For me it's like this: Tamers still wins for me. Yes, it is still a kid's show, but if I wanted to watch a full-on mature property I would not come to Digimon in the first place. Why it wins for me is that it just feels purposefully written in a way very few Digimon series do. The characters all have their roles and arcs which don't just boil down for the audience to go through a fighting game selection screen type of scenario when picking their favorites, but instead plays with the idea of "if Digimon were real, what it would be like? ...and let's not just think of the cool stuff". Takato, Henry, Rika and even Impmon aren't just the archetypical ideas of the goggle-head, the straight guy and the tsundere, but are all implemented into the world the series is setting up neatly that makes them feel relatable but also explores different perspectives in the world they are placed in. A: Tamers, Survive B: Adventure, Kizuna C: 02, Frontier, Ghost Game, Data Squad, Xros Wars D: Tri F: Adventure 2020 Haven't watched enough to have an opinion on: Appmon
I'd never put tamers in the same tier as ghost game, and no, it's not because I think it's "dark" or "adult", it's just because it's a way better series in the writting department overall for several reasons, first of all, Tamers had a story to tell, every character changed on a larger or smaller degree, the main character evolved from a reactive to an active protagonist thanks to his experience, while hiro was a blank state from start to end, same with ruki, she was just the girls of the group, while Ruki imo is still quite unique as a female character, and her arc trying to understand her mother and family while still being herself is really good. In ghost game only kiyoshiro had something to offer, and with that I mean at least he had a personality. In tamers you had several factions dealing with different stuff, at the beginning there was hypnos, an organization trying to control and hide the existence of digimons, to then later switch sides and help the kids in their journey in the digital world and joining with the Wild Bunch, who were the programmers who created the digital world. Then you have the 4 holy beast who wanted culumon to save their world, etc, and then you have impmon who had an entire character arc and then his redemption, and what do you have in ghost game? espimon? an episodic series with a bad finale? Not to mention the GRB thing is just a lazy version of the D Reaper. to clarify, I didn't hate ghost game, I watched the whole thing and I complained way less than with adventure 2020, but the series didn't have much to offer, I'd even put the first 6 seasons (except fromtier) over ghost game any day, because all of those series had something to tell. I can't speak about appmon, I tried to watch it recently but ended up dropping it, I simply couldn't with the type of humor the series had, it was clearly meant for a younger audience compared to the other digimon seasons that were already aimed for kids. The catchphrases, repetitive jokes, I simply couldn't keep watching it because of that, the moment espimon appeared in ghost game with his "fake hero" jokes that reminded me the reason why I stopped watching appmon lol. the moment I dropped the series was right after astra's fart music episode, that was the moment I said "this isn't for me".
Underated? Everyone I saw loves it and I always ask the question why? It was a bad show with horrendous animation quality by even digimon standarts. A dumb angry gary stu protag that never changes. A gimmick so dumb that makes you wonder why they need Digimon, when they have a powerful one-punch man. Boring female character that loses her first fight, but nobody brings it up like they do with Izumi. Lame villains and one of the worst endings, that basically teaches teenagers that it's OK to never mature into adult that knows when things needs to be let go, continue to go into dangengerous adventures and that a real man solves things with violence. God I hate that show, and I don't understand why so many people put it in high regards. Plus not to mention its fans, that will rip your thoat out if you say anything bad about it (just like its main character, easy to piss off!)

About "A gimmick so dumb that makes you wonder why they need Digimon". There's an entire episde showing why masaru working alone without agumon doesn't work, the one against garurumon black. " A dumb angry gary stu protag that never changes." being a character who never changes is not a problem if the mc is fun and charismatic, josuke from jojo part 4 is an excelent example of that, Masaru is fun and his dynamic with agumon is amazing. I'll give you that about the animation, it was so inconsistent sometimes, and about Masaru going to the digital world and live his dream after the finale, that's fair lol, he saved the world, and it made sense for the type of character he is.

That one Garurumon episode still does not change the fact that some 14 year old teenager knocks down super powerful digimon, stop Royal Knight's sword with a hand, and in Hunters punch down THREE VenomVamdemon in a row! You know, the thing that caused massive trouble for Adventure kids? This is a Digimon show, not Masaru show! And Masaru wasn't a fun or charismatic character. I was hoping that Eldoradimon arc would develop his character somehow, with how Digimon loved Masaru because they saw him the same as you did, but his hot-temper and desire to go all out ended up killing everyone. It would make for a good self reflection moment, but no. He is still angry violent kid by the end of the series.

