Since around 2017, I've stuck to the rule of "physical or piracy." The only reason why I've stuck with consoles is that they still get physical games. When that stops, I'm getting a desktop and sailing the seven seas until the day I die.
Exclusives are shit! If you need exclusives to justify a console you are coping HARD. Why would you want a game thats not available to everyone? Are you actually infested by the corporate fanboy virus??? Next you are gonna tell ppl repairability is bad and people should just buy new stuff when old shit breaks
Something people don't think about: Microsoft and Sony arent game companies, they're tech companies that just happen to get into games. Nintendo is a game company, and has been since they started.
Yup, and that’s also why Xbox still exists. Because Microsoft is a much more profitable tech company than Sony. Sony cannot kill Xbox, when it’s run by a multi billion dollar tech company.
@@SpliffyHuskyet Xbox cannot make something exclusive for long enough to keep people solely on their console. The fact that the reason I had to upgrade from a One S to a Series X was ported over to PS5 and Switch as well was the nail in the coffin.
@@SpliffyHuskyeah bud doesn’t mean the gonna keep developing consoles that aren’t selling I can’t see them developing another one the used to make cell phones too but they stoped for a reason
Consoles now are basically PCs that are less expensive and you don't have to build. The PS5 Pro is making people think, "Well, this is so expensive, I might as well get a PC."
Don't get me wrong, but I spend all day in front of the PC. After a bad day, and most days in front of the PC are bad, I want to put my butt on the couch, get a good distance from the screen, put the game on the device and have fun, I don't want to worry about settings, the amount of RAM, the minimum requirements, etc.
I'm gonna try and be reasonable when I disagree, but in all honesty, I do not feel like Nintendo is publishing more great games. Maybe the games that they do produce have a certain guarantee of quality but they're infrequently released and frequently re-released. This is also true of Rockstar games and I think the fan behavior is pretty similar.
@@zachweyrauch2988 wrong assestment, they release quality games consistenly, its just that all of them are very varied so maybe ur type of games are not as often. Rereleases are not that more common than sony was doing so idk why that is even a point. Nothing bad with them either.
@@samogonbrother I definitely think Nintendo does in fact rerelease more often than Sony (or at the very least, has been rereleasing old titles for a lot longer). That being said I do think Nintendo *is* releasing a somewhat decent stream of new great games; they might just not be as creative as the best Nintendo games.
Yea except you have to mention that Nintendo has way stronger _popular_ IPs like freaking zelda and mario, Halo's IP is already dead and what else does Microsoft have that compares? Microsoft even sells their games on Steam now, _including Psychonauts 2 and Halo Infinite._ It's about their console being so dead that it won't get sales even if they put exclusives on it. They own Minecraft, yet basically every Minecraft player uses PC, not Xbox. Microsoft can pidgeonhold most Steam players to Windows, so they don't even have any point to keeping Xbox around other than for keeping up an image. They can just sell PCs and windows instead of Xbox.
We need to stop saying that we're paying for "experiences." We're paying for GAMES. I can hold a game in my hands. I can't hold an "experience" in my hands. These companies want us to think of games as "experiences" (cf. Ubisoft on "not owning games"). Let's not let them.
Every game company's (seemingly besides Nintendo) wet dream is a subscription model where you just pay forever, guaranteeing them an infinite and ever-growing revenue stream

You think so, but if it happened, improvement is not guaranteed. These bankrupt corporations would be bought out by even bigger corporations that could very well release even worse games than right now. Imagine every year is a release of a few major games and ever one of them turns out like Concord, and we don't get PC releases anymore. Basically, no industry to speak of and corporations hold all the cards. Now that's gaming hell...
That Phill Spencer corporate speech at 8:40 is total BS. Nintendo faced the same or worst situation with the WiiU. It was a disaster. And they don’t have a multi billion dollar company like Microsoft at their back. And look at them now. They also didn’t have player base with a huge digital library.
Japan is facing a financial crisis, if nintendo was based anywhere else, say the US they'd be doing better. This isn't to say that the US economy is great or even good, but it's much better than Japan's.
Something that I think signifigantly contributed to Nintendos comeback after the Wii U disaster was because they had a console that makes sense to own alongside everything else. You aren't likely to buy an Xbox Series if you have a PS5, since the only real difference is exclusives. You are likely to buy a switch since it's a handheld, and can be used in scenarios that you couldn't use a PS5, or Xbox Series, or even a PC in. As a PC gamer since 2018, the only current gen console I own is the switch as it actually offers something different to what I already have.
As a PC and Switch user it’s such a shame seeing Sony And Microsoft stagger so much this generation. The whole point about a company’s “console” is to do their damn best to sell you on buying it over buying any other video game machine. It seems both companies have stopped caring about this with Microsoft basically admitting defeat and in turn Sony getting cocky because of that.
Same. I 100% agree. I only bought a PS4 at launch because of hype and Destiny, and I only got a Switch because my wife wanted to play Animal crossing. The whole gaming industry is pretty sad atm because too many people are money grubbing and there isn't the balance between greed and passion that there used to be. The new Wukong game is honestly the closest we've gotten to a Shadow of the Colossus in a long time and you can just as easily play it on PC. PC Gaming or retro gaming is all that's really left as a whole package.
@@Godspeedhero0 I actually bought myself a PS4 recently to go back and play the old exclusives aswell as getting myself a PS2 and SNES. Retro gaming is definitely becoming more enticing when you see that in these modern times we get more cash grabs than we do genuine attempts at making games that provoke something in us whether through enticing gameplay or a compelling story. Add in to the fact that as the generations go on, consoles start to resemble mini PC’s more and more. It does feel like the future is just PC’s of varying degree or exclusivity.
to be fair, sony also just had one of the biggest flops in gaming history with concord and according to the most recent leaks that game cost aound 400 million USD. Not 100 or 200 to 250 million like other sources before said. 400 million USD spent over 4 to 8 years and burned within 2 weeks. remember concord was one of their flagship live service games they wanted to make for the playstation. the price could also be influenced by this massive flop.
My biggest problem with Sony is that they don’t really make “games” anymore. They doubled down on dialogue-riddled, cinematic experiences that you can really only play once. Like, yeah God of War 2018 was fine enough, but I have zero interest in ever playing it again. Same with Horizon. So much so, that I completely lost interest in playing their sequels. And that meant that I really had no reason to get a PS5. Meanwhile I have over 1000 hours in Elden Ring, roughly 1000 hours between Monster Hunter GU, World and Rise, 300 hours between the two Hades games, 500 hours in Guilty Gear Strive, over 500 hours in Smash Ultimate, 300 hours between BotW and TotK, and 300 hours in Baldur’s Gate 3. I learned between these two generations that I kind of just want to actually play the game, and engage with systems. I don’t really care about the “fluff” that Sony seems to be concerned with.
Nintendo won this generation with a huge margin without having to rely on fancy harware, live service or Netflix for games. Hope that they stay on top next gen.
And thats why i stopped playing games, nintendo is a terrible company and the switch is a even worse problem. Switch is maybe the worst modern console since the dreamcast, the fact that his that bad and won a console generation shows why im glad im not into games anymore

