Agree with everything here. I also think since it's a smaller sensor it is less likely to overheat so record limit could be less limited or have none at all. I know the processor adds to this as well, having a bluetooth module adds heat, having anything metal that attracts and holds heat without a proper way to dissipate in such a compact body all adds heat. On top of the fact that everything newer is bigger, faster, and stronger. I personally think the S9 size is already really good. I mean it's smaller than the Fuji X100. It's very close to the size of the ZV-E1/ZV-E10 so it's already tiny. It's quite literally the same size as the Panasonic GX9 (maybe a couple mm wider and taller) but that's it...WITH a 35mm Full Frame sensor. So, I think the body gets a pass and just add those few extra things you stated.

    • @RhettThompsonFilm

Yea realistically the S9 body is smaller than every Lumix camera released since the G100 so I think we could all get behind that. Seeing everyone’s comments is making me really excited there will actually be a little GM6 or something

  • @endah08

    Love this, here's my thoughts.
    G9ii sensor.
All the video specs even if you have to add some record limits. Open gate, 4k 120 etc. maybe 120 with a crop but ideally not. 4k 24 and 30 should have no record limit.
Flip up screen not flip out. Does vlogging in a pinch.
Built-in viewfinder with an option for better higher res hot shoe mounted viewfinder.
    IBIS of course.
Mechanical shutter for sure. Street photographers often use blur so I think that's important.
Maybe a refreshed lens to go along with it? New pancake maybe? I think if they could refresh the 12-32 with a slightly wider aperture or slightly better reach that would be amazing.
Crazy addition would be an internal ND, X100VI has it so why not?
I think Panasonic have to look at what Fuji have done which is not significantly limit their lower models to save the higher end. I don't think this will compete with the G9ii, just different users so give it everything. Make it a street shooting, personal video, travel cam beast. This is what the XT50 has at 1399 USD:
    40MP X-Trans BSI CMOS sensor
X-Processor 5 with majority of capabilities from X-T5
Image stabilization rated at up to 7.0EV
20 Film Simulation modes, including Reala ACE
Continuous shooting at up to 8fps (20 with E-shutter and crop)
    Subject recognition AF
Tap to track AF in video mode
Video capture up to 6.2K/30 in 10-bit up to 4:2:2
    4K 60p with 1.14x crop
    Raw video out over HDMI
2.36M dot viewfinder with 0.62x magnification
Tilting rear touchscreen with 3.0" 1.84M dot LCD
Battery life rated up to 305 shots per charge (390 in eco mode)
    UHS-II card slot
    That's tough competition.

Great video. I think one thing you haven’t touched on is who is the market for this camera. The S9 is aimed at content creators. I think this camera will hit the X100 crowd from a more photo-centric angle. A small photo-centric MFT has not been addressed since the GX9. The current G9II is the successor to the G7, the G100 could be seen as the successor to all the small non-ibis cameras including the GM line. I think a GX10 is the more likely model they would go with. I think you’ve mostly nailed it.
A couple of points on what I think Panasonic is likely to launch.
    - S9 style body housing a MFT sensor - they have already cut down the S5II to the S9, so it’s the easiest option.
    - No EVF, just the title screen
    - 25MP sensor with IBIS
    - PDAF
    - $1200
    - Close to G9II video, but probably not an included mic/headphone port.
    - Similar weight to S9
    - Luts
If we got everything we wanted it would be an updated GX body with all of the above +
    - Manual control dials
    - EVF
    - Weather Sealed
The expectation is that 2 cameras will be launched. The GH7 and a GX10 (or similar name) is what I expect.

