    Head's up. Whenever you listen to Pearl Jam, it's a fun idea to have the lyrics handy somewhere. While Eddie's voice is beautiful, he's not exactly known for his enunciation. He's like the mumble-rapper of 90s music. His lyrics tend to be very poetic and beautiful though.

  • @blizzardofodds4220

    The Genre is "Grunge" if you want to categorize it but if you want to hear some of they're rock songs then you should react to the song "Even Flow" or "Alive" off the same album.

  • @Tyler-je3yq

    Eddie has a unique style of vibrato. Most singers use a wave style of vibrato; waving the pitch up and down around the note. Eddie’s vibrato is stop and go on the note.

    • @stanmann356
      @stanmann356 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm no expert, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe what you describe Eddie doing is tremelo rather than vibrato

    • @Tyler-je3yq
      @Tyler-je3yq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, you’re absolutely right. It just speaks to Eddie’s uniqueness; I so rarely discuss tremolo when talking about a vocalist that I didn’t even think of the word 😂

I love you guys and don’t blame you because this is your first time checking them out. I beg of you to listen to JEREMY and their entire catalog. You won’t regret it. Eddie is also a super great person and humanitarian. I couldn’t love him more.

    You've opened up the Grunge genre. "The Big 5" came out of Seattle & San Diego with 5 EXCEPTIONAL lead singers. When Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" hit the airwaves & MTV it ended the 80's hair bands.
    A raw, alternative rock sound laced with punk rock & heavy metal. It's WILD! They dressed plain unlike the glam of hair bands. Lyrics could be quite dark.
    This band is Pearl Jam and that is EDDIE VEDDER. Out if the Big 5, Eddie is the one with the most control over his voice.
    "Black" is a beautiful song of unrequited love. The performance is one of the greatest MTV Unplugged ever had. The entire set of songs - Eddie kills it. I'll be taking you through:
    Nirvana: Kurt Cobain
    Stone Temple Pilots: Scott Weiland
    Pearl Jam: Eddie Vedder
    Alice In Chains: Layne Staley
    Soundgarden: Chris Cornell
    Grunge. A Bad Ass genre!
    Let's see who's your favorite...

      All these guys are/were great. Sadly, 3 of those guys are dead right? Weilland, Cobain, and Cornell.
      Cornell is the prize voice of the entire crew though. Eddie sounds good, but hearing him go up head to head with Cornell when they did Temple of the Dog-"Hunger Strike" together in that random ass band/album, he just comes way harder than Eddie does in their song that has basically 3 lines over and over. Eddie was just a backup role really with how straight he did that song.

      Totally agree. The 90s was an epic time in music. Not only did we have a lot of the best rock from the 70s and 80s to enjoy but we had the Grunge era, which changed everything. It was like music was reinvented for a few short years and everything felt more real and genuine. For the longest time I thought it was just my nostalgic brain giving me that impression, and that everyone thinks the music they heard in their teens was something special, but it's clear from watching people reacting to it now that it really was a special time in music history.

    I think you were looking for the word "Vibrato" - vibrato; plural noun: vibratos
    a rapid, slight variation in pitch in singing or playing some musical instruments, producing a stronger or richer tone.

    The first time that he sings "Now my bitter hands" should be followed by "shake beneath the clouds of what was everything". He also missed the line "I know she gave me all she wore". Great performance regardless.

    This was recorded as part of MTV’s unplugged series meaning it’s played acoustically; nothing plugged in, no electric guitars, etc. It’s still grunge, however, it’s unplugged and all the songs for the concert will be softer instrumentally. Listen to the studio version of BLACK and you’ll understand.

    These MTV unplugged sessions were all a bit softer than the original songs since it's all acoustic. All the grunge bands' performances on MTV unplugged in the 90s were incredible. Nice that you noticed how different it is from other rock, grunge definitely has a unique feel to it.

    Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) is the only big grunge band lead singer still alive….Kurt Cobain died by suicide, Layne Staley died by overdose, Chris Cornell died by suicide…..definitely check out Alice In Chains “Rooster and Man in the box” he had my favorite grunge rock voice

    Wow, you guys did not get this at all. The feeling and the emotion in this song is so deep. I don't even think you listen to the lyrics. You're. Bobbing your head and she's chewing gum. The song is about heartbreak and trying to let go and not being able to let go. Eddie wrote this song about the horrible divorce and relationship of his ex-wife. This is one of the greatest performances live or otherwise of any band ever. The passion the emotion the true depth of his pain is in every word. You really need to work harder on listening to what you're listening to.
