    I want to again give a big thank you to Dr. Mark Pimentel for his time and everyone at the MAST program at Cedars-Sinai for their tireless, methodical, and unparalleled work to give patients a better quality of life. I credit their research for quite literally saving my life. Let me know what info from this interview you found most interesting or helpful in the comments below!

      Hello there, i hope you're well. just wanted to ask what you know about copper dis-regulation or copper deficiency, i read it might play a huge role on leaky gut, candida, viruses, and different bacteria in the body. molybdenum and zinc also detoxing copper from the body.

      I learnt a lot - thank you. I especially valued the clarification that there can be mixed symptoms across SIBO subtypes on a graduating range. Also that rifaximin may benefit rather than annihilate the gut microbiome.

      @BartonellaBabe Hi Jake, I hope you see this! I also had a lot of bladder pain with H2S sibo, and very limited sulfur food in my diet as it would cause pain, and it was TOTALLY relieved with lemongrass! Yes really, I’m working with an amazing practitioner who has an MSc in nutrition and has treated hundreds of patients, and he told me to take it for my bladder pain (which was hell) I get organic powdered lemongrass and take one big teaspoon (in sauces/drinks/smoothies) morning and evening and it totally took the pain away. We are working on other stuff on a deeper level now, but I wanted to tell anyone who is in pain to try it as it WORKS. I also took UVA Ursi at first as I read about it here, and that helped but only halved the pain, lemongrass got it down to nothing.

    Is there a benefit from having something distressing like SIBO? I think so. It is how much you learn about biology and your body from researching the disease. Before I started trying to learn about what was going on, because doctors and others could not or would not help, I was completely ignorant about the body. I have learnt much and am still learning all the time. I even find the subject fascinating-who would have thought it is all so complicated? In that respect I found this talk fascinating. Hugely informative. I can console myself a bit for having suffered for forty years by the fact that I am learning so much. I was much impressed by Doctor Pimentel who came across as committed and sincere and not harbouring an inflated ego or sense of his own importance. That IMO is not a given among doctors. Thanks to Bartonella Babe for setting this up and thanks to Doctor Pimentel who is working hard to alleviate the suffering of millions!

      Ever thought about you also simply having an anxiety/stress disorder sustaining this endless loop? Anxiety seems to be a very common denominator in all these chronically ill people, and the nervous system is known to affect immune function (INCLUDING MAST CELLS!!! via corticotrophin releasing hormone), digestive capacity, and much much more. Even if you actually have chronic infections, these might lead to symptoms in susceptible people which trigger health OCD/anxiety and an everlasting hypersympathetic state, disabling any attempts of your body to heal and overcome tisue damage, fight off the pathogens, etc. There are plenty of people online who claimed to have MCAS or related conditions, who swear that they got completely healed once they started to focus on this hypervigilant state and calmed their nervous system down.

    Had what my dentist thought was a tooth abscess (really a sinus infection) & prescribed me clindamycin. She didn’t tell me the risk of getting c diff. Well I got it. Tested positive for cytotoxin & did a 10 day course of Dificid. Did another test bc my loose stool symptom didn’t get better but I tested negative for c diff, shigella, different E. coli bacteria, campylobacter, etc, didn’t see klebsiella being tested though. I also didn’t have stomach cramps, bloody stool, having to go 10 times a day like c diff has, just loose stool that wasn’t formed. Took pepto & it took a long time for the stool to turn a dark color so my motility was slow. I was diagnosed last week with PI IBS/SIBO & I’m taking xifaxan, am on day 6 out of 14. Still no change & still have the loose stool.
    I’m also paralyzed with a spinal cord injury (happened 24 years ago) and can’t tell when I have to go so it’s been hell these last few months. The paralysis could also account for the slow gut motility but it’s never been a problem before taking clindamycin.
    Dr. Pimentel, have you ever treated a patient with a spinal cord injury/paralysis who has SIBO? Just curious if there’s any literature; I can’t find anything so far.

Took those, didn’t go for 5 days. Thought I had a blockage! But once I finally went, it was formed. I sobbed with joy and relief. Had to take Cipro at the beginning of this month for a UTI and my stool was loose again. So exciting! What great interview!
    Jake, on the topic of the bidirectional relationship: in my n=1 experience with both SIBO (methane and hydrogen) and systemic mastocytosis, if I avoid triggers I really don't have a lot of motility issues. But if I'm exposed to a trigger, not just food but for instance smoke in the air, my whole GI tract stops and I have regurgitation, no peristalsis, constipation. And then a couple days later everything can be just fine again.
    On the other hand, like you, I've had signifacant-but-modest improvements in my hypersensitivities after SIBO treatment.

Could you ask him next time to comment on the abx he suggests for methane and talk about the safety of those also please? Also since the new research hes mentioned the low fermentation diet for methane and said no gums. Hi there! I just wanted to check in about your current protocol and how you're doing. I'm currently dealing with EXTREME food intolerances, MCAS, and a host of other issues due to hydrogen sulfide SIBO (tested negative on breath test but doctors highly suspect this is it). Thinking about what treatments I could do and how to optimize treatment with a prokinetic like Motegrity since I need something strong probably. I didn't know the best way to reach you (Reddit was considered haha) but I thought to ask here and see! Thank you so much in advance. Hope you're doing better or at least managing and still learning!! Sending love

    Hi, thanks for bringing informative videos on the topic to us all. I know u have done extensive research on this and wanted to take ur opinion on this - i had been given bartonella diagnosis based on antibody titers from galaxy labs some years back. Symptoms mainly anxiety, random fatigue, some numbing on hands etc. but lately i did blood work and find low levels of both CRP and sedimentation rate (earlier used to be high). Also dod cytokine panel with dr bruce patterson and everthing except IL6 was normal. So could i still have bartonella? Its one of those thing that remains as a doubt though i doubt how i cud have an infection with all inflammatory markers being normal. Any insight from ur research would help.

  • @dprice81
    @dprice81 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting....I've always assumed I had methane cause I've always had the C side of things. But I am definitely someone who is sensitive to sulfur. So I was suprised to hear that you were both sulfur sensitive and had hydrogen sulfide. Were you on D side, C side of mixed? And then even odder that you had methane and then hydrogen sulfide after.
    In my story, there was only the hydrogen test a few years ago. I tested negative. The doc was willing to give me rifaximin anyways to try it and did not do a thing. I asked for fluconazole because I had heard of sifo. He wouldn't rx but I asked my primary care and she decided she would try it. The fluconazole wiped out my symptoms for two years. I cooked some bad mushrooms and my symptoms came back. I tried fluconazole again and it didn't work
    Not sure what to do now. I'm gonna try taking higher doses of molybdenum, considering manganese, and ornithine I realize some of my health issues is that my protein intake/digestion. Are you able to consume a higher sulfur/protein diet now?

    Sounds like you are Biotin deficient. Propynol CoA Carboxylase is a key enzyme in the transsulfuration pathway and it requires Biotin. Acetyl CoA Carboxylase is a key enzyme in Fatty Acid Oxidation. It requires Biotin as well and can explain your fat intolerance. Biotin deficiency also manifests itself in poor hair and nail health. Take your Biotin the first thing in the morning, without taking any food. Biotin competes with Patothenic Acid, Iodine and Alpha Lipoic Acid for the Sodium Dependent Mutlivitamin Transporter (SMVT).
