- The second war smashed onto our screens bigger and better than before! The introduction of the new house robot Sir Killalot brought shock and awe to the wars. New presenter Craig Charles presents, Johnathon Pearce commentates and Philippa Forrester interviews the teams. The six combatants are Behemoth, Inquisitor, Razer, Elvis, Milly-Ann Bug and Bodyhammer..

This was definatly a heat showing the future.
Bodyhammer, soon to be replaced by Pussycat, which is arguably the best robot which hasn't won a series.
Behemoth, a robot that was constantly updated and improved, and honestly was a little unlucky with it's places in some of the later series. Could be considered as an underdog.
And I don't even need to tell you about Razer.
First appearances of both Behemoth and Razer, as well as the return of Bodyhammer (the future Team Pussycat, ironically, the only team to ever beat Razer in a straight-up fight). This'll be a good one.
Craig's joke at 3:02 when talking about how looks aren't everything is hilarious in hindsight- this episode was broadcast about 5 months before the release of a movie you might remember- it was called THE MATRIX. "Can you imagine Keanu Reeves in a fight?" Even if I can't, Craig, I won't need my imagination.
Not an auspicious first performance from David Gribble, but by god would he rise after this!
+ArcaneAzmadi it was not his first attempt as body hammer was in the 1st wars and did reasonably well
+Lord Of Cynicism David Gribble wasn't on the Bodyhammer team in Series 1. The original Bodyhammer team consisted of Robin Herrick, Andrew Dayton-Lovett and Steve Jones, with David Gribble only replacing Steve Jones here. Team Cold Fusion was one of the most malleable teams in the Wars; although they fought in every war except the 6th, they had 10 different members at different times with no-one appearing in more than 5 series (David Gribble fought in Wars 2-5 plus Extreme).
At least this Inquisitor didn't try to delete Craig Charles from space and time.
Oh God!! Razer in the early years!! Don't worry boys, your time will come.... has come... did come.... now I've confused myself.... HELP!!
Behemoth though! YIKES!! Now there IS a team with a glorious future, they still compete to this day.
Don't worry about Tense. It's just the WSOGMM. Just enjoy the chaos.

Instantly crossed my mind to re-watch this after tonight's Robot Wars episode - a gap of nearly 19 years since Behemoth won it's first heat here, to it's upset win over Apollo tonight. Man I feel old :O
Half of the robots from this heat were in the same heat in series 4 (B)

@MultiBattleaxe Agreed. In fairness, they didn't really lose because of his driving. It got stuck so soon that we never really got to see his driving skills.
RIP David Gribble, and fair play to his father Alan, for continuing to work with Robot wars after his son's death.

Two legends of Robot Wars, Razer was always my favourite (as it was for most) simply because it looked cool, and their team were just evil! :)

I never realised that the behemoth team entered with their dad in the first series. I can't get over how different it looks compared to later series.
This looks like the heat with the best robots, just with Behemoth and Razor!
The 2 met in extreme 1 all stars round 2.
Bodyhammer is great, it's a fantastic robot for fighting

Razer won quite a few of the world championships if I remember rightly which is probably what they might have been thinking of.

I agree. Team Cold Fusion should have entered both Pussycat and Bodyhammer for the third wars.
milly-ann-bug, body hammer (later pussycat) and razer appear in the same heat with each other in this series and theywould all appear together in heat b of the fourth wars
@georgemiser That's when the team decided to build a machine that's actually serious. I mean, Behemoth looked pretty hilarious looking back then, today it actually looks like it could kill something.
@JamLawlipop The shape of Pussycat and Bodyhammer is very alike so I think they might of took Bodyhammer apart to use the chassies.

If Bodyammer had chosen the sentinel route, i think it may have gone through, as the sentinel would have difficulty pushing such a narrow robot. Bodyhammer could have beaten anyone else in the heat, even Razer (it's claw would just graze the shell and slide down like against Aggrobot, plus Bodyhammer could push Razer around). This is why I think that the Gauntlet and Trials shouldnt have been part of the main competition- many great fighters fell early, while weaker ones went through and lost.

Why did Mortis get seeded 2nd when it didn’t get to the final and bodyhammer did but got seeded 3rd
Because Mortis was hugely favoured by the producers.
you aren't allowed to enter 2 robots (unless you're team Typhoon, anyway)
