When a man and a weapon love each other veeery much… (EDIT 10/22/24: If you’re seeing ads on this video, it’s not from me. So apologies if they are disruptive in any way. There is a non-copyright-claimed version linked in my reply comment below, if you don’t want ads.) If you liked this video, feel free to share it around with anyone who cares - with a small channel like mine, I really can’t depend on the YT algorithm to help me out. 😅 And if you want more LKLS goodness, here is the “Longspear Bible”. holy shit ??? like what the actual fuck ??? What amazing production value ! What great pacing, soundtrack, editing, everything ! This is truly a video for the ages ! I hope you're proud of yourself for that one, chief, cause you deserve it !!
AWWW thanks so much, that makes me so happy to hear. Working on big videos is such an absurd amount of effort, but this makes it feel very worthwhile 😊
Well, you made possible the impossible: made me watch a 40 minutes video of Dark Souls 3, a game that I haven’t touched in 4 years (basically) and I have all the intention to keep it that way. I have too many hours on it, and I can’t stomach the PvP again. BUT. It seems that are plenty of things I didn’t try or even know yet, which is the sign of two things: From Software knows its stuff and that you are a great player/creator. And WHAT A GREAT EDITING, man. Never in the way, always entertaining, always bits and effects of good taste. Very well done. This kind of video took ages to make, I know that for sure. Also, that fucking RARE Death Grips intro? Jesus Christ. 10/10
Years ago I watched a Bloodborne montage from a guy I’ve never heard of before, and it was one of the best things I had watched on TH-cam in years. Later I found out that person made more videos for the other Souls games, and now I look forward to every excellent Elden Ring video they drop - because it’s always the best thing currently going on in the ER PvP scene. Of course that person is you Azael. So, to hear that you enjoyed my video means so much to me. Thanks for all the kind words, seriously. Even if you don’t plan to return to Lothric, to know I was able to educate and entertain one of the greats is all I need. Cheers homie!
This is essentially a dangitjm video. Might as well be called "The underrated LKLS". I mean this as the highest praise I can give a DS3 video. This is *wonderfully* done. Earned a sub.
I appreciate the flattering comparison! I do have a lot of thoughts about this comment. Humor me if you’d like, otherwise feel free to ignore my blathering. 😊 I do love and respect JM’s work and they really paved the way for a whole genre of content. But for that same reason, I do try and distinguish my style from theirs in a number of ways (in my more data driven approach, my writing, and my music and edits) because I prefer that my videos stand on their own. The Underrated Series is kinda the elephant in the room for anyone making PvP weapon analysis content for Souls games, and it takes time and energy and creativity to stand out and avoid JM’s shadow. I put a lot of that effort into my own style and I hope it speaks for itself - and as much as I like JM’s work, I don’t consider myself derivative of them, and I don’t see my videos as an offshoot of their work. As an example of something JM does that I do not: I specifically avoid discussions of patch history, PvE/buildmaking, or basic “Googleable” info (like how to obtain each weapon), and tailor my discussion specifically on mechanics and approach. In other words, JM’s vids are just as much about the “what”, “when”, and “how” as much as the “why”. Meanwhile I am very very much about the “why” specifically - why mechanics work the way they do, and why that matters for the weapon at hand. Furthermore, my approach is specifically targeted at intermediate players, folks already familiar with somewhat advanced concepts and with PvP mechanics, while JM’s approach makes the Underrated series more beginner friendly. I see so much value in their approach, but I have slightly different goals - and I wouldn’t want to tread on tilled soil. All that to say, I appreciate your kindness and I’m really glad you enjoyed the vid! And please don’t take this as me chastising you - I just have a very chatty brain and this made me think about some deeper questions about my work on this website. And when my brain thinks something, my hands have to write something. It’s the content creator’s curse. 😅
I can so not believe what I'm learning that I had to stop the video to comment. I have like a gazillion hours in DS3 pvp, how are some of these news to me? I'm a simple str guy who loves his R1+R1 into R2+R2 pseudo Partizan combo but LKL, which I always overlooked, apparently has some great potential. It was only after I stopped playing DS3 that I became a Leo Ring enthusiast though, so I forgive myself lest Ornstein does not.
My hope was that even LKLS users would learn something new from this video, and I think I was successful there. But even more than that, I’m happy to hear it landed for folks less experienced with the weapon too. It really is unlike anything else in the game and perhaps the whole series
After I've been burnt out of Elden Ring PVP, I've been watching old videos of iamamish, saint riot and dangitjm on DS3 PVP, which I've never participated in. I was kind of surprised when this video came up on my home page because of when it came out (youtube was keen on what I was watching I guess) but I'm glad this video was recommended to me. I'll finally give DS3 PVP a try. Thanks for making this video, I bet it took a long time to make.
