    LYRICS:
    On the fourth of July,
    Eighteen hundred and six,
We set sail from the sweet cove of Cork
We were sailing away with a cargo of bricks
For the Grand City Hall in New York
    'Twas a wonderful craft
She was rigged fore and aft
And oh, how the wild wind drove her
    She stood several blasts
    She had twenty-seven masts
And they called her The Irish Rover
We had one million bags of the best Sligo Rags
We had two million barrels of stone
We had three million sides of old blind horses hides
We had four million barrels of bones
    We had five million hogs
    Six million dogs
    Seven million barrels of porter
We had eight million bails of old nanny goats' tails
In the hold of The Irish Rover
    There was ol' Mickey Coote
Who played hard on his flute
When the ladies lined up for a set
    He was tootin' with skill
    For each sparkling quadrille
Though the dancers were fluther'd and bet
    With his smart witty talk
He was cock of the walk
And he rolled the dames under and over
They all knew at a glance
When he took up his stance
That he sailed in The Irish Rover
    There was Barney McGee
From the banks of the Lee
There was Hogan from County Tyrone
    There was Johnny McGurk
Who was scared stiff of work
And a man from Westmeath called Malone
    There was Slugger O'Toole
Who was drunk as a rule
And fighting Bill Treacy from Dover
    And your man, Mick MacCann
From the banks of the Bann
Was the skipper on The Irish Rover
For the sailor it's always a bother in life
It's so lonesome by night and by day
That he longs for the shore
    And a charming young whore
Who will melt all his troubles away
Oh, the noise and the rout
    Swillin' poitin and stout
For him soon the torment's over
Of the love of a maid, he is never afraid
That old salt from The Irish Rover
    We had sailed seven years
    When the measles broke out
And the ship lost its way in the fog
And that whale of a crew
    Was reduced down to two
Just myself and the Captain's old dog
Then the ship struck a rock
    Oh Lord, what a shock
The bulkhead was turned right over
    Turned nine times around
And the poor old dog was drowned
And the last of The Irish Rover
(also, petition for Colm to start adding closed captions to his videos)

@@peg9773: Unusually for Colm, I don't think he was quite up to scratch on the sound engineering, I think the flute needed to be just a shade more piano and the vocals just a shade more forte. Even despite that, I understood enough to enjoy a great performance of a classic silly song.

I love Irish accents. When Irish people speak it sounds like waves crashing on a shingle beach at low tide

    • @millerjohn619
      @millerjohn619 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I've had the pleasure to visit Ireland. I got to see the sites and speak to the people. It was lovely!
They were as charmed by my "American accent" as I was by theirs. I had to explain that my American accent was probably somewhat unique. I was born in Michigan. But I joined the U.S. military, so I served all over the country, as well as overseas. I happened to be serving in London at the time I visited Ireland.
Living all over like that made me pick up slang terms from all over the United States. Though I still retain my Michigan/Canadian "accent."
They tried their best to explain the different accents in Ireland to me, as well. I did notice very slight differences in accents in the different cities I visited.
But yes, I agree. If I could choose to have a different accent, as well as the cultural knowledge to back it up, I would choose an Irish accent!

@@millerjohn619 I'm American but have a lot of family from Ireland about both Great grandparents on my mothers side came from Ireland and my Grandpa had brothers who were born there and came over as babies. I've always been fascinated by Irish accents and culture, one day Ill go over there try to meet distant relatives and visit Dublin as they live a few towns away.
My mom was born and raised in New Jersey and I was born and raised in Massachusetts. So I grew up with the Bostonian/Jersey accent with a hint of the Irish side of those accents. Its fun talking to people around the country and online around the world and how I cant pronounce "r" for alot of words.

I know you have a to do list of a million songs but could you add One More Pull on there 👀 it’s one of my favorite songs of all time, I had the version from the Longest Johns on repeat for weeks and I know if you did it I wouldn’t listen to anything else for months
