    Good one. I myself have 4 - 1972 Monte Carlos, which on all I am 2nd owner of. First one of these I bought back in 1975, and drove it everyday for 26 yrs. Which has sat a lot, and am having to replace gas tank this weekend. I even own a Yellow Monte Carlo Custom w/402. Too much to elaborate on here. I have also purchased 2 first gen montes just for parts, so In my apartment I have extra Dash, doors, fenders, a few grilles, and quite a bit more.

    I was a kid in the early 70s and some of my parents' friends and my teachers had Monte Carlos of that generation. I hate that it's so hard to find cars from that era that are not modded until their....um....tail pipes bleed. I love genuine spec restoration!

    I had one of those, maybe a couple of years later, but it had the same body. Same 350 engine. That was a sweet car. I drove it on I-70 west of Denver, over the Continental divide, except instead of going through the Eisenhower tunnel, we drove around it and over the highest peaks. I remember passing a sign that said 13,000 feet elevation and we went up some more before starting back down. That car had plenty of power even up there. The only thing I noticed was it took a little longer to start, no doubt due to the rich mixture. But an all around great car. Most of the cars of the day were of similar size, so that didn't seem different.

    I had one of those. My grandparents bought it new, then my Mom got it then I got it. Yes, it did look great but I like small cars with stick shifts and didn't enjoy driving it much so sold it to some younger guy who had to have it after seeing one on a 'Fast and Furious' movie . If I had a huge warehouse to store stuff I'd have kept it plus many other cars and motorcycles I've had through the years

    • @houseoffolly
      @houseoffolly 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah, my Grandfather could have paid $400 more and gotten the SS package with a 454 and handling modifications and a few other features . I have read you could order it with a stick shift if the dealer intervened on your behalf. That $400 extra would mean a car worth 5x as much as the base 250hp model. I can see my grandmother telling him don't even think about it, $400 was a lot more money back then. You could buy 2 door 1957 Chevrolet Belairs for $1000 back then.

    He'll have to find an old school glass guy to do the windshield. That trim pops off with a trim removal tool. Seen it done many times. They'll slice through the old seal with a knife, then they insert a piece of piano wire with T handles on the ends, slide it around, pull the glass, remove the old seal and reinstall everything. He can keep the original windshield if it isn't cracked.
    That pop up sunroof: I bet it will have foam blocks between the trim ring and the roof. I did one of those in my van and that's how it was installed. Pop out the sunroof, recaulk, reinstall, done.

The hood is also '70. It's the only one that had the washer nozzles at the back edge of the hood. The washer hose routing through the firewall is also exclusive to 1970 models. The taillights and the lack of a trunk lock bezel are 1970 only. It looks like someone changed almost everything in the interior to the '71/'72 interior, including the steering wheel and the visors. The dome light is '70 exclusive. The dash cluster has the gear indicator , indicating the car was originally column shifted. The console is from a Chevelle or El Camino.
