Personally, they should've released 2 options just like they did with the S5 II. The second one being a less video centric version, with an EVF, a mechanical shutter, and just a tilt screen. That's why I don't consider this a Fujifilm V100 killer. It's more of a 1500-dollar web cam to me at least.
The one thing that I hate is no view finder, I purchased my first DSLR 15 years ago because the point and shoot cameras started doing away with the view finder, this is the same reason that I hate taking photos with a phone, the photograph experience sucks.
Beautifully shot review. I def think this is the best choice for beginner photographers over the x100. I think being a full frame interchangeable lens camera makes it exponentially more dynamic than a fixed lens APSC camera. The LUTs are great, but adapting some affordable vintage lenses will give your photography and video a natural unique flavor, that people are obviously craving right now. The full frame lenses they collect will work perfectly with a larger, more expensive camera body if they decide to upgrade in the future.
Thanks Connor..everyone seems to find some great things and a few issues as well. For me the 15 minute clip limit doesn’t make sense, given it seems to be able to run for 4 or 5 15 minute clips with no issues. That said, not really a camera for any one to do long sessions. Seems focused on folks who, want to turn something creative and turn around around in the short term for social media etc. but like any camera, you can use for almost anything if you work around the limitations. I thought DP review stated it well ‘ if you, learned photography using something camera shaped, then this likley isn’t who this was designed for…if you learned photography using something flat and phone like, this is for you’. Suspect most would still find often fun to use at times, which says a lot. Btw I do think the green version was the best choice and produces the best results! Highly subjective perhaps.
Oh yeah the green one actually takes better photos for sure ha. Yeah this camera has many limitations. It was for sure confusing at first, but I agree, this is made for phone users to get their first camera. The weird thing is, it is kinda super capable too. Idk it’s goofy.
Interesting release - as a long time photographer, I can say that at no time in the last 35 years that I I've ever dreamed of a camera that had no flash though. Seems focused more on video shooters on the go - maybe street photographers, as long as they aren't panning at anything. I love the look though - the small rig grip makes it look like Lumix should have out of the design studio. Your review seemed fair, and spot on about 1.5K not being a good price point. I'm a Lumix user and own three of their bodies - I think they missed a large section of the market looking for a compact Fuji alternative.
Yeah I’ve been hearing that the lack of flash support is kinda a big deal. I’ve actually never shot photos with flash, I’ve always favored constant light or natural light. But Cam was saying flash support would have been better.
I love that they added 65:24 aspect ratio. With Fuji I think you have to go to GFX medium format to get it and now there are rumors stating that Fuji is thinking of releasing Xpan model when they could simply add this aspect ratio at least to their 40mpix APS-C sensors. Ridiculous.
My first interchangeable lens cameras were the Zenit B followed by a Nikkonrmat FTN, bought well over 50 years ago. I look back to those days of camera simplicity when I managed without multiple button dials and a menu system. Cameras such as this S9 give me a little hope. Much of the missing stuff wouldn't bother me - I have shot extensively with electronic shutters and the rarely encountered distortion sometimes adds to the artistic look of the photo. It doesn't bother me. I probably would miss having an EVF and would swap the mode dial for an exposure comp dial. But I have enough cameras already.
@@VantaBlackhole not necessarily, it’s not about $200 😅, it’s about the market. I have multiple Camera applications, with S5 II s’ but I am in the market for a EDC that can match my Cameras for a Safety Angle for Event Shooting. Hey! Is it possible to further edit LUT attributes or stack LUTs? I'm trying to visualize if you can shoot video and emulate glow/halation/noise and other cool characteristics within the same in-camera LUT system or does it only messes with the color science? Thanks!
Luts aren't like film simulations, correct? LUTS are built off of VLOG, which doesn't have the dynamic range of a RAW image... Wish they made a system that allowed us to use these cool looks without sacrificing the ability to make some adjustments later.

First, the notion that the only camera worth using is full frame is nonsense, you can take beautiful photos with any camera, using a full frame camera will not make you a better photographer, and for many people that don't print huge photos it won't matter as most people will never photograph events, do a high end photo shoot or print their own work.
