Today we're going to figure out if it's possible to beat Mario Odyssey if we play through the entire game as 2D Mario! This challenge was a lot of fun to work on and practice so I hope you enjoy the end result!

Aw you could have used the 3D 8bit costume for mario when he wasn't 2D! That would have been cool, also if there's ever a way to have Bowser be 2D as well because he can hover just like Mario can
The sprites for 2D Bowser are used in the escape sequence, surely it can't be too much harder for that to be added to the mod. Then again I've got no experience in switch modding.
I've always wanted a Generations-style game where Mario teams up with his past 8-bit self, and I hope that rather than copystriking this video Nintendo actually takes notes from this if they see it.

and they would only be more likely to strike it if they actually planned to make a game like that
i think they would take it down because it encouriges homebrewing your switch or an emulator and then editing the game and nintendo dosent want that

For anyone wondering, you cant save a swap by running up into the wire as a pokio because if you do so you will just turn back into 2D Mario.
I remember discovering the 2D hover with my sister. I don't know if I ever told her what was happening, but I messed with her so hard by just hovering her.

Yeah, I hoped there was a "this is the end of the 2d and SIKE! BOWSER IS 2D" kind of plot twist but no. Lame
20:37 the reason it looks wrong is because Mario had a swimming animation in Mario Bros but here he's just in his jumping pose
His physics also aren't changing for the water, aside from gaining an infinite amount of normal jumps.

I wanna see you do a Super Cappy Odyssey mod (doesn't currently exist). Where there is no mario, and you only play as cappy using the control scheme that player 2 would usually use. How much of the game is beatable with JUST cappy?

Yo Fir, bring the pokio up to the last wire in bowsers kingdom, the pokio will die and Mario will go into the wire, he shouldn’t become 3d when this happens

Imagine being the bird in sand kingdom and getting swatted away by a piece of paper
25:30 I believe you could have saved a swap by walking to the wire in the pokio similar to the trick you used at the 2 wires on the shop island.
I think the 5-second timer includes captures. it just doesn't take effect wile in a capture, which is why he instantly swapped back after un-capturing the second wire.
I knew about the cappy hovering cause my younger sister was my cappy for my run

9:13 I used to not know how to talk to the sphinx in wooded so I ran across the wall falling in the deep woods several times and immediately getting out cause I was scared, (now I’m not) and when I finally did it I felt good and 12:38 you can do lost kingdom cappyless but it is hard to do deathless and easy to do with a couple deaths and I’m not telling which moons to get. If you really wanna make sure you don’t mess up and use him just let Clepto keep Cappy and after you get the moons just take back Cappy
Fun fact: in cap kingdom, after he died, I saw my own message from eleven months ago. Back then I was brandonboii 😅

I really don't get the difference between this and captureless. Like other than pick things up, interact with seats and vehicles, dive, roll, backflip, triple jump and wall jump, it's pretty much the same. Like, I know that's sounds like alot of things I just listed, but other than wall jump and dive, they are trivial at best. Like, the fact that you still have cap-bounce. . . that, to me, just blurs the line completely between this and captureless but with a model-swap.
Like when you hear the title of "2D mario" you think none of 3D marios main movesets. Cap-bounce and cap throw is like the main of main in this game tho.

I feel like moon skip could be done better using 2 player floating, along with some other things that might be able to be cut out.
While it would be boring, technically the strategy for the lowest amount of swaps would be to just swap at the start and play the game entirely as 3D Mario.
Obviously not the point, but I wanted to point it out, because in theory it fits all the criteria of the run and is the lowest amount of swaps possible xD

@@Whimsykitpeople like this buy second switches because if you accidentally connect to the internet once, like if you accidentally hit "Update Software" when starting a game you have a chance of having all accounts on your switch banned.
And not everyone can easily afford a second Switch.
He is right about the hover. I tried to jump in 2D while being player 2, and my friend, being player 1, hovered. I only did this in sand, tho
i found out about the hover when i wanted to try and capture a 2d enemy and thought the single player didnt work
Now I'm curious how many moons can be obtained in general as 2D Mario

Best way to have had the mod put "2d" mario into the cutscenes/Misc animations would have been to have Mario always have the 8-Bit mario outfit equipped

The 2D Hover is real my dad and I did a 2 Player speedrun and I did it to mess him up in the 2D sections.
I for real tested the 2d hover ability and, it’s true; crappy even shows up for no good reason, 😂
Because you can clip into the crown in ruined kingdom ( at least it looks like you did on the third hit) is it possible to do roll cancel clips and get inside the crown so you don’t have to pull out the stakes if someone could actually do this I bet it would be a time save for the any% route

As someone who plays two player I understand the hover jump because every time me and my sister are in 2-D, I feel bored, so I do the floaty jump and it kills us every time
I feel like a lot of swaps can be cut in Bowser Kingdom by just floating across (and ignoring the Whomp).
OK nevermind, that's probably what CRCs are, although the Whomp should still be skippable.
I think the bigger problem is the islands get higher and higher :(
