Imagine you work to compose such a beautifully orchestrated track that matches the theme and action within a fun and visually breathtaking scene and they replace it with one of the most overplayed 80's pop songs. As much as I like "Take On Me" as a song in general, this matches SO MUCH better.
Illumination just couldn't help themselves, could they?
It matches so well because it was made with this scene
The composer had to fight tooth and nail just to keep the super star theme for the finale…
lol, I swear that I have heard Take On Me more this century, than the last. And that’s even with me getting the album, and listening to every 80s lunch hour or weekend the radio stations had, which seemed to be a bit odd, because it was the 90s. The 80s wasn’t that long ago. Where’s the nostalgia factor?
It did have a great music video, probably one of the best in history, which helped cement its fame into becoming a soundtrack for the 80s, but this, and Tears For Fears Everybody Wants to Rule The World are the most overplayed songs of the 80s. I think they beat out anything from Michael Jackson.
Maybe because the pop music of today is so terrible, they can’t help but continue to reintroduce the classics to future generations.
@@awesomeocelot7475 Jesus Christ I cant imagine how the ending scene would've been without that start theme. WTH would they have put Thunderstruck by ACDC? Good God it could've ruined the whole scene!
I'm so sad they did not use this song in the movie, it's a great track that fits a lot better then Take On Me does
I misread this as Glad...twice. XD
I’ll be honest. Take on Me was a better decision.
@@humanshrek1836 No, it absolutely was not.
@@randompersonontheinternet1635 Yes. It absolutely was.
Take on me made no sense in this scene. The original track is a lot better because it actually sounds like it was composed specifically for this scene. Take on me sounds like it was slapped there with no explanation.
Whoever at Illumination thought Take on Me was a better choice deserves to find no happiness in life
Preach
Probably the same person who tried to have Van Halen play at the Superstars scene
They deserve _0_ coins
Or since this was a Mario Kart scene, they deserve to be Mario Karted
Don’t say that.
Yeah even in the theater I was like “why is take on me here”
This is much better!
At about 0:33, you can hear the theme from DK Jungle. Such a shame they slapped Take on Me over this. The original score fits much better.
And there's the intro from DK Country in there as well
0:46
@@Vincent-in1uc After hearing those rhythms from this song that person who put take me on instead this gold nugget oughta get kicked behing with army boots
This movie needs a directors' cut fr💀💀💀
Brian Tyler's Cut 😂
WTF THIS IS GREAT! It fits perfectly, plays tribute 0:45
I love Take on Me on it's own but COMPLETELY ruins the scene because the lyrics distract you from what is happening on screen!
Illumination's brand to put popular songs where they don't fit just for the sake they are popular 🤨
Literally the only one I think fit the movie well was that one song during the scene with that stupid dog and when Mario and Luigi were doing parkour to the dog's house. Other than that, WHY USE TAKE ON ME TO PRESENT THE JUNGLE KINGDOM? WHY??
1:04 really disappointed that we didn’t get that awesome DKC melody when the glider was revealed :((
Illuminate deserves a punch from Donkey Kong for not using this original composition.
I'd love an edited version of this movie where the original tracks are edited back in
And with other languages
I have the edited version

@@smartass643 You have my attention.
@@Dinictus I’ll put it in the comment of my Garfield video so you guys can save the thing and see it
No joke, i was JUST talking to a friend yesterday about this EXACT part of the movie and how this song couldve worked better. And i just found this video right now out of curiosity
In a perfect world, all the cut songs would’ve been in the movie
Imo, all of the pop songs fit their scenes better than their score counterparts
Except this one, yeah Take on Me completely fucking ruins the scene so much that it alone completely outweighs how much the other pop songs fit their scenes, I would be totally content with no pop songs if it meant Drivin' Me Bananas was in the movie
It’s featured in the directors cut
@@smartass643 which.... doesn't exist
@@smartass643 there’s a directors cut!?!
@@pirate_cove_man it’s technically fanmade.
This is the superior version. Take On Me is a good song, but that's not a song that makes me go "Yeah, Donkey Kong Country! A-ha and apes on go karts!"
THIS. IS. SO. MUCH. BETTER.
No
thank you. This is really well edited.
Why do I get the feeling they're going to use this song for the DK solo movie?
Seriously this song would've worked much better and probably been cheaper to use than take on me. I guess with sucess of guardians of the galaxy the exes thought an 80s song would go over better or there idiots.
Sadly, Shigeru Miyamoto also felt "Take On Me" fit the scene quite well...
@@HyperKadaj Big oopsie Shiggy...
@@HyperKadajhe should be fired
Hate to be that guy but it’s they’re idiots
@@smartass643 That's the CEO of Nintendo!