I hope you have a ton of fun. DS3 has its own jank and imbalance but it’s the most fun I’ve had with Fromsoft PvP, and frankly it isn’t even close. Thanks for watching!
Fel you bastard! This is the best thing I've seen all year!! I did not think there was any room in my ash-filled shriveled up heart for more DS3, but this might just change my mind! Funny, insightful, and stylish as hell. Glorious, glorious work!!
You can't do this to me Fel! Not only is it almost Exam season, I also have WAY too many warhammer models still left to paint to go back to DS3... but the sirens song is so tempting!
I was resisting the urge to go back to DS3 and use this weapon the entire time until you pulled up that picture of the 1handed goddamn hitbox and it made me realize that I needed return IMMEDIATELY to use this thing. This whole time you've been singing this spear's praises but it was only now that it all clicked in the way only a Fel can make it click. HELL YES this was an amazing video, I'm gonna rewatch it again once I get off work I get it
“Whoops, I dropped my monster hitbox for my magnum spear!” Have fun swingin that thing around Rofo 😉 and thanks as always for your enthusiasm and support for all the stuff I make 💜
Beautiful video Fel ❤ You have this very nice ability to not only breakdown every dusty, cobweb filled nook and cranny of a weapon or setup and its potential, but also show what makes it fun (THAT R2 TRACKING X.X ). It instantly creates the desire to discover that same fun for yourself after watching and that is the true magic of a well done (and extremely well edited) video. Worth the wait 👍🏼 (shoutout to the Prynne cameo at the end)
Join our ranks! Lothric needs YOU 🫵 Thanks for watching Rendan, at the end of the day I’ll be happy if this video makes even just a few people pick up this weapon and try it out so they can see what I’m talkin about. Prynne cameo 💪
Whole Ass Movie out here about ONE weapon from DS3. Amazing job, great pacing, breaking expectations, well presented Info... just everything. Keep doing you man, this is the Souls Community i love to see. Much Love.
Recently started a playthrough. Looked up "Lothric Spear" because I felt I never gave enough love to the poking sticks in this game, and the Lothric knights' seemed my style. This video is a true blessing. Thank you, sir, for giving me more to look forward to in this nearing‐a‐decade‐old game, and even general info I never knew - I've always known about some actions cancelling staggers earlier than others, but never that it varied like that. Phenomenal work with production of this video.
Pretty dang good, and on a weapon that I have literally only seen as a "poise antenna" and never as an actual weapon that someone uses In a world where the DS3 meta is... what it is today... I'm kinda glad that there's at least one person out there trying out some weird wacky stuff that has never been seen before. Hell, it almost gave me an itch to go back to DS3 at a time where I'm trying new stuff in Elden Ring that I have never tried out before. You rock, seriously
Thank you Mr Kumo, I love your ER vids. I’ll be repping the DS3 gang for a good long while more, I’m glad to hear my exploits and shenanigans brought you some joy
Fel out here making me want to go back to DS3-- WAIT FOR RETURN TO LOTHRIC DAMMIT! I'm already playing too many games! All jokes aside, fantastic video, made for a very enjoyable watch on a rare hour long lunch break.
I gotta say Fel, I really appreciate and respect you decided to finish this video despite life getting in the way for a while. Believe me, I understand the circumstance lol. It goes without saying, but you did a great video showcasing this spear. Personally, I dabbled with the LKLS a couple of times and I enjoyed it a lot back in the day but couldnt really understand why I did outside the R2. The video not only explained why I did, but also taught additional info (like that 1H Hitbox difference/additional combos like GEEZ). Interesting that the Charged R2 on the LKLS loses the perfect tracking just like the BKG's Charged R2. That was a property I assumed was exclusive to BKG but I was mistaken! This video is the best counterpoint to the poise antenna notion. On another note, I missed this type of content/analysis from you and the landscape on YT. I know people say that rose tinted glasses elevate feelings, but Elden Ring does not have this type of intricacy in combat. I could say a whole dialogue, but I'd break the character limit on here so I'll digress. I hope to see another form of analysis/commentary from you in the future. You're very skilled in commentary/video making (You wont convince me otherwise!). I hope life treats you well and that it lets up to allow you more free time. Until next time Fel!