It's the first generation in the history of gaming where it's debatable even after 6 years of the current gen's existence whether it's worth making the jump from the older systems. It's the first time where the difference in quality felt simply noticable or in many cases just redundant and not mind boggling. It's the first time that you are "left behind" a whole generation but you keep getting almost every game to your system regardless, with the only major differences being background bushes being clearer in the new ones and the loading screen lasting 5 seconds instead of 15 (in contrast to cross-gen games between the 5th and 6th, the 6th and 7th and even the 7th and 8th where games coming out on both consoles either had HUGE differences or were legit different versions games entirely). That says it ALL.
The loading times are incredibly faster than previous gen you're understating it a lot. My old aaah xbox one from 2015 takes longer to start up than it does for me to turn on my series x and load into RDR2. Another game with incredibly long loading screens on the old gen (more than any rockstar game) is No Man's Sky. It used to take minutes now it takes seconds. The processing speed alone is enough for me to upgrade. EVERYTHING is faster although I bet my xbox one brand new wasn't nearly as slow as it is now. However, I still wish I had gotten a PlayStation. Xbox just sucks man. They took a fully customizable home screen and made it into a giant storepage. The moderation sucks -- although I doubt this is exclusive to Xbox. You get banned for cursing but spam, bots, and just outright creepy shit (in LFG especially, if you ever wanna feel immense disgust for some odd reason read the Fortnite and Minecraft LFGs... it's bad) it is left alone, but god forbid you curse at someone baiting you with insults that the auto moderation won't pick up on and get you banned. My friend, who has never been banned before, just got a 22 day suspension for trying to make a meme of silly mustache man his pfp. I can report a message of someone telling me to game end myself and as long as they haven't been comm banned recently, it'll be a 3 day suspension... I really don't like Xbox as a company.
@@Pegarexucorn I prefer XBOX over Playstation for similar reasons against the other company, SONY for example banned my PS Vita account under suspicion of piracy and modding or something of that sort (it's been years I don't remember exactly what) and I literally have never done anything to it, I've never touched a mod, an emulator or a pirated game in my entire life on any platform, not even once. I always buy and I always play vanilla only. They even rejected my appeal. And while I have a brother he never played with the Vita and didn't even know the password, he didn't do anything (and I checked if there was anything in the system anyway, I would have found it). I don't think either are good or consume- no, gamer-friendly, and I have had issues with XBOX too. Most egregious was me getting a temporary suspension over a 30 second clip of a Mafia 3 cutscene, the protagonist Lincoln was about to eliminate one of his targets and there was the use of the N word twice, I'm assuming XBOX picked up on the word and punished me. Which is insane, it's literally a word that's in the game, I captured the moment cause it was a cool set piece like c'mon man. But overall I do unironically prefer XBOX. Better UI, better storefront, a better system for non-gaming things (WWE, Netflix, TH-cam, media player, Microsoft Edge, it just works better), I think the Game Pass Core is the best subscription service for the console market and I think the XBOX controller > DualShock battle is not even a close one, whenever I play on Playstation I am baffled by how inferior every DualShock model feels in comparison. I'm not a huge tech nerd but from what I've seen the XBOX has been a more powerful system overall than the PS for the last 2 generations so I guess that's also a plus (to my understanding SONY prioritizes 1-2 aspects to be unmatched but neglects the rest causing them to fall slightly behind while Microsoft has all-around more even technology, they upgrade things at a steady and satisfying pace and end up having better components than the PS systems except for those 1-2 aforementioned components SONY focuses on) and even when they had less powerful consoled before that they always had better performance (especially compared to late-PS2 and PS3, performance and visuals on XBOX and XBOX 360 was always like 11 times better because of how difficult optimization and development was on the Playstation at the time). As a turbo hardcore gamer that's not really a tech nerd XBOX > PS > Nintendo is my way to go personally. Don't even get me started on Nintendo, I think they have almost all the negatives of XBOX and PS combined and amplified with barely any of the positives. If a console has no real exclusives, makes you pay to play online and costs more than 300-400$ it's a failure. This 9th generation has had no exclusives from Sony and Microsoft. It's not even about the "PC Master Race" thing. Despite some games still being poorly optimized, the options for PC gaming are endless. Steam sales are more like PSN sales these days + chance is high, that at release you get the physical console verison for 10 cheaper (like on steam), but you can sell it again. Digitally is burned money.
Steam is ruining itself too, killing custom music for no reason, making game sharing locked to one router and has a one year cool down?? , the launcher eats more resources and still has memory leak issues, dead regional prices which at least Sony has, ignoring literally ALL complaints and banning people on forums for the most micro aggression reasons while awarding horrible trolls and on and on including issues with refunds. I know you won’t mention Nintendo and I do agree that they are in their own world with excellent games, but my prediction is that they might really dominate with the next Switch. Between all the other issues with Sony and MS, if Nintendo releases a hybrid console with the power of a PS4 Pro (still good enough for today IMO) and we see more 3rd parties able to work better with their hardware, and they can sell it for $400 or less, then it’s a no brainer for the casual consumers. Switch 2 could well use some kind of a smartphone chipset and still be felt like a significant performance boost.
Steam Deck feels like the only real competition for Nintendo at this point. As long as Nintendo delivers a competent product with a good games library, they'll be fine.
@@heavylobster4339 I don’t think the Steam Deck is even competing with the Switch because the two are targeting different demographics (even if there’s some overlap) The Switch is mainly focused on people who are into casual/occasional gaming (i.e. the broader market.) The reason that games are so bland lefeless and boring today, is becasue game developers are proritising eye catching graphics, over FUN, INTERESTING STORIES and GAMEPLAY!
Not game developers, Game Investors, game devs just wanna make fun games, corporate ghouls want "their products" to make as much money as possible, so they force the devs slap on the (supposedly) prettiest coat of paint onto whatever halfbaked game they can rush out the door next. Also pls ignore anyone claiming wokness has jack or shit to do with the quality of games. Tokenisim is lame, sure, and politics absolutely influence gaming as they do everything else. But modern cooperate gaming is floundering cause devs don't have unions to fight for their right to not be worked to total burnout, not cause ~woOOokness~ forced them to make the protag a brown woman or whatever
I didn't pay much attention on ps5 theme. The theme on Nintendo Switch suck and boring. I don't understand the process of taking ingame photos but cannot utilize them as a background picture theme. The games on Sony are more incoming than what Xbox has to offer. The games are lacking somewhat. We have more games in the libraries than can count. Just take a quick tour of the past and experience in playing them. This is the reason why I don't let my old games be sold.
It's not exactly the consoles that have been disappointing, the hardware is fine, better than ever..., it's the gaming library that seems to have started to go downhill since 8th gen: fewer new successful franchises; fewer sequels of successful IPs; fewer and less interesting exclusives!
So tired of the “Nintendo doing their own thing” from Sony and Xbox fans. That certainly isn’t what you said when the Wii U catastrophe was happening but somehow now when Nintendo are crushing Sony and Xbox it doesn’t count?
They're competing INdirectly. People who just want a regular console to play modern games on won't get much out of their systems. It's been this way since the Wii. But they have their success from being the complimentary machine for PC / non fanboy gamers and pretty much the only choice for families if you aren't just handing little timmy an iPad.
I kinda understand from a technical point of view cause the Switch is semi-desynced from the other two in terms of traditional console generations. The Wii U only lasting 4 years kinda makes it hard to figure out whether you count the Switch as 8th or 9th generation when it came out in the rough exact midpoint of the two. But completely disregarding them as doing their own thing is unfair to say.
It’s called cope. These were the same people who said Nintendo needed to stop making baby games and go third party back in the day and now have to eat crow.
isn't the Wii U nintendo doing their own thing? who else released a tablet controller console thing-a-ma-jig? Doing your own thing doesn't mean your thing is always successful. It just means they'll do what they want to do and not follow trends. Since the N64, every one of their consoles was unique in the market in one way or another. Like it or not, it's their own thing.
and its just another youtuber climbing the trending train... which isn't even the reality... I'm enjoyin my ps5 like anything... may b some ppl need to touch some grass... they can't provide u stuff to eat 24/7..
@kill3rbyysight except I already do that with my pc. I have a pc setup in my entertainment room hooked to two wall mounted 65" tvs with a big couch and wireless controllers.
The customers are also to blame. They keep buying the same old crap, every year, like COD, FIFA, Madden etc Complain all year about how garbage the game is but still put down their hard earned cash for the next half arsed iteration. As a result gaming studios will get away with it because they know they can. It's a self perpetuating negative loop. On my XBox series X I play BF1 (2016), DayZ, Arma Reforger, Insurgency Sandstorm (PC ports), EA WRC (not bad but could be better), GOW5. There's nothing new to play. I refuse to pay an inflated price for Space Marine 2 a game that is apparently good but lacks content. Gen 9 has been super disappointing.
I used to be an Xbox fan, a real fanatic, but now I'm ashamed, seriously, it was like belonging to a cult. I blame Phil Spencer, the guy some still believe to be the 'savior' of the brand, who turned the Xbox into a toothless shark, turning the box into an unattractive product and made Xbox owners second-class citizens.. This led to a lack of competition and now Sony thinks it doesn't need to make any more effort. It's high time to fire Phil Spencer, it won't fix everything, but it's a great start.
The rot runs much, much deeper than Phil. It runs much deeper than the heads of both Sony and MS. And the games will continue to suck or be mid for years until that rot is washed away.
