It looks like a fun kit to install but the issues you told about had me worried. Maybe one day I will try on a console that has a dead CD player. Thanks for the great video, as always.
I'm glad you had the same problem I had with my SD Loader and showed it in the video. My SD Loader refused to sit on my CPU no matter how hard I pressed. After fiddling around for a few hours, I broke the lifted pin off the Bios chip by mistake and then I just gave up. I had to give it to Cruzlink to get it fixed, he shaved a bit off the silicon on top of the Bios chip to expose enough metal to solder a new wire to it, and then replaced the connector on the SD Loader with a new one, and then used hot glue also so make sure it would never come off by mistake. Works perfectly now. Also I would like to just put it out there that the SD loader has some sound issues with some game dumps that are available at the moment. So some games will need to be redumped and/or tweaked for them to work properly with the SD Loader.

This might be just the thing to get me to drag my Neo CD out of storage. Seems like a really cool mod. Although it might be weird to say this, I'm glad it still has a bit of load time. One of my problems with the Neo CD emulators is that they eliminate the load time so completely that you never get to see the funny and interesting loading screens that SNK put their time into.
Awesome, I love to see you doing more home console stuff. Your tutorials are pretty great and I don't personally think there's enough good ones out there for home consoles.
Nacho, since you said you like it when a console can use your original collection + SD ODEs, I would recommend checking out the new Sega Saturn switcher by Will's Console Mods. It lets you put a Fenrir/Phoebe ODE in your Sega Saturn while still using the disc drive.
I followed this video and did this modification a few months ago. It brings the console to life and works extremely well. I have read before that people have broken the pin on the I.C at 6.06 in this video. I understand why as this is very delicate and also around 30 years old. I didn’t lift my pin to a very steep angle but once soldered I put Kapton tape between the two soldered joints as an insulator. There was a gap but I just wanted to be sure there wasn’t a short. Maximum respect to Tito, these videos are really comprehensive and easy to follow. Without his hard work on these videos these mods would be so much harder.
I got a top loader when it came out.. trust me, being 17 and having NeoGeo games in your house was a dream come true. The load times weren’t even an issue, I honestly have no recollection being annoyed or moaning about it. The NeoCD was a very clever move by SNK that made NeoGeo titles affordable to a wider audience. Just take the NeoCD for what it is.. a great product of its time that did it’s job :)
When I was younger, I ended up getting Neo Geo CDZ (not much faster unfortunately) when it came out. I didn't care how slow either, considering how expensive the cartridge system was. Few yrs later. eventually I got the proper system. I remember pre-ordering the limited USA AES conversion of Mark of the Wolves & playing the hack out of it. The memories...
These kinds of mods are really going to be a live saver if they become available for more consoles as they too start to have cd drive failures down the road. I really love how it also lets you play through the disc drive after installing the mod which is the best choice that other mods need toallow for other systems!
Top quality video, music on point, clearly instructions. Been following for a while Tito, your videos are clearly at a higher level, im gonna stay here to see all the good things that are gonna happen to your channel!
That is a very well done mod. Attention to detail. The more I do the more I think reversibility should be required you never know when something better might come along or some thing doesn't work it's really annoying to tear something apart and put it back together and find out that much if you put in didn't work.
Awesome video! I repaired my original US CD system using a CD drive from a replacement Japanese CD system. And that was after replacing the lens once before. I definitely want to get the donor system running too. Have been looking into the Furtek SD loader.
I'm the guy in the discord that added a ton of hot glue on top of the chip to hold more downward pressure on the mod. This will work if you have a loose connection due to the loose connector.
@@MachoNachoProductions Oh he did, I ended up having to use both lol. I was getting bad chip dumps until I put extreme pressure on the connector. I believe he has since updated the connector to one that fits better.
Would love to see this kit made for the Neo Geo CDZ. That system had double speed disc loader and I also believe it had more system ram. Really cool mod for a great system, best version of Metal Slug 1 is on the CD.
I owned a top loader. I remember it quite fondly. It was playable, but only after it taught you patience. The overall quality of the games made it worth the squeeze. One of a hundred things I should have kept.
