It's really a shame that they made it that expensive only because the Neo Geo stuff is expensive as well. That's intended and something you can also note with other systems like the Amiga. If the base stuff is expensive, add-ons are made very expensive as well. This should be way under 200 bucks - but it's apparently aimed at elite people with big pockets. They missed the opportunity to open Neo Geo games to a wider audience with that premium price.

Maybe you would prefer the synopsis of Strikers 1945 Plus instead?
It is winter of 1945 and the Strikers have successfully eliminated C.A.N.Y.'s forces. The fierce fight was considered a militarist coup d'état disapproving the acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration. The threat posed by C.A.N.Y. enshrouded the world in the shadow of war. Meanwhile, data on C.A.N.Y.'s new weapons, tightly sealed by the US Department of Defense was leaked by a new organization, codenamed "F.G.R.", threatening to drag the world into the chaos of war once again with it. Upon learning of the situation, the Strikers, who had been appointed as a new weapons development experimental unit, were convened once again as protectors of the world!
It has since received a re-release by Hamster Corporation, a Japanese video game publisher, with office located in Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan, in recent years on digital distribution platforms. Hamster.

Samurai Spirits RPG is available in French. I know two attempts to translate it into English and one into Spanish that went beyond 50% completion, but apparently it's really hard to edit because the way the text is encrypted in the game, and the teams just couldn't keep throwing hours into it. If the game was truly gem it would pay off, but beyond those nice graphics and sound, the game is no Chrono Trigger. The plot doesn't bring anything new to your typical mid 90s JRPG, and the game is quite difficult and grindy. At least the combat system is original so, it well deserves a gameplay for hardcore fans of both JRPGs and Samurai Shodown.

The weird limitations on the Neo Geo PCM channels weren't specifically decided by SNK btw they're just how the Yamaha 2610 sound chip was designed. It was a "kitchen sink" sound chip that has PCM, 4 operator FM and PSG channels all in one device.

  • @turbinegraphics16

The AES console doesn't even cost that much and is much neater. At first I didn't think it was worth it but I got sick of how crap the 161 in 1 carts are and you get a nice shell and case so it looks like the type of thing you would buy in a shop. I like to pretend I'm a rich person from 1992 by playing this. I have always use the ram to load the games, I don't see much point in having flash memory but some people on the neogeo forums insisted that it was the most important thing ever to be able to switch games like in the arcade. I'm currently playing panic bomber, I don't want to rush through all the games so I'm playing the early ones first. Neo geo doesn't have that many games but its not like Genesis which has 20 really crappy NFL games, every game is something that you would want to play. And emulation is pretty good until you get to a game that doesn't work right and those pandora boxes have bad input lag.

I like emulators for the ease of use, for being an inexpensive way to play the old systems and for having the best possible image connection available without any problems. But if I could, I would have all the systems and their respective flash cartridges. But I am happy to have a strong PC connected to my CRT monitor just for this function, except for the Nintendo 64 that until today does not play all games perfectly, so I have the console with RGB just for this.

Exceptionally expensive, needlessly tricky to use with lack of support for folders, limited functionality.
I know that emulation vs real hardware is a pointless argument because it misses the point but in this case it's hard to find any benefit to not emulating instead. The value is so poor.

Why by this when you can just by the Neo Geo AES or MVS multi game in one cartridge for 120 bucks? And you don't have to be an I.T Tech genius to learn how to download the games you just plug in and play. This makes no since your paying 4 times the amount of money to play games on your Neo Geo and you have to put in the tech knowledge to download the games

It's like I stated in a previous Game Sack episode not everyone has money stacked to the sky to purchase the actual physical copies of games epsecially Neo Geo games so this makes economical sense.

  • @HiroPlaysGames

I have the original NeoSD AES. If I didn't already own that I'd spring for the Pro, but upgrading doesn't seem worth the cost.
If you're a little cracked and need to play all the Neo Geo games on real hardware, yeah, this is how you're going to want to do it. If you're flat out insane, you could also collect the original cartridges.
The device has its quirks for sure. I've never run into the audio issue but there have been minor annoyances here and there. I like it.