@@12ealDealOfficialI was about to say the same thing, it’s way beyond Phil, Microsoft in general has had a questionable attitude towards video games And I think at the end of the day we can all agree that we all just want to see quality games getting released, and big companies squatting on licenses forever, for no reason is part of the problem
This has been the worst generation for gaming by far. The only “next gen” game I’ve played is ER. 4 years and they still barely have anything next gen.
I think the big mistake a lot of people are making is sticking with consoles in an era where 90% of the big AAA studios are pooping out exploitative live service games intended to drain wallets first and entertain second. At their heart consoles are pretty much dedicated AAA game driven platforms these days. This is the golden age of indie games and consoles are simply not the platforms to be playing the vast majority of those games on. Consoles are built around AAA gaming and AAA gaming is in the worst shape it's been in since the late pre-NES era of Atari. Just look at the bright spots mentioned in this video for Generation 9 consoles. They are mostly either remakes or games made by independent studios like Baldur's Gate 3, Returnal and Hell Divers. Pal World is another title that comes to mind as one of the top games in the last year or two which was basically just an ascended indie game made by a small to medium sized team. If you are burnt out on AAA gaming just log onto Steam and check out the indie scene. You don't even need an amazing PC to run 90% of these games. AAA gaming may be a sick diseased beast at the moment, but the indie scene is the best it has ever been.
I think one thing to note, this is technically a model that only works on a accessible, free online platforms. Aka what Pc,mobile and ect is. Exceptions only involve things you can't experience on such. Like Splatoon is an online shooter but it's controls and experience aren't something you can easily replicate on PC with mouse and keyboard. If these companies want to do online games, they have to make it accessible and convenient or provide the best possible single player/ local player experiences.
@@hugomventura i wouldn't even say thats an exception, as you can just plug in a controller on a PC and easily recreate the same experience as console. PC's are just significantly more flexible than consoles.
@@twopoint2811 ya but that involves buying a controller separately or owning a console already. Which isn't convenient to alot of people. Like it is easy to do, just not convenient. Especially to developers, like if your developing a game it's usually to what the majority have and what they have in preference. Harder to promote a gyro focused game on PC if people assume, only can, or want to play on mouse/keyboard. Meanwhile console and controller that's comes with such is easier to account for. Like "ya let's make this type of game because everyone who'll play it is guaranteed to _____."
7:00 Um, isn't that the strategy Nintendo used to move a bunch of the Switches lmao. In any other industry; admitting openly that you effed up that bad, that you know exactly how to fix that issue and that you refuse to attempt to rectify those issues all while wearing a shit eating grin would get you fired.
This is the age of disappointment everything is disappointing. From relationships to jobs to grocery prices and everything in between. The only thing that's gotten better over the years is TH-cam. It went from just something you watched just for fun to literally replacing TV. Nothing was the same is the truest statement of all time.
@mr.b89 yup but Microsoft allows it. It's called Developer mode. It costs $20 to activate it but it's 100% worth it. You can play anything from Xbox 360 down to Atari except ps3, wii u and original xbox. th-cam.com/video/fb2xuFfbroY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7V7SDNCDraQZfYNO
@mr.b89 yea but Microsoft allows it. It's called Developer mode. It costs $20 to activate but its 100% worth it. You can play anything from Xbox 360 down to Atari except Ps3, original xbox and wii u.
For me pc gaming is the most boring. Especially with last years where optimization was so bad. I play much more on my consoles. Even if there would be no exclusive game or nor temporary exclusive game for like 2 years, i would play on console. Sitting on a couch, select the game and go. I love physical media and will buy it as long as i can. I connected my PC to TV, but it was not the same experience. In many cases you have to fiddle and investing extra time to make things work for the gamepad or because you have to use a different launcher. After that it starts with ingame settings... Nah... i just want to play the game.
I own consoles going back to the Atari 2600 and Colecovision with at least a small library for every one. I even own a Virtual Boy. The 9th generation is where I quit, though. There's just no point to buying consoles anymore (aside from Nintendo's offerings). Everything that comes out on consoles, with a few and usually time-limited exceptions, is available better and cheaper on Steam. Not only can I play the massive history of games released on PC, I now also use my PC to play my PS2 discs because my old fat PS3 (that I used for PSX and PS2 games, as well as PS3) yellow lighted, and even after being fixed, kept dying over and over again. Unfortunately, the PS3 slim doesn't do backward compatibility, so that's only good for PS3 games. I'd use my PS2 slim, but that looks like crap on an HDTV. The only good solution I have is using an emulator to run the discs on PC. If Sony gave a damn, they'd offer backward compatibility and at least give me a good reason to keep buying their consoles... but they don't. If I'm not buying for the games (which aren't there), and I'm not buying for the hardware (which is functionally useless to me), and I'd have to pay extra to be able to play online multiplayer games... what's the point? I still use my PS4 to play games I want to have on physical media... as my Xbox One gathers dust (only got it for the Rare Replay and for backward compatibility with the 360). I can't speak to your experience, but I've never had issues with getting games to work, so much so that it stopped me from playing on PC. Either a game works with my Xbox One controller or it's a keyboard and mouse game. I install a game from Steam, and it just works. Again, I can't speak to your experience... but it _sounds_ like you're talking out of your ass. Conversely, I bought DJ Hero 2 for PS3 right after it was discontinued and on discount in stores... despite being brand new console hardware, I've _never_ managed to get the dongle to connect to the turntable. I sunk hours into it... changing batteries, moving the turntable closer to the dongle, changing USB ports... nothing! So much for consoles being easier!
True. But the fact that even because after all this I chose pc says how bad console games are these days lol. I started on pc in 90s but then transitioned into consoles until recently switched back to pc. It's just better now
Just set up Xenoblade chronicles on my PC. Took me 20 minutes and now I can enjoy 100+ hours with better performance than on actual hardware. No company can take that down, its a form of preservation. I dont get your point if Im being honest.
As a pc gamer, i agree with you. Some people just want a console. Also the joystick part is so true, i own a logitech joystick and two xbox one, and some games are a pain to set up, where in a console, thats already set up.
Let's be real PC gaming is expensive as fuck if you want to play games with good graphics. You only really need a gaming PC if you want to play specific genres like strategy, building games, simulation, mmorpg games that need mouse and keyboard controls. Otherwise you don't need a gaming pc.
Consoles used to be a solid option, they were relatively cheap, plug and play and had good librarys. I actually think the constant push for graphics is gonna kill consoles, it takes too long to make games so you don't get many, if they aren't good the player is just kinda fucked and probably so is the studios. It inflates the console cost to run them to where a pc isn't even the super pricey elite gamer option anymore. The physical media thing barely matters anymore as well since many games are pretty unplayable without all the day 1 patches which require Internet and way too much time to install and even then the games are so bloated you can install like 3 before having to delete stuff, no game needs to be like 150gb+.
Waiting to get my old ps3 fixed right now currently to play my old games because I’ve become bored with the PS5 due to lack of games + the ones I’ve already beaten
I also blame reviewers that comment on how grass looks for 5 minutes. Bro this is a 20-minute review, why are you talking about grass for 5 minutes, that's 1/4 of the video. I don't care about the atoms in the grass. I wanna know about the gameplay, the skill tree, the weapons.
A few questions for Phil: 1: Why would you conclude that having good exclusive games wouldn’t help you win the console war when you just lost this generation to two companies with better exclusives? 2: Why did you spend 68.7 billion dollars buying a new studio if you don’t care about exclusive games? 3: Why do you even make consoles anymore if you admit the other two can do it better? And perhaps most importantly: 4: Why should anyone (including you) trust your theories on what would win you the console war when you helmed the company as it lost the previous two generations?
The answer is simple, Satya Nadella and the shareholders. They don't care about the brand, the legacy and all that stuff, they just want money no matter what, Phil is not the only one to blame if you have people behind trying to squeeze money out of you as much as possible.
As a person who has NO console and has been waiting literally a year BEFORE PS5 released for the PS5 PRO (since my OG PS4 RIP’d), I gotta say I’m seriously contemplating saving my money for a base level PC build, or just waiting for the PS6. Which is insane😐.
PlayStation’s version of Don Mattrick saying “We have a product for you if you don’t want to be always online, it’s called the Xbox 360” was when Jim Ryan came out and said “We believe in generations” and it took them 3 years to start making their new games not cross gen.
@@rangokfunkazuul8344 That's a weak argument. Fact is, for every Ratchet & Clank there's a GOW Ragnarök, HFW, Spider Man, TLOU II etc. - so a clear majority of exclusives that were released as cross gen titles, which obviously shows where the actual priority lies for Sony. Your few mentioned exceptions only confirm the rule.
@@sacredsecrecy9620 meh, for every God Of War, Horizon, Miles Morales and GT7 you had Demon's Souls, Ratchet, Returnal, Spider-man 2 by the end of year 2. Didnt took them 3 years to release PS5 only games. That's the topic. Of course, if you don't count the games that actually exist, it's easier to pretend there are no games
There have been a lot of excellent games in the 9th generation BUT so many of them can also be played on last gen and that’s kind of the problem. A lot of people just don’t have enough of a reason to buy a new console
You just described me. I still haven't bought a PS5 becouse there's no games i really want for it. But this year has started to change it. Now it's starting to have some games i can't play on PS4. Like Helldivers 2, Baldurs Gate (maybe), Tekken 8 and Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. Though after 4-5 years this isn't that much tbh.
@@om58499 Yeah but i like consoles better. I like having an account with friendslist and physical games. Being able to talk on PSN. Trophies. And most of all i don't have to upgrade my console all the time. I just buy a console and it works without any of the hassle.