Thank you Derpy, of all people I know you’d understand. I’ve been going through some of your older videos and just reminiscing - you’re one of the greats, I hope you know. Always a joy to hear from you, whether it’s through a video or through a lovely YT comment like this. I don’t think I have another one like this in me, but I’m happy and proud to have gotten this vid done. It’s something I can always hang my hat on, at least. Much love Derpy! 🫶
This is genuinely one of the best video's I've seen recently and I can't describe why. But after watching this I couldn't sleep for 2 hours because I wanted to gamedev so bad. all the intricacies of combat are just so fascinating, and its all put in such an appealing package
Aquamarine and LKLS are one of those weapons that are the best-underrated metas in DS3. I realized in time that these weapons are very entertaining to use and sit around the A tier weapons. I hate most players using RKSS and PKCS all the damn time. I wished more weapons were like these, having pros and cons. I see LKLS more like a defensive weapon and using it offensively can be quite complicated compared to RKS. By the way this video feels like I am watching Dangitjm. Amazing video!
Yeah LKLS def fits in the A-tier as a godlike defensive weapon - that said, its offense is also a bit better than most people give it credit for. It just requires more risk-taking and smart play, particularly with max range R2 pokes, good use of Charge for predictive trades and gap-closing, and the running R1 to open people up and set up your combos. That frame 1 option alone can totally change the pace of a fight, particularly against reactive folks who want to play passive as a counter to the LKLS’ defensive toolset. Add on the interplay between the long range R2 and the up-close R1 nuke, and it becomes clear that the LKLS ability to push opponents and generate offensive momentum is truly in the player’s hands. The more you practice, the more work this moveset will do for you - perhaps moreso than almost any other weapon. And that’s just so cool to me. Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed!
I only used lkls for fishing so im kinda surprised it had so much depth and nuance to it. Also just to let you know you can escape staggered r1 combos with quickstep and perseverance. Its been about 3-4 years since i last played ds3 and im still learning new things! Great video Fel❤🙏
I can’t believe the depth of this weapon and honestly DS3 in general! This video is such wonderful showing of editing and passion ❤, and i can say that barely touched the surface of ds3 gameplay , something i kinda regret . Great video Fel! The wait was worth it 🎉( and hopefully we won’t wait as long to hear your voice again :D )
Not only does Fel use Columbo clips in 2024, they use clips from some of the greatest columbo episodes ever filmed. Oh Algo Gods, how ye have blessed me this day.
This is no joke, my favourite video I've seen in months. So many moments had my jaw on the floor as you described the moveset's quirks, strengths, and overall craziness. I think my favourite part was the sweep, that shit is so goofy for a weapon like this and exemplifies my favourite parts of FromSoft weapon design. Also, the editing for this video is simply astounding and kept me engaged throughout and the humour landed consistently and strongly for me. Thank you for the video, can't wait to get started on more of your content.
This video is definitely a standout in terms of polish, but at the very least I can say all my videos come from the heart, haha. Thank you so much for your kindness, I’m glad the video hit the right notes for you
i absolutely loved the video! the editing is phenomenal and the choice of music was fitting! havent played a whole lot of ds3 pvp, but i will tonight;p thanks for the inspiration
I want you to understand exact;y how much respect you have instantly gained for including a Justin McElroy meme in your video. I literally love you as a person.
this is beautifully made. i initially didn't plan to watch a 40 minute video about dark souls 3 spears, but i couldn't pull myself away once i started. i love the perfectly fitting tv show/movie clips, the music is great, the memes are actually funny, and the editing is so stylish! such nasty gameplay too. everything about this video is perfect. i can't believe i get to watch this for free.
haven't been active in this game since around 2020, dont remember how i came across this video 4 years later, but i remember that editing, jokes, and content like this are what got me into the game in like 2018. keep on carrying the torch
Awesome video man I subscribed. I can’t believe I stumbled across content like this I’m pumped to see more. One of my favorite games of all time. You also remind me of JM in the best of ways
No wonder the LKLS was one of my favourite weapons in DS3. I knew about some of this but it has so much more depth than I originally thought. Great video!
That editing at 27:00 is the best thing I've ever seen. Tbh all the editing in this was amazing, esp for such a small channel. Thank you for the effort you put in. Vvv excited to check out the rest of your channel
The amount of time and effort put into getting the clips, gathering information, and editing is impressive. This is a very well-made video with a good mix of showing gameplay potential and just enough funny moments/memes to keep viewers on their toes. It kept me engaged all the way through the video. Great job on this project.
I love these types of videos that show a side of a weapon I had never considered before. I'll have to try to implement this into my next build, along with the pick and poker from your other video, both look like a lot of fun!
this deserves a hundred times more views than it has. incredibly editing, amazing script, interesting gameplay analysis, and a generally awesome style of content. much love, dude.