Digimon was always a kid’s show. The Tamers anime will always be the best Digimon ever had to offer so far and is perhaps the reason why I still remember Digimon today as an adult even. And could never forget the tale of Impmon. Instead of trying to make adventure tri and kizuna for adults maybe the creators should make one for Tamers.
S for Appmon and Savers. These are best digimon series. I may be subjective, but people are wrong for hating with passion both Appmon and Savers. Different, yes, underrated, yes, better than overrated Tamers and Adventure, big YES. A for Ghost Game (it could be in S, but ending ruined everything), Frontier (in other half, Frontier became Takuya and Kouji's show). B for Tamers (heavily overrated, never really liked them), Adventure (again, overrated due to nostalgia). C for 02. I never like Adventue's continuation. And, 02, it felt like they want so much they deliver so little. The biggest disappointment for me was Demon. Having another Vamdemon's version for final villain was big letdown. D for Digimon Tri, because it was almost Meiko's show. And, they repeated with Kizuna being Menoa's movie and it will probably happen with 02 Beginning with Rui. E for Xros wars. For me, Xros wars would be better if they use only xros digimon and not regular digimon and digimon from previous seasons. Both endings (54th and 79th) are mediocre. But, if you haven't read XROS WARS MANGA, YOU MUST READ IT. Manga is so much better than anime. If they make Xros wars anime based on Xros wars manga, Xros wars would be in S Tier. Xros wars disgraced many digimon, including Neptunemon, Lucemon, Huanglongmon, Marsmon. F for Taichi's show.
I think Savers is super underrated. It has a lot of monster of the week stuff, but then a full “human vs Digimon genocide” plot line, it has really cool ideas and goes cool places. The Masaru punching Digimon stuff is the worst part about it. I won’t ever like that aspect of the show, I find it too goofy and annoying, and when he comes back for Xros Wars and kills VenomMyotismons and MaloMyotismons with punches, it’s very cringey 😬 he’s some sort of Superman in this world with no explanation - I may be forgetting something, if that’s the case then my bad.
Interesting side note: the US censoring of Bombernanimon where they turned him into a giant orange that threw citrus bombs at everyone lives rent-free in my head. So goofy. Lmao😅
I liked how almost every antagonist here isn’t inherently evil. Merukimon and the others ended up like that because Kurata betrayed them (Kurata ended up being like that because he was afraid of Digimon). The Royal Knights and Yggdrasil became the antagonists due to Kurata. You can maybe put Kurata in the truly evil section but the plot in Digimon Savers does highlight how hate is caused by misunderstanding.

If you're talking about me, I'm a boy. I like Tamers but I can't just put everything in S. It's cool that we gave different opinions though. You're totally valid for thinking Tamers is A tier. Opinions are subjective and that's cool.
I've only seen Tamers, Ghost Game, and Tri so far. I pretty much agree with your placement. I don't exactly agree with you on Kizuna as I do think it did a better job of what they were trying to do with Maki from Tri and that ending was very sad. I would probably put it in B because it's solid, but doesn't exactly stand out among the shows. I find Tamers to be really good up until the D Reaper arc where I just felt it was getting too dark and not so fun anymore. For those complaining about Tri being the pity Meiko show in the later movies a lot of the D Reaper arc becomes the pity Juri show and is way more annoying IMO. Ghost Game is good if you take it episode by episode and don't get hyped up about the main plot. They were really creative with some episodes in this show and I loved it when it subverted my expectations and got under my skin at times. Tri is good for the first half and goes off the deep end in the second half. I think the biggest problem with it though is that it stretches out a one movie plot over 6 movies and meanders a lot. It's basically a retread of Hurricane touchdown with an different Digimon. Honestly the only thing I think I can overlook that is objectively egregious about Tri is the second movie being 75% filler because I honestly had fun with the 2 escapades they went on in that movie even if there was no plot progression till the end of that movie. I kind of like Miecoomon and feel bad for her tragic situation, but like the rest of the Digimon in Tri she's one note and when she goes berserk she's basically just another monster they have to put down. I'd direct people to the cameo in episode 32 and episode 50 of Ghost Game for better takes on Meicoomon and Meicrackmon. I'm kind of hoping she shows up a couple more times in future shows because her design is pretty cool, albeit a bit derivative of Gatomon and Renamon. Hopefully they'll introduce her light side evolutions too since I think her mega was teased in 2020 as one of the Holy Digimon.