A big problem is that Sony doesn’t make many small games anymore and has let too many IP rot in a cellar. Twisted Metal, Jak & Daxter, Killzone, InFamous, Syphon Filter, Resistance and Sly Cooper. Most of these games have gone a decade or even 15 years since we last saw a game from them.
The thing is that many previously popular franchises just don't appeal as much to gamers anymore, or at least not enough to cover the development costs which have skyrocketed. Ratchet and Clank made like 300 dollars in profit (not joking) and Spyro/Crash didn't sell that great either.
I got ps5 on launch and it's been one of my biggest regrets. The console is fantastic but the library is exhausting. There's nothing I want to play. There's nothing I want to dedicate time to. So I've hacked a 3ds and started playing shit on that. Having the time of my life.
Then you're a joke. PS5 is the only console that I've spent most of my time on, not only it has big releases every month, whether it's a third party or first party but it also has access to thousands of PS4 games which no other Playstation could do before. SSD, Dualsense adds more to an already solid experience !
I'm not really understanding the replies to this thread, it sounds like hundreds of games are still being ported or are available across PS4 and PS5 simultaneously, in that case, why not just either stick with a PS4 (if you have one) or buy a used PS4 instead; especially given the fact many games (including the upcoming Black Ops 6, for example) are still being ported to Xbox One and PS4. The last generation still isn't over yet, and many companies are still porting games to those 8th gen consoles. Better yet, why not just get a gaming PC or a Steam Deck, because not only do you gets hundreds of games that are likely ported from or with the PS4, but generations upon generations of games via emulation and backwards compatibility with games going as far back as the early 80s? I'm still struggling to understand what's the point of owning a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.
"90 percent of people, who come to a retail store every year to buy a console are already members of one existing ecosystem" - OK, but that still gives you the possibility to shift the market share by 10 percent a year!
late stage capitalism dictates that the only move a big company will make is moves that will maximize profits within the next 90 days and nothing else lmao.
Couldnt agree more. I blame the industry but also consumers who got us to this point. Over the years, companies continue to push the boundaries of what consumers would tolerate. Thus MTX, Live service, loot boxes, etc. Now, dev time takes way longer (for whatever reason), lacks polish, or are chasing new IPs that are hot garbage. The most baffling was around 2017/2018 at E3 Microsoft announced all these studio acquisitions....but WHERE ARE THE GAMES?
Thinking that GTA6 will “revolutionize” the industry is a massive stretch. It will surely be massive and technologically advanced. But if you know the current gaming industry, than you know Rockstar will surely implement live services, season passes, micro transactions, etc. I always say the same thing, but this current Rockstar is NOT the same Rockstar from the one back in the early 2010’s.
the only group of people i ever hear complain about the state of gaming are xbox and playstation players. ive got my switch OLED still buying games off my backlog still having a blast. must suck to overpay for a non portable console that you arent even happy with
Feeling that way when I bought an xbox series s bought it to play next generation 2k23 and I didn't even enjoy that game so it's just a glorified spotify box. If they would just kill off 8th generation consoles and focus strictly on 9th gen games wouldn't be as bad. At least GTA 6 dropping
It’s wild when people say “well you still have the old stuff to back and play”. Companies don’t sell the old stuff anymore. Even digitally. Unless they decide to do a sus remaster. Imagine if they Sony just removed every game before the ps4. There’s not shit you can do about it and those games are just gone if digital.
I got an Xbox 360 because it can play OG Xbox games. Because I'm done hoping that Sony will do backwards compatibility beyond PS4. It's a great two in one deal.
They don’t want people to play the old games. They will start to realize how bad the new games are in comparison to the old. So they locked them all up.
The fact of the matter is you're just best off getting a PC at this point. You get all the PlayStation exclusives, you get all the Xbox exclusives, you get all the Switch exclusives, and then you get a bunch of PC exclusives, and you can still play on a controller on a higher resolution and a higher frame rate. Consoles no longer make sense.
@@fujinshu That point is already moot and not true. Most of the physical games you buy are just keys. They're not even... owned. It's further moot when you realize that PC is the only platform that has games you can truly own on any physical media you like. And that's GOG. You can download the raw files for a game, put it on a disk, put it on a drive, put it on whatever.
Exclusives shouldn’t be the primary reason for a consoles existence. If people are realizing the flaws that 2 9th gen consoles have without a lot of exclusives , then that’s on the platform.
I don't know why it's taken as a negative that there are fewer exclusives now than ever. It makes games more accessible and your console of choice is now just a matter of preference on what ecosystem you want to be in and for your library continuation. I don't think this generation not having as many exclusives is a bad thing at all.
I think back in the day the competition drove ingenuity. Shit back in the day Sony = Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid. Xbox needed something so they made Halo. We just don't see that kind of polarity anymore.
I think it's clear that your take is coming from someone who is traditionally a console gamer who's used to seeing big exclusive games come out with each console generation. However games industry has changed drastically, development has gotten extremely expensive and each game is a massive risk for publishers. What publishers want instead is to make a game like Fortnite, Minecraft, Rocket League perhaps that generates money, instead of something that might sell a million units without any post-monetization.
Then why not make games that will be cheaper to produce? If we're hitting some kind of limit in terms of manpower or budget, doesn't it make sense to scale back a little? Maybe it's a sign that we're not quite ready to move up yet. The tech is there, everything else is not. If we pulled back a little, games would cost less to make, and would also hopefully cost less for the consumer to buy.
@@bulletslurp7355 And that’s what they want. They hope you live and breathe their own live-service game, just like how MMO players breathe WoW or FFXIV. That way, you’ll spend a lot of money on those games only instead of other things.
Great video man! Your channel is underrated currently. The topics you have on each video are intriguing and remind me of the type of stuff I’m into myself. Keep it up! 👍
I think for Xbox to get back to the 360 era of respect they have to rediscover it's identity. People want the best games. Not necessarily on the most powerful hardware. It's the memories of unboxing your brand new console and playing the games with your friends online or co op in the same room. Nobody is going to remember the 9th generation of consoles sadly.
You wanna know the first step? Change the controller design and ergonomics back to xbox one and 360 controller, the current one is the tiniest and thinnest among the three controllers and has poor quality buttons
The 360 was a fluke created by the ineptitude of Sony's PS3. Console devs had no choice but to design games primarily for 360 because it was easier to develop for, and it wasn't ridiculously expensive for consumers. It also wasn't the Wii. As a result 360 hoarded all the good third party titles. And of course Xbox actually had a decent first party lineup back then. I'd say a decline in valuable IP (specifically Halo not being as valued) and a lack of incentive for developers to make games that take advantage of the hardware are the biggest things holding XBOX back. That and how horrible their Bethesda investment turned out...
@@nunyabiddeness6544 Wasn't Elder Scrolls teased at not-E3 like 6+ years ago? Just like it seems the STALKER game has been at 4 Xbox events in a row. Such a joke.
I think one of the main problems and it’s been since the 8th gen is just how much dev time has ballooned, games that couldn’t been made in 2-3 years tops like concord, took FUCKING 8 YEARS(?!) like how can the industry even survive with times that long? Look at fucking es6, when is that even going to come out? And if they fuck something up like halo “infinite” and have to pivot? Well might as well say goodbye to that franchise you ain’t seeing it for at least 10 years. I’m not sure what the main problem is here, if it’s graphics, talent, studio mindset? But it has to be fixed.
Thank God I chose PC when I did, it'd sure hurt to not only have no games, but also have your console bricked because your country decided to invade Ukraine
With the way console pricing is going, it wouldnt be a huge surprise to me if a large amount of people start considering getting into PC gaming. A follow up to the steam deck could be enough to push people over since the UI is much easier to just hop into like a console.
Nah, console is way cheaper. Steam Deck is not comparable with PS5 (much faster, cleaner and smoother UI). You not have to buy the Pro version. Keep in mind you can sell and trade your physicall games. So it is even cheaper (+ps plus is also no problem with that option).
@@Timmy-mi2ef WTF? Why is it dumb? It is a fact, you can sell every game again and getting money back after you have played it. So you can use it for new games (including online) and much more. I think your comparison with a house is just dumb. Completely different world and makes 0 sense. Wow IQ of 1
@@Timmy-mi2ef Your house comparison makes no sense. You can get money back of every physical game after you finished it. Let´s say a game on steam is 10 cheaper at release on steam, which is typical, chance is high you can buy the physical version for console for that price, but with the ability to sell it again. While digital it is burned money. So you can sell it easily for like 40 instead of the 59, so inreality you only payed 19. So not only that you get money back, also you are able to get cheaper physical games or even for free from your friends. Even if a game is older, you can get money back and in long run it is a lot. ;) Some games go even higher in prices (steelbook and so on). So console gaming is much cheaper at the end, because you can get money back of your games.
I’ve been gaming for 40 years on a near daily basis. Currently I primarily game on PS5 and PC so I can’t really speak on Xbox. I also own a Switch OLED but rarely ever use it. I mainly just have it to play Zelda. But as for PS5, I’ve been very happy with it and not at all disappointed. That’s just my experience though. I’ve been playing so many great games since it launched that I literally can’t keep up, even with a work like gaming schedule. I spend every free second I have gaming and still can’t keep up with the current pace of great game releases. Maybe that just my experience but that’s how it’s been for me. Anyway, great video 👍
Good video. As somebody who has always owns multiple consoles, I mostly agree with all of your points. Seeing the state of modern gaming makes me miss the good ol' days of the 80's & 90's. The day I can no longer buy physical copies(besides smaller Indy titles) is the day I stop buying new games.
