Your daughter got me started in thinking I could have chickens too, so I have 5 chickens and purchased a small chicken coop. I am not allowed to have a rooster in my neighborhood, but I really enjoy watching them and collecting eggs. I had never picked a chicken up in my life but I figured if your daughter could do it, then I could too. I call them my , moving Yard ornaments. Lol!
I wish my subdivision allowed hens. I'd have 3 or 4! I LOVE chickens!

At one time I raised parrots. I had a very talkative African Gray who when the baby cockatiels would have night fright would sweetly say “Don’t be scared baby, it’s ok.”

My take-away from Cog Hill Farm [ every time] is how to be grateful: how to be gracious and respectful and share it all around...boots, feathers, leaves or fur.
We were at the Gulf Coast Homesteader Meet up yesterday. We live near Augusta Ga 360 miles away. I have been following Cog Hill Family Farm since searching YT about hatching and raising Emus. I did hatch two chicks but they had deformed legs and didn’t make it. Love to watch Nugget. We have a family farm and began rescuing farm animals a few years ago. Our channel is to make folks aware of all the animals that are in need of a safe and happy place. This is our way to reach out to families since it’s more of a challenge to educate. We enjoyed you and Brooke and your candid conversation with us at the meet. So glad we made the trip and it was also our 44 yr anniversary.👍

hello Jason, Brooke and Mary Carl, im a dutch guy living in Bulgaria for 2 years now. I start following you all this year and i have to say, i did subscribe to a few other channels on home steading (hope i wrote that right) but your channel is the one i watch as soon as it comes on the youtube. Exactly that what you said in this podcast is the why I watch your channel, no lecture but just show everything your way and learn from it. Greetings from a small village in the north east of this beautiful country and stay your beautiful self.
What Jason and Brooke said is exactly why I watch your videos. Nice, kind, humble, down to earth people that I wish I had as my friends or next door neighbors. If everyone was like this family our world would be a much better place. You both are wonderful people and of course that would make Marycarl a nice, sweet, kind and beautiful little girl. As a TH-cam fan I believe we as watchers come for the content initially but stay for the creators based on their personalities, heart and souls.

When I was a young girl, I used to be TERRIFIED of speaking in front of people. When I started working for the State of Oregon, we had to speak in group situations. I learned, IF, I spoke first, it was over with, and people would “forget” about you. Overtime I got over being terrified, still get nervous, but I can do it now.

We so enjoyed meeting Jason yesterday, I even got to speak to MaryCarl (who is an absolute doll btw) I could not get near Brooke (who stayed surrounded, and I never wanted to interrupt with my gushing fan nonsense, lol). Anyway it was a great day and I enjoyed all of it! Ready to get our farm ready for living on and to leave the subdivision!
Your down to earth attitude about the family and the farm and how you handle everyday life/situations is what draws people to you. It’s just so refreshing to see ‘regular’ folks being ‘regular’ folks.

Comment on the pond. You really, really should consider getting fish in your pond as soon as you can. Small fish like blue gill and sun fish. They eat mosquito larvae. Without small fish you will have a serious mosquito issue. I didn't know where else to put this comment but I am watching your podcast and figured I would just put it here. Hope that helps. @bikernick78 Jason when describing the layout of orchard and dam mentioned stocking the dam with bream 'cos of the mosquitoes.
I'm so glad for Mary Carl, it takes a lot of bravery to step outside of your comfort zone to do something new. (New places tend to stress me out.) . But if I push myself a little I end up having a fun time. Bless you sweet girl for being so brave and giving other people encouragement. ❤️😊👍👏👏Great job. It will get easier the more you do it.
I agree, she was so brave to step out of her comfort zone like that, and I bet next time it may be a little easier, because of the positive experience she had this time, and while she may always be introverted, this will help her to overcome it when she needs to, so she does not lose out on such amazing, fun experiences.
Precious little Mary Carl was having a little panic attack and what a great Daddy! Assurance is 100% the best medicine. She's just a little bit of a recluse and hearing from the other recluse in the family that it was going to be okay did the trick!

Just have to say, at 82, I'm going to start on an adventure of 8" of woodchips gardening and just felt led to mention this to you because you have mentioned besides vegetables, you are interested in flower raising. I watched Back to Eden gardening for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it makes sooooo much sense to me. I hope it will to you, too. Weeds always rush to cover bare ground. God made it that way. My goodness, would not you have thought I would have realized that before age 82. No. It had to be a revelation from another God fearing person that I was just ready to hear. Brooke and Jason, you underestimate your charms! I know nothing about farming or raising animals or growing vegetables but I enjoy learning from you both. I think it’s that you are completely genuine and just who you are. People who live comfortably in their own skin are appealing no matter what life style they choose. Sometimes the most powerful thing we teach others is just to follow your dreams and stick with it. That kind of encouragement that comes through just being yourselves is the most effective.
Chad @adlerfarms said something the other day about himself. He is who we see and I believe you are truly who you are and what we see and that is what’s drawing your audience.

Schnauzers are Highly versatile, they're good hunters and have been used as retrievers both on land and in the water. They're also excellent herders of sheep and cattle, one of their original jobs as an all-around farm dog. In fact, many Standard Schnauzers have earned American Kennel Club (AKC) herding titles.

Both of our chicken coops are made from old children's play houses. Our children are grown and we just reinforced the building and added nest boxes and roosts. Then, when we needed a 2nd coop, we found another play house on craig's list and had it delivered to our yard by a tow truck. We worked with what we had and they are both great.

My mother used to tell me that that person that acts like they're so much better than you puts their pants on one leg at a time just like I do.
If you like that kind of oats, you ought to try the 6 grain rolled cereal at Echo Hill in Frackville, PA. It's a menonnite store, and they have awesome stuff. They have a website, but it just lists some of the stuff they sell. You have to call them to order. The "cereal" has rolled oats, spelt, wheat, rye, barley and kamut mixed together. It's awesome! I live in Florida, but I order from Echo Hill and get it mailed.

You know...I am a big country music fan and have lots of artists that I love to listen to. That being said, there isn't one of them I would go stand in line and wait to see in concert. I WOULD, however, stand in line to meet the dancing farmer and Mrs. Cog Hill and listen to yo'all speak! Wish I wasn't on the other side of the US - I would have been there!

Don’t know if you 2 realise how you helped many of us through our various lockdowns with your sense of humour and all your animals and antics, especially the dancing. Wow. Your lifted our spirits.
Everybody has to start somewhere. Your story is just that and now it's evolved to where you are now. Most people go to events to learn how to get started and your thought process on how to expand little by little. In our minds we think it has to be the full blown farm! It started with a bucket in the back yard of a rental house or patio of an apartment. The process is what tells people, I can do this! The vendors are showing what they do. Speakers are telling how they started and expanded little by little each year. Everybody starts from nothing, they were kids living at home, graduated from high school, went to trade school or college, got a job and began life. So just tell your story. I love watching your progress. Never stop dreaming.