Absolutely worth the wait, it’s already everything I wanted and more. Beautiful, Poetic Cinema. For Action Role Playing Game Dark Souls 3. Oh my god you actually did the SP comparisons visually, that’s so cool - no one actually does that in videos, they usually just refer to the Reddit thread of dubious accuracy. I never considered the interpolation on the hitboxes catching multiple opponents by sweeping the R2 hitbox - that’s kind of insane. SURPRISE COLUMBO The video is so good I completely forgot to start taking notes for the entire first 10 minutes. That added poise damage of the pike class breaking any potential hyperarmor out of the close range R1 is extra useful, though I don’t think any hyperarmor in the game would even come out fast enough to contest it - so they really do have to roll. Surprise Bisexual Siegward, we love to see it. That running attack IS Frame 1 isn’t it. Wow that’s fucked up. Except somehow.. It isn’t. Most balanced frame 1 attack I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The multihits not locking is something I’m intimately familiar with, unfortunately, but FRAME 1. These charts and diagrams are perfect for visualizing how to manage threat zones, spacing, conditioning, the works. Lovely Cinematic Aspect Ratio Shift for the crit fishing montage. THE BLOCKCHAIN There are like 3 layers to this joke. The Sekiro. You’re braver than I trying to make a caster with this thing. OMG I make a surprise appearance! I remembered that appearance but I forgot about the stream entirely. This was just so perfect, it’s your best work, and you should be proud of it. I’m so glad to finally see it, and it was a treat the entire way through. All killer no filler. I am already preparing to go out and (ab)use this knowledge. It’s an honor to be your friend even all this time later. Perhaps we shall see each other again in Lothric.
Prynne you’ve broken the YT meta once again with your lovely play-by-play comments, this was lovely to read. Really glad the jokes landed with you (the blockchain one especially lol) and the info translated well enough to the screen. I was a bit worried my figures wouldn’t come across clearly, but nothing gets past you! And I knew the moment we had those fun coinvasions in Demon Ruins that I had found the perfect outro. You’ve been a friend and supporter for ages now, and still one of the few Pick and Poker connoisseurs representing out there - to know that you’re interested in trying this weapon out too only proves that we’re on the same wavelength yet again. Cheers to DS3 and to a future of weird, wonky PvP. Thanks as always Prynne ❤
Hell yes, my old beloved LKLS. I used to use Corvian Greatknife offhand with it a little after launch! Played like that in duels for yeeeaaars. Never knew these super in-depth mechanics, though I was absolutely aware of the WA R1 combo, that shit hurts. Thank you so much for the nostalgia.
I genuinely don’t know how I avoided the approximately 2 football fields of UGS shockwave hitbox there. Latency spacing is a hell of a thing. Great to see you around Amish, hope you’re well. This’ll probably be my last DS3 vid, I wanted to make one last splash and see if I can’t spread it as far as I can. So far the response has been heartening, and I truly appreciate all the comments and shares on this, my final hurrah for a game that meant more to people than it probably was ever meant to. The market for DS3 PvP is clearly there, we just need a new game capable of scratching that itch 😅
@@Felicificity 32:35 - if I were to use the warpick, do you recommend any particular weapon for the offhand to go with it? Also, question on the infinite blockstun - did you test that on PC, or PS4?
@@iamamish I’ll have to get back to you on that first question, I’ve put my best men on it. As for the testing, it was done on PS5 at 60 FPS. Worth noting, however, that some weapons seem to be a lot harder to infinitely stunlock - notably weapons with a diagonal block (SS, CS, hammers, etc) get pushed far back on hit, limiting the stun to only three hits before they’re out of range. Also, greatswords seem to be able to attack out of blockstun just fast enough to break out of the infinite stunlock if your staggered R1 timing isn’t perfect. And because staggered R1s aren’t a queued input, your timing really does have to be fully manual. These are all factors that make the infinite blockstun trick situational by nature. That said, the timing for stunlocks is wayyy more generous for ultras and polearm weapons, which seem to experience the longest blockstun of the bunch.
@@Felicificity that's really interesting. I remember Distant showing me something a long time ago where you could get stuck in infinite blockstun using BKS, but it was limited to PS4 and the slower frame rate - on PC, it wasn't possible. I think it was against a dagger, but I'm not sure. Interesting stuff!!
It's got the R1; it's got the R2; it's got the quick-HA L2; it's got (ok-ish) rolling R1; it's got the L2-R2-R1 combo; and most importantly, it's got the best fashion. Phenomenal video, friend! I never knew about the diminishing poise boost you get with the chunkier sets; and kind of appropriate I think, since this weapon is all about the FASHION. There is a way to get out of the L2-R2-R1 combo, and that is with quickstep. I had the utter displeasure of finding this out when Redlight did it on me: the mad lad hard swapped to murky (of course it's murky) in the middle of the combo, and quickstepped out. He learned it from Grim (because of course it'd be Grim). I haven't had a chance to test, but I gather that if you suspect that your opponent wants to qs out, you're better off doing L2-R2-R2 and hopefully get them as their qs s end.