I personally enjoyed Take On Me in this scene, but I think Universal Pictures, Illumination Entertainment, and Nintendo should’ve used this track instead. This easily would’ve been better if we got to hear some music from the Donkey Kong games.
I am sure they would have used the track since the track lines up well with the scene as well as its theme, but I guess the higher ups figured they would make sells higher if they put an 80s song on a children’s film for the adults in the audience.
One day somebody’s gonna upload the Mario Movie with the original soundtrack on the internet
"AWW BY ALL MEANS, COM-"
love that
FINALLY!! I was waiting for someone to actually edit this together as in having the original ost while the audio and sound effect remain intact and not just the whole OST in the scene only!
I like both versions, but this is better, yes
No
@@serenatsukino5928
I likem both. but the other audio not in the movie was better, IMO
As much as I loved hearing 'Take On Me' during this scene... 'Driving Me Bananas' makes it work WAY more!
I liked the use of Take On Me when watching the movie, but now I'm sad for what we missed here...
Now I have an idea. I might rent out a cinema room for the day and make an edit of the Mario movie with the non 80s pop songs
They should release a cut of the movie with the score restored.
Everyone who was involved composing this, should be proud of themself.
Bows down to knees *Thank You!!!*
If they can keep “Superstars” for the final battle instead of lazily inserting Van Halen’s “Jump,” then there’s *NO* excuse here!!!
No
Tbh i heard Brian Tyler barely won to put at least Superstars in a movie
Tbh if i was one of those trumpet players or violinists putting my heart and soul into this soundtrack i would've cried like a baby if i found out this masterpiece was replaced in the end like B(TCH DONT TOUCH ME IM ON A SENSITIVE RAMPAGE FOR YEARZ TO COME
Is that a Rock n' Roll racing sound effect for the tires skidding at 0:16? Awesome.
Those score musicians really wasted their time.
Brian Tyler made about 3 songs for this movie and they were completely taken over by Pop Culture songs which sucks Because all the songs were bops
Nintendo should hired Dreamworks, he would never put any licensed music for a video game adaptation movie. But still associated with Illumination he could avoid any liscenced music out cuz being stressed out.
I truly believe whoever at Illumination made the decision to cut the original pieces should be shamed for their entire life
Can we petition a version of the film with the original soundtrack restored?
Such a baffling choice
Take on me feels like a fan editi while this song matches the scene to a tea
Sometimes i randomly remember that this song was replaced with "take on me" in the movie and my blood pressure spikes with rage
the part with the glider still gives me chills
such a shame....
Infinitely better than the take on me bullshit
This movie was awesome, but my only issue is them removing this song part, it fit so well.
"Ah, by all means, come"
1:15 *Mario:* Thanks for the ride, sir!
*Sports Coat Kong:* Any time.
Much better music than the other one this movie uses couple real licensed songs
i'm absolutely gonna shove this into my 4:3 pan and scan conversion of this movie, since this fits better
but weirdly this doesn't seem to match up with the version of the movie i have? like, there's significant desync after i line up the first parts of this
EDIT: a lot of the cuts are a few frames shorter, which adds up over time! i think this scene is like, 2 seconds shorter overall compared to the version i have; but, nothing a lil video editing trickery can't fix up. now it works!
If you don't mind, could you link a Google Drive with your version of the movie?
Peach Mario and Toad
*THE Toad
I love Take On Me but using that song was such a weird choice given the musical legacy of the DKC series
I always enjoyed this scene so much. Its like going to space mountain in Disneyland.🤣
Ok I take it back. This is way better than Welcome to The Jungle
This >>>>>> Tay Kong Me
It’s a hope but I know it won’t happen; I hope that Illuminations realized that popular 80s aren’t always the key to hooking an audience. A beautifully composed soundtrack is enough. Hopefully Brian Taylor has full music control if and when Mario Movie 2 becomes a thing
EDIT: a Mario Movie announcement was made on Mar10 day, fingers crossed they listened
Man, those snatches of Jungle Japes and the original Donkey Kong theme strewn in the song...! I hope that Nintendo tightens the leash on those hacks at Illumination next time.
0:35 *Peach:* WOW! What a view of the jungle!
I dont know who decide to deleted this song, but theres something bag with him
"oh by all means, cu"
Man, this song SUCKS! Take On Me is WAY better! Great decision on Illumination’s part.
-Literally No One
I mean, the song is good and all, and it KIND OF fits, but they really should’ve used this one. Fits so much better.
-Pretty Much Everyone
I want somebody to get the scene without any music and add "Jungle level" to it. That would be the peak of this scene.

I thought I had just discovered fire this AM when I made the connection. Muted the movie this afternoon and turned my phone on just to test my hypothesis. Come to find out I’m the last one to the party. Beautiful thing you’ve done here. I can’t believe this wasn’t used in the actual movie!
