    Something I've been trying to do is leave my phone in another room and just take time to BE with her. It helps get at all of those points you made-slow down, listen, and observe without having something constantly at the back of my mind that's rushing or distracting me. "Education for life" is SUCH an important aspect of Montessori to remember! We aren't chasing milestones, we're sultivating lifelong success!

      I've been doing exactly the same. It's crazy how easily distracted our minds can be when our phones are even in the same room. 😳 I've decided that when my girls are home with me, I'm solely on "mom time"--without distractions.

      We have a “no technology in the playroom” rule at our house. We remind friends & family phones don’t belong in there & it’s wonderful. Our Little guy knows & will say “it’s playroom time” after I’m done working on my computer every day since we play without difstractions.

      I'm a high school teacher in Italy. Trust me, this is one the greatest gift you could give your child/children: you can't imagine how deeply children. but also teenagers, silently suffer the fact their parents are not able to put their mobiles down and give them their full attention for more than two minutes straight. Congratultion to you if you're choosing to enjoy an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime! 👍

      Yes... I'm so ashamed when I'm using my phone and my 2-year-old comes to me and says "Put it down Maman" 😔

    This video had me tearing 🥲 what a wonderful, well needed reminder. We often forget the massive development our children undergo in the first 1,2,3 years of life that we do get stuck in the grind and forget to marvel at the magic! Their growth, curiosity, independence, opinions, self-expression… I can go on!
    I love the emphasis on practical life and the outdoors. As a novice homeschooling parent, I have to say the majority of our time is spent on practical life; from making the bed, to preparing breakfast, brushing teeth and complete independent dressing. Incorporating outdoor time, equivalent to practical life time, is crucial. At least from what I’ve experienced in terms of fulfillment and satisfying my daughter’s sense of curiosity and exploration. The days we hike or go for long walks she comes home inspired, refreshed and ever so diligent and concentrated in work/play!
    Thank you for these daily tips and continually inspiring the Montessori parenting community ❤

    Thank you so much for this video! It was so informative. It’s so helpful to hear in such an organized way. I am a mom of 5. My oldest are 24, 15 & 12. We had twins during the pandemic. I’m home with them and trying to create the education that my sons received in Montessori school so many years ago. You are exactly right. So much emphasis has been placed on the perfect Montessori playroom. These are the elements I needed to be reminded of. I have been feeling guilty and wondering if my 2 year old twins have been doing enough shelf work. Really they don’t need the shelves. I love what you said about leaning into practical life. Thank you for all your videos!

    Thank you. I'm really grateful for all this recommendations; but specially about the 'just be present' one, time quality and complete attention are precious gifts that we can give to our childs. And that we can enjoy too. This remembered me some days ago that we were coming back home from the park, and I just wanted to get home quickly because it looked like it was about to rain, and the wind was blowing and some yellow leafs fell of a tree and my toddler said: "Look mommy, is a leaf rain" and I stopped for a moment and enjoyed this moment with him, the little things that in our daily rush we don't always appreciate.

    When I first saw the title I thought 'parents' said 'plants'!! Lol I was thinking 'well that's very precise but I guess it's important to look after your plants ! 🪴

    Great point about not interrupting them to foster better focus!
    We made the mistake of signing our daughter up for Taekwondo. She has lost interest and now we’re stuck with another year of payments & stressful rushing to classes.😩

    I'm reading the last chapter of "The absorbing mind". First of all, thank you so much for suggesting it in the video about the best books in preparation to parenthood, if it wasn't for you I would probably have heard about it too late, or never at all! Secondly, in this 20 minute video you were able to give a clear idea about the very core of the Montessori approach, I'm sure I will get back to it many times when I will feel overwelmed or discouraged or insecure in the next months. My baby is due around february 10th, I can't wait to see her and start my Montessori journey with her. (I've recently found out it will be a girl 💖)

      Don't stress yourself out in the first few months. I also did a lot of prep prior to birth, even being a teacher for 13 years, I felt like I really wanted to make sure she was given every opportunity but I think I made the whole new parent thing a lot more stressful than it needed to be.

    I needed this. Been having so much guilt.... making preperations and adjusting to a new routine and a new stage of development trying to catch up to where our toddler is also on top of the other new difficult responsibilities. I am so in need of these reminders evry day to reassure me of the main benefits of doing Montessori as a parent for my child weather or not i have set evrything up properly for her or i feel i am lacking in my duties to her. Its hard to not feel guilty about the mistakes. I Iove that there are ways to rectify our mistakes and that the impact of the 1 in 100 mistakes we make is not as strong as the rest of the love they feel and experience throughout the week with us. A lot of rewiring you're right😭. Ahahah.
    Lots of love and appreciation for the continuing videos here to the series and of course when i get a chance to go through the community as well which i recommend to evry parent who is feeling a bit alone in this journey of parenting in such a way. ❤❤❤❤

    LOVE ur channel so much! (Even with the changes😘) u have taught me so much & I love watching my 2 yr old twins learning & helping me w the daily tasks in our lives!! … and they WANT to help!!! My son & daughter can already do things that some other older children I see can/do not… My goal in life has always been my children’s independence and individuality but you are such a positive influence. Just needed you to know that❤
    Love from PA

    This video came at the perfect time for me. Thank you. I need to remember to stop talking. My daughter has just turned 2 and is very dependant on me to choose what to do and then to participate with her. She often won't do anything unless I do it with her. I created this dependence and I am finding it very hard to step back now.

    It would be nice to share maybe how do you deal with a "no" situation. My daughter is 3 and she started saying "no" to almost anything I ask her. Although I do prepare her in advance and I do use different vocabulary so it doesn't sound like I am giving orders. I don't want to bribe her either but sometimes I have to. It is so frustrating :( Thank you.

    Ashley, have you found that Mia is interested/capable of using the crates that Kylie receives? I have been keeping an eye on their crates and it always seemed that they got super interesting from the Kiwi Crate 🥝

    • @HapaFamily
      @HapaFamily  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To a degree, yes. She would still need assistance from an adult in completing the project for a Kiwi Crate (since it is 5+), and to that end, she does better with the Koala Crates. The learning interests/topics also seem to be much more age-appropriate in the Koala Crate for Mia, whereas some of the Kiwi Crates have more of a science/engineering angle that she's not quite interested in yet (whereas Kylie clearly finds them fascinating).

    Could you say which of the Montessori books that quote at 7:46 came from? 😁

  • @laartje24
    @laartje24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How do you see if a child is ready for more independance, and on the other hand, what are signs that they are not completely ready for the independence you gave them? I find it hard to gage what amount of independence a child is ready for. And them being interested does not always mean they are ready for the responsibility.

    I'd love to talk less and listen more while my 2.5yr daughter is playing. But it's her who always wants to talk/ask me questions and try to get me involve with whatever she's playing. I don't know how am I able to change the situation.