Haha, true, I’m sure it was a great teacher of patience. The games are incredible for sure and they quality to me is indistinguishable to MVs and AES. It’s a great console for sure 👍
@@MachoNachoProductions There were a few differences. Some games would lose a few animation frames to help speed up loading. See Mai Shirinui's P-Power super in Real Bout Special for an example. Other games, mostly fighters, would sometimes have an option of only using one stage for all fights in 2P mode, only loading new character sprites. You sometimes had the option to turn off cutscenes or make character select screens a simple list rather than graphical. Older/smaller games loaded very quickly, sometimes even only once. It's mostly stuff you really only noticed if you were hardcore about it. At one point I owned all three systems. (MVS, AES, CD) The NEO•GEO is my all time favourite system.
This mod is fantastic bc it's non-soldering and keeps the CD drive. The irony is if you want to play Neo Geo games from an SD card, for most people it will make more sense to get a MiSTer with Furrtek's Neo Geo core. Unless you already own a Neo Geo CD it won't be more expensive
Fantastic video as always. Love this mode makes this into a very useable console. I knew the cdrom was slow but good god didn't realize it was more fun watching paint dry tjen6tje game load.
I was speaking with Mena of Phenom Mon and apparently the file he provided only allows you to build it but not alter the design. It is partially open source from what I understand.
@@MachoNachoProductions Interesting, from what Bob had said on RetroRGB, I had gotten the idea that it was completely out there for anyone to hack at but, if that is not the case, I stand corrected, thanks. :)
@@MachoNachoProductions That's a shame. The mod is pretty good as it is but with so many talented people out there, we might have even seen some better down the line if they were able to make their own changes.
Given that the schematics are GPL v3, where’s Mena’s source files for their changes? They’re derivative work, so either they didn’t make any changes to them, in which case they’re following the license, or they made some changes and aren’t following it.
You forgot to close JP1 for the LED! Hehe. To all viewers: CLOSE jumper JP1 on the SD card PCB. And also if you aren't bothering retaining CD drive functionality, you can skip pads X, Y, and Z, but that's just a minor note. Good timing, with the whole Saudi Arabia SNK news. Seeing the loading times side-by-side really drives home how much of a difference it is. It *felt* fast, but seeing them like this was just mind-blowing. You didn't mention foam when you said what came with the kit. Did we forget foam? :O For the systems that short against the AV shielding: I recommend a double layer of kapton as the last installation I did worked fine with a single layer but as soon as client received it, it failed! A second layer and he was up and running. Be careful calling that yellow wire a ground wire! Might make some folks be careless with it. That wire is not a ground wire and has a pretty high voltage on it! Also, we toyed with the idea of a flex cable or similar. The reality is it would increase the cost of the kit very significantly. Furrtek never released board files, only a Gerber, so it's not easy to tweak his design (which sucks tbh), and we'd have to incorporate a flex or other solution into the Loader as-is essentially. Love your videos as always, brother. Glad you finally got up and running! I'm immortalized in this video now thanks to the Discord screenshot! 🤣
So glad you enjoyed the video! It’s an incredible kit! I can’t believe I forgot the JP1 jumper 🙃 I’ll make a pinned comment! Holy cow, I thought that was a ground wire, actually makes a lot more sense that power runs through it. Yeah I just heard the news about the new ownership of SNK. That’s a crazy coincidence 😅 Totally under the flex cable may not be feasible. Again, thank you for making this kit available! You are doing a tremendous service to the retro community! Cheers!
