    Great video bro! I have something to add which relates to your point about difficulty and dying at 2:42. When I'm trying to help a new player, I always stress the proper mindset to approach this game with. Facing difficult, complex bosses is one of the most fun parts of the game, but only if you're not afraid to die, and only if you're not eager to hurry through all the content. If you just wanna get past a boss, it will be frustrating, and this is why a first playthrough is so hard, because you just wanna see all the new content and you don't wanna get stuck, so this mindset does not come naturally. But if you can find the fun in simply fighting, dying, and gradually increasing your knowledge and skill against each boss, then each fight will feel immensely rewarding.
    Enjoy your time with each boss, because once they're dead, you can't fight them anymore. Patience is key!

    So here's a number one tip that I've never seen any beginner's guide mention: In the game settings, turn your hud to always on. Yeah it doesn't look as cool, but it shows you the status icons all the time. I first played this game for many hours with the hud set to the default setting of auto hide, before I noticed that, for example, you get a status icon when you are in range of a stake of Marika. And the same with a certain status effect that you get from a certain person. The game is confusing enough without actively hiding useful information.

    Great video, really enjoyed it. One suggestion from me for anyone getting started: don’t go into a tough fight with a pocket full of runes. Either go grind some more to level up, or spend them on upgrades. It really reduces the stress of dying.

    I have 9 characters all over 300RL, some over 400RL, so I have quite a bit of experience in this game, and I clicked on your beginner's guide expecting to see the usual misinformation and nonsense. I was so impressed with the first few minutes of your video, that I watched it to the end and gave you a like and subscribed. Excellent work, you are so right about Vigor, and so many people think they can ignore it.

      Why do you think we all make this mistake? Is it because “health” is the most boring basic stat of any RPG. It makes so much sense though. Imagine you are levelling stats in real life. What’s the point of anything if you don’t have your health. ❤

    • @BrendanHenry
      @BrendanHenry 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think I assumed that armor would protect me more than it does, and I could only put points into one thing at a time, so health was going to go last. I started upgrading it eventually, but I only really put it in the right place when I respecced

    #1 tip: have fun! Since 2009 I discovered demon’s souls and kind of have a different perspective on all souls games. As a fan of glass cannons, I never raised my Vigor more than 40. And as a filthy mage, I rarely go above 20 vigor but still maintain 80 intelligence to pretty much one shot all enemies from afar ha ha

    Just gonna say that I'm two bosses away from earning the Elden Ring all acheivements trophy and I did this on the Dark Souls games also.
    That said - this guys guide is spot on. It balances between aluding to more while keeping only to the essential fundamentals with acompanying visual expalnations. Excellent!
    I wish I had this when I rage quit DS1 all those years ago only to return to and finish it (and DS2) totally after beating Dark Souls 3.
    Diabetor's Five;
    1) Level Vigour, {please do this, for everyones sake}
    2) Upgrade Weapons often {let this define your difficulty preference}
    3) Use Buffs, {anything from fall damage negation and invisibility to simple damage buffs later learning the weaknesses of your enemies}
    4) Practice dodging and avoid becoming over loaded
    5) Dont get frustrated ;)
    Folks who do level 1 runs with fist only do this because they've realised in new game plus, eventually everything one shots you and armour never mattered. Also all bosses have more health. So NG+9 can be simulated with no weapons or levels...if only a bit dry. It's not for the pain, it's for the memory puzzle and focus challenge.
    The lesson for us normies: you define the challenge - nevermore-so than in Elden Ring.
    Thankyou to Diabetor for making this guide!

    The point about not having to follow where the sites of grace are telling you to go is a very useful tip. I just got the game a couple days ago and learned the hard way, went straight to margit and got my ass handed to me like 20 times before i questioned if i was doing something wrong. I then went round and explored, geared up, came back and beat him on my first try. I think the thing that turns new players away is that there's no way to know that's what you're supposed to do unless you actively look it up. As soon as i learned what the game's actually all about, i started having a lot of fun.

      One of the great things about Elden Ring is that you can go at your own pace throughout the whole game, so even if your play sessions are short you can still make consistent progress. If you're stuck on a boss then you've always got side content you can go do to get stronger and come back to it later, so don't be afraid to go exploring if you feel like you're getting stuck somewhere.

