intrigued about it and how French people educate children. I think is kind of similar with RIE method. What amuse me the most is that French people do all this without reading 1000 books like me LOL 😆. Also French kids don’t snack, and they have four courses meals 😱. Usually our family eats 4 times a day, 3 big meals and just 1 snack and we never carry anything around 🤣, until know it has worked fine, I don’t know in the future when my toddler has friends.

      I think she addressed it before. A lot to do with scaffolding skills so firstly just take out the pants from the drawer then when that's mastered put them on the ground, then put a leg into a hole while you hold it open so on an so on.
      Also a huge tip is when you are getting them dressed stand behind them so your arms are almost an extension of them, they can observe positioning of hands etc.
      Hope this helps!

    Is Kylie always going to be at preschool only in the morning? In my country from age 3 you go to kindergarten and although the parent has the choice to take kids home after lunch, and if you have a smaller kid at home you are sometimes encouraged to do so, but generally kids stay until about 4pm. (I'm talking about regular state kindergartens I don't know how Montessori ones work in my area)

    What to do if the child is not happy and cries all the time even in the teacher's arms? Is it better to keep her at home and try again next year when she is older or is it better to insist? My 2.5 yo girl isn't comfortable around people/kids but I enrol her in a school twice a week for three hours. Today was her first day but she cried the all time. I was waiting outside and after half an hour I decided to pick her up. Any advice? Thank you. Your girls are awesome! And you as well!!!!!!!

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a very natural response to be upset about a change of environment and routine, especially if she has been with you this whole time! But they learn to interact with other adults and kids better with practice. After a while, they typically are happy in the class with their peers, even if they were crying at drop off (though you can always confirm with the teacher.) A lot of daycares and schools send out pictures weekly or monthly, but you may be able to ask for a couple of her first few days just to put your mind at ease. If you're calm, she will feel more relaxed as well!
      However, 2 days a week may hinder her there. I know for us adults it seems like a gentler transition, and finances are always are something to consider. But toddlers, especially younger ones, do much better with a consistent routine. So even if it's a few hours at school, going there everyday would help her transition a lot faster.

      @@MariaandMontessori thank you for your reply. I know it's not idea sending her only 2 days per week but it's a private school and it's expensive, plus it's far from us, we live in the countryside, and doesn't require vaccines. • @HapaFamily

      I give her lots of “heads up” warnings regarding things like that before they happen, so she doesn’t feel like I’m interrupting what she’s been doing. And if she still isn’t happy about it, I empathize with her feelings about it while using gentle hands to continue to help her to do what needs to happen (e.g., getting into the car). :)
