I think the same way you do how is it colder air getting in when the engine is right next to it blowing hot air everywhere even though the heat shield is installed shouldn't it be facing down under the car where the airflow comes in faster and flows more that's my thoughts maybe I'm wrong let me know thanks man 🤘🇺🇸
Hiram Daoud I agree with both of you, the grimmspeed Intake seems to utilize the stock funnel and is blocked off pretty well. But looking at any other high performance engine like 2jz or rb26, they have big intakes right under the hood as well.
I have a 2019 wrx sti I bought this kit from Perrin. Did not Install yet because of reviews I'm confused don't know much about cold air intakes just learning how they work but debating if I should install or not because I don't want to void warranty. And I hear if you tune with a warranty and bring the car for service to dealer they will know. And what's with the bogging in one of the reviews that doesn't sound good bottom line will it f up my car and check engine light come on.
I ran this on my 15 wrx for 500 miles on stock tune and after i let the ECU learn the new airflow i did some WoT pulls and the car bogged and started knocking. even when easing onto the throttle the car made less power as it was leaning out. I strongly disagree running this without a tune. No CeLs but id rather my car not be put through this torture for some audible turbo noise.
We have found that, in 100% stock form with the factory intake, the car has audible knocking especially when running the AC or on hot days on the factory tune - running any sort of mod other than a tune isn't going to help that unfortunately. It also would have been even worse if your '15 WRX didn't have the recall done yet.
So whats the verdict on this. Stock tune works because of they designed it. I know intakes are noises makers but I like noises! The real question is does this F the engine up overtime? Has anyone run this for a considerable amount of time?
Threw an AEM one on my 2018 wrx 2 days ago. So far she feels like shes ‘learning’/reading the intake? Idk but it felt weird. I lost power in my windows, came out got in er at lunch n everything works as it should and she was pulling alot smoother than stock It reads off the OEM MAF so it must read and correct idk enough. I may have a rebuild coming soon ahaha 💨💨
You guys say no tune but everywhere that I look it says you need to get a tune. I'm so confused. I want to get 1 but don't wanna void my warranty if it requires a tune
Warranty will only be voided if any damage was caused by the intake. If it’s not due to running lean by the intake then your warranty will still be valid. Also, since this isn’t a high HP intake for. And a small diameter tubing, your only getting sound and colder air. Not “ more” air. The “ more” air that people are scared of making the car run lean. Doesn’t really make sense. Because if a simple intake caused engine failure these engine would blow at sea level. Or higher elevation. And we know that’s not the case which means the ECU can adjust to the AFRs. Definitely want to make sure you run a. Quality gas. And a moderate intake that not for higher Hp. Just sound. The only time an intake will cause issues is if it’s rated for really high numbers. Watch some videos of people running FA20DIts stock then adding the intake and it’s not much of a change.
Thanks, but no thanks. The factory box is a cold air intake (too); hence the scoop over the grill. It's just designed for longevity, ease of service, and price considerations. I'm sure the factory box lives in other Subaru cars with similar engines but may utilize different hoses as required.
I was not able to get the bottom bracket to reach the bumper beam. I have a 2020 WRX. I tried loosening everything and moving shit around but it just wouldn’t even get close. Any tips? I’ve just got it secured with the top bracket and it seems fine for now but I’d like to have it on the right way eventually.
@@toan8570 I did notice after looking back at it and the pictures with the instructions that I may have some washers on the wrong side. Can’t remember what specifically but I might try and mess around with it again. It’s been holding up fine though with just the top bracket secured.
There is no benefit to this intake over the stock one except for noise. This intake would pull hot engine bay air into the turbo instead of pulling cold air in from in front of the radiator. Fun fact, if an intake doesn't require a tune, there is no performance gain.
+Preparation H while no tuning is required (when using with factory tune) you will want to still consider it to take advantage of the increased flow capacity,
I wouldn’t ever install this without a tune. If you talk to any proctuner that is knowledgeable with subies they need a tune even on a drop in filter. Everything I’ve done to my subie has needed a tune. Car has been tuned about 4 times and on the dyno about 5-6 times haven’t had any issues
Also, please stop spreading incorrect information about mods. This is taking right from a post by a employee from Perrin. Why no tuning is required.. The Perrin Intake gains power by removing bends (smoother transition from filter to rubber inlet hose), and a less restrictive filter. The size of the tubing mainly effects the MAF readings and in our case the size and placement is such that the MAF readings are not thrown off causing lean conditions which require a tune or throw check engine lights (like most intakes). This allows customers to bolt it on, NOT need a tune, get some cool sounds and not hold back power from future mods. We do have lots of dyno graphs showing the gains but the gains are minimal on a stock car. forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2800196
