Great video but just a precision: the Diva doesn’t do the tone mapping. I have a Vertex 2 with a similar setup. Their job is to « trick » the source telling that the display is Dolby Vision compatible with the technical informations you entered. The Dolby Vision tone mapping is done by the source (4K blu-ray, Apple TV 4K, etc.).
The result is the same but it’s an important distinction.
@Yanick Doyon. Thanks for watching! I realize I may have explained it wrong in the video…….The main difference between full DV and LLDV is the source player will apply the tone mapping for LLDV, (4K Blu Ray or Apple TV) where full DV will happen on the actual TV if supported. But for a projector setup, without a device like the Diva or Vertex 2 like you have, the source player has no way of receiving and sending DV to the projector so that’s why I said the Diva “handles” the tone mapping. Sorry if it was confusing.
No problem! I wish I had that video when I started with my Vertex 1. I was suprised that there was nothing detailed like your video about this. I also like the fact that it automatically switches my JVC modes depending of the content when plugged with the RS232 cable.
@@yand99 Really? That’s cool! Yea I felt the same, I was like there are NO videos on this so I figured I would share what I learned. It’s an amazing device especially if you have a projector. I’m interested to see how it handles DV & LLDV with projectors that have HDR 10+
What's the difference between the Vertex 2 and Diva. Amazon reviews show more people favor the Vertex.
@@3483maverick So the major difference is the Diva is an hdmi switcher. The vertex is not. So if you dont need the extra hdmi ports then the Vertex basically does the same thing as the Diva without the hdmi switcher
Amazingly detailed review with clear and easy to follow directions, thank you for explaining everything so well, congratulations. subscribing for your effort.
Thank you for your support! I’m glad I could help I try to explain everything as simple as possible.
Thanks I been looking in to get one, but no one was saying about 3D as I got a lot of 3d movies. Your review has told me a lot, so I'm getting one tomorrow . Thank you
Awesome. You’re welcome!
Great video! Is it possible to use this method with the JVC DLA-N5? Does that make sense? Because the N5 also has the so-called "Frame Adapt HDR". Does both work in combination? Would Dolby Vision look better on a Hisense px3 or on a jvc n5 with LLDV?
Thanks! I’m pretty sure you can still use it with the N5. However not sure if you can use both at the same time. I’d choose N5 over Hisense all day
@@hatoraidcowboy Thanks for the answer. Is it possible to run a 5.1 sound system via the optical connection? Because the N5 does not have an optical connection.
@davidsilberhorn you can get 5.1 from optical but I believe that’s the limited and you wont get Atmos
cheers mate. That was a really good review and explanation. Just received my LS12000B but this is now on my list for future upgrades.
Cheers! Wow I’m envious of your new toy 😁 I’d love to get my hands on a new Epson laser. Let me know what you think of it and the Diva together if you purchase one.
Pulled the trigger on a vrroom! Since I also have an Epson LS12000, would love to see a video showing full settings like your Epson tamed dynamic mode along with HDR settings on the fury. I read a lot about people experimenting with things like max nits and what have you. I’m not quite sure about that part
Congrats! Honestly I’m still trying to get HDFury on the channel to share some settings and best use cases. You can do a lot with the Fury I just dont know how. I’m just using the basic presetts for LLDV
@@hatoraidcowboy Thanks man, looking forward to getting it. Although, I also kind of feel like a fool because apparrently there is a $30 device called an EZCOO that does the LLDV hack. So basically, I bought a $600 toy to do LLDV when $30 would have done it. I mean, I get that the Fury does a lot more too, but honestly they are probably things I will never even use. I don't even understand most of the features they explain on the site lol. I guess I figured you get what you pay for and I didn't want to deal with frustrations and also I see a lot of good examples of the HD fury configurations
Fury products have multiple hdmi ports too though so you can hook up more sources to it
Yeah, that’s my thought too. I am using zidoo z2000 (thanks to you!) and apple tv 4k g3
@jastorino Awesome!