I just purchased the SDPro for my MVS, there are still units to be sold. Thanks for your review, can't wait for it to get here. I was looking into purchasing a fav game cart and just couldn't bring myself to paying a thousand $ for a single game.. This is expensive but a lot less than just a few original games.

I tried Ghost Pilots on the PS4 via the Hamster Neo Geo re-releases, it didn't grab me for some reason. However there are do many games uploaded, I wonder if they're running out of Neo Geo games to add to the service?

I wanted to buy a NeoSD Pro but it's really cost prohibitive. I don't think they'll come down in price so I'll have to either wait to see if Darksoft releases another one with better features and a more competitive price than the TerraOnion one.

(SNK MVS/AES it's considered abandoned, so it's not illegal to homebrew and clone)

@5:20 Samsho Perfect.neo file is out on the internet. Works great even on MiSTer
@7:31 there was apparently this one guy who fully translated the game and refused to release it, and then something about a hard drive failure.
@9:25 this happens on one of my Neo Geo AES consoles using the AES pro. Apparently its a sign of a failure (hopefully not) and also issues with the extra electrical power to power the MVS + the FPGA cart. I even tried testing from the jukebox feature and, no sound on certain memory banks. Plugging the cart to another AES, no problems. AES and MVS are NOT meant to last long unfortunately

So I have a supergun and MV1FZ. Compared with the 161 in 1, how does it stack up? Is the 161 in 1 on original hardware with Unibios 4.0 gonna get me a very similar experience, short of the CD game availability?

  • @skins4thewin

If/when someone produces a Neo Geo flash cart in the $300 dollar range, then I'll bite. There is no way in hell I'm gonna pay $600+ for a flash cart. Not when there are perfectly good 161 in one carts for the Neo Geo for next to nothing. Yeah yeah, they have issues, but you can fix them with some minor modifications.

I understand why it works the way it does, but the loading to Flash and RAM does seem slightly annoying. If I got one though the only games I'd probably end up using it for are KoF 02 and 03 and the last two Metal Slugs. I've gotten basically everything else I actually care about on MVS already over the years, so it's basically perfect for me outside of the price tag.

Question. I have a 4 Slot Neo Geo MVS in my Big Red Cabinet. If I swapped it out with a single slot MVS and used this NeoSD Pro and put 4 games into the flash slots, can I still use the Switch Game button to switch between the 4 games during the attract mode? Or do I have to use the NeoSD Menu display to now switch between the 4 slots?

  • @TurboVolcano1988

I was lucky enough to get the AES Pro version when it first launched. People complain about the price but original Neo Geo carts especially some of the rare titles can go for over $600 alone, so in the end its more than worth it. Terraonion themselves have said that these are too expensive of a product to be sitting around so who knows if they are discontinued or not? You may have a collectors item Joe.

It's one of those things I think the cost to produce is going to WAY below it's price but it's a price you can charge when the games them self's can be more then this 1 flash cart

  • @skins4thewin

I really feel like they'd sell a lot more of these if they could produce a basic version that sells for no more than $300. At that price I would buy one, but for $400 or more it's just too rich for my blood. I have all original Neo Geo AVS hardware as well as a Supergun to play it on a TV, but it's little more than a curiosity for me, not something I'm going to invest big $ into.

I just started watching the channel and after watching a couple of videos I started to wonder about one thing: Are there ANY games at all or specific genres at which the channel author is actually good at?
Multiple times in videos, especially the ones reviewing consoles, he quite often says he "sucks" at this and sucks at that. This game is not for him because of "X" and that one is not for him either because he does not get it etc.
I'm by no means hate here or anything, I'm simply curious why even bother play video games when you don't enjoy most of them it seems xD?

you can buy 44 copies of GreenDog with that much $$$. No really though, if you have an MVS or AES, this is totally worth it. the price of 1 or 2 less popular games, you can have all the games. great video.