    • @gavinbar1988

      @DIABETOR yeah that's something I'd need written in front of me. I know of these games" difficulty reputation. So I wouldn't have thought to try anywhere else. I'd assume I'd have to beat the difficult boss so would keep trying.
      I blame it on bring from an era where open world wasn't really a thing. Linear levels. Some levels were kind of large and had more than one approach but by and large you hit a difficult part you had no choice but to tackle it head on or stop playing.

    Probably a foot note for tip 1, you can basically do 2-3 vigor to 1 dex for your melee builds as early game, the dual handing bonus should allow you to equip the bigger swords or be 1 or 2 points of str shy before you touch str(A good example is bloodhounds fang. Which i doubt many will use a shield with for the sake of its ash of war)

    Bro this video is so good. I actually started playing Elden Ring…idk right after I beat Black Myth Wukong in October soooo I’m like 220 hours or so in. Disclaimer: I’m legally blind/ visually impaired , I have glaucoma and I fall a lot in this game. But I wish I had seen this video before I started Elden Ring. A lot of these tips are things I’ve learned via trial and error. I beat Maliketh first play through in 2 tries, and the fire giant was really fun but not too hard. I do have a mage build I did Rannis quest and my build is focused around frost, the dark moon great sword and glintstone sorceries but also I’ve just started to experiment with night sorcery before going to the Haligtree or the Ashen capital. Gravity has been super difficult for me cuz sometimes I think there’s a platform and I just die. Getting into Norkron took a long time cuz I had no idea where the entrance was lol. Also this game has like cave entrances that are not like super obvious lol. But my mage build I really like it at this point and I do have some points in strength but I wish I had leveled vigor earlier. I have 42 vigor rn and I’m just now realizing how much of a difference that makes. I think I had 20 vigor fighting Rennalla but she was super hard. My intelligence is like 73 rn and my mind is like 25 and my endurance is around 25 or 30. But I just recently learned how to use smithing stones and somber stones sooo yeah.
    Elden Ring is very fun but I learned a lot of this stuff via trail and error this is a great video for new players. I’ve been enjoying it so far. I usually play Zelda games so this game is super different but very fun!! Like you said in the video I thought leveling my stats meant my character does more damage I didn’t realize I needed to level my weapons. Also I just realized a couple days ago I could craft things….crafting sleep pots would’ve helped other the godskin duo before I fought the snake boss there. Also I didn’t really I should’ve used serpent hunter’s weapon skill to fight that boss. I didn’t know how to use weapon skills when I fought that boss….so now I know how to use weapon skills….
    I also like using summons Black Knife Tiche has been my primary summons. I didn’t use summons before I got her but she’s great I leveled her to +10 lol.

      It should be noted that casting speed is really only useful in pvp, it can be nice in pve but I definitely wouldn’t prioritize it. If anything you should use the Radagon Icon for the 35 virtual dex it gives.

    After that rage inducing boss fight (dual wielding Scimitars), I made it a point to explore. I assumed every area has a main boss so I loot and level up.
    Still, i didn’t understand stat distribution. So I was running around with high strength faith and intelligence. Mad bc I didn’t understand how to use incantations lol.

      Overall I'd probably say that Strength builds are the best for new players. They're super easy to manage-- basically just make sure you focus on leveling Vigor and Strength-- and you get access to tons of weapons and nearly all of the ashes of war in the game. Like I said in the video, get 40 Vigor, then pump Strength basically. I'd also get 20 Endurance at some point and a little Mind if you want to use spirit ashes. As long as you've got Vigor and upgrade your weapons, you'll be fine. I should also mention that I've got several build guides, the playlist is linked in the description, so you might want to check some of those out too. Whatever you choose, good luck!

      Play the game however you want, I don't care, it's a singleplayer game. You have 60 vigor and have focused on getting your main damage stat to 80, which are exactly what I advised doing in the guide, so farming doesn't really do anything for you anyway. My point was that spending 20 hours watching a number go up isn't suddenly gonna make the game easy mode for new players, which is 100% true. Other than that, your advice is basically pretty much exactly what I said, so I'm not sure what your goal was here, but thanks for commenting!

Unless you're a really high level (like 200+) you really don't want to be spreading your stats out more than leveling Vigor, one damage stat (such as Intelligence), and a bit of Mind and Endurance. And just a little bit of Strength and Dexterity for weapon requirements.
      Speaking of Dex, you should NOT level it for the spellcasting speed, it's a very slight increase and it won't do much for you. That's really only a pvp thing, it's generally not worth worrying about in pve.
      As for your damage output, make sure you use smithing stones to upgrade your staff/seal as high as possible. Most of your damage comes from weapon upgrades, not stats, so upgrading your stuff is very important. What are you using and what level is it at?
      Also make sure you have at LEAST 40 Vigor. Preferably you'd go up to 60 Vigor by the end of the game.