Thanks for the video, I'm still trying to figure out what these boxes are capable of. I ordered a HDFury box this evening and I'm planning to use it with a Blackmagic bi-directional SDI/HDMI 12G as a LUT box for my UHZ65
You’re welcome!
I’m never heard of that Blackmagic device. What is it supposed to do?
El hdfury 8k vrroom 40gbps tambien te permite tener dolby vision en cualquier tv o proyector que unicamente tenga HDR10 ?
Yes. In fact you need an HDR10 display in order to get LLDV
Thanks for explaining lldv in plain english for us!
No problem bro!
Hi, I have a VAVA4k projector, NVdia shield and an XMC-2 processor. I just got the Arcana2 to get Dolby vision on my projector. I don’t use a DVD player nor gaming systems, ONLY the shield to watch movies. I watched your video but had a question.
Am I supposed to connect the Arcana2 in between my projector and SHIELD or between the SHIELD and Processor? My processor is getting TRUEHD7 atmos sound that’s being delivered through my shield. Just wanted to do it correctly. Thanks 🙏🏽
As long as your processor supports DV, you can use the XMC-2 in the chain
Hi, you stated that you pluged your sources into the diva and then out to the receiver. Are you refering to the audio out on the diva to the receiver hdmi in or the tx0 to a hdmi in on the receiver? The arrow was pointing at the tx0
Currently, I have my devices plugged into the 4 hdmin in, and running audio out to my processor. I’n bypassing the video in my processor
Thanks, I had my vertex 2 hooked up as you do now however my sound was in and out , then all worked well and last nothing at all sound or picture. On everything not connected to the vertex all worked as should be. I returned it to amozon since my 30 day return time was almost up and now I will try the diva. @@hatoraidcowboy
Are you going from diva Tx0 or TX1 out to your projector or are you going to your projector thru your processor?@@hatoraidcowboy
This is a great video! You explained it in great detail. I also hit the L & S buttons as well. I have a JVC NZ3 laser projector that does auto tone mapping which makes set up easy. The picture is very nice too. I use MarantZ SR 5014 for surround and Nvidia Shield for streaming. It is capable of upscaling video too. My question is, where should the HD Fury be placed in the chain? Should it be between the receiver and Shield or between the Shield and projector? (I hope this question makes since) Thanks!
Thank you! My suggestion would be, play around with both! See which one you like best. But me personally, I would put it between the receiver and the shield. That way the receiver will just pass the signal through to the projector. I assume your Shield is the 2019 version that supports DV and the AI upscaling?
@@hatoraidcowboy Yes, it's the 2019 version. And I was thinking the same; placing it in between the receiver and Shield. But, I was worried that the Shield would override all settings from the Fury which made me think I should put it in line to the projector. First things first, I have to buy it . I'll do that today and then play around with it to see what works best.
Thanks!
@@WalkersLawn Np bro! Let me know how it goes!
@@WalkersLawnso how did you like it? Where did you place it on the chain?
Well, I started having problems with the JVC and sent it back and ended up buying an Epson 5050UB that has a fantastic picture and is very quiet as well. Having said that, I never bought the HD Fury. I don't think I need it.
Thank you so much for this video! Forgive me if I missed this in your video or if someone already asked this question and you already answered. I have a vava chroma. My main issue with the hdr10 is the image is noticeably darker. Does using the Diva with LLDV fix this issue and display the content with the same brightness as my sdr content would? Thank you!
LLDV will tone map according to your display’s capabilities and then adjust on the fly in real time. It always looks great on my projector 🙂
@@hatoraidcowboy thank you!
Great video, thanks for such a detailed explanation! I have an Epson 6050UB which I think is comparable to your projector in terms of features. Does yours have an HDR slider to adjust the level like mine and if so--I imagine the Diva eliminates the need to keep moving the slider around from scene to scene. Let me know if that's the case and if you just keep it on one level now regardless of content?
