I've heard it hundreds of times and watched the Unplugged performance dozens and dozens of times...and it still brings tears to my eyes. A masterful performance of an amazing song. The stars were truly aligned on this night.

I was 23 when Pearl Jam originated.. and I went to buy their CD Ten and this song opened a revelation in me I nvr knew existed. I wrote my first poem to this song. Now I'm a published poet of 6 books, and I owe it all to Pearl Jam's Black.. this song is still captivating almost 30 years later.
Something to note, having the lyrics on hand for Pearl Jam's songs is a good idea. Eddie Vedder is sometimes hard to understand. The lyrics to this and a whole lot of Pearl Jam's music are meaningful.

They are really just a sung poem. Pure poetry. So much imagery and a whole lot of metaphor.

Pearl Jam is a legandary band. The band has so many super great songs so insanely intense!