    - L100 III a bit bigger with IBIS a flat version of the GH6 display implementation (tilt and swivel) and leaf shutter
    - G90 mII (min G9II)
    - gm5 + 14mm + 20mm all Mark II + the upcoming 18-40mm and that funky display would be what i want

Full frame was the biggest mistake of the S9, closely followed by the lack of EVF and flash. The S9 with lens is way too big for a compact camera. Compact requires the MFT camera we have been demanding. The only reason MFT compacts started losing sales was only because of lack of PDAF, and updated video specs. We only ever needed an updated GX8. Heck, I would take an LX100 III, or a G100 II.
Panasonic hoped we would all switch to L-mount. Nope. If I am going to invest in a new lens system it would be E-mount. But I am not wanting to abandon my beautiful MFT lenses. Come on Panasonic, we need more compact MFT cameras. I love my RX100 VII, but I would prefer a MFT compact. Sony proves that little cameras still sell well, if it has good specs an EVF, and good AF.

It's possible to put the S5-II in this body with IBIS so it should be possible to do the same with the G9-II and there is some room left to go smaller or put some features in.
I personally would put an EVF in as most important feature.
I don't think a mechanical shutter is needed. The sensor might be fast enough for a flash sync at 1/50s like in the GM1. I think a hot shoe for sound input would be much more interesting but I don't expect such new features in the small camera. May be in a GH7 or S1H-II.
May be there is also room for some heat management to get a bit longer recording.
A little bit more buttons or a wheel could be helpful.

I thought that it should be for a reason, that g9II and s5II share basicly the same body. It must be cheaper in Production, i guess.
So they probably built the smallest rangefinder FF body, with the s9, they could, to have a micro 4/3 version share it.
So I would say they will not shrink the body of the s9. The question for me is how much space will come free this way?

Same video and audio ports as G9. Enhanced sound capture capabilities if possible.
Target phone users, not existing M43 customers.
Cell phone users mostly don't care about raw vs the jpeg quality from a camera like this, they want simple to use.
Ability to have user preferences for each user, like a windows computer. That way my wife can have her own settings and not mess with mine.

Oh no, please not a removable elf…better tilting like on the gx8/9. And weather sealed + a little better grip like on the gx9, just like on the gx8. Call it the gx10…

@@RhettThompsonFilm to be realistic means to me personally…we need two cams. A GX900(?) as a budget cam…with all the news on mft (sensor, af and so on) but build a bit cheaper - removable evf, plastic housing.
And we need a follow up for the gx8 - gx10, premium build magnesium/alloy housing with weather sealing, tilting screen and evf and so on…

To be honest M3/4 is pretty dead at the moment, much due to the mismanagement and poor products recent years. I really wanted M3/4 to work but given their products in the past few years, many users like myself who likes smaller lenses and body opted for FujiFilm instead, that’s why they are so successful while M3/4 keep changing hands. But I totally understand your concept. And if these companies actually listened to users and buyers like like you, they wouldn’t end up where they are today.
There’s still chance to change, if they would put more resources into it, but unfortunately, camera has become too niche for companies to invest. Seems like some companies are just trying to squeeze any residual value in M3/4 system, while other companies like Fuji and Sony are still dedicated to making products customers want. It’s too bad IMO.

Having used MFT since the GF1 (with its external EVF)- no to an external EVF. if they have to put a tilt/swing screen keap it small enough to include a built in EVF - having that bump of the external EVF was actually more inconvenient than having the flat(ish) top of a slightly taller camera with a built in EVF like the GX7/GX9 - I like the idea of keeping things small but the GX7 was far from big and had a tilt screen so a tilt/swing screen would make it marginally thicker but still compact,
I now mostly use the GX9 and that's probably as big as I'd want it to go, hight and width wise, this still manages to be much the same size as many of the classic film compact rangefinders I use/used -smaller (and lighter by over 130g) than my Leica M3 and M2 and Voigtlander Bessas, smaller than the Yashica GM, bigger than the Oly XA so it's in the ball park of these compact cameras.
That said a model below it as a GMx would be nice just update the GX range first - new sensor/af system, change the ports to the left or just allow pairing to bluetooth mics and headphones , add a full tilt swing screen and give it the same ballpark video capacity as the S9 and I'd be on the preorder list ASAP