@@MachoNachoProductions haha the LED is mostly useful when you're first setting up just to see if you're BIOS is getting dumped, verified, and patched successfully. It's not really important other than that! (But I still like it regardless!) And I always enjoy every single one of your videos! Great stuff, always! I just built a GBHD Color recently that I would have never known about if not for your video about Gamebox's kits! I got a DMG kit waiting for me to install too! A flex cable would be super nice. Mena made a quick design of some sort. I also had some ideas based off of something Dan (citrus3000psi) showed off some years ago. The closest we got was trying to make adapters/QSB-type things to be able to use regular FPC ribbons like the one included with the kit, but ultimately there wasn't one with enough connections in it! The socket we found is _much, much_ better I believe and I recommend most folks at least give their 68k a nice scrubbing with a qtip and IPA before even beginning the install. Reflow may or may not be necessary but I'd at least try to get some oxidation off with the qtip. To be completely fair, I also thought that was a ground wire! It wasn't until I was trying to repair a broken NGCD until I learned otherwise. I was tracing out power rails and measuring voltages and trying to see why some of my rails were really low. It wouldn't power on, and it was just working right before! I had to learn a LOT about this console. Apparently the yellow wire has a higher voltage and when you press the power button, it pulls that yellow wire down to ground and that signals the voltage regulators to turn on/send power to the motherboard, from what I gathered. My yellow wire wasn't being pulled all the way down. Then I discovered I had a pin on the ribbon connector for the controller board only sometimes having continuity with the motherboard end. Console would power on when continuity was present. Turned out to ht the ground pin, the way that the controller board was tied into the system's ground! Turns out the pin in the ribbon connector was slightly bent. I bent it back into shape, power switch pulled yellow wire to 0 V, and console booted! I was worried once I learned it had live voltage; I was like "oh crap, what if one of those times I so carelessly left that wire flopping around it shorted something out?!?" lol so I'm glad it was as simple as a bent pin. I guess it didn't know what ground was so it was pulling it down to an arbitrary floating value instead! And the voltage regulator's output is like inversely proportional to the voltage on the yellow wire: the more you pull it closer to ground, the higher the regulator seems to output, with 0v on yellow equalling full/normal power out the regulator, so this is why I had a low, but not 0v output of my regulator! This console and this whole project has certainly been an adventure!!! It is quite an amazing mod overall and while it does have some quirks, Mena has proven he's willing to go above and beyond to help users and provide great customer support and we want to be sure everyone can get up and running! Next on the horizon from Phenom Mod is a batch of Wii HDMI kits and maybe some day some front-loader Neo SD Loader kits! You the man, Tito, and I'm honored to even have a 0.5 second screenshot of my Discord username 🤣. I'm very much looking forward to one of your potential(?) (unsure if it's a definite thing yet) upcoming videos! I don't know if it's a secret, so I don't want to spoil anything, but the one hint I'll leave is that it involves something very tiny ;) Keep up the great work! Hopefully we can get some awesome Nacho Nacho vids for many years to come. It's cool seeing the console stuff on your channel now too and not just the handhelds and other stuff! I really wanna get one of those Save the Hero things you featured to make cartridge battery swapping without losing saves easier! Take it easy, man! Maybe you'll feel like doing a Wii HDMI video :p
Thanks Tito for such a great video once again. Finished the NeoSD mod last night and what a night and day difference with the load times. The extra options are also welcome in the menus. For those that tackle this mod, I recommend good magnification like SUNJOYCO glasses for the pin lift on the rom and a fine tip on your iron. Helps to see the lifted pin in 3D. Tito makes it look easy 😆. I also cleaned up the 68k pins real good with IPA before applying the board to the cpu, and I would have the motherboard on a flat surface so it doesn't flex. Mad props to Furrtek and of course Phenom Mod for stocking these.
Thanks for this. I guess I have one of the older ones and it never has worked (and I couldn’t get any tech support.) you gave me a few things to check before giving up.
I've had a NGCD for about 5 years now. Yeah the loading times suck, but the only time I saw load times THAT long was when my CD drive was failing. Still, Furrtek is a legend.
there are still tonnes of neo geo titles still in arcade cabinets all over the world. stood the test of time in the big market but but never really cracked the home market.
Great video, I am so happy to see this exists, I picked up a NEO GEO CD in Japan in 2012 and have been waiting for something like this, I have an MVS cab too so usually opt for the instant load times. Is there a way to modify AES roms to work on a NEO GEO CD SD Loader? There are a few good titles that didn't make it to the CD version.
