      I've owned one siince launch, depending on your needs it may be overkill but perfect for someone with a more complex setup. It has 2 2.1 video outputs, an HDMI audio only and HDMI eARC port. It can be a switch or matrix. In switch mode it just outputs one source to both displays, say a TV and projector. In matrix mode it can output one input to the projector and a different input to the TV (HDMI input 1 to PJ, HDMI input 2 to TV). I believe it can still do 4K 60hz in matrix mode but it can't do dual 8K or dual VRR (it can in swirch mode) which would be rare, especially now that the EU has passed an energy law for displays which has drastically reduced the push to 8K which isn't needed outside probably 120"s and up. I own one, mainly for the LLDV trick to get DV on a non DV display like Samsung or a projector. When the source does the tone mapping (LLDV) it can actually be displayed in any TV, the colors just look washed out unless the display is capable of doing DV and the VRROOM just does this instead of the display. With STD (display led) DV the display does the dynamic tone mapping. Going forward LLDV is mandatory and STD is optional but big OLED makers still support it like Sony and LG because they know what their displays are capable of. This causes issues for gaming as it takes different displays different amounts of time to process the dynamic metadata which is fine for movies/TV but not for games.
      It can do a lot of other stuff. Most of it over my head though. You can also set the static metadata values in regular HDR content to customize it for your display as HDR, static or dynamic, is just metadata (a hex value). I will say I have owned a few HDFury products and they are always fantastic and their discord is awesome. When I first got the VRROOM I had an issue, posted it in discord (HDFury official discord channel) and an update to fix it was on their site the next day.

    Love the videos. I have a setup similar to yours using a projector. A couple of quick questions - can you confirm that to get Dolby Vision you need to use either the HD Fury 4K Diva or the 8k VRROOM 40GBPS (like you). Do any of the other HD Fury products also allow Dolby Vision for a projector (8K Arcana 2 VRR and 4K Vertex 2 seem to be similar boxes but are a bit cheaper). Also if I get this I assume I will need to get my Control 4 system updated by my supplier as I will now only be using a single HDMI in from the HD Fury box and don't need to use my AVR for spilitting the signal to the right source - Apple TV; Zidoo; XBOX? Thanks Phil

    Great video, its made me curious and i can see a few others too from the comments. With JVC having its own tone mapping eg frame by frame i thought this was instead of hdr+ or dolby vision but i see in one of the above comments, you said it works with it? So i've definitely missed something. Would you mind explaining when you get a min.

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Truth be told, I don't know the answer to your question in any definitive way. What I have done is test with and without frame adapt WHILE having the DV signal come from the source (remember that the projector is just getting a HDR signal and doesnt know anything about Dolby Vision) and I found the image was much better with frame adapt enabled. So the technicals behind it - I have NO clue but I know I love the image. HDR10+ is it's own thing, ignored by the HDFury and the projector will play it as intended.

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not necessarily. The HDFury VRRoom solves problems more than it fixes your projector's natural ability to produce black levels. It improves the way your devices can connect, displays things like Dolby Vision, and can separate audio from video for 8K content like gaming that requires more than 1 HDMI for audio/video to get the high frame rate.

      Hey there and no the HDFury does not change anything you don't ask it to. HDR10 is still 444 12bit coming in to the projector. The frame adapt HDR is still applied even with the Dolby Vision signal as it's simply a HDR signal from the JVC's perspective.

      @@davemccague222 the NP5 and NZ7, from what I've heard, are effectively the same except for bulb vs laser. You won't see quality differences unless you go to the NZ8 or NZ9, and those are much pricier.
      I love my NP5, and as posted just now, have been able to make it shine (pun intended). It all depends on the room characteristics and throw distance (less light control and longer distance will require a brighter output.

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I wouldn't be able to say it will improve anything. I know with MadVR there are a number of ways to configure them - essentially the HDFury doesn't do any tone mapping like people are assuming. Its simply tells the source that the display can do Dolby Vision - it does a lot more than that but the focus of the video was related to Dolby Vision.

Technical specifications sometimes can be your enemy when it comes to enjoyment. All I know is that with the HDFury and DV enabled, I love how it looks on both of my setups - It looks better than HDR10, so whatever the HDFury is doing, Im very happy with it :)

    I need this for my formovie theater UST. Been eyeing this off for agers.
    I currently get DV by forcing my sony x800m2 to play DV and my formovie plays it in DV.
    But LLDV is better the formovie in DV mode loses about 20% contrast compared to running it in HDR.
    So getting VRoom I can force LLDV and HDR to get my 20% contrast back while getting the LLDV metadata and tone mapping that HDR lacks.

    • @BuildMontage

    • @leighagnello7993
      @leighagnello7993 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @BuildMontage yes it does but LLDV is better than DV.
      And it will only do DV if the 4k disc has DV on it. Unless you have a 4k player to force DV permanently which mine does than it will do all 4k disc in DV HoWEVER like I mentioned DV losses alot of native contrast compared to using HDR.
      (Due to formovie theater software being developed like this)
      So the VRROOM you can get 0 contrast loss because you send the HDR signal than pop out LLDV to get an amazing result.

      No no.. the 8K is specifically for 8K TVs and Projectors such as the JVC NZ8 which has the 8K eshift option. What it allows is for you to bypass the lack of HDMI 2.1, however I believe the x6700 supports HDMI 2.1, but not sure about 8K you may need to check that.. By splitting the audio and video inside the HDFury it allows you to do it without losing the audio, as 8K often requires more bandwidth.

    This seems like a pretty cool product, but there are 2 major issues I would run into if I bypass the AVR for video. 1) I don't have a harmony remote or Control 4, so I wouldn't be able to switch sources easily.
    2) I can't live without the OSD from my AVR, since that's the only way I can make adjustments via the menu...
    And if I go through the AVR, then I still have the issue of my Yamaha not being able to pass the HDR10+ signal to the PJ...
    Also, I'm sure to the eye it looks incredible, but the off screen footage in this video just looks like you turned on "vivid" mode. ; )

      You don't need to set it up that way. It's not the purpose for buying it to get 8K - Im just showing options of the way you can set it up. If you want 8K and 2.1 through your reciever you will simply need to upgrade it if you don't want to lose the OS. Im saying in my case, I don't care about OSD as the Trinnov uses a VNC connection to get to the settings, the only OSD from Trinnov now is a volume control which I don't need as I have other ways to see that sort of info.

      @BuildMontage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey David, not to argue with someone way more qualified than I am, however, I don't believe this is the case. There are two types of Dolby Vision 1) Display does LUT (DV), 2) Source does the LUT (LLDV). Ive done direct comparisons between them in I can't tell the difference - I have tested on Dolby Certified devices. Whether or not DV can be displayed natively on a display is more directly related to licensing and whether or not the company will get the license to have Dolby Vision. Essentially it's just a LUT so if your projector can do HDR then it can do Dolby Vision as DV is essentially a LUT/colour grade. What the HDFury device does is simply tell the source that the display is capable of DV - and then pushes the LUT via HDR. Either way, whether or not it's right or wrong, I really like how the tone mapping is applied especially on my JVC.
