Love this. Just picked up a 70 and fully plan on going this route. Just wondering if I need to go column shifter ? I have a center console shifter on mine.
The conversion had been done a long time ago. From what the owner told me, the top is from a Buick Skylark. The interior panels where modified to fit. They even put what looked to be the factory frame bracing on as well.
Do you have any notes on that wiring on that 70 monte? All the A body should have the same wiring. I'll be doing a 72 chevelle 6.0/4l80 swap coming up soon.
You can purchase all of the parts used in this swap here - zerotosixtyperformance.com/shop/ls-swap-systems/chevrolet/1968-1972-a-body/monte-carlo-ls-swap-kit-as-seen-on-youtube/
Doesn't make too much of a difference. The corvette engine makes more power out of the box. At the end of the day it just comes down to the budget for the swap. If you can afford the more expensive corvette engine, then yes its worth it. However, depending on the price of the engine, you may be able to do a cammed silverado 6l and make more power than the corvette.
I always wanted a convertible 70 MC, looks like a cross in between a chevelle & impala. I have to now 👌🏾
You remember what size wheels it had
Best Monte EVER! Only missing Buckets and Horseshoe shifter center Column.
Beautiful work! About how long did it take you to do/connect all the wiring, tubing, lines, etc. once you got the engine bolted down?
4 weeks

Above the Vintage air unit under the dash. If you pop the dash pad off it is all accessible

Hey bro can you let me know who did the convertible conversion., I want to get my 1972 did like that
The conversion was actually done many many years ago by a guy here in FL. Long before my time unfortunately.
Since when Monte Carlo made convertibles?
The conversion was done quite a few years ago
Is it better to go Silverado or corvette engine? Or does it make a big difference
Doesn't make too much of a difference. The corvette engine makes more power out of the box. At the end of the day it just comes down to the budget for the swap. The conversion was completed many years ago before the current owner purchased it.
That Monte is Nice !! Good work guys!! How long did it take?
Typical swap is roughly 4-6 weeks
How long did you have to make the lines for the transmission
If memory serves me right, we just had a 10' piece of -6an stainless hose.
Do you know what’s the color wire to the ignition hot when I turn the key
How much does it cost to make it a convertible?
The convertible conversion was done locally a long time ago. We did not do the conversion nor is it something we would do here at the shop.
Also? Did you do that convertible cute yourself?
I hope for the $ it doesn't run like a truck lol
How much does a swap like that run $$$
Depending on the engine used the price can vary but the average swap is $16-18k installed
