      @@zackawesomeness2506 yeah, but it also doesn't really make sense when looking at the game lore. Foreman spike was their boss and he was trying to get them killed on the job in the original. Wario was implied to be an old childhood rival of Mario's and he didn't become CEO of a major company until AFTER he was defeated by Mario and went on his own adventure. I could see why Nintendo went with spike rather than wario since it's much more accurate to the source material that way

      And for how much dumb and dump is now in childrens movies... It's a masterpiece.
      And i know that many people cry Luigi was basicly a damsel in distress, but it works more in the story. It gives Mario more motivation to defeat Bowser that vague "rescue some random person that you don't know about". Trust me people that made it put more though to this that random cirtics think. Tbh they nailed the entire concept of the Mario universe in this movie
    -There’s really no emotional backstory, just kingdoms in war against each other
    -Bowser is extremely powerful and in love with a princess, this is correct again
    -The pipes are basically magic transporters, always have been
    -The powerups make it so that literally anyone can fight battles for a small period of time, there’s no power-scaling at all
    -The way Bowser’s minions are dealt with is exactly how you’d expect, they are just nameless soldiers that get knocked around
    -There’s really no deeper meaning to any of this, which is refreshing, because there isn’t any of that in any Mario games, it’s meant to be exciting and fun

    The only part of the movie I had an issue with regarding the pacing was Mario, Princess Peach and Toad's journey to the Jungle Kingdom. I felt like they could've used the time to develop the connection between Mario and Princess Peach more as those moments to me were some of the best parts of the movie, not to mention more funny Toad moments. My guess for them choosing not to stretch it out was due to the target audience being mostly kids and as such, avoiding the more adult theme of romance.

    • @the4tkministry

    One thing I personally liked about the characterisation of Mario and Luigi was the brotherly love they had for each other. Although Luigi does get unfairly limited screen time in the movie, and I know a lot of people like to make fun of or make parodies about Mario being a bigshot and hogging the spotlight while Luigi always gets bullied, I was really touched by the brotherly bond the two had in this film, and it really warmed my heart to see how much the two cared about each other, and seeing how close Mario was to break down in tears after reuniting with his brother was quite wholesome. Not to mention Mario always looking out for his little bro and Luigi supporting his brother's dream and overcoming his fear in the final act. Reminded me of my connection with my brother

  • @TheZeroNeonix
    @TheZeroNeonix ปีที่แล้ว +80

    I understand people saying that Luigi was underutilized in this film, but it makes sense for what it was going for. The idea was that the brotherly bond between him and Mario makes them unstoppable, so when they finally get back together in the end and kick Bowser's cloaca, it's a good payoff. Also, when it comes to story structure, Luigi basically serves as the damsel in distress. Which is funny, because Peach usually serves that role. I'm fine with that. Reuniting with Luigi is Mario's whole motivation in this movie. We'll inevitably get sequels, and we can see more of the brothers in action there. Maybe we'll even get Wario and Waluigi to serve as foils for them. Although then Illumination would have an excuse to fall back on their usual fart jokes...

    • @solidzack
      @solidzack 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That's what I'm saying. It's canonical for Luigi to get himself into unfortunate situations and be reliant on Mario's help moreso, whereas Mario can also handle most situations on his own. Luigi does get his moments to shine sometimes, and when he does, he delivers hard (a certain giant battle from Dream Team Bros. comes to mind). But since Princess Peach has always been the weak and powerless damsel in distress that does absolutely nothing otherwise, I'm perfectly fine with them switching places for once until the last fight, in which Luigi ends up assisting his brother (which is also a canonical trait for him to square up eventually and aid Mario in dangerous situations).

    I like that every actually honest reviewer agrees on "the movie is basic, and that's perfect".
    It isn't a subversive masterpiece with mature messages and introspective character development like Puss in Boots 2, but it didn't need to be. Its only mistake is being too fast-paced to add as much as possible in such a short playtime, and if it was just a little longer they could've fixed that. But other than that, the movie is exactly what it needed to be; straight to the point, basic, entertaining, and not bad at all, exactly as any good Mario game is.

      One of the few movies I’ve seen that I legitimately wish was longer by 15 to 30 minutes. But as the starter to a franchise it’s perfect. Maybe future films can get more emotionally intense or maybe not. But I love this universe and I am down for all the films. Luigi’s Mansion is a must. Donkey Kong Country could be great. The crew getting trapped in a dream by Wart in a sequel would be fantastic. A Mario RPG type movie where Mario and Bowser need to team up to fight a greater threat. Punch Out, Kid Icarus, Zelda, Metroid, SMASH CROSSOVER.

    Also, just saying, but I REALLY wanted more of Lumalee. They’re certainly one of my favourites from the movie, and I wish we got to see more of them, so we can learn how exactly they got imprisoned by Bowser in the first place, and what potentially drove them into this nihilistic state they’re in. My whole family watched this movie together last night and honestly had a great time with it. Even my parents, who aren't super hardcore Mario fans, thought it was fun.
    Would it be nice if like maybe 20 minutes were added onto the film's runtime to let every scene breathe a little bit more (And I'm not talking about really adding anything new. Just expanding on what's already there.)? Absolutely. But that's honestly my only problem when what we got was a lighthearted good time. Sometimes you just need a movie that's fun.

    I've loved Princess Peach all my life and was initially worried after seeing her with a deeper voice and tough personality in the trailers- cuz while Peach can be a kickass I was worried they'd overdo the girlboss thing. I was SO glad that they made her a strong female character that wasn't obnoxious with the "girl power" in the slightest 🙏

    I saw this movie in IMAX, and it was awesome. Just pure, unadulterated fun. It's got amazing animation, awesome references, colorful action and great, non cringy humor. In addition to Jack Black's incredible performance and banger song, "Peaches". It's definitely the best movie Illumination has put out yet, apart from _Despicable Me._

    The reason so many middle 80s, late 80s and early 90s songs are used in this movie is because that is the era when Mario as a franchise first peaked. It's the little details that make a movie perfect.