@ Ian Koff Thank you! Yea the 6050UB is very similar to the 5040…I think the 6050 has better contrast ratio and supports 12 bit color.
Mine does have the HDR slider but I never use that with the Diva. I use the Diva to change HDR signals. The LLDV gets tone mapped on your player and then gets sent back in an HDR 10 container to your projector so the signal still gets tone mapped before it gets to your projector.
@@hatoraidcowboy I understand. If yours is like mine, the slider is engaged by default so you basically *have* to keep it at a setting. Wondering if you keep yours at 1 so you're affecting the HDR signal as little as possible from the projector itself?
@@iankoff82 I believe mine is on #1….I need to double check. I havent even been in that part of the menu since I’ve had the DIVA lol But I’ll double check and let you know.
@@hatoraidcowboy can you tell us if you checked your HDR Slider? I get my Arcana today and not to have playing around with the Slider is the main reason I want to use this LLDV hack.
I’ve never really messed with the HDR slider. I have here recently with my zidoo, but yoy can just use one of the LLDV presets and not need to do anything else.
I have a 5040 ub , jvc rs1000, and a rs3000, might get one to see how the 5040 with hd fury compares to rs1000 with out one.
That would be a great comparison!
Thanks for the detailed review. Can HDFury do DTM of a static source? For example, a source mastered to 4k nits, DTMed to HDR10 levels that can actually be handled by a projector?
@Okamakiri First off I apologize for some reason I never got an alert for this comment. Thank you for watching!
To answer your question, the Diva supports Dolby Vision, HDR 10+, and HDR 10. Since HDR 10+ and DV are dynamic, then yes, as long as your receiver and/or tv supports Dolby Vision. This exactly what LLDV does. It takes the Dolby Vision meta data and tone maps it into LLDV and sends it back to your display in an HDR 10 container.
@@wolverine7326 You are correct. Sorry for the confusion. If your tv supports DV then you really dont need a device like this. Its still an awesome device to have even if you don’t “need” it. It can still give you some features not found on most tv’s.
Something makes me think my JVC RS3000 is pretty close to this without a preprocessor.
I would love to demo JVC Projectors. I hear the tone mapping is pretty great.
Great video - are you able to get the lldv with simply plugging and plyaying?
Pretty much. You’ll have to go into the EDID tab and select a LLDV profile. And of course your source device or streamer and receiver need to support Dolby Vision. Basically everything in your video chain(except display) needs to be DV compatible.
@@hatoraidcowboy how do I know wich one to select ?
Do you need multiple hdmi inputs or just one?

Sweet!! Did you notice an improved image?
Absolutely! Maybe not so much in 4K since all my components support 4K, but the dynamic range, color saturation, and HDR really popped and looked soooo much better after I incorporated the Diva. But it does great upscaling as well for non 4K content. It’s an awesome device!
@@hatoraidcowboy I'm running a Sony 715 which has it own way of tone mapping so I wondering how will it help. I'm going to have to investigate
@@avtechman77 I would think the Diva would still do a better job since that’s what it is designed to do, AND it will get you Dolby Vision. Sony does some great things with their video processors. But the processor still has to share a lot of other functions, whereas the Diva can do so much more.
@@hatoraidcowboy Good point
Great video, im now looking forward to purchase device.. I own a epson 5050, so cannot wait to see how it handles dynamic tone mapping... I would also like to ask is the sony edid you used the best to use for every device? I have a ps5 and it will be connected i know it doesnt accept dolby vision but wondering what would best setting be for that
Does it accept profile 7/8 dolby vision or just profile 5? I.e. do you get full enhancement layer / etc. if playing a bluray from a 4k disc.
@Nicolas Gomez Not sure on that. Let me see if I can find out which profile/layer it is using.
I have a Jvc Rs540. It can handle 18gps. It supports HDR 10. Is it worth the upgrade for this adapter?