@NEXIMON It could be so high because I grew up with it, it's the first Digimon season I'd ever seen and the most nostalgic show of my childhood. My favorite Digimon are Shoutmon and Cutemon, especially Shoutmon. Also, Taiki was the first character in any tv show I'd seen at the time, that I related to. I also believe Xros Wars to be one of the most grown-up kid shows, aimed at ages 10-15. At age 10, I almost felt too young for it, but now I feel like that's one of the selling points. It is different, which is probably why I didn't like the previous seasons, which I saw afterward. They just didn't feel like Xros Wars and that's what I felt Digimon was at the time. I've grown to like them a lot more as I got older, but maybe because I didn't grow up with them, that's why they didn't stick for me. I love the newer seasons much more, but that could be because I'm much younger than most of the people I talk to and didn't grow up with the same seasons they did.
First let me say I'm very much in the camp of people who overhype Tamers due in large part to nostalgia. Still, to me at least it strikes the perfect balance of having a well rounded cast and being dark in a tasteful way. Also Guilmon (Megidramon especially) is my favourite Digimon plus Beelzemon going Blast Mode for the first time is peak fiction. Ghost Game I love for how weird and dark it got but at the same time I almost think it went too hard for a children's show at times. Plus some episodes I really wish they'd cut to do a bigger, more satisfying conclusion (looking at you, Frozomon). Gammamon is baby though so it mostly evens out. Appmon is definite S tier. Way underrated and I hope Bandai starts giving it some more love soon. Savers I like a lot but not nearly as much as Appmon, Tamers or Ghost Game. Masaru's a certified badass but how the hell is he meant to be 14? Agumon's Japanese voice bugged the hell out of me which no other main Digimon before or since has. The way the Bio-hybrids repeatedly jobbed to the Megas was also kinda lame. Plus separating all the other partners at the end felt unnecessary, especially Ikuto and Falcomon who were practically brothers. Adventure: I'm actually pretty lenient towards but just because I view it as a fan service season even if the story wasn't great it was still a lot of fun to me at least. Huge agree with Frontier being the worst season. Even aside from how poorly they treat Izumi, to me the worst sin of any Digimon season is making only the two main boys actually matter and Frontier went above and beyond when it comes to making everyone else obsolete which especially bites because Koji in particular is worst boy in my opinion.
Is it wrong that by the end of Frontier I genuinely wanted Lucemon to win? His worldview might be seriously twisted but I believe him when he says that he does what he does out of love for all beings. And the way he smacked the digi out of Kaiser Greymon and Magna Garurumon I can't deny was the most enjoyable part of the entire show.
Tamers isn’t overhyped. Tamers really IS that good. Out of its whole run only one episode served no purpose to the story. The theme of growing up and letting go of one’s childhood is poignant and the emotional impact is there. There’s a reason Tamers is primarily considered the best. Applimon is overhyped, you have to get through some very grating and childish episodes just to get to the story. And the mix of 2d and cgi animation is jarring.

@NEXIMON It could be so high because I grew up with it, it's the first Digimon season I'd ever seen and the most nostalgic show of my childhood. My favorite Digimon are Shoutmon and Cutemon, especially Shoutmon. Also, Taiki was the first character in any tv show I'd seen at the time, that I related to. I also believe Xros Wars to be one of the most grown-up kid shows, aimed at ages 10-15. At age 10, I almost felt too young for it, but now I feel like that's one of the selling points.
It is different, which is probably why I didn't like the previous seasons, which I saw afterward. They just didn't feel like Xros Wars and that's what I felt Digimon was at the time. I've grown to like them a lot more as I got older, but maybe because I didn't grow up with them, that's why they didn't stick for me. I love the newer seasons much more, but that could be because I'm much younger than most of the people I talk to and didn't grow up with the same seasons they did.

First let me say I'm very much in the camp of people who overhype Tamers due in large part to nostalgia. Still, to me at least it strikes the perfect balance of having a well rounded cast and being dark in a tasteful way. Also Guilmon (Megidramon especially) is my favourite Digimon plus Beelzemon going Blast Mode for the first time is peak fiction.
Ghost Game I love for how weird and dark it got but at the same time I almost think it went too hard for a children's show at times. Plus some episodes I really wish they'd cut to do a bigger, more satisfying conclusion (looking at you, Frozomon). Gammamon is baby though so it mostly evens out.
Appmon is definite S tier. Way underrated and I hope Bandai starts giving it some more love soon.
Savers I like a lot but not nearly as much as Appmon, Tamers or Ghost Game. Masaru's a certified badass but how the hell is he meant to be 14? Agumon's Japanese voice bugged the hell out of me which no other main Digimon before or since has. The way the Bio-hybrids repeatedly jobbed to the Megas was also kinda lame. Plus separating all the other partners at the end felt unnecessary, especially Ikuto and Falcomon who were practically brothers.
Adventure: I'm actually pretty lenient towards but just because I view it as a fan service season even if the story wasn't great it was still a lot of fun to me at least.
Huge agree with Frontier being the worst season. Even aside from how poorly they treat Izumi, to me the worst sin of any Digimon season is making only the two main boys actually matter and Frontier went above and beyond when it comes to making everyone else obsolete which especially bites because Koji in particular is worst boy in my opinion.
Is it wrong that by the end of Frontier I genuinely wanted Lucemon to win? His worldview might be seriously twisted but I believe him when he says that he does what he does out of love for all beings. And the way he smacked the digi out of Kaiser Greymon and Magna Garurumon I can't deny was the most enjoyable part of the entire show.
Tamers isn’t overhyped. Tamers really IS that good. Out of its whole run only one episode served no purpose to the story. The theme of growing up and letting go of one’s childhood is poignant and the emotional impact is there. There’s a reason Tamers is primarily considered the best. Applimon is overhyped, you have to get through some very grating and childish episodes just to get to the story. And the mix of 2d and cgi animation is jarring.