And look at it, it was clearly synced perfectly! They created the music specifically to sync in every cut moment!
Considering the original somgs were cut due ti time constraints, they could release a directors cut that includes the original scores.
Rewatching the Mario movie rn, paused it, watched this, then skipping ahead. Now it feels right
You cannot my disappointment when I found this fucking gem in the track list and I IMMEDIATELY knew where it goes and what it got replaced by. Actual dumbest decision of the whole movie.
I remembered that scene before since on Spring Break!
Well now that I was able to rewatch the movie on Netflix, I did the ideal way of watching it by pausing the movie when it gets to this scene, then putting on this video with the fixed music before continuing with the rest of the movie
imagine they choosing a character to help mario in this moment and not knowing the next super popular donkey kong character called funky kong
This is leagues better as it fits the kong island theme
For the after post scene credits, i would chosen LVL UP by Xaebor.
BTW, i just realised that in the ending scene (of Mario and Luigi waking up), Wake The Sun by The Matches should have been played... i like 80's songs but damn, give more appreciation to 2000's and 2010's songs.
Ok... now i also realised that in the scene of Mario training, THEY SHOULD HAVE PUT START ALL OVER BY MILEY CYRUS...
Who's decision was to replace this with Take On Me anyway?
C'est mieux comme ça. Je comprends pas pourquoi avoir mis ''Take on me'' et ''Need a hero''.
This is way cooler!
0:49 i just noticed the animator knew nobody was gonna be looking at toad
Illumination studios... why do you keep putting pop songs in movies that had better original songs?
Is this what the rumor was about when Nintendo was trying to stop changes in the movie?
wait wdym they didn’t use this music for this scene? It fits so well!
they were gonna use a version of the DKC theme but replaced it with Take On Me? My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
0:24 Did Toad sound like Goofy screaming, except in excitement?
I'm actually kind of relieved that they used Take on Me instead of this. The Mario series really doesn't need to poach from the Donkey Kong series more than it already does.
This composition could and should be used in a proper standalone Donkey Kong Country movie.
wait have we ever seen unused compositions in a movie repurposed for another
Even though Take On Me is a great song, this music should’ve been used.
Everytime they had some stupid 80s rock song in it, I was like "but why?" They had so many opportunities to use Nintendo songs. This is what I wanted.
oh by all means, come
Hop in
More fitting than Take On Me. In fact I didn't recognize any other DK tracks from this movie. Other than DK Rap, of course
Though it's possible they only created this track for timing purposes
The bit of them arriving at the DK kingdom right before this part briefly quotes DK Island Swing from the first Donkey Kong Country game.
If they put in any music they should have used an updated version of the "Jungle Hijinx" theme from Donkey Kong Country...
Is there a reason why did they changed this track by Take n Me?
I’m really curious as to where did he found the clean audio
Some brain-dead executive *insisted* on those pop songs because he saw some show or movie from 10 years ago that had already done it better.
This must’ve been some brainless studio executive’s decision. I refuse to believe that it was a creative choice by an actual filmmaker to throw this music out and just lazily slap on “Take On Me” instead.
Take on me gave me goosebumbs and loved it more
Has anyone here tried putting up Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone to this scene?
Omg Mauro from the Mauro movie where mari can forge do cars so he brightens the bowser so he can save preshh do and his brother and they all kiss thh is is my fiwvrrite movies every Thank you gore making ethos amseinw miveir
Call me crazy, but it feels too serious. Better than Take on Me? Sure, but it's still not quite right in a different way.
I find it comes down to the individual. I think the vibe DK country gives off perfectly suits the original theme. If they were more wacky and silly than take on me could work but it's clear that the song take on me and the scene have no connection. The OG track has clear intention with pacing in the scene.
Ahora en español latino
Sorry but the Take on Me was much better. Even though this theme makes more sense it just hits different and not in a good way.
Why the fvck they have to replace this OST with Take On Me? 😭😭😭 I like Take On Me but NGL, it didn't fit for the scene...
The more I watch this scene, even with the actual DK music, the more I get annoyed that they didn't use Funky Kong here. Like, it's not as bad as the whole Toadsworth fiasco with the Toad general because Funky is in the movie during the Rainbow Road scene, but this was still a huge missed opportunity that I genuinely think they did just to piss us off lmao
I think both musical choices have their merit. Obviously this one has DK themes and thus that connection to the greater Mario/DK franchise. I think it can be argued that "Take On Me" conveys more of a sense of wonder, and is perhaps a bit higher energy.
I would honestly say the sense of wonder felt a little jarring, this has a bit more of a tense and dangerous feel which I think fits the story way better. I mean some random dude probably dies in this scene lmao
Take on Me version is confusing but this also just seems kinda boring and not as exciting. Its too quiet and can barely tell there's any music
Miles better