I would say yes! My projector is an Epson 5040UB, 4K e-shift that also supports HDR 10 and 18gbps. So very similar to yours. And I can honestly say it’s been one if the best upgrades in my home theater gear I’ve ever made. Being able to have Dolby Vision/LLDV has been a game changer and it also does so much more. Hi 👋🏽 Hatoraid Cowboy 🤠,
As Always Thanks for Your TH-cam content!!👊🏽😉👊🏽
I’m in a little hole and request your advise? I have a Yamaha 3040 receiver with a New Sony Z9F TV Dolby Vision. The receiver isn’t Dolby Vision. Will the HD FURY Diva or 8K Vrroom will give me the Dolby Vision on the TV. I’m trying to prevent an unnecessary update to the receiver for now due to price increase. Will this help? Your advise is Always Welcome 🤗.
Thanks again 🙏🏾👊🏽😉👊🏽🙏🏾
@Lbmwm3 Thank you for the support!
Yes you can get Dolby Vision with the Diva or the Vrroom. I would suggest plugging the Diva or Vroom directly into your Z9F(Hdmi w/earc) and then plug all your main components into the Diva or Vrroom to get the Dolby Vision. And then use the audio out on the Diva or Vrroom to one of your hdmi inputs on your receiver for your sound. You wont have to switch the input on your receiver as the Diva and Vrroom is also a switcher.
You can switch inputs on the Diva or Vroom with the web interface(I use my ipad sometimes) or if you have a Logitech universal remote that would be best for seamless switching with Activities. Sweet TV you got there!!!

So I had made a choice but after reading the comments I may have to change my mind. I was going with the vertex2 and connected to the inputs was going to be my Marantz 8802a, my Zappiti Reavon, my shield and my firestick. It was suggested to me to connect the vertex hdmi 0 input to the AVR monitor 1 output my plasma tv to the tx0 outbut of vertex my 5040 projector to the tx1 output of the vertex. Then I read that the vertex will not auto switch. Doesn't that mean I will have to go with the Diva?
I only have experience with the Diva, but if that’s true about the Vertex2, then I can tell you my Diva does autoswitch if you configure it that way. I turned that feature off so that my harmony remote will do the switching when I switch from activities.
I find it hard to believe the Vertex2 will not autoswitch. They might not have it enabled in the settings.
Thank you for your fast reply. I have been looking at both of these for quite a while now and was almost decided on the Diva but I contacted HDcustomer support and was told that the vertex 2 was all I needed. That was before I read a reviewer state that it did not have auto switching. After asking you I researched again and discovered this, Autoswitch any Source
Supports TMDS/pixel clock switching, capable of auto-switching sources that keep sending 5V in standby mode. I assume this is what we are talking about. Forgive my lack of knowledge but at 76 it's getting hard to keep up with it all. @@hatoraidcowboy
No need to apologize. 😃 I’m 99% certain the Vertex2 will autoswitch. It’s almost the same product as the Diva.
I just checked the technical specs for the Vertex2 and it supports autoswitching.

hi, hope all is well. If you would answer a couple more questions, Can I plug the vertex into a smart plug so I can turn it off when not in use or does it have to stay pluged in all the time. Also once I have it all set up can I disconnect the ethernet cable until such time I may need to update something or change some settings? thanks again for your time.@@hatoraidcowboy
@charleskeating7283 Yes you can plug it into a smart plug. You’ll just have to wait for it to boot up a little longer.
Not sure if these devices have wifi. Mine has always been connected to ethernet.
I just discovered this HDFury devices and need one for Dolby Vision as well to activate Atmos on a Bose 900 Soundbar that I can’t fully use. Would you recommend the HD Fury Diva over the HD Fury Arcana.??
How many devices are you needing to hookup? The Diva will have more hdmi ports for devices. If you dont need 4 hdmi ports, save some cash and go with the arcana
Thank you sooooo much.
Can you still configure the Arcana via a web browser like the diva.??
I’m not sure but the product page for Arcana doesnt list it.
Can this give me Dolby Vision if I have a 1080p projector?