      The pvp meta is 125. For solo/coop play, there's a lot of people who go to 150, but the "meta level" is a pvp thing that was chosen by the community, and it's 125 because beyond that every duel/invasion just turns into a gigantic spell spamming clusterfuck. Imo if you want a good mix of being able to do both invasions and coop, go to 138/139, but for duels you'd want 125.

      @josephbulkin9222 You can get away with blocking a lot of stuff even without a shield. I often get saved by blocking boss attacks with even a small weapon like a thrusting sword- sure, I still take a bunch of damage because its absorption stats are pretty low, but it can save me from an attack that might’ve otherwise killed me. They actually buffed a bunch of shields in the last patch, too. Make sure you’re using a shield that you have the stat requirements for, and make sure you upgrade the shield whenever you can. The Brass Shield is a very good option, and with that last patch it now has the guard boost of a greatshield.

    I started less than a month ago. As always with any game I play, the rule is that if I die, I delete the profile and start again. I'm also not good at games where you have to react fast or perform complex actions on a timer and prefer more of a turn based or pause always available style.
    Elden Ring so far is not difficult at all and watching this, I didn't follow any of those rules really. What I did was take the portal to Caelid and farm the vulgar soldiers using glintstone pebble and then great glinstone shard till 80 intelligence before touching any other stat. Next mind to 20 and vigor to around 40-50 since these don't really matter when farming but do matter when going out in the world.
    I of course died. 3rd try now. Level 180, it was pretty easy to unlock Mohg frog farm around level 80 after a few hours farming the vulgar soldiers. Then got the crystal staff, staff of loss (off hand), night comet. Upgraded the Crystal staff to +6, got the golden scarab and farming the frogs. When in doubt, overlevel, use spirit ashes and the game can't be easier. I can't dodge at all and get hit like half the time or more from bosses but that doesn't matter if I stay at range, let my minion tank them and kill most of them in seconds with magic. Everything up to Leyndell has been a cakewalk and the only danger I face is pretty much falling off a ledge now.

    • @DIABETOR
      @DIABETOR  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I mean, you're entitled to play the game however you want, but this genuinely sounds like the least fun way to play a game I've ever heard of. It's bad enough that you're doing permadeath as a first playthrough, but also doing permadeath and spending 90 hours grinding after each restart is just... wow.
      If this style of gameplay is what works for you then go for it, but this is absolutely _horrible_ advice for any other player, for a variety of reasons.
      Again, yeah, play however you want, but I mean of course the game is gonna be "easy" if you're constantly on the backfoot and take no risks. And I'm not even talking about like standard mage gameplay, there's nothing wrong with summoning a spirit or whatever and then attacking the boss from range, but there's no way you-- with your permadeath rule-- are not spending 20 minutes running away from every boss while you wait for your summons to draw aggro after every time you attack them. Fun is subjective but between this likely extremely passive type of gameplay, and the ungodly amount of time you've spent farming, this does not sound even vaguely fun.
      I'm not trying to sound like a dick, and I certainly appreciate the view and comment, but I gotta say that you must be one of a kind if you find that kind of gameplay fun. Dying is literally an integral part of Elden Ring's gameplay loop and going so far out of your way to subvert that-- at great expense solely to yourself, no less-- is certainly a bold decision. Good luck!

    • @kayleemichelson4019
      @kayleemichelson4019 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@DIABETOR Well you missed the point. I never advise anyone to play permadeath.
      I guess the main thing I was trying to say there is that you can get into high level areas early game where you can get strong loot and where easy to kill enemies drop a lot of runes. Then you can just farm them a bit and easily overpower everything in Limgrave.
      Then go back and farm some more when enemies start becoming too hard. Also I think you're mistaken when you think it needs ungodly amount of time. I got 1.5mil runes from the frogs in under 1 hour. Level 200 from scratch would take less than 5 and I'm sure there are much more efficient ways of doing it. I was double tapping them with night comet and not even using any AoE abilities.
      There is no way I'd spend 90 hours farming before even playing the game. It's more like I just watch YT while farming a bit before play sessions, then go back and clear a zone.