Edu, I'm glad to see you here! I love to watch old consoles been modified to get playable again nowadays! Tito's videos is a glimpse to retrogamers. Abraços do Brasil!...
A word of warning to others, at 7:43 the part where you connect the CDA cable to the SD loader: I have 3 NGCD consoles and on each on the CDA cable is too short to complete that step. I ended up cutting it and extending it by soldering extra wire onto it. Edit: I noticed in Furrtek's instructions he mentions this issue: "On some models of the console, the CDDA wires may be too short to be plugged directly into the loader. In this case, solder 3 lengths of wire from the CDDA connector pads on the CDA board to the unpopulated CDDA connector on the other end of the loader board. Make sure that the order of the wires matches the order of the original wire bundle !"
It's my biggest issue with most of the ODEs, that you have to flat out remove the optical drive to install them. It's especially painful for systems like the Dreamcast where the optical drive/disks were unique so you would need another Dreamcast just to legally dump your game collection in the first place to use in an ODE.
Anyone doing this mod, I suggest using a nylon scratch pen to clean the pins on the CPU before snapping on the SD loader to it, I do this same process when installing bios adapters on the Neogeo MVS MV1B and MV1C PCBs.
Great video as always Tito! Agreed that the mod is reversable, but it's not quite "no-cut", there was a peg cut inside if I remember correctly. Certainly no difference externally though! Also, your Retro Renew intro has been changed for a couple videos. Kinda miss the old one, but also enjoying this one. Really torn! 😅
Hey Maciben! That’s true, I think I forgot about that when drafting the script but dude realize it when I was editing the video. Yeah, I noticed that video retention falls during the intro and I was thinking it could be because it was too long. I’ve done a couple videos with a shorter version to see if there’s a difference. Cheers!
Only on the brown fuzzy shielding version! The metal shielding version requires no cutting. Stay tuned to our Discord for stock updates! Right now parts shortage is unfortunately making this unfeasible.
This mod is genius. Usually mods like this required u to solder directly to the chip and if your like me and don't have much soldering exp this would mean u couldn't do the mod, but using that socket to mount on top off the chip instead means this mod is acceptable to a lot more ppl. I wish there was a mod like this for the n64 and gamecube.
I've wanted one of these since I was a kid and now that I'm a baller adult maybe I'll pick one up. been getting into soldering again with keyboards so this could be fun
Cool video. Above my skill level, but fun to watch. Just curious about the socket connecting over the 68000 chip. Is it actually interacting with the chip, or just using it to hold the board in place? And are there any heat worries covering the chip like this?
The 68K doesn't really get that hot. No worries about heat! NeoBiosMasta has been around for a long time and has used this same approach. No issues reported over the years.
I would like to mention that the Neo Geo CD only has about 90+ titles compared to the cartridge based systems. Still worth it. I have 3 systems with 3 NeoSD Loaders. You also didn't mention anything about the menu system and cheats similar to the UNIbios.
Yeah it's nowhere near as much but there some quality MVS conversions and homebrew. It's definitely not the same as a traditional Neo Geo but it's for sure a much cheaper way to get into it... When parts shortage doesn't ruin everything...
Try playing the early low meg games on original CD... they run fine. This mod is fine for the people who haven't got original AES/MVS hardware .. or legit NeoCD discs I guess... just rom sets.
It wasnt a failure, i had my Neo Geo CD imported to to the UK in 1994 before the PS1 was even out in Japan. The sound on the Neo CD was amazing, nothing could beat or even match it in its day and yes i had the MVS version before this in 1992 but was way too expensive to run.
Yes it was a failure. From a sales and market-share perspective, it never sold enough to even break 1% of the market. Just because you personally imported and bought one doesn't change that fact. The Neo Geo CD was released in September 94 and couldn't compete against the hype that was already surrounding the Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation which both released in November and December of that same year..