Really lovely stuff fel, your editing is on point I love all the cinematic sequences:) I thought this weapon looked amazing all these years, maybe this'll be the catalyst for a potential visit to ds3! Keep at it fel!
This has some great editing, funny jokes, excellent information. I only got into DS3 late into its cycle, so ER has taken a lot of my time but this really makes me want to go back to Lothric. Thanks a lot for the hard work. Subscribed.
Awesome to hear I could appeal to the FGC crowd! I enjoy watching FGs but have no real experience w them, only ever played Smash and a tiny bit of SF6. But I find the lingo super useful and (in moderation!) fitting for Souls games PvP. I think these games are far from competitive but they ARE wild fun, esp invasions. Can’t get that experience anywhere else
I don’t have a lot of time for big videos nowadays but I’m really happy you dug it! I’ll still be releasing smaller projects for the foreseeable future though, and if I find another topic I’m this passionate about and find the time for it, I’ll be happy to make another larger commentary vid
Dude this video is so well made! How long was it in production? The greatlance and the LKLS were always my favorite two weapons, so its awesome learning years later that one of them is way better than i ever knew!
Yooo jager what’s up, I was just watching your videos. Thanks so much for the kind words. I started this video in early 2021, but by summer my IRL workload got too intense so I had to step away from the vid. By the time ER came out the vid was like halfway done, then obv I took a long hiatus from it to play and make vids about ER. Finally in mid 2023 I came back and started tinkering with the vid again, and really focused on it in 2024. So all told about a 1+ years of tinkering and about 6-8 months of super dedicated work. Which is way more than it should’ve been! But the longer I work on something, the more perfectionist I get about it. It’s a bit of a problem I have as a creator 😅 Glad to hear this hit the right notes with a fellow Greatlance and LKLS enjoyer. If you ever do come back to Lothric, they’ll be waiting for you!
Thank you for an amazing Video. I was impressed because durning this fight I thought it may have been latency or something why I couldn't parry or get out of stuff I thought I should have been able to get out of. Thank you for teaching me something new about a old game that I love. I am 100 percent trying this out now.
How the hell does this have less than 10k views?! Honestly, it's a fantastic video and more people should see it! My only critique would be to shorten the intro just a bit.
I was actually just looking at the Lothric Longspear cause I realized I've never used it for a run of the game before and started running into problems immediately; r1s bounce off even small wooden shields even when you two-hand it, the r2s have an odd timing to them that is just slow enough for any enemy in the game to swing at you first, the poise buff /only/ matters on the l2, and range advantage isn't a real thing in PVE. Then I noticed the l2 combos into the r1, which doesn't combo into itself because of the way mob poise works, but /can/ combo into the r2, and /that/ can combo into another r1- only if the enemy does anything but block. This thing works best if you make heavy use of the full moveset, something I only do for fun on other weapons, and now I'm determined to make it work. Thank you very much for contributing to my pre-build research, this video rules. ^_^
Idk why i watched a 40min video about something i know very well and had almost in all my builds... That says a lot about the respect i have to you and the game. Hope you're doing well Fel.
5:02 COMPLETELY unrelated, but i didn't expect fel to bring out the asturias bangers like that out of the blue great choice of music as always 😌 ...tho ngl i had trouble focusing cause i was too distracted by the bopping :V
@@Felicificity honestly i've met more *possible* fans of them in the souls/er community than anywhere else, seeing the musical tastes of peeps like tocco, emilia, dashing saint etc... seeing how i grabbed your attention by the way, from the way you spoke in the video, it sounds like this will be one of if not the last video for ds3 you will do, is there any chance you'll work on ER videos after the dlc comes out? if not, what else?(if anything)
@@iota-09 I still have some ER videos still in me, provided I have the time! At most I’ll probably drop one small build showcase video before the DLC, and maybe more vids later if the DLC itself lights a fire in me. I don’t think my type of weapon analysis suits ER very well and vice versa, but I do like the occasional build showcase set to music. The variety of build options are what that game excel at more than anything else so that’s probably what I’ll focus on 😁 My content spans a pretty wide range between the commentary weapon analysis and random invasion montages and the build showcases, so I know it won’t all appeal to the same audience. But I’m glad you’re still interested in my ER work!
