The Rolex OP is the only Rolex watch I like. I like the simplicity of the watch, it's understated look & the choice of dial colours. I bought a 41mm a couple of years ago & found that it felt & looked too big on the wrist. I sold the 41mm & now have two 36mm & find them perfect.

Actually I think you got this one wrong Michael. The OP is the most quintessential Rolex as Rolex is probably most famous for the oyster case and the perpetually winding movement - hence, oyster perpetual. Everything else you mentioned came later.
It also has a direct lineage all the way back to the 30s with the Rolex bubblebacks.

I think this is - and Rolex actually say so - the essence of the Oyster. You get the movement that is also in the Explorer and the no date Submariner plus 100m water resistance. It's also quite understated if you choose one of the muted dial colours. In a way the green dial is even more of "the essence" as it is the Rolex brand colour. But yes, in terms of good proportions it's the 36mm.

You must have small wrists. 36mm is too small for a man’s wrist even if it is “traditional” so to speak. I think we’ve stepped up in size to 38mm as being the sweet spot. But at the same time I also don’t mind a 41mm. Certainly wouldn’t go anything bigger though.

I am still sad the 39s went away. I find the 36s to be too small for my wrist/height/taste, but the 39s are a sweet spot. That nice balance between sporty and a little bit dressy. For a dress watch, sure. These are not that though. Honestly, 39 on me looks like 36 does on regular people. 41 is just all out sporty looking in the OP style of watch. I think Omega has a nice compromise in the 38mm Aqua Terra. That's why my father picked that one up vs. the 41mm AT, even though he has a bigger wrist than I do and can pull the 41 off quite easily.

The Rolex OP is the most original Rolex you can get. It carries the brands successful innovations O and P on which every other sportsmodel from Rolex is based on, from Submariner to Explorer and also DJ to DD. You can not take the DJ and describe the OP as the non fluted and non date version. These are two different models. In addition to that the OP design is just phenomenal. Nothing that disturbs, very clear and elegant. A watch why watch enthusiasts would love the Rolex brand. Nothing showy and blinky. Just perfection and quality. A perfect connection between a sportswatch and a dress watch. The real essence of the brand. I mean these are the undisputable facts that every watch expert should know before setting up a review. The purpose of the OP is not to collect all type of colors. I mean all other models have colorful dials, too if you include the gold models as well.

Breitling only uses AR on the underside of the crystal. It is really good, perhaps the best in the industry for only one layer of AR.
Now, as far as I know, Rolex only used double sided coating (as on Omegas) on the new Cellini. The new Explorer is using AR only on the underside, but it is pretty bad to be honest, at least when comparing with the AR from other brands.

The DJ fluted bezel is not 8600 USD, maybe 10 yrs ago. I just purchased one 2 months ago from an AD, mint dial, very nice. Like someone said in the comments, I plan to hold onto it forever. It'll make a nice heirloom. The OP is a nice watch but underwhelming. A good deal if purchased at retail price or small premium. I would certainly rock one at retail, especially that green dial. I would pay a moderate premium for the pink dial 41. That one is ridiculous. I am waiting for this market craziness to subside and be able to buy it at 2k over retail. In time, with patience, I believe it will be possible.

The problem with Rolex is that the rip off continues well after purchase. Service for $800-$1000. Even if it is every 5-7 years. It's too much FOR ME. I trusted someone else to service for much cheaper and ending up ruining the dial with water. Get a new dial you say? I was quoted $1,000 + installation. No thanks. Sold it. Replaced with a Glycine 36 Combat Sub for $379. Don't care about prestige of the brand. Rolex makes great watches but FOR ME I can't justify the cost and the service pricing.

While we may not see subs and gat's sitting inside display cases, I wager that lesser models will become present in display cases within a year.

I mean the OP 36mm and 41mm both have the same movement as the Sub no date!. On top of that it’s finished beautifully. I think the OP is a good buy at $6k and 10k. The thing I really like about Rolex is you get the same quality whether you pay $6100 or $20000. Same level of finishing on both. Most brands don’t do this. I personally think the OP is one of the greatest values in watches today.

Used it as a Rolex should be used, it was fairly scratched up and was still able to sell it to a dealer straight away for €13k who in turn sold it for €16k within a week!Absolute madness! Michael, I know you love the club campus. Just wondering if it ever bothers you that it has this sports watch look with a dress watch movement? For me it gives the impression it can take a beating, with its form and 100m water resistance, but it’s really got a movement that’s quite susceptible to shock and magnetism. I believe the delicate alpha movement is really more suited to dress watch forms like the Tetra you’ve mentioned on here before, because it seems more fitting rather than being “a sheep in wolfs clothing”. Just my 2 cents, love the club’s look, I wish Nomos would develop an automatic that was robustly durable to fit it, rather than just making it entry level and sticking in the alpha.
I guess going with this video, what Rolex does. Anything sports, even the entry oysters are all sufficiently durable and match its appearance. Aka it can take a knocking. 30m on the Tetra is appropriate so people don’t swim and jump off cliffs with it, it’s pretty easy to damage the Alpha caliber.

@@chaosad4508 The 41 was Rolex’s internal code for larger OP. There were more OP41 made than OP36 and OP34 combined together, with ratio 4:1. Look at the finishing of OP41. The hour marks are squarish, the crown on the dial is small. It required much less labor to make it. During lockdowns keeping less people at the factory was crucial. I own both, OP41 and OP36 with stella dials. When I walk into the AD wearing those watches:
      OP41 - it’s a nice watch!
OP36 - where did you get that watch?

Im 2 years late but I don't understand the title. The entry level Rolexes are the ones that are worth more. The oyster bracelet is the same in this one than in a 50k one. Meaning the less you pay the more value the watch has because the base technology is already there on the cheapest model.
With that said... they get easily scratched. Specially the bezel being polished, from my experience with an Explorer I 40mm. Oh well, they are built to be worn, but I wore a Seiko SARB for many years that doesn't have many scratches and I doubt my explorer will look as good after half the use.

That is because Rolex, like other brands, uses the "measure number" more as an identification tool rather than the exact size. Also, the size of the bracelet factors in the perceived size of a watch. Case in point: I own an Explorer I 224270 (40mm). Compared to an OP 41 grey dial that I compared with looked much smaller. All in all, the new 40mm Explorer is basically the same size as the old 39mm.