@@MrRobarino Lol i bet you had a Sega megadrive or Supernes didnt you? I skipped both of these and went for a Neo Geo coming from an Amiga 500 which pissed all over those 89 bit consoles. As a Hardcorer gamer it was a success. Go look at Samurai Showdown or Viewpoint on the Ps1 or Saturn and compare to the Neo Geo. Neo trumps them both.
The socket connection is reliable if you use a proper socket with enhanced strenght (Amiga 600 CPU/RAM expansions are made that way). What may help further is something that will lock the PCB on CPU, but i don't know if it is possible here. Good thing you mentioned a solder may crack on CPU, althought it's a rare occurence. Spraying pins with Isopropyl alcohol and plugging socket "on wet" also helps getting good connection.
Unplayable is a bit harsh, I played a fair bit with it before actually installing this mod. The chief reason for doing it, was for convenience, ODEs beat fumbling around looking for are I put my CDs. This way I can keep the CDs in their cases nice and tiddy.
@@DavideNastri One title in a sea of 90ish. Three if you also count The Last Blade 1 & 2 which, admittedly, does have some bad loading. Everything else is more than manageable, often only requiring one load and the rest is good to go. Most of these games would play no differently if they were on a PS1, 3DO or Saturn. Every CD console has to load, that's just a fact of life.
@@SkyScourgeGod Strongly disagreed. A few titles are more than fine but more "modern" ones are just pain. Imho any kof after 96 is just unplayable. Check art of fighting 3... You have many online charts showing loading times around (and more) than one minute PER ROUND. World hero 2 jet (old) is... 40 seconds per round? Not acceptable. Install neo SD loader and you will see what your neo geo cd is capable of. Perfection, loading times are close to zero, always. Ps1 loading times, compared to a normal ngcd are zero. Ngcd has 1x cd, the slowest of the bunch. Also had 56 mbit window of RAM to load into that just made it worse from loading perspective than any saturn or ps1. More than my opinion this is... The planet's opinion on the topic.
@@DavideNastri I admire your conviction. I agree that those load times were entirely too long, even in the context of the mid-90s. Today? Completely unacceptable. Sounds like this is the product you've been waiting for!

@@MachoNachoProductions :D Tito, allow me to ask... What do you use to play neo geo games? The pads are imho not great and very very often broken since the nineties...
I got my Neo Geo AES system in 1991. Sure, games were $300/each... so maybe you didn't get one as often as a Genesis or SNES game, but hey... it was definitely worth it to have an actual arcade game in your home. The CD version did get released later and yes, it was horrible. I had one briefly and got rid of it a.s.a.p. - I still have an AES system today a long with a collection of games. Lots of people are content with merely playing "teh r0mz"... but there's nothing like owning(and playing) the actual hardware.
10:12 "But unfortunately couldn't capture this on camera" - This part is the worst part of the install. Ordered a kit this week and they still do not have a long enough ribbon cable to make this process very easy at all, plus you need to twist the ribbon cable. There has to be a better solution to this! Also there are a couple board revisions that completely change the orientation of how the ODE is directed so it can vary a little bit from this video. The two that I've done so far are not the version in this video and don't have nearly as long of a 3 pin cable to work with either, requires much more finesse.

Yeah now the thing is to find one, its going to be very tough, they never are in stock and rarely evailable when it does
Lembro do Neo Geo Cd nas locadoras, apesar do seu carregamento demorado era um console fantástico na época. Parabéns ótimo vídeo
Totally agree, for the time, what it did was fantastic
Yep 20 times faster than an 8-bit home computer loading from cassette!
Most complaints about loading times are often exaggerated, there are a few that yeah are super slow, but not everything is that slow
@@MachoNachoProductions I just wish they've put more RAM into it, so it could have more ports from mvs/aes
Awesome video Tito! I managed to get one from Furtek last year but not installed it yet. Your guide has been invaluable. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Hopefully the video will help you for your installation 😁
Please do the install!
It will just transform the way you enjoy neo geo games.
Jewellery.
Top quality video, music on point, clearly instructions. Been following for a while Tito, your videos are clearly at a higher level, im gonna stay here to see all the good things that are gonna happen to your channel!