@@Felicificity right, if i'm not wrong, most of your gameplay is in invasions, and elden ring invasions are... welll... they are what they are. here's to hope that they improve upon them with the dlc... worst come to worst, there'll at least still be duels... personally i still like using weapon setups in the way you do but in elden ring, however, i mainly play duels in den maps, so there's that, but it also does appear that the dlc will have new weapon categories(hopefully full categories and just unique weapons like ds3) so maybe that might work 👀
This is beautiful. The fact that it can exist in 2024, at the edge of Elden Ring's long awaited DLC, feels like a little miracle, like it's just for me. Though I don't play it regularly, DS3 is the one souls title I keep coming back to, and most certainly will again in the future. It's also the only Fromsoft title where the pvp actually _hooked me_ for a while, a phenomenon that to this day I scarcely understand and cannot explain. So I'm very glad to have bumped into this in my recommendations, even if it is your last DS3 video for a long while. Looks like I have one hell of a backlog to go through! :)
I laughed, I cried (when you got parried specifically), I basked in the fragments of light breaking over a sunlit hill, and I listened to Death Grips Truly incredible work, and I see now why you opt to take your time making these sorts of videos, it's an honest work of art in its own right, the knowledge and analysis and the framing and editing and everything else. Also I am a sucker for church choirs, so the intro alone pretty much sent me. Wow 🌟
Oh man sorry it took so long! You can just buy it from Greirat as well, after his Irithyll raid. But glad you got it early so you can enjoy it for your full playthrough. Have fun!
Absolutely awesome video. Makes me want to go back to dark souls 3! I do want to note that, while technically your 15-15% poise number will give you the correct math, it isn't very accurate to what is going on. All poise in dark souls 3 is effectively multiplicative damage reduction, just like absorption. Just as two sources of 10% absorption will combine to 19%: (1 - 0.1)*(1 - 0.1) = 0.81 damage taken = 19% damage reduction, poise works the same way, reducing the poise damage you take. This also does not mean there is some kind of diminishing effect of poise, even though it looks like you get smaller and smaller numbers the more you have. Rather, when you equip this spear, you will ALWAYS take 15% less poise damage compared to not using the spear if all else is equal, regardless of what your other gear actually is. The wikis saying that this weapon gives 15 poise is accurate, it's just how poise works. Thanks for the video!
Cheers and thanks for breaking that down. I had some notion that the math was not exactly as I represented, but I presented it as I did because for the sake of practical build planning. This is a beef I have with the “poise” number in the menu more than anything. People plan builds by hitting specific breakpoints, and that’s not something you can achieve easily through the method you described, as accurate as it is. It’s easier imo to say “15 minus 15 percent of what I’m currently wearing will get me to my breakpoint”, and giving the upper and lower bounds (naked vs Havel’s) kinda gives folks a sense of what that number will actually look like for them. I also developed the little poise calculator in my Google sheet with a similar practical/results-focused approach. But thanks for sharing the info nonetheless! And thanks for watching 😊
@@Felicificity Fair enough, I wasn't thinking about typical poise breakpoints. And your method is probably a bit faster for mental math, so that's completely fair. The poise number in the menu should really have a % sign next to it, would make it far more clear what is going on.
@@encharrion1275totally agree, and thanks again for the explanation. I may hate how it’s displayed in the menu but sharing knowledge and context is always welcome. The wikis are only wrong in one sense - when they say LKLS raises “Poise” by 15, it doesn’t actually raise actual “Poise” (the number in the menu) by 15, which has led to tons of confusion and frustration. Because the practical reality of the matter is that people only care about hitting their chosen poise breakpoints. And no wiki or site seems to actually break down why the Longspear isn’t actually raising poise by 15, as they claim it does. So for all intents and purposes, saying it increases poise by 15 is wrong in the practical sense - if you’re 15 poise shy of your breakpoint, in 99.9% of situations the Longspear will NOT suffice. So the wikis that say LKLS raises poise by 15 are giving incomplete/misleading information that does not match what appears in game, the wikis that say it decreases incoming poise damage by 15% are imo confusing or impractical for actual build planning, and of course Mugenmonkey is just plain wrong lol. Saying 15-15%, on the other hand, works off of the existing understanding, and simply adds the diminishing returns element to the equation which explains the number that actually shows up in the menu. This is what I consider to be the clearest way to communicate the math while using the information that already exists online. But again, this is at the end of the day an issue with how Poise is displayed in the menus, and if I could’ve clarified that more in the video if I really wanted to get down into the nitty gritty 😅
Glad to see this. I've been eyeing this spear for a while looks wise but never got around to it for the longest time because I have been so deep in the str sauce. That said I have a dex build now so this is if nothing else accessable for experimenting without making a whole new or respeced build.
When a man and a weapon love each other veeery much…

If you liked this video, feel free to share it around with anyone who cares - with a small channel like mine, I really can’t depend on the YT algorithm to help me out. 😅
And if you want more LKLS goodness, here is the “Longspear Bible”. In it, you can find the Poise Calculator I wrote for easier buildmaking, all my poise/hyperarmor testing data, and a list of combos/pseudocombos. Enjoy!