You cannot stop developers from making games for the last generation when half of their consumers are still gaming there. The reason they aren’t upgrading to the 9th generation of consoles is because of a simple price/value problem that neither Sony nor Microsoft have addressed. The 8th generation (much like the 7th generation before it) got the magic price point to game quality and availability equation worked out perfectly despite a PS3 and then Xbox One ‘stumble’ in the beginning. Gamers loved the available games quality and their console of choice was around that magic retail price of $3-400 dollars which most people could just about find and justify spending as a FUN time expense. Take that price point beyond $400 dollars and people (families in particular) need another reason to buy a game console like with a Personal Computer where you can game and work on it and use it for browsing or streaming etc. But once you get over that $400 dollar point you need an excuse to hurt your wallet or credit card. The truth is the 9th generation of consoles just have NOT delivered on either console price point value or games quality never mind game availability. Nintendo have won against the 9th generation of consoles with arguably 7th generation technology because they got the price point right AND they never dropped the ball with the game supply! Microsoft Xbox and now Sony PlayStation both want to be something else APART from a games console manufacturer and that’s just NOT what the game players want! The Customer IS always right!
Great points, totally agree! Over their hunger for infinite money and market dominance the big corpos neglect the essential importance of reading the room and responding to the customers' needs accordingly. Otherwise all their empire will inevitably crash and burn one day when those disgruntled and disappointed customers decide to boycott their services and products. You can't continuously screw with people and expect them to come back for more. People are not stupid, eventually they'll start looking for better alternatives and better value for their buck. And since Sony are so nonchalantly breaking the sacred pricing barrier between consoles and PCs, more people will find themselves inclined to switch to PC gaming entirely by spending just a little more and get a way better overall experience in return, compared to the abysmal "improvement" Sony are willing to offer for all that insane cash they demand. And those who don't have that cash will stay either on the last gen or basic current gen platforms and won't move an inch from there, maybe not even when the next gen drops, considering the exponential growth of those prices. With that abomination that is the PS5 Pro we have a price increase of nearly 90% within THE SAME GENERATION. That's beyond insane! So we're looking at prices nearing the 1000$ mark with the next Gen, which is basically the price range of pretty solid 2k/60fps gaming PCs! If they go significantly lower, then they'll make the PS5 Pro literally a scam for its price. And if they follow through with their pricing politics nobody will buy their hardware except for those few idiots (aka "enthusiasts") with desposable income. But Sony definitely won't be able to continue with their usual strategy by trying to outdo the sales numbers of their previous gen. They just won't reach the average consumer with their elitist bullcrap anymore. However, console gaming's lifeline has always been the average consumer with their average income that allows them to spend only a certain amount of it on hobbies and luxury things like gaming. Excluding those people as the main customer base of a company is nothing short of a suicide. So, with the launch of their PS6 Sony might find themselves in the same dire situation as MS at the announcement of their Xbox One. By trying to obtain all the money in the world, they might end up with none. As the saying goes: The higher they fly, the harder they fall. And: Greed is the death of all things. I sincerely wish for Sony to learn that lesson the hard way. They very much deserve that.
While I am really narrow minded on what games I will ever give a chance and play, I have seen everything come and go since 1985. Gaming nowadays, and since about mmmm 2004ish when I noticed on like MTV I think when I saw something like a game award show or something to that effect, I saw that it wasn't jist for people like me who were absolutely trashed in school for being either autistic or awkward for being eager to make everyone laugh or to show everyone how smart I was or how well I could draw. I needed attention because I couldn't fit in at ALL but what I never told people was thst I was a gamer. That was the red line I never crossed, because in my home town in Maine right literally on the border of Canada, gaming was never talked about openly in the school halls that I ever heard, or at recess. It was always some dumb sport or I guess trucks or hunting or fishing, or making fun of people. Gaming was private and for, as far as my experience went, people who lived in their bedrooms. Eventually gaming got a lot of attention from the government because of games like Time Killer and Mortal Kombat and I suppose Pit Fighter too, with the violence, even though gaming and violence coexisted since video games' inception in the US military as war game training. Whatever. Anyways, my point is, in the mid 2000's I saw that gaming had started to become some sort of socially acceptable hobby that was on tv! For me it just jumped out of nowhere, probably because I hadn't been watching TV because I was working all the time. And now 20 years later, gaming really REALLY feels oversaturated by a bunch of fake and diet game studios and although, admittedly, I scroll through Playstation Store and ignore 99% of what I see on there, the majority doesn’t have any appeal and sincerity, not that there wasn't crappy games in the 80s 90s and early 2000's, but the overall tone and spirit of games now are just not serious in conveying something that is willing to transport a player into an outside experience separate from the garbage day to day life we have when we aren't holding a controller. That attitude is mostly just blasted out of existence now.
@@jasoncookman3158 Gaming has shifted so much some in good ways others in bad ways . We just gotta hold out for some solid releases. Problem is they take a long ass time to get here lol
This is how I feel too. I used to be an avid gamer but no releases nowadays feel “genuine” if that makes sense. They mostly all feel like money grabs, and the ones that don’t feel that way are few and far between. I am also sick of “battle passes” and “battle royale” stuff.
And this is why I started building my own PC's years ago. My current rig is about 2 years old, has more graphical processing power than a PS Pro, and is going to continue to be strong for another 4+ years.
“Competition pushes companies to innovate” is an interesting statement given the fact that the reason for Jim Ryan pushing for more live service games was to compete for market share against Fortnite/Valorant. Competition can just as easily force everyone into a box of trend chasing, which it has.
You know something that people never mention is how long games take these days. It’s not uncommon for a big AAA game to take several years to make. In those several years you might have an entire console gen jump and now the game they’ve been developing for PS4 is suddenly a PS5 game that was actually developed for a PS4. I’m sure there’s a lot of other annoying crap that goes along with that but releasing games developed for the past gen on the current gen has to be contributing to the quality of games.
My PS5 library so far : Uncharted 4 (ps4 game) GTA 5 (ps3 game) Last of us 1 remaster (ps3 game) Last of us 2 (ps4 game) Silent Hill 2 (ps2 game) Do you get it now? Most of the games on PS5 are just remakes or remasters and offers 0 original game experience..
Jim knew what he was doing. He messed things up saw what was about to happen and ran away. Honestly he shouldn't be sued by Sony for leading their company to ruin.
You sir are amazing in your video crafting capabilities! Just ran into your channel today and look forward to binging all of the videos you have made up. Awesome stuff keep up the amazing work!!!
You know why ? Because games are risky af for investors, they are scared and need a sure way to make their money back. And what do they think of ? Making the sam e game with the same recipe, or just making remakes. That's why games now feels all the same, There are no new innovations
Why do you need Sony and Xbox studious to always provide for you when there are so many third party games and indies begging for your attention? Makes no sense
10:10 You're misinterpreting what Phil Spencer is saying because I found it to be a very salient point in and of itself. He's 100% right. Xbox is down in marketshare, it's severely unpopular outside of the US as well. *Just* making great games is not going to win them back that ground now that we're in the world of people having long standing digital libraries that they want to continue being able to enjoy. Game Pass was a reasonable decision to try to regain some ground, but it's a bandaid and not a solution. Microsoft put way too much effort into Game Pass, which quite honestly would have been much better as a limited time offer rather than a monthly subscription service. I think that the best decision Microsoft honestly could make is to transition the Xbox towards being a prebuilt gaming computer with cheaper that offers backwards compatibility with previous xbox generations rather than a full game console. A gaming computer that has an integrated xbox-mode which is essentially an Xbox styled 10-foot-display desktop and also a standard Windows mode that is a full Windows experience. They could even just not let you play games that didn't come from the xbox or windows store in xbox mode then let you play everything from Steam and Epic in Desktop mode. The absolute smartest move Xbox can make is to get ahead of the inevitable slow decline of console gaming as a whole.
I agree with the overall sentiment that Xbox is trying to get ahead of the curve as console gaming as we know it mat likely die out in the future, but they must also be aware that new generations of gamers are coming to the scene every year, some people have the disposable income to buy multiple consoles etc. It's those people that Microsoft could win over with great games. I bought a 360 console again earlier in the year just because of how great their catalogue is
I went from the 360 to a laptop and then finally upgraded to a desktop and I've been running a desktop for 10 years now. And I think that was the best decision that I made in my life, was transitioning to a PC gamer long before the Xbox One even made a debut. I completely missed the next two bad generation of consoles entirely, and every single year I can say that I have the console that literally beats out every other console in power, speed, number of game titles and every single game will eventually come to me. Final fantasy 16 just came out for steam, I will be buying it. PC master race used to be such a meme back during the console wars, but now that the consoles have lost the will to fight each other the PC has overtaken them all in every aspect. People will say that PCs are too expensive, but at least we know part for part where we are spending our money. The PS5 pro, with the "Just trust us bro .." price tag is absolutely disgusting and I feel bad for every single one of you people that are locked into that console with your game libraries.

