I think this would have to be in the Super Mario 3D World style because it would just match the realistic Mario feel of SMO. But that would be extremely hard to mod, so we would probably need Nintendo to do it for us.

Here is (my own) moveset on Mario Odyssey. I know it's late, but at least I had my own opinion.
Up throw = A and Up + B
Sideways throw = **while standing** Left or Right + B
Ground Pound = A and Down
Dive = A and Left or Right + A + B
Down throw = **while standing or jumping** Down + B
Return Cap Jump = Sideways throw, then A (makes jump in midair a bit.)
Long Jump = **while running** Down (or downleft or downright) + A
Backflip = **while ducking** A
Sideflip = **while skidding** A
Underwater Ground Pound = *while underwater* Down + B
Swimdive = **while underwater** Left or Right + A + B
Wall Jump = **while riding against the wall** A
Cap Jump = A + Sideways throw + Dive to land on Cappy
Roll = **while ducking** Down (Or Downleft or Downright while running) + A + B
Ledge Grab = Holding Left or right on the Ledge
Triple Jump = Jump three times after landing while moving
Ground Pound Jump = After Ground Pound, A
Spin Jump = Rotating Joystick or Arrow Buttons + A
Spin Throw = Rotating Joystick or Arrow Buttons + B
Spin Pound = Spin Jump + Down
Grounded Cap Jump = Down Throw, after Cappy returns to you, A
Rolling Cap Jump = Down Throw + Dive to land on Cappy
Cap Jump Dive = Cap Jump + Dive
Point out if I had a mistake. Hope that helps.
I've installed this, it's a really good mod, one thing I like to do is: spinjump, at the peak of jump throw cappy, rapidly dive, do a cap jump and dive again, its really good for going in upper places
The animations are actually really good!
I know the guy who made this. He's pretty cool.
He wears two hats: His real and Cappy. Nothing criminal.
Mario is literally bragging how good he is at squatting up and down in this video.
Hopefully when the next super mario maker comes out, there would be more 2D versions of the 3D games like Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Odessy, and each of them should have the life meters as well

Custom characters don't use scripts. They use custom enemies and custom animations

Smashy I discovered a weird softlock in Online Co-op.
1. Only 2 players were present, me and the other person.
2. It was a speedrun level and the timer was 6.
3. I gave up since the level was unbeatable in co-op.
4. I heard the death sound from when you lose from a time up.
5. I couldn't spawn any where and disconnecting the internet doesn't do any thing. The game just stays there in the give up state.
My ideas of why this happens.
1. The timer could still be ticking and hit 0 as I up but this does not normally softlock the game.
2. Me and the other player gave up at the same time making the game confused.
3. When I died from the pipe it probably stored Mario there so that softlocked.
Finally this could be a very difficult and rare glitch which somehow softlocks the game. Also I don't know that much about it other then it softlocked my game

OMG I found another rare thing in online co op. If you upload a glitch level and get that picked in the random selection you'll get a message saying "The Course Data is Corrupt"

Okay, so I already tried speedrunning the whole classic SMB with Odyssey Mario, and trust me, your hand will hurt a lot if you are not perfect enough to make all the tricks at the right time, Id recommend using a TASBOT to make the speedrun since it requires perfect angle and manouvering