If your projector supports HDR 10 then its possible
Could you make a guide for Samsung tv owners wich notoriously miss DV ? You'd make millions tv owners happy and gain tons of tumbs up ;)
I would if I had a Samsung TV 😩 If I ever get my hands on a review unit I’ll def try
@@hatoraidcowboy I'll look forward to it
And one more question. Does he fury Dolby vision improve HDR10 films or this working only with dv content ?
You can configure the Fury to do different things based on the content you are watching….like upscaling 1080p or creating custom tone mapping when HDR 10 content is displayed. However doing so is requires more advanced knowledge. But
so what would the difference be between this and the Vroom which does 40gbps? Would there be any benefit to getting the more expensive Vroom in terms of dolby vision output? I only want it for that purpose for my Epson 5050UB.
The VROOM supports full hdmi 2.1 with 8K support and 40gbps like you stated. Beyond that they are pretty much the same.
Will hd fure vertex2 do the same?
Yes, that’s what I use with my JVC DLA-X790R (plugged between the JVC and my Anthem AVM60)
Hey mate, on my projector it says the it plays DV but the output shows SDR. Even on the VRROOM it shows SDR on both source and Video TX. I use Panasonic ub820 to play 4k discs. Pretty much the story with Apple TV content. I am pretty sure I am getting DV just wanted to get your input. Cheers
What projector are you using?
@@hatoraidcowboy samsung lsp7t
Make sure you have DV enabled on the Apple Tv. I’m not sure how that works with a display that already supports DV. If your display already supports you should be getting it natively on the LG.
Cheers. The projector only supports HDR/HDR 10+ hence using the VRROOM. When viewing Apple TV, the content viewing indicates DV (when available) despite what’s showing on the projector or VRROOM display (shows as SDR)But with 4ks, although I can’t confirm, with PQ I am seeing it almost certainly I am getting DV. Would help if I can get it confirmed.
@thiwang3450 Sounds like a setting issue somewhere in the chain. Are you using a receiver or processor?
Is this worth it if your projector only does 13Gbps? I have a Sony VW285es projector. It especially doesn't do well at 60hz content and does forces it 8bit. Does this device give the flexibility to force content to run at 24fps? If so then at 24 it can do 10bit.
@wiseoracle Thank you for watching!
The Diva just passes along content but you can set parameters for scaling based off the incoming signal to the Diva. You still should be able to get Dolby Vision, albeit in a lower color bit color. But typically most projectors should have no problem with 24fps @ 10 bit.
Great video thanks
Absolutely thank you for watching!
Hello,
may I ask a question: I have a Sony VW1100es, which is not capable of HDR. But I use a custom Gamma-curve. Can I force HDR with HDFury-Diva? If yes, how?
@Michel Dal let me do a little research on that. There is a ton of customization with the Diva but I’d like to think yes but I havent come across anyone with a non HDR display yet.
@@hatoraidcowboy Thank you very much for your time and I am looking forward to your respond.
@@MichelDal3 So technically I dont think you can force HDR to a non HDR display, BUT you can downscale the HDR signal to SDR to your display.

Probably your projector but I would experiment with both to see which is the culprit. You might even get good results raising both
Thank you!@@hatoraidcowboy
how can the projector show a dolby vision picture if the viva need to convert it to regular hdr10 (projector input)?
It’s basically dynamic tone mapping, the projector is just not doing it. Dolby Vision tone mapping is done on the display, LLDV is done on the device/player. So its being tone mapped before it gets to the projector and its being sent in a format that the projector can interpret and display

What is your TV model?
@@hatoraidcowboy my TV is Kogan 55" 4K UHD HDR LED Smart Android TV (Series 9, TU9220)
So it looks like your Soundbar has Earc, but your TV doesnt. Which makes me wonder what HDMI version your tv is using.
However the Diva can still work. You would have to connect your tv to the Soundbar’s HDMI IN, and then connect the Diva to one of your Soundbar’s HDMI ports. Then just connect your components to the Diva’s HDMI ports. The Diva will handle the HDMI switching AND audio and you’ll still get Atmos & DTS:X.
