I found using a heavy duty scouring pad that I bought at a dollar store for $1.25 for 4 pads. It allows the soap to air dry. When the soap bar is about done, use it to scour the tub, sink, etc.

My dustpan (the kind with the long handle so you don't have to bend over to use it) has a comb built onto the front so when you're finished sweeping, you just run the broom over that comb and it removes all that hair into the dustpan.
I highly recommend buying one, but this bag trick is a really smart alternative!

Soap dishes should come with drain holes. The wet soap will slip off the rubber bands. 1) After using soap, rinse off the lather, shake the cake to remove excess water and place on dish along the narrow side so that the soap is sloping and raised by one edge to air dry. 2) You can also press into the cake a soda bottle cap and always put the soap down with the cap part below. This keeps the soap raised to allow air circulation. 3) lay a sponge on the base of the soap dish to catch the softened soap. Use sponge to clean things later... Like taps, basin, shampoo bottles, etc. Thoroughly wash the sponge after use and squeeze dry before putting it back below the soap.

I use a chux dish cloth and I have holes at the top of my rubber brom to use wet cloths for this purpose. All of these ways definitely work but a chucks or dish cloth has tiny ridged holes that grab on to the surface and your floors get a lot cleaner. You can spray on the floor and use it as a spot remover too with the above method.

A tip of my own. I have cats so for hygiene clothes & towels etc mean extra washing & drying. Before line-drying I tumble-dry - a few minutes saves expense & still dries things faster, with the bonus being the amount of fluff & pet-hair the dryer filters out! My home therefore has less dust & debris (& 'fibres') to be cleaned and the air I'm breathing is healthier too.
The dryer saves electriity & cost spent on vacuuming, ironing (creases 'tumbled' out, and heating to keep home dry & mould-free.
Further tip: Catch the lint & fluff blown out by the dryer in a mesh bag on the end of the vent-hose, whether it is inside or outside the home.
For safety & efficiency - I empty the filter every time and as soon as any build-up appears in the mesh bag by turning it inside out into the bin. Also I use a long brush and vaccuum out any lint stuck inside the vent hose. In the summer I remove the vent-hose (+ vacuum hoses etc) for thorough washing & drying.

Less germs in these days of covid. Which reminds me for Christmas I want to ask my kid to get me a hands-free liquid soap dispenser. Our hands are always dirty when we touch it...sort of defeats the purpose.

I just shake the excess water from the soap. Works like a charm. Also the plastic bag will not let the broom bristles get in between the tiles. Although, if you own a Barber shop, this may work for you.

@@PhantomFilmAustralia I put slughtly used kitchen towels/paper in a plastic bag or box to reuse them for these dirty little jobs. Whether wiping/picking up after a cat, sillages, even wiping sticky or oily debris from a pan, I've fully used them before they end up in the bin (or fire). A cheap toilet roll also serves.

Thanks for sharing your tips. I do have to ask, and I've always wondered why you put the soap under the water as you are wetting your hands. That is wasting soap. You wet your hands, and the water on your hands helps get the soap onto your hands.
