Here's the constantly up-to-date list of corrections and additions to the video. (If caught by someone else, I also heart the corresponding comments!)
    CORRECTIONS
04:21 Wrong Summer Breeze! Correct one is by Piper in 1983.
05:52 Only the later bass line is original to DKC; the melody is from the NES port of the arcade DK.
07:10 This is the Tower music I discuss later; I forgot to update this part after I recognized it as a reference late in scripting.
10:51 Meant to say this extension is not in Galaxy - the motif persisted after 3D World.
    NOT CORRECTIONS
00:19 Since this series is specifically about game music, I didn't mention the Super Show here. But I should have.
10:25 Although the Captain Toad game has that music too, I try to point to the first games to feature it (like in my DK correction).
    DEFINITE REFERENCES
💿 Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom 1:09 ← 🎮 Underground
    💿 Blue Shelled 0:51 ← 🎮 Mario Party Battle Canyon 0:22
⤷ Can't be unheard! Due to the lack of thematic connection, I thought it was a coincidence, but: twitter.com/briantylermusic/status/1645978124348452865
    💿 An Indecent Proposal 0:28 ← 🎮 SM64 Bowser
💿 Rainbow Road Rage 0:39, An Indecent Proposal 1:55, Fighting Tooth and Veil 1:11 ← 🎮 NSMB Wii Tower
⤷ Yeah I caught Tower pretty late in scripting.
    💿 Fighting Tooth and Veil 1:59 ← 🎮 SMB3 P-speed
⤷ Obviously, but for some reason I decided against including it _despite_ mentioning Bowser's laugh.
💿 Superstars 0:25 (can be heard while I talk at 18:05) ← 🎮 SMB Ending
    💿 Superstars 1:17 ← 🎮 SMB3 Victory Fanfare
⤷ Four notes of when you beat a fortress in Mario 3.
    POSSIBLE REFERENCES
💿 Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom 0:25 ← 🎮 Super Mario Galaxy Course Select
⤷ Same instruments in the same general range, but little else to grab onto.
💿 Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom 1:23 ← 🎮 NSMB Wii... multiple?
⤷ Now this one's a rabbit hole. The three sting notes there could be those that play at 0:03 in the NSMBW Title, reinforced by how they're in the same key and how they're soon followed by the PAH and P-Switch. But there's the 1:24-1:33 stretch from WttMK in-between, that I could never identify, _but_ it's not dissimilar to 0:20 in the NSMBW Opening Theme. What to do?
    💿 The Darklands 1:36 ← 🎮 SMB Castle
⤷ Close, but doesn't go through the same motions.
💿 Lost and Crowned 0:56 ← 🎮 SMG Comet Observatory
⤷ Just the first 4 notes of Comet Observatory (ignoring the flute), but with the 2nd lowered to make the whole thing minor.
💿 Drivin' Me Bananas 0:36 ← 🎮 Mario Kart Super Circuit Riverside Park 0:22
⤷ That part matches neither the DKC theme nor Riverside Park perfectly, but it's closer to the latter by half.
    💿 Imprisoned 0:07 (14:38 in this video) ← 🎮 NSMB Castle 0:07
⤷ Remove the 2nd note in NSMB and it's the same intervals.
💿 Practice Makes Perfect 0:15 ← 🎮 Super Mario Galaxy Luma
⤷ But not the melody! Only the backing chords - in the same key, too.
    💿 Karts! 0:52 ← 🎮 Mario Kart Wii Main Menu 0:44
    💿 An Indecent Proposal 2:32 ← 🎮 Underwater
⤷ This 3-note sequence is too routine to _always_ be Underwater.
    💿 Grapple in the Big Apple 1:41 ← 🎮 Super Mario 64 Bowser 0:23
⤷ Would be a reference did it not skip the fourth note of that little sequence...
    💿 Super Mario Bros. Opus 2:32 ← 🎮 The Odyssey’s First Takeoff
⤷ Close, but this kind of sequence is quite generic.

I noticed in the description you said you’d pin this comment even though you haven’t yet, so you probably should!
(Also when Bowser grabs the Super Star at 3:22 in King of the Koopas, I noticed that not only is the Super Star theme playing in minor key (which you covered), but it also sounds very similar to the Power Star Get theme in Super Mario Galaxy!)

@@pokemon_trainer_isaiah I played the kong driving scene on the entire mario movie vocoded to gangster's paradise on mute with Driving Me Bananas playing in another tab at the same time Take On Me starts. The music is actually perfectly synced with the scene.
The Jungle Hijinx leitmotif hits as soon as the full kong kingdom comes into view, there's a slight bit of suspense when the car swerves suddenly and mario's about to fall out, and then there's a big music build-up while going up the final ramp up until they start to fall and the music cuts out for a second, only for it to come back in a powerful and triumphant orchestral version of the donkey kong country arrangement as the glider opens and it finally comes to a close as they arrive in the hall of the kong army.
Whatever executive decided to replace an orchestral arrangement of a classic theme associated with the scene created to match up perfectly with what's happening on screen with a hollywood song needs better taste

18:54 - "back in my days rainbow road didn't have rails" made me chuckle.
That was a number 1 for me too.
Rainbow Road was a quite a final level. A bit of a feat to reach, worth it's 'final challenge' status, very climactic track visually and most of all, an amazing musical piece to capture it too.
In the movie, I was wondering if they were doing Mario Kart 3's (Mario Kart Super Circuit's) Rainbow Road which had that segment for its intro before doing it's own thing. It did not. ^.^

    • @NicD
      @NicD  ปีที่แล้ว

I had that pointed out last week (if it's what I'm thinking of), prompting me to add the following to my pinned comment; what do you think?
💿 Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom 1:23 ← 🎮 NSMB Wii... multiple?
⤷ Now this one's a rabbit hole. The three sting notes there could be those that play at 0:03 in the NSMBW Title, reinforced by how they're in the same key and how they're soon followed by the PAH and P-Switch. But there's the 1:24-1:33 stretch from WttMK in-between, that I could never identify, but it's not dissimilar to 0:20 in the NSMBW Opening Theme. What to do?
