    After getting sick and taking antibiotics, I was basically feeling like I was having allergic reactions to everything! But my IgE tests showed that I didn't have any allergies, and doctors couldn't explain what was wrong with me, and they definitely didn't advocate for me. They said that MCAS was unlikely when I finally arrived at someone who knew about its relevancy. Luckily I found out about SIBO, and it took me a few years and 4 rounds of treatment to get to a livable state, but I wish this knowledge was more widely available. Even when searching for SIBO information, no one talks about the allergy-like symptoms anywhere! It really makes you feel like you're just grasping at straws and scared to eat anything. Thanks for sharing your story with all of us!

      Ugh I am so sorry to hear of your struggles and I really wish my doctors had gotten the MCAS and SIBO connection more quickly. I had the MCAS symptoms so badly in the GI tract and I kept asking my doctors "is this a pattern that means anything to you." I also told them about food poisoning but no one made the connection. Oh well. They can't know everything and that's why we have to be our own best advocates!! So happy to hear you got to a livable state 🙂❤️

      @@BartonellaBabe All of them! I'm curious about the status of your nerve pain + GI symptoms + anything else and how they have evolved. PS I don't have bartonella but I have been disabled by Long Covid for the last 19+ months now and am interested in persistent pathogens more broadly so I'm a big fan of your work!!

    • @BartonellaBabe
      @BartonellaBabe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elianauku yes there is a lot of overlap in symptoms and probably big picture disease process in long COVID and bartonellosis. I am sorry to hear that you're dealing with that. I would make a video on that but I am not sure that many would watch it??? I do have a video about how my symptoms progressed over time and that should give you a good idea in addition to the following: I am dealing with SIFO and can only tolerate 6 foods and have been dealing with fatigue and brain fog after eating. I still can't be on my feet for more than 15 minutes in an entire day. My mom makes and brings me all of my meals and water. So I can edit my videos, be on my devices a fair bit, shower, change my clothes, do my makeup and hair a bit, and walk to the car and into the doctor's office and back but my mom drives, and sit at the table and do a jigsaw puzzle and that's about it!

      @@BartonellaBabe thank you :) I’m glad to hear you are able to read/research/communicate with the outside world albeit virtually. My symptoms are mostly above the neck (brain fog, 24/7 migraine-like headache, hyperacusis, photophobia & more) so any sort of long-form reading or critical thinking really is out of the question. Even speaking is quite hard. I can however go on 20-minute walks each day and move freely around the house. I’m fascinated by how chronic infections can disable people in such different ways.

    I'm not a doctor, but I have been suffering from what is presumably a bartonella infection for a decade. I got it from adopting a cat. I was tested for lyme and babesia and was negative, but my bartonella by serology is negative too. ( PCR tests at galaxy labs and igenex are too expensive and given their sensitivity, mostly useless).
    My symptoms: anxiety, depression, hallucinations, fatigue, OCD, autism, cognitive difficulties, internal vibrations, Tourette' s syndrome - all pointing strongly to a bartonella infection. I have no migratory joint pain associated with lyme and no air hunger associated with babesia and never had a tick bite ever in my life. I've been treating with rifampin and azithromycin for 10 months now and improving slowly. However, I can't work mostly due to my autism and tourrete's syndrome and am being taken care of by my parents. The 10 months of rifampin and azithromyxin have helped, but it feels like I might require another year of treatment and that seems too long. I have no MCAS or any other problems taking antibiotics, but I'm just tired of these gut wrenching abx. I am on a Candida diet, with both nystatin and other antifungal to keep it down. And I know tuberculosis patients can be on abx therapy for years, up to 3 years in severe cases (if they survive for that long), but tuberculosis is a deadly disease, while lyme, bartonella, babesia, mycoplasma and chlamydia generally aren't (they just become chronic disabilities).
    My question is, since I probably have what is otherwise known as autoimmune encephalitis triggered by a bartonella infection that is located within the brain, can IV IG be a substitute for chronic antibiotic use? And if it can help, why aren't you trying immunoglobulin therapy then? Your past video said you can't take antibiotics due to MCAS, can IV IG be a substitute then, both for me and you? I assume IV IG are probably easier to tolerate than antibiotics. The problem may be that no insurance is going to pay for it and out of pocket it is an expensive treatment (more so than abx). What do your doctors say about IV IG?

    • @BartonellaBabe
      @BartonellaBabe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be a question for a doctor but I can give you what I think I know as a patient. Treating Bartonella, if that is indeed what you have, *usually* requires both immune modulating therapy and antibiotics. Some people need strong immune modulation, while others need minimal immune modulation. Some need strong antibiotics, while others can take clarithromycin and allicin with good results. Everyone is different. IVIG can be very hard for some to tolerate and is not indicated for every MCAS patient. None of my 8 practitioners have recommended it to me. Both of my BLMDs do IVIG for some their patients or at least recommend it. Some doctors know how to get this covered, like if one has evidence of small fiber neuropathy. I have been on exosomes therapy and that has been a godsend for my pain. However, this alone will never get me to full health. For me, the infection has to and will be addressed. I am sorry to hear of all of your symptoms and I hope you have a good practitioner to work with