Sony's issues started before Jim Ryan became head honcho. It began when they started putting the majority of their eggs into the Cinematic Action/Adventure Style Game basket and making that the bulk of their output despite how overly expensive they were and how long they take to make. Stuff like GOW 2018, TLOU, Horizon, etc. And we're seeing those effects. AAA game development expenses have reached a point where you cannot support a console long term with this kind of business strategy. You need to have a varied portfolio of different games. Jim's push for live service definitely wasn't gonna help matters, but I think people are too quick to focus on him when Sony's issues further back than that. Nintendo, despite their own brand of idiotic decisions, showcased exactly how to do this with all the first party games they've supported the Switch with.

This is also true of Rockstar games and I think the fan behavior is pretty similar.

No, it's not the "companies" who want you to do anything. You will come to realize this in a few short years after Orange Man has been reinstalled in the Oval Office. (And no, I am not a Liberal, Marxist/Socialist/Communist, "woke", etc...)
Ideas of Fascism
*The union between businesses and the State, with the state telling the business what to do,* with nominally private ownership. Corporatism in Italy, National Socialism in Germany. Central planning of National economy. Redistribution of wealth (Nazi). --I'm sure some of you have heard of UBI (Universal Basic Income) at some point.
Economic Coordination in Fascism
Businesses are nominally privately owned; *the State dictates outputs and investments.* Planning is based on projected labor output rather than money.
What do we see the majority of Western videogame publishers promoting as far as political ideologies'? Are they asserting Conservative, or "progressive" Liberal Marxist ideologies (such as ESG, DEI, LGBTQ Pride, BLM. ie: "woke")? (Research Yuri Bezmenov, Four Steps for Communist Ideological Subversion before getting triggered and saying I don't know what I'm talking about when I say those are Marxist ideologies.)
Reverse psychology is a persuasion tactic that involves advocating for a behavior that is different than the desired outcome. In other words, you say the opposite of what you want. Also known as strategic self-anticonformity, the goal of reverse psychology is to encourage the other person to do what is actually desired.
IE: Assert Marxist/Communist ideologies with the intention of persuading/encouraging people to go the desired route of Fascism.
Definition of Fascism
An extremely nationalistic, authoritarian state is usually led by one person at the head of one party. No democratic election of representatives. No free market. No individualism or individual glory. The State controls the press and all other media.
Religion in Fascism
Fascism is a civic religion: citizens worship the state through nationalism. The state only supports religious organizations that are nationally/historically tied to that state; e.g., the Iron Guard in Romania supported the Romanian Orthodox church.
Ownership Structure in Fascism
The means of production are nominally privately owned but directed by the State. Private ownership of the business is contingent upon the submission to the direction and interests of the State.
Hegelian Dialectic (Simplified): Problem, Reaction, Solution.
Create a Liberalism/Communism problem.
Have the majority of the people reject Liberalism/Communism as intended. (Through the application of reverse psychology.)
Offer the pre-determined solution: Religious Fascism
What is the “7 Mountains Mandate” (Dominionism/Dominion Theology)? Supposedly there are 7 “mountains” of global society-Arts and Entertainment, Education, Economy, Family, Government and Military, Media and Religion. (Note: The US voting machines are called “Dominion”.) According to this false teaching, by conquering these 7 “mountains”, the Kingdom of God will be established.
Political System in Fascism
One charismatic leader has absolute authority. Often the symbol of the state. *Advisers to Government are generally picked by merit rather than election. Cronyism common.*
*The actions of liberal politicians in Washington have created a desperate need* and unique opportunity for conservatives to start undoing *the damage the Left has wrought (PROBLEM)* and build a better country for all Americans in 2025.
It is not enough for conservatives to win elections. *If we are going to rescue the country from the grip of the radical Left, we need both a governing agenda and the right people in place, ready to carry this agenda (REACTION)* out on day one of the next conservative administration.
This is the goal of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project. The project will build on four pillars that will, collectively, pave the way for an effective conservative administration: a policy agenda, personnel, training, and a 180-day playbook.
The project is the effort of a broad coalition of conservative organizations that have come together to ensure a successful administration begins in January 2025. *With the right conservative policy recommendations and properly vetted and trained personnel to implement them, we will take back our government (SOLUTION).* (Reminder...One charismatic leader has absolute authority. Often the symbol of the state. Advisers to Government are generally picked by merit rather than election. Cronyism common.)
Here is what you need to understand. These corporations do what the State tells them to, including the removal of physical media. With digital media, "book burnings" (so to speak) can be done instantaneously at the whim of the Party, with the State deciding what is acceptable or unacceptable for consumption. If you do not have the correct political or religious views of the Party, you will lose access to your media with the push of a button.