Thank you so much 🙏! I’m so happy you’re enjoying channel buddy! Cheers!
I like my Neo CD, I added a region switch to mine to change the language in games. I been waiting for the SD loader for a while.
You’ll love the sd loader
Awesome video, glad it hit my recommended list! Good production quality
Glad your'e making a video for this. I just purchased one of these and need to get around to installing it so this is a nice bit of motivation.
Nice!
And it's here 😺 I have a decent person to follow now when installing my SD loader I have been saving to install into my Neo Geo Cd thanks brother ❤️
I'm the guy in the discord that added a ton of hot glue on top of the chip to hold more downward pressure on the mod. This will work if you have a loose connection due to the loose connector.
I think furrtek utilized a foam pad to put pressure when he sold the kit. I suppose hot glue could work also 😅
@@MachoNachoProductions Oh he did, I ended up having to use both lol.
Also broke a lot faster than the other two
it doesn't have more ram for games only for the cd rom to load faster but it overheats as hell and it's not easy to rapair
(MVS, AES, CD)
The NEO•GEO is my all time favourite system.
it teaches you Jedi-like patience... you'll be able to wait for anything after you wait for Real Bout to load on the neo geo cd
@@Shiro128b Sengoku is one.
This mod is fantastic bc it's non-soldering and keeps the CD drive. The irony is if you want to play Neo Geo games from an SD card, for most people it will make more sense to get a MiSTer with Furrtek's Neo Geo core. Unless you already own a Neo Geo CD it won't be more expensive
some of those original PS1 and Saturn games had some pretty hefty load times as well
Fantastic video as always. Love this mode makes this into a very useable console. I knew the cdrom was slow but good god didn't realize it was more fun watching paint dry tjen6tje game load.
Thank you kill-9 🙏. Haha true, watching paint dry might be more fun 😂. It’s pretty crazy how long the load times are
Great video as always, just a note on the ending, Furrtek did make it open source, which is the reason why Mena was able to pick it up and produce it.
Yeah I was speaking to Mena who owns Phenom Mod and he said the files that furrtek provides aren’t enough to be fully considered open source.
I love the fact that the ground cable connects to a pin named land
You forgot to close JP1 for the LED! Hehe. To all viewers: CLOSE jumper JP1 on the SD card PCB. And also if you aren't bothering retaining CD drive functionality, you can skip pads X, Y, and Z, but that's just a minor note.
Good timing, with the whole Saudi Arabia SNK news. Seeing the loading times side-by-side really drives home how much of a difference it is. It *felt* fast, but seeing them like this was just mind-blowing.
You didn't mention foam when you said what came with the kit. Did we forget foam? :O
For the systems that short against the AV shielding: I recommend a double layer of kapton as the last installation I did worked fine with a single layer but as soon as client received it, it failed!
That’s a crazy coincidence 😅
Totally under the flex cable may not be feasible.
(But I still like it regardless!)
And I always enjoy every single one of your videos!
I don't know if it's a secret, so I don't want to spoil anything, but the one hint I'll leave is that it involves something very tiny ;)
Keep up the great work!
"This is a no-cut mod", proceeds to chop off an standoff.
Always impressed with your production value, keep it up!
Awesome video Tito. You're my go-to mod guy. You make these mods look easy.🤙
Great video as always! Thank you for the all the content you make!
Thank you for watching 🙏☺️
I've had a NGCD for about 5 years now. Yeah the loading times suck, but the only time I saw load times THAT long was when my CD drive was failing. Still, Furrtek is a legend.
Tito just makes everything look so slick in his videos it makes me want to immediately work on a project.
Thank you Red 🙏☺️
THIS!
there are still tonnes of neo geo titles still in arcade cabinets all over the world. stood the test of time in the big market but but never really cracked the home market.
Great video Tito. I can finally use my poor man's neogeo to the fullest potential. :))))
Thank you! Yes, this kit makes all the difference 😁
I remember the first time I saw one... Also the last one 🤣 amazing work
Edu, I'm glad to see you here! I love to watch old consoles been modified to get playable again nowadays! Tito's videos is a glimpse to retrogamers. Abraços do Brasil!...