You only need arc or eArc on your tv if you are connecting components directly to the hdmi ports on your tv and then trying to send the audio back to your receiver or soundbar.
Will a device link this work on a Sony 285ES projector which is what I have or will the projector need to be a certain model?
Your projector will need to support HDR 10
@@hatoraidcowboy it does as noted below.
The Sony VW285ES has a rated light output of 1,500 lumens (Sony does not specify a contrast ratio) and supports High Dynamic Range playback in both the HDR10 and HLG formats, as well as Rec 2020 color mapping. However, I don't think it will support HDR10+ though.
My Epson 5040UB did not support HDR10+ but still got it to work with the HDFury
@hatoraidcowboy: My next question is will it go in seamlessly without making changes to my C4 configuration? Also; will it cause lamp based projectors to wear out faster since it will be using more output than normal?
Thanks for your detailed review and product knowledge.
PM
Its plug n play so it wont make changes to your C4 configuration. And the HDFury doesnt make your projector use more light output. The LLDV tone mapping will be done on the player/streaming device. The only way your projector will use more light is if you manually switch to a profile that uses more light, or you increase the brightness manually.
One question, I have a 1080p tv, can I play ps4pro/ps5 4k in my 1080 tv? Does it works like nvidia's Dynamic Super Resolution?
@Claudio Ferreira Unfortunately the Diva can’t upscale to 4K on a 1080p tv. It will upscale 1080p on a 4K tv if you had one. With your tv you’re limited to 1080p no matter what.
@@hatoraidcowboy but the thing is, on my pc I can upscale to 4k and it runs 4k resolution
And your pc is connected to a 1080p tv? If that’s the case, then your games are probably running at 4K resolution but your tv’s max resolution is still only 1080p. 4K requires 4x the bandwidth of 1080.
What is probably happening is your Nvidia card is upscaling your games to 4K on your pc, but in order for your tv to display the pixels, it has to be down converted back into a 1080p signal.
@@hatoraidcowboy yeah but I want to know if this device can compress 4k image into 1080p tv or monitor, cause nvidia has that feature for like 10 years and it makes an huge diference in details you can try yourself

Good to see you are Astros fan
Nice video but I can tell you have watched a presentation on how to talk using body language and hand movements as if your doing a TED talk or something.
Thanks, and nope I havent, that’s just me. I’ve been speaking in front of crowds for 30 years
LLDV is just downscaling a signal. Nobody should want this. If quality is what you require in a display, a direct view display will give you a better result than any projector.
@frosted1030 Thanks for watching! I beg to differ though. There’s no way to get DV if you have a projector and a device like this makes that possible. Is it the full version? No but its still better than HDR 10 with no tone mapping.
@@hatoraidcowboy "No but its still better than HDR 10 with no tone mapping." In a normal person's livingroom, compare the quality of ANY projector directly to an OLED screen of the same size. Tell me why the projector ALWAYS looks worse.
@@frosted1030 True a projector will NEVER get as bright as an OLED. And OLED’s can turn off individual pixels. There’s no argument there LOL But for me this device does wonders, not just LLDV. That was my main purpose for buying, but has a ton of versatility and customization features that even the highest end tv’s don’t have. But I’m more than happy with for LLDV 😁
@@hatoraidcowboy Most people are not going to spend the money on a light controlled theater room. I started to think along those lines myself, looking at 150" projection until I saw that you simply can't get this started for under $50,000 with any quality. While finance is a barrier to entry, OLED will always win in the end.
@@frosted1030 True, the average consumer probably cant afford to properly light control your room especially during this inflation, but there are cheaper ways to do it. Something is better than nothing. 😁 OLED reigns supreme but the only downside is that for those wanting the biggest screen possible, tv’s are either not available beyond a certain size, and if they are you’re going to need to have to sell a liver to afford it LOL
