Hey Tim thank you very much for doing this video for me. It is genuinely appreciated! It was great seeing both the watches together and this has only increased my desire to obtain the new 36mm Explorer. I agree with your point that for the sake of variety it would probably be better if my Datejust was in a different colour, however I picked the black as it was my favourite and I wouldn't change it now even if I had the chance. I'm officially on the list at my local AD and might even show the sales assistant this video the next time I visit (hopefully he doesn't think I'm a weirdo lol). Once again many thanks!!
I have a silver dj36 smooth bezel on oyster bracelet and picked up the new explorer 36mm last week. They can happily live together as the wearing experience is different between the two watches. The explorer actually wears a little smaller imo due to the narrower bracelet and 14cm tapper at the clasp. Can't go wrong with either on of these watches.
The 36mm Rolex wears slightly larger than it sounds on paper, in my opinion. I think most of that is due to the case shape and how the lugs taper away from the case sort of like a tonneau or cushion shaped watch. Also, the fact that these are on metal bracelets adds to their apparent size as well.
I had the 114270 and missed the date function. Then I had the 126234 in black, and found it too “flashy” as a daily/one watch collection. I now have a black 126200 with oyster bracelet & smooth bezel, and it’s perfect.
I'm glad you found the perfect watch for you. I have the 126234 black dial with the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet and although I agree it is sometimes a little too "flashy" for everyday wear I love it soo much and have received so many compliments that I would never change it. Instead this video has confirm to me that I wish to add the new 36mm Explorer (an option that wasn't available when I purchased my Datejust) and get the best of both worlds!
@@mazrashid6549 thanks I appreciate it! Do you think they’d be a bit too similar with the same Oyster case, size, and color? Either way, I think the 126234 is great as well.

Snap! I also have the exact 36mm Datejust black dial with the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet and agree that it is perfect! My wrist is just under 7inch. It was me who asked Tim if it made sense to add the new 36mm Explorer or whether it was too samey samey. He kindly responded with this video and seeing them both side by side has just confirmed to me how much I want both! I'm now on the list. The AD actually mentioned that I would have the option of changing the dial colour of my Datejust wherever I put it in for service but I don't think I would. There's obviously a reason I went for the black dial and its because it was the best looking to my eye.
Hi! Looking for my wedding watch and leaning towards datejust36 black with jublie. However, I’m stuck between dome vs fluted.. I want this to be an everyday + dressy occasion. Hence my style is more simple and minimal. I’m leaning towards dome but people tell me fluted is the iconic symbol of date just and that the dome looks inconsistent with jublie. What’s your take after owning the dome bezel + jublie configuration? Thanks!
Thank you for the question, Tom. I really think that for everyday domed and oyster would be best bet. Oyster is just a more robust and resilient bracelet. Jubilee, on the other hand is more dressy and delicate. When it comes to the bezel, domed is once again better for every day use, especially during these turbulent times when watch crime is on the rise. There’s a reason why fluted bezel is iconic, it’s very easily recognizable!! While that’s great for flexing your watch, I don’t think it’s a great option for a watch that you can take on a life’s journey around the world with you. That’s my advice. Cheers
@@TimWrite thank you for the response! Yea, I wouldn’t feel too comfortable wearing fluted bezel in the city during a casual walk due to rising theft. Thanks!!
Domed looks better on the DJ36. I’ve tried on loads of them. If you spend time in joggers and shorts and t-shirts or if you’re just lounging around at home - a jubilee and fluted just looks ridiculous. The oyster is super robust and the domed bezel looks super sporty! I’m trying to get a silver 126200 myself right now.
i got the blue fluted-motif DJ36 (fluted bezel/jubilee bracelet) a year ago July and just picked up the Explorer 36 today! Both watches are absolute Rolex 36mm Perfection.
How do you feel about the proportions of both of these watches. I tried on the 36mm date just...no issues at all with the size - seemed great. Then i went in to try the 36mm TT explorer....it seemed smaller and i had a bit of a sinking feeling about it (still on the list for the steel only). That may sound crazy..i was wondering if its to do with the proportions. Any thoughts?
DJ has a wider bracelet 20mm vs 19mm of the Explorer I. The polishing and the fluted bezel also make the DJ feel larger then it is. But the Explorer in my opinion is a more refined, I’m guessing the updates that happened in the Explorer are going to transition over the the DJ in the next revamp. Here’s the deal: Explorer does not feel like there’s anything on your wrist yet it’s completely legible in all conditions. It’s a watch to tell the time and nothing else. If you are worried whether it’s too small from fashion perspective then you’ve got the wrong watch.