Thank you so much 🙏 glad you enjoyed the video!

Those press fit sockets really look like something magic when they are not faulty ^^
Yeah, it can be a bit fiddly but it definitely makes the mod easier
A word of warning to others, at 7:43 the part where you connect the CDA cable to the SD loader: I have 3 NGCD consoles and on each on the CDA cable is too short to complete that step. I ended up cutting it and extending it by soldering extra wire onto it.
Edit: I noticed in Furrtek's instructions he mentions this issue:
"On some models of the console, the CDDA wires may be too short to be plugged directly into the loader.
In this case, solder 3 lengths of wire from the CDDA connector pads on the CDA board to the unpopulated CDDA connector on the other end of the loader board.
Make sure that the order of the wires matches the order of the original wire bundle !"
Love that it keeps the CD drive! We need more sd loader mods that do this.
It's my biggest issue with most of the ODEs, that you have to flat out remove the optical drive to install them. It's especially painful for systems like the Dreamcast where the optical drive/disks were unique so you would need another Dreamcast just to legally dump your game collection in the first place to use in an ODE.
Loading in a tape on a c64 was even more painful. Keeping my neogeo cd stock though great tips!
I’ve never played on a c64, I can only imaging the load times 😅
I remember seeing the long load times of the Neo Geo CD while watching Episode 11 of High Score Girl on Netflix.
AT 14:23 except the part where you snipped off a stand off piece. XD
Excellent video Tito, thank you for sharing!
Thank you watching! So glad you enjoyed it 😁
This mod is genius.
How the hell do you not have way more subscribers!?!?
I've wanted one of these since I was a kid and now that I'm a baller adult maybe I'll pick one up. been getting into soldering again with keyboards so this could be fun
This guy is the best soldering tech I've ever seen!
By the time that game loaded from the CD, you could cook you up a batch of your own ramen noodles and join that guy on the screen. lol
If I had a Neo Geo CD, I'd love this. Seems like the best of all ODE features and no cut. Oh and it's not 200 bucks.
That all sounds pretty amazing. Only one problem though. You can't get these anymore from the official source.....
I hadn't heard of this console until a few months ago. It's 5 years older than me.
Cool video. Above my skill level, but fun to watch. Just curious about the socket connecting over the 68000 chip. Is it actually interacting with the chip, or just using it to hold the board in place? And are there any heat worries covering the chip like this?
Thank you! It is actually connecting to the chip. As far as I know there isn’t any issues cause by heat
The 68K doesn't really get that hot. No worries about heat! NeoBiosMasta has been around for a long time and has used this same approach. No issues reported over the years.
The graphics output from this NeoGeo CD is fabulous when connected to a LCD monitor via a OSSC. Even better than a AES or MVS system
Can you tell more about such setup? Is that rgb output?
odes are a godsend. While emulation offers a similar experience, the ability to hook up a console, power it on and play make it worth the hassle.
Completely agree, they are a game changer!
I'd call that an ode to an ODE.
I like the little dude munching on Ramen on the load screen. You don't see that on other consoles.
Furrtek c’est le meilleur !!! ✌️🕹 c’est du beau boulot 🙂
My compliments, beautiful and instructive video. Got a new subscriber.
Thank you!
I would like to mention that the Neo Geo CD only has about 90+ titles compared to the cartridge based systems. Still worth it. I have 3 systems with 3 NeoSD Loaders. You also didn't mention anything about the menu system and cheats similar to the UNIbios.
That’s true, there are some other awesome features I didn’t dive into. It’s such a great kit, and I may have to do a follow up.
Yeah it's nowhere near as much but there some quality MVS conversions and homebrew. It's definitely not the same as a traditional Neo Geo but it's for sure a much cheaper way to get into it... When parts shortage doesn't ruin everything...
@@MachoNachoProductions If you decide to go through with that idea Tito. I say be my guest.
@@RastaJediX
MVS conversions?
Which ones?