The current gen isn't even 4 years old. From which corner of your ass did you take that 6 years number?
Crazy timing
Yeeah, but PC is not the same like console. And you can play all games on PS5 as well for sure. So that´s a you thing. PC can´t give you the console experience. Windows or Steam picture mode is not on the smooth and clean level like the PS5 menu, where you can jump into your savegame in some seconds, before the console was off (not standby). Steam sales are more like PSN sales these days + chance is high, that at release you get the physical console verison for 10 cheaper (like on steam), but you can sell it again. Digitally is burned money.

This may be the worse generation so far I've experienced in my 24 years of gaming... It’s definitely going to dominate Japan, and I can see Nintendo’s footprint continue to grow in the US and Europe too as things in this industry become even more expensive without the output we desire.
Excellent vid by the way. Hope your channel grows quickly!
@@SPONGEBOB20 I always said the same thing if Nintendo just has a bit more horsepower under the hood, the sky is the limit for them along with them hopefully keeping physical games around too. Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate it !
Totally agree, the Switch is a fantastic system even now . If Nintendo make a super charged Switch 2 and get some great third party support at a sensible price point they would kill it.
@@Cyb3rSnail With handhelds, you always have to juggle: "processor speed vs. battery", "screen size vs. portability" etc. Very difficult decisions here. Nintendo does not have to go really crazy with processor performance. The original Switch runs on a ten years old chipset that used to power Android tablets already in 2013 and somehow still manages to look great (with OLED screen). Switch 2 could well use some kind of a smartphone chipset and still be felt like a significant performance boost.
Steam Deck feels like the only real competition for Nintendo at this point. As long as Nintendo delivers a competent product with a good games library, they'll be fine.
@@heavylobster4339 I don’t think the Steam Deck is even competing with the Switch because the two are targeting different demographics (even if there’s some overlap)
The Switch is mainly focused on people who are into casual/occasional gaming (i.e. the broader market.) The kind of people who play games that doesn’t need that much time investment or horsepower.
The Steam Deck is an enthusiast’s machine. It can be intimidating to some. Since you need to at least be aware of what Proton is or what a “Kernel-based Anti-cheat” is. (Just so they are aware that the game crashed/not work due to something outside of their control and NOT “I must have the wrong settings.”)
The reason that games are so bland lefeless and boring today, is becasue game developers are proritising eye catching graphics, over FUN, INTERESTING STORIES and GAMEPLAY!

