Like you I work with lasers and CNC's in my shop, I use a lot of spray cans also...but recently what I did was buy the new refillable 32 oz sprayer can (no cords, no electrical connections) just unscrew the cap put in your clear and then charge with air from your compressor...( spray cans are now $6.95 each..and I go thru them quickly) it's $29.00 at harbor freight. I only have one right now for the Satin clear but when they come back in stock I will get a couple more for Semi gloss and Gloss. ( maybe flat black cause I go through that a lot also) I can send an image if you like.
Your ideas and examples are inspiring to a novice like me. I'm a retired teacher and am experimenting with woodworking and crafts. My first craft show is in September!
Hi, I am pretty new to Lasercutters and the stuff you can do with it. Frist of all thanks for the great video :) I have some sign designs where I would love to stain wood, but I have two questions about the staining, 1. What kind of Stain should I use? Oil based or waterbased (maybe bad for plywood bc of the would maybe work when drying after stained)? 2. What type of plywood do you use for staining in terms of color? I guess I cant turn a walnut (dark) plywood sheet baby blue with stain..
OUTSTANDING video!!! Love your teaching style. Any tips when using to P2 and what specs to use with blue acrylic would be deeply appreciated. Many thanks!
Great video! Should try dying wood also. Powder dye mixed in denatured or isopropyl alcohol. So many more color options and the colors are very vibrant. Just did a pile of books keepsake box and got lots of compliments.
You better get those made now…school starts in the next week or two, I’m sure! Those ornaments look great! A couple of questions: What do you think was your average cost for materials? What do you price them? Is that $1000-$2000 your total sales or your profit? Any idea of how many people attend the craft show? What percentage of your buyers are you able to up sell to some of your higher priced items? Thanks for the info. I’m trying really hard to justify the purchase of one of these machines and these actual numbers would be very helpful with deciding if we are in similar markets.
Great questions! Obviously, there are a ton of variables. Typically, I sell my ornaments in the $10-$25 price range depending on materials and labor. Not accounting for labor/overhead/etc. it’s about 80-90% profit after materials and consumables. The show I do is a local elementary school and I’d say it’s a medium size foot traffic one. Probably 100 customers or so. What’s great about the ornaments is they usually will buy multiples as gifts or stocking stuffers. Then, once they’ve committed to coming into the booth, by seeing the smaller items they’ll actually look at the higher end woodwork and such. About 30-40% of my customers just get ornaments or small signs. But the rest also get bigger items too. Attaching business cards can get more future projects from the recipients of the ornaments (kind of works as marketing too). Again, loads of variables. But a couple of shows or a some client customization projects (find a realtor or mortgage company) can pay for the machine in my opinion. Best of luck!
I love the file you used for the hardwood multicolor ornaments. Do you have the etsy shop you got them from? Great info here. A great reminder for me on what to do with my laser
How do you go about cleaning up the edges of the laser cut wood so they don't leave soot everywhere? It's super tough wiping off the edges unlike wiping the faces
It’s pretty quiet. I’m able to run it late at night without impacting neighbors or my sleeping kids above the garage. Most will pipe exhaust outside of the house. (Drill a hole like a dryer vent) Asmoke purifier eliminates most of the smell, but you’ll run through filters a lot.
I have another question ☝️ I have looked online and can't find the raindeer ordainment with the Christmas bulbs hanging from the antlers, could you send me a link to that, Thanks Pete
We''ve had our laser for a couple years now........ornaments are always big at Christmas time.....we usually do the custom ones with the names. I see a few that we will probably make ahead of time..... We are in the market for a drum sander for cutting boards and serving trays......How do you like the one you have?
Have definitely thought about adding the xTool F1 to take to the craft show. Will definitely be personalizing for friends and family at least. Love the drum sander. I’ve had it about 5 years now. Huge time saver on so many applications. Doesn’t eliminate sanding as you’ll still need to use a ROS to remove sanding lines. But one of the best models out there in that price range.
You bet. Different tiers based on style. Last year I did the MDF ones at $10 each and they sold out. The hardwood ones are usually $20 and sell out. So that $10-$25 range. Depends on how many layers and material/labor.
One grand a year doesn't sound like "crazy money" at all. Juuuust being honest here. Its an insane time expenditure. I don't think the time versus reward ratio looks very good.
Fully realized I didn’t sell it well there. Just a one day sale, I sell out whatever I have. Usually $1000-$2000 just for the ornaments. More volume would yield more. Biggest reason is it drives more traffic to my booth for selling other higher end items like pictured in the thumbnail.
I find all of your work and videos extremely well done. You take the time to show what you do and give a ton of information. I also find you one of the most honest people out there when it comes to letting us know what you do, how it's done and what profit can be made. You must have sold a ton of ornaments to reach that price. Annnndddd you are right, these being traffic to your booth to buy other things. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the information you give

Excellent tip on sealing the surface of the basswood. I just tried it... and NO Char! Great time saver! 😀

That’s awesome! Have a blast!
Just love love love your videos, your projects, your studio!
On your items list the roller and scraper is the same link. We love your videos!
Beautiful items and great technology. Nicely done, thanks for the inspiration. Stay well.
Much appreciated!

Very cool ideas! Love the depth you get from the layered engravings!
Thanks friend! So much fun!
Really love your videos!! Could you share which one is your best seller? Wooden one or acrylic one? 🥰 🥰🥰
This was great. Thank you for sharing your experience and ideas 💡
Thank you!
OUTSTANDING video!!! Love your teaching style. Any tips when using to P2 and what specs to use with blue acrylic would be deeply appreciated. Many thanks!
Thanks! I just did some trial and error with the xTool website settings for acrylic.
Not sure if it was asked, but I did not see a link for the adhesive you're using. The one you're adding to the back in sheet form before you cut them.

Definitely going to try that! Thanks for the tip!
Great video and a lot of good information... Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Do you not have air assit to help with the char and smoke?

Do you bake your purple heart? It's really vivid!

Great tip’s great video
Great craft show items. Unfortunately the link to the laser machine that you use did not work.
hi do you have to set a offset for the small pieces that fit inside each ofther from different materials or colors?
What brand of adhesive are you using please
Thank you so much for your videos. So helpful….
Awesome job as always, really came out fantastic! How loud is the machine? Also, how much smoke smell permeates out?

What kind of drum sander is that? And what does it cost??
I have a P2 but really struggle with the settings. Could you give suggestions please?
What about running in the garage for fumes with a diode laser? Especially from plastic. I do have air filtration from wen that I need to set up?
I have an in-line fan that pulls the fumes out more plus the built in fan to pump it outside. If I run it at night I use a smoke purifier.
Hi there, I’m new so be kind. I have a question. Can my Xtool D1 pro 10 watt cut acrylic.
Those look great, question ☝️
Are your ornaments 3 inch Dia.
Thanks Pete
They range from 3-5”
I have another question ☝️
I have looked online and can't find the raindeer ordainment with the Christmas bulbs hanging from the antlers, could you send me a link to that,

@@petecreats9280 I can't find it either
Great video, thanks! How much do you see these for?
Thanks! $10-$20 an ornament

A drum sander is a great shop investment and time saver.
Good stuff!
Appreciate it!
Just curious as to what you roughly price those at? My P2 will be delivered in a couple days and looking forward to a new adventure in my woodworking

@@SixEightWoodworksI think if you had said $1,000 in a day, that would have been more specific and gotten the point across better.