Tasty!
13:03 why is the loader bar for SD is green while for CD it’s orange?
Try playing the early low meg games on original CD... they run fine.
This mod is fine for the people who haven't got original AES/MVS hardware .. or legit NeoCD discs I guess... just rom sets.
Great video man! It inspires me to buy some broken game stuff and try to do some soddering/repair
14:22 Except for cutting that knub. 9:55 Lol.🤘😁
Almost forgot I had one of these tucked away somewhere and a bunch of games.
@@v3teran75 i love all those platforms, but perhaps for different games :D
The socket connection is reliable if you use a proper socket with enhanced strenght (Amiga 600 CPU/RAM expansions are made that way). What may help further is something that will lock the PCB on CPU, but i don't know if it is possible here. Good thing you mentioned a solder may crack on CPU, althought it's a rare occurence. Spraying pins with Isopropyl alcohol and plugging socket "on wet" also helps getting good connection.
The original CD load time advantage is it teaches you about patience.
Out of curiosity, does the SD Loader also let you play AES games on the NGCD given how identical the base is?
I just got a Neo Geo CD (can't afford the AES). I wouldn't change her for the world. Unplayable is NOT the word I use.
Which controller are you using? curious
Unplayable is a bit harsh, I played a fair bit with it before actually installing this mod. The chief reason for doing it, was for convenience, ODEs beat fumbling around looking for are I put my CDs. This way I can keep the CDs in their cases nice and tiddy.
Unplayable may have been a bit harsh 😅
I agree with unplayable.
Every tried kof99?
@@DavideNastri One title in a sea of 90ish. Three if you also count The Last Blade 1 & 2 which, admittedly, does have some bad loading. Everything else is more than manageable, often only requiring one load and the rest is good to go. Most of these games would play no differently if they were on a PS1, 3DO or Saturn. Every CD console has to load, that's just a fact of life.
@@SkyScourgeGod
Strongly disagreed.
A few titles are more than fine but more "modern" ones are just pain.
Imho any kof after 96 is just unplayable.

Today? Completely unacceptable.

man those load times holy crap, how did this thing make it to market like that wow.
It’s crazy right?! 😅
my uncle used to have a neogeo, i remember telling my friends about this large console in my uncle's house with big-ass 6-inch cartridges that has graphics that look way better than the home consoles at the time and nobody believed me
Let's be honest, micro-sd changed our lives lol. I did this mod to my PlayStation and my Dreamcast, so much difference then running optical disks.
So this is what Furrtek has been working on? Nice
"this is a no cut mod"
“cut off this standoff"
Hmm? Lol
This kit is the best one I ever put in a console.
The design is delightful (the sd coming out of the tiny vent is... Insane, made me laugh) and Furrtek is a genius.
Totally agree it’s fantastic!

Tito, allow me to ask...
What do you use to play neo geo games?
The pads are imho not great and very very often broken since the nineties...
@@DavideNastri the AES stick or a Brook adapter =)
@@RastaJediX
Brook is a nice idea...
I use the saturn2neogeo and it is another life :)
FYI: Most Neo Geo CD games have perfectly fine loading times which are comparable with many PSX games.
Amazing mod. Might hunt one console to do this mod
Totally worth it 👍
10:12 "But unfortunately couldn't capture this on camera" - This part is the worst part of the install.
That an Apple Studio Display in the background now? Instead of the 2 LED/Thunderbolt Displays?
You have a keen eye sir 😁😉
@@MachoNachoProductions It takes up so much elss sapce than the 2 displays. I really liked the LED displays styleings... was always looking toa cquire on of them for my Mac Pro never could find a good one that wasnt one of the thunderbolt versions.

Good video. I don't imagine this mod supports the Neo Geo CDZ? Do you have any info regarding that? Thanks
Nevermind. You answered that question. I'll look into it
One cool mode along the same lines that could be cool would be just to put a faster cd drive, or load the cds into the SD cards.
You should try watching the videos before you comment to them. Loading the CDs from SD card is exactly what its about, you genius,
