It's been a full year since Elden Ring released. Over time, I've come to realize a truth about how I can best appreciate this flawed but still incredible game. It's important to have unique builds, but it's also important to not put undue pressure on yourself to stand out. I think at least 1/3 of your builds should use conventionally good setups, as a way to let off steam when you're frustrated with the struggle of off-meta play. So, to show my approach to this philosophy, here is my favorite 90+20 build - Nox Surgeon Herrena. She is an Int build with some investment in Strength to use Blaidd's Royal Greatsword. Alongside that weapon, she uses her mainstays of a cold Knight Greatsword (a combo machine) with Piercing Fang, and cold Great Epee with Impaling Thrust. She also has a gravity theme to her tools, including the Starscourge Greatswords and the Onyx Lord Greatsword, both of which are impeccable for invasions. Finally, what brings it all together are her Night Maiden's Mist sorcery, the calling card of her homeland, and Gravity Stones (Chunks and Fans). All of these tools work very well within the meta of Elden Ring PvP, while retaining a theme and a mechanical through-line. This is the kind of setup that relaxes me after struggling at other levels with my various other builds using less traditional tools. It's strong enough for high RL play, it doesn't f*ck around, but it's still perfectly suited to the kind of shenanigans that make invasions worth it. Highly recommended. The LORE: Herrena was born in the Eternal City, diminutive in size, and underestimated in battle. Despite her drive to defend her homeland, she was pushed into medicine, told that she would fit best as a War Surgeon. Far behind the front lines, supporting the Nox forces. But the Eternal City was wholly unprepared for the cosmic threat they would face. Astel the Horror tore through their civilization, gutting it, and leaving behind a vast expanse of stars. Herrena knew she was the only one left to take on this threat. And so she fitted herself with heavy, cosmic weapons fit to kill a starborne horror, and took to battle - knowing still that she could not succeed. And yet she did so anyways. She fell in battle, but her spirit rose yet again to watch over the gravesite that Nokstella had become. Any who would dare tarnish this burial site would face her wrath - especially those called to action by the foul Goddess Marika herself. This, was her true calling. Music: "Nay! Oh, and I cannot overstate how much I enjoy seeing your thought process through an invasion like that! Putting words to every minor action and decision really elucidates how much thought is put into what you do.

THE BONUS MIST CLIP YESSSS #MISTGANG DAMN Fel, your fundamentals remain as rocksteady and slick as ever, that main invasion was a masterclass in rustic play and tactics. Also that intro and montage was truly excellent
Oh my god, Starcaller's Cry-ing players into the chariots is not something I ever though about - it has so many good environmental uses. AND pulling people out of fog-wall cheese. The invasion - about as perfect as you can get in terms of swapping and situational coverage with no PvE - the most impressive part being that they didn't just fogwall you, which would have been my primary concern. I can tell you have max camera speed because when I watch someone play without it, it sticks out so so much, but it's so crucial to be able to see the startup animation of any given attack, AND enemy positions which are constantly changing. Artful montage, truly as close to cinema as invading gets. Loved the editing, tasteful use of slow motion AND THE FUCKING HALF A SECOND GAG AT 1:06. Enjoyed every second. #MISTGANG
This was awesome. Music was just right too, kept me on the edge all the way through ahahaha. Bonus clip was beyond satisfying btw, typical 12-D chess from a Sun Tzu grasshopper.

He pointed out that we see more and farther than our predecessors, not because we have keener vision or greater height, but because we are lifted up and borne aloft on their gigantic stature." You, my dear Fel, are a living proof that even today those words are true.