Just what 2024 called for; DS3 content. Beautiful.
Man if I had a nickel for every ds3 weapon that had a surprising amount of nuance I'd have like a dollar lol
Ds3 is probably the most fun game I've ever played, aside Minecraft. Paid 5 dollars, got hundreds of hours out of it.

No fucking way… sometimes you see a video that just makes you think “maybe the Souls community is okay” you know? This is fucking great, Fel
Thank you sm EXO 😊
holy shit ??? like what the actual fuck ???
This is so wholesome.
Cheers to you both 🫶
Omg point blank wholesomeness in my face ❤🎉
This is essentially a dangitjm video. Might as well be called "The underrated LKLS".
I mean this as the highest praise I can give a DS3 video. This is *wonderfully* done.
Earned a sub.
I appreciate the flattering comparison! I do have a lot of thoughts about this comment. Humor me if you’d like, otherwise feel free to ignore my blathering. 😊
I do love and respect JM’s work and they really paved the way for a whole genre of content.
And again thanks for the kind words, they’re not lost on me!! I promise I’m not irked by the comparison or anything, it was just thought provoking
"guardian ape yacht club" fuckin lol
lkls my beloved...
When's the next upload? 🥺
Thanks for watching!
great vid fel. i had no idea about the better hitstun towards the handle of the spear
Thx mook 🩵
I feel like it's 2018 and I'm watching a dangitJM video. This was exactly what I needed. How did I sleep on this weapon for my entire DS3 career?
Also, can we talk about that video production? Through the roof, man! This was spectacular.
Fel you bastard! This is the best thing I've seen all year!!
I did not think there was any room in my ash-filled shriveled up heart for more DS3, but this might just change my mind!
Funny, insightful, and stylish as hell. Glorious, glorious work!!
Thank u eiroth 💗
You can't do this to me Fel!
Not only is it almost Exam season, I also have WAY too many warhammer models still left to paint to go back to DS3... but the sirens song is so tempting!
Stay strong soldier! The figures aren’t gonna paint themselves!
i can't believe how well made this video is, this is a huge gift to souls pvp content
That’s all I want! It feels good to give back to the community that’s given me so much
I was resisting the urge to go back to DS3 and use this weapon the entire time until you pulled up that picture of the 1handed goddamn hitbox and it made me realize that I needed return IMMEDIATELY to use this thing. This whole time you've been singing this spear's praises but it was only now that it all clicked in the way only a Fel can make it click. HELL YES this was an amazing video, I'm gonna rewatch it again once I get off work
I get it
“Whoops, I dropped my monster hitbox for my magnum spear!”
Have fun swingin that thing around Rofo 😉 and thanks as always for your enthusiasm and support for all the stuff I make 💜
Beautiful video Fel ❤
You have this very nice ability to not only breakdown every dusty, cobweb filled nook and cranny of a weapon or setup and its potential, but also show what makes it fun (THAT R2 TRACKING X.X ). It instantly creates the desire to discover that same fun for yourself after watching and that is the true magic of a well done (and extremely well edited) video.
Worth the wait 👍🏼 (shoutout to the Prynne cameo at the end)
Join our ranks! Lothric needs YOU 🫵
Thanks for watching Rendan, at the end of the day I’ll be happy if this video makes even just a few people pick up this weapon and try it out so they can see what I’m talkin about.

I can't thank you enough for having ALL of the music used in the description. Incredible video!
Thank you :) glad you liked it!
Thanks so much, hope you have fun revisiting Lothric :)
Pretty dang good, and on a weapon that I have literally only seen as a "poise antenna" and never as an actual weapon that someone uses
In a world where the DS3 meta is... what it is today...

@@Blittsplitt5 If i recalll correctly, it's a week or two before the elden ring dlc comes out.

all the intricacies of combat are just so fascinating, and its all put in such an appealing package

@@Felicificity I'm a studying gamed designer,

Great video Fel❤🙏
the quality of this video is insane, this is the exact type of video i love to see from souls pvp youtube, super underrated!

Alright. New Character created. First DS3 playthrough in more than two years. I will do what I can to apply this.

No wonder the LKLS was one of my favourite weapons in DS3. I knew about some of this but it has so much more depth than I originally thought. Great video!

None of it is nearly as polished as this but they’re all from the heart. Thanks!
The amount of time and effort put into getting the clips, gathering information, and editing is impressive. Thank you very much! I’m especially glad the pacing worked out, since this is def my longest vid by a country mile 😅
this deserves a hundred times more views than it has. incredibly editing, amazing script, interesting gameplay analysis, and a generally awesome style of content. much love, dude.