The games on Sony are more incoming than what Xbox has to offer. The games are lacking somewhat.
We have more games in the libraries than can count. Just take a quick tour of the past and experience in playing them. This is the reason why I don't let my old games be sold.
Consoles have been disappointing since the 8th the last good generation was the 7th with the ps3 and Xbox 360
PS4 had a pretty great library and value for money tbh
Well the ps2 had the biggest library ever and there wasnt digital store in console only.
Another original opinion. Just insert specific number of generation and say everything else sucks 💀
Wii U was so underrated in my opinion, and it's games are my 2nd largest library behind switch
The ninth console gen is the one I will now point to when people ask me why I'm a PC gamer.

That's why my next console will be Nintendo switch 2 or the first one. I have an Xbox one s at the moment
@@12ealDealOfficialI was about to say the same thing, it’s way beyond Phil, Microsoft in general has had a questionable attitude towards video games

Agree with u on the indie scene
@@hugomventura i wouldn't even say thats an exception, as you can just plug in a controller on a PC and easily recreate the same experience as console. PC's are just significantly more flexible than consoles.

Harder to promote a gyro focused game on PC if people assume, only can, or want to play on mouse/keyboard. Meanwhile console and controller that's comes with such is easier to account for. Like "ya let's make this type of game because everyone who'll play it is guaranteed to _____."

A few questions for Phil:
1: Why would you conclude that having good exclusive games wouldn’t help you win the console war when you just lost this generation to two companies with better exclusives?
2: Why did you spend 68.7 billion dollars buying a new studio if you don’t care about exclusive games?
3: Why do you even make consoles anymore if you admit the other two can do it better?
And perhaps most importantly:
4: Why should anyone (including you) trust your theories on what would win you the console war when you helmed the company as it lost the previous two generations?
The answer is simple, Satya Nadella and the shareholders.
They don't care about the brand, the legacy and all that stuff, they just want money no matter what, Phil is not the only one to blame if you have people behind trying to squeeze money out of you as much as possible.

Hell with the steam deck it adds portability and shared library. Best part Homebrew is already to go for you.
@@snintendogyep, I’m using steam deck as my main way to game rn and it works great
Unless you like not owning your game or not being able to sell them to others.
But that point will be moot once consoles go all-digital anyway.
You don't get nintendo exclusives. You are just pirating them. Don't be a hypocrite when you are criticizing video game companies whiles pirating them
I hope consoles as a whole make a comeback
Nintendo will save gaming again with their next console
Exclusives shouldn’t be the primary reason for a consoles existence. If people are realizing the flaws that 2 9th gen consoles have without a lot of exclusives , then that’s on the platform.
Yes, a next gen console should have differences. For me I don’t see a difference between ps4 and ps5 except load times.
Your Approach On the Introduction to the video is purely 100% fantastic
I don't know why it's taken as a negative that there are fewer exclusives now than ever. It makes games more accessible and your console of choice is now just a matter of preference on what ecosystem you want to be in and for your library continuation. I don't think this generation not having as many exclusives is a bad thing at all.
Same.
Rocket League is such a massive gem, i didn't know that the concept started around Unreal Tournament 2004.
Unless you're Nintendo and you actually have a realistic budget and timeframe.
So live service games? lol No one has time to play each game
@@bulletslurp7355 And that’s what they want. They hope you live and breathe their own live-service game, just like how MMO players breathe WoW or FFXIV. That way, you’ll spend a lot of money on those games only instead of other things.
They're trying to be the opposite of NIntendo and also trying to compensate for not being a PC and are failing on every single front.
People will definitely remember the ps5
@@GokuTributeZ that was such a dump point. "Well you can sell your house so this thing is actually cheaper"
Dont see the steamdeck outperforming the switch for casuals. The switch have way more coop games
I agree, I give nintendo the W for the current console generation.
Every time I’m in a game store or games section, the kids are toying with the Switch demo, simply because of…GAMES. They actually have games
The switch is the only 9th generation.
naaaah, the customer is a wallet for you to bleed dry while making increasingly garbage products to cut costs and make even more money... duh.
Xbox just needs a Halo game with Split Screen.
It’s amazing how they forget Halo is the only reason people bought Xbox in the first place.
Imo, it's still the 8th generation. They are simply lying.

The LEGEND
You know something that people never mention is how long games take these days. It’s not uncommon for a big AAA game to take several years to make. In those several years you might have an entire console gen jump and now the game they’ve been developing for PS4 is suddenly a PS5 game that was actually developed for a PS4. I’m sure there’s a lot of other annoying crap that goes along with that but releasing games developed for the past gen on the current gen has to be contributing to the quality of games.
Games took years to develop even in 2000s.
My PS5 library so far :
Uncharted 4 (ps4 game)
GTA 5 (ps3 game)
Last of us 1 remaster (ps3 game)
Last of us 2 (ps4 game)
Silent Hill 2 (ps2 game)
Do you get it now? Most of the games on PS5 are just remakes or remasters and offers 0 original game experience..
Jim knew what he was doing. He messed things up saw what was about to happen and ran away. Honestly he shouldn't be sued by Sony for leading their company to ruin.
I'm glad I chose Nintendo

You know why ? Because games are risky af for investors, they are scared and need a sure way to make their money back. And what do they think of ? Making the sam e game with the same recipe, or just making remakes. That's why games now feels all the same, There are no new innovations
Ubisoft told us to be "comfortable" in not owning OUR games and we get comfortable not owning THEIR games!
I bought a 360 console again earlier in the year just because of how great their catalogue is
Don't make excuses for the rich snobs dick sucker.

9th gen consoles...just buy a PC.
