      It's really a shame that they made it that expensive only because the Neo Geo stuff is expensive as well. That's intended and something you can also note with other systems like the Amiga. If the base stuff is expensive, add-ons are made very expensive as well. This should be way under 200 bucks - but it's apparently aimed at elite people with big pockets. They missed the opportunity to open Neo Geo games to a wider audience with that premium price.

      @txcforever 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@NerdyShawn Well the difference is the PS5 will get normal pricing in a couple of months when the production gets up to speed. This will only get more expensive as people keep collecting NEO GEO Stuff.

      @@_derSammler Neo Geo stuff were always expensive unfortunately. Just an MVS to AES converter would sell for well over $200+, so they priced this accordingly.

    The weird limitations on the Neo Geo PCM channels weren't specifically decided by SNK btw they're just how the Yamaha 2610 sound chip was designed. It was a "kitchen sink" sound chip that has PCM, 4 operator FM and PSG channels all in one device.

    I'm one of those that likes playing on real hardware but don't necessarily care about having the actual cartridges. Considering you can spend $500 for a single MVS cart, the price isn't that bad if you are committed to the system.

      Maybe you would prefer the synopsis of Strikers 1945 Plus instead?
      It is winter of 1945 and the Strikers have successfully eliminated C.A.N.Y.'s forces. The fierce fight was considered a militarist coup d'état disapproving the acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration. The threat posed by C.A.N.Y. enshrouded the world in the shadow of war. Meanwhile, data on C.A.N.Y.'s new weapons, tightly sealed by the US Department of Defense was leaked by a new organization, codenamed "F.G.R.", threatening to drag the world into the chaos of war once again with it. Upon learning of the situation, the Strikers, who had been appointed as a new weapons development experimental unit, were convened once again as protectors of the world!
      It has since received a re-release by Hamster Corporation, a Japanese video game publisher, with office located in Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan, in recent years on digital distribution platforms. Hamster.

    Samurai Spirits RPG is available in French. I know two attempts to translate it into English and one into Spanish that went beyond 50% completion, but apparently it's really hard to edit because the way the text is encrypted in the game, and the teams just couldn't keep throwing hours into it. If the game was truly gem it would pay off, but beyond those nice graphics and sound, the game is no Chrono Trigger. The plot doesn't bring anything new to your typical mid 90s JRPG, and the game is quite difficult and grindy. At least the combat system is original so, it well deserves a gameplay for hardcore fans of both JRPGs and Samurai Shodown.

But if I could, I would have all the systems and their respective flash cartridges. The NeoSD Pro is a perfectly justifiable expense for a channel like Game Sack. It is out of my price range, but I would love to have a device like this. Really liked the end of the episode.

    • @brandonkick
      @brandonkick 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The price tag though, IMO, is not warranted.
      If Krikkz can release the Mega EverDrive PRO for $199 and have it not only be pretty much the best Genesis flash cart that exists, but also a damn solid FPGA implementation of the Sega CD..... why is TerraOnion justified in charging $600+ for this.
      Is the hardware involved really that expensive? I don't know enough about it to know. I feel in part, they charge that much just because they can.

    • @marcos_janauba
      @marcos_janauba 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brandonkick There are way, way more potential customers for the Mega EverDrive PRO. I am sure the production of the NeoSD Pro is very limited, which doesn't help the price.

    The Lattice LFXP2-5E FPGA retail price is 13.39 usd at mouser, the common flash memory module is around 4 dollars and they are 4, ram goes from 7 to 8 bucks, there is also a second fpga or a micro controller in the board, so ill say the manufacturing cost is around 70 to 80 bucks, but we also have to take in consideration the cost of the software, housing, packeging and distribution cost, so ill say 150 to 160, plus profit i might pay 250 to 300 for it, that's what i can estimate, hope that helps you Joe.

    I have the original NeoSD AES. If I didn't already own that I'd spring for the Pro, but upgrading doesn't seem worth the cost.
    If you're a little cracked and need to play all the Neo Geo games on real hardware, yeah, this is how you're going to want to do it. If you're flat out insane, you could also collect the original cartridges.
    The device has its quirks for sure. I've never run into the audio issue but there have been minor annoyances here and there. I like it.

    Bought an AES over the summer and was looking for one of these, but couldn’t snag one on eBay in time. But I found a Darksoft Multicart which was cheaper than both the NeoSD regular and Pro, so it worked out... especially knowing the one thing I want from the Pro, playing CD games, doesn’t even work with that well with the music (and it’s not like there is a large selection of exclusive CD games)

    The AES console doesn't even cost that much and is much neater. At first I didn't think it was worth it but I got sick of how crap the 161 in 1 carts are and you get a nice shell and case so it looks like the type of thing you would buy in a shop. I like to pretend I'm a rich person from 1992 by playing this. I have always use the ram to load the games, I don't see much point in having flash memory but some people on the neogeo forums insisted that it was the most important thing ever to be able to switch games like in the arcade. I'm currently playing panic bomber, I don't want to rush through all the games so I'm playing the early ones first. Neo geo doesn't have that many games but its not like Genesis which has 20 really crappy NFL games, every game is something that you would want to play. And emulation is pretty good until you get to a game that doesn't work right and those pandora boxes have bad input lag.