So glad you enjoyed it. I also hope it gets more traction, but as long as someone’s enjoying it I’m happy
I thought I knew everything about hitstun and hitboxes but that heavier stun on close range R1s is new to me. Great find !
SURPRISE COLUMBO
The video is so good I completely forgot to start taking notes for the entire first 10 minutes.
IM SO READY
The editing on this video is incredible. Wow. Great work!
The fact that the work ended up being worth it is so gratifying. Thanks!
oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy!!!!!
An insanely well edited video, Fel. Everything down to the names of the different parts of the video was sooooo stylish!
Thanks so much! I do like my title cards 😁 Glad the effort paid off
Hell yes, my old beloved LKLS. I used to use Corvian Greatknife offhand with it a little after launch! Played like that in duels for yeeeaaars. Never knew these super in-depth mechanics, though I was absolutely aware of the WA R1 combo, that shit hurts. Thank you so much for the nostalgia.
1. Spacing at 6:04 was delicious
2. Fel DS 3 content in 2024? I'm here for it
I genuinely don’t know how I avoided the approximately 2 football fields of UGS shockwave hitbox there.
This is one of the best souls vids I've seen.... in terms of not only knowledge and skill, but also production quality. Bravo sir. Praise the Sun.
Great info, and thanks!! Glad you enjoyed it Tig!
great to have you back ! Awesome content ! I still play DS3 everyday ! :D
Awesome to hear! Hope you’re having fun! Give the LKLS a shot, I bet it will be a great time
Really lovely stuff fel, your editing is on point I love all the cinematic sequences:)
I thought this weapon looked amazing all these years, maybe this'll be the catalyst for a potential visit to ds3!

Cheers, thanks Ian ✌️
Damn, what a thoroughly well made and great video! Really good work.
I don't play DS3 PvP at all but I play fighting games and this topic + editing style is right up my alley. This seriously rules.
Can’t get that experience anywhere else
this is so well made and well edited... need more of it!! keep up to good work!
It’s a bit of a problem I have as a creator 😅
Glad to hear this hit the right notes with a fellow Greatlance and LKLS enjoyer. If you ever do come back to Lothric, they’ll be waiting for you!
as a spear enthusiast, this video and its editing made my day o7

Finally the content ive been waiting for 😩
Looks like I need to reinstall and get back to it. Great work as always
Thank you for an amazing Video. I was impressed because durning this fight I thought it may have been latency or something why I couldn't parry or get out of stuff I thought I should have been able to get out of. Thank you for teaching me something new about a old game that I love. I am 100 percent trying this out now.
Thanks Ronin! Glad you liked it
Man the start gave me Iced Estus vibes, i love this!
Glad you’re giving it a shot! It’s great fun
Idk why i watched a 40min video about something i know very well and had almost in all my builds...
That says a lot about the respect i have to you and the game.
Hope you're doing well Fel.
Thanks Dark, I’m doing well. And yes DS3 will always be something special! Hope you’re doing well too and thanks for watching
looks like I'm firin up the ole video game after all. Great video!
me looking at ds3 in my steam library after watching this amazing vid:
just as i thought i was out, they've pulled me back in!
For a slight moment I thought I was watching Limit Breakers video, thank you for quality content!
I may be getting old but I’m not at Old Man Limit Breaker age quite yet!
5:02
COMPLETELY unrelated, but i didn't expect fel to bring out the asturias bangers like that out of the blue
great choice of music as always 😌
...tho ngl i had trouble focusing cause i was too distracted by the bopping :V
Rare Asturias fan found in the wild, hell yeah. Freakin love that band. Cheers homie
The variety of build options are what that game excel at more than anything else so that’s probably what I’ll focus on 😁
My content spans a pretty wide range between the commentary weapon analysis and random invasion montages and the build showcases, so I know it won’t all appeal to the same audience.
Perfectly put. Thanks so much and hope you enjoy my eclectic menagerie of dumb videos. They aren’t all polished, but they are all very Me!
I laughed, I cried (when you got parried specifically), I basked in the fragments of light breaking over a sunlit hill, and I listened to Death Grips
Truly incredible work, and I see now why you opt to take your time making these sorts of videos, it's an honest work of art in its own right, the knowledge and analysis and the framing and editing and everything else. Also I am a sucker for church choirs, so the intro alone pretty much sent me. Wow 🌟
Thank u ghost u da best 🙈
The editing and production quality on this is insanely good! how do you only have 1200 subs??
It used to be 1100 just a day ago! We’re on the up and up 📈
Just started DS3 again from the beginning, spent 3 hours farming and finally got the spear to drop. Great video, thank you😀.
