After ~2 years of ownership and heavy wear, I’ve come to appreciate the 124270’s bracelet as the best feature of the watch. Many claim it’s now too small, however the changes in spec are nearly invisible in the real world. The incremental changes can’t easily be seen with the naked eye, but they translate to a noticeable lift in the wearing experience. It’s damn comfy and I’m happy with it. Glad you’re enjoying yours as well.
I got the call and purchased an Explorer 124270. It looked perfect online and perfect at the AD. It is historic and pure class. After 7 months of ownership I sold it. I really wanted to love my Explorer, but it felt so small and dainty, I hated the 14mm bracelet but hoped I’d get used to it…never happened so I sold it.
@@michaelriera6277 Gotcha. I totally understand. The proportions are certainly off compared to the previous 36mm Explorer. It fits good on my 6.5 wrist, as I’m sure it did on yours as well. But yeah that bracelet taper and dimensions are not for everyone.
@@michaelriera6277lmao you’re delusional, you have small wrists. The Explorer I 36mm definitely fit you perfectly. I wear it just fine with a 7.5in wrist.
Funny, i absolutely love the smaller size. It's a boring and not flashy watch and i feel the small size is perfect for more rugged applications. Funny to hear someone dislikes it for the same reasons i like it
Very interesting on the 32XX movements. I took my OP41 with the 3230 movement in because it was running approx -15 sec per day 2 years after purchase. The watchmaker at my AD said it was running with “low amplitude.” They kept it for 2 weeks and serviced it under the Rolex warranty. It’s now back running around -1 per day.
I had the call recently and picked mine up. I must say that I love this watch, yes it may be perceived as boring and toolish but that is exactly what I wanted. It doesn't shout 'I'm a Rolex please rehome me' from the roof tops either. It feels tough, it's accurate for a mechanical watch and I love that gloss dial and applied markers and numerals. It really is one of the most at a glance readable watches I have. I'm OK with the bracelet taper but each of us has our own preferences and that's a good thing. Thanks for sharing Jack.
I wear this watch for 1 year now (september '23). Got the call from my closest Rolex AD after 6 months. The watch is the most boring watch from my collection, it's perfect. I don't feel the need to buy a new watch
I owned this reference since it came out 2021. I was surprised I got the call a month after it was released in Geneva. The day of its release I went straight to my local AD that morning to ask for one. A few weeks waitlist no purchase history. I wasn’t expecting it really. Totally happy with this reference. I would not go back to the older 36mm unless it’s a 1016 in good condition, if I met my goals and have the money. Personally I’m done with Rolex. I don’t like most of their modern watches. A date just 36mm, 36mm Op, Day Date 36mm white gold, the pre-ceramic Submariner two line 14060 or 5513 are the only other Rolex watches that I like that are somewhat obtainable. I do want a Daytona ceramic bezel in black but at $23k for a $14k watch? Plus the impossible to get at an AD? No thank you. Maybe if it was $17k tops I would try to get one.
Have a 6.5 wrist and can wear a SD43. Had an Explorer which my wife thought was too small for me. I sold the Explorer 36 but think I will buy another one in the future at some point. Such a clean looking underrated piece.
Love that you rock the SD43. Makes me want to try out larger watches on my similarly sized 6.5 inch wrist. The 36mm Explorer is a classic. Certainly smaller by today’s standards but still classic. Thank you for the comment.
you are the second dude online who refers to the 32xx mvoement issues. people generally ignore it cuz they are mostly watch dealers on youtube who want to sell and hide this truth. cheers dog.
Yeah, it seems a lot of people are shying away from mentioning it. It’s hard to ignore these alleged issues if you’re someone in the market for one of the models with the 32xx movement in it. During the buying experience of this watch, it was impossible for me to avoid people on watch forms talking about it. It only feels right to mention it here. Cheers
@@NeoWahNahThat’s hilarious. Imagine buying a luxury watch of any kind and not knowing how to adjust the time. I haven’t heard of that until you mentioned it. Hopefully that isn’t really true haha.
@@JackOnWrist for sure, this is 99% reasons why i stayed away from Rolex (and yes, where I am at you can easily buy a sports model like Explorer 2/Explorer/Air King/James Cameron, etc, easily)
I just got into watch collecting. I've loved watches since I was young but I never had anyone teach me or bring deeper into the world. MAMACOO brought closer to a community and hobby I always wanted to get into more and that is incredibly meaningful to me !
If you wear a watch daily, power reserve becomes irrelevant. I find obsession with specs kinda pointless, as my Casio outperforms my Rolex on paper. So try on the contenders and sleep on it. I tried modern sub next to 14060m reference. Despite the quality feel of modern, the vintage look sold me on older model, specs be damned. I thinks these are highly emotional purchases, so leave reason at home, and go with what makes you feel good. Given most people don’t know what watch is which, feel good about yourself, just like smart shoes or a well pressed shirt.
For those with multiple watches like myself, having a little more power reserve is everything. But in my opinion a time only watch is easy to set and it’s not too much hassle. It’s very annoying having to set a GMT watch after not wearing it for a few days, so a little more power reserve is preferable in that situation.
You’ve answered your own comment, some people don’t wear a watch every day, because they have other watches to wear, For them, power reserve is more important, especially if they’re rotating their pieces..
@@marcusherts9345 I personally plan on wearing this Rolex every day, however, there are occasional times where I will swap it out. Despite the power reserve not being a massive factor, it’s certainly nice to have when I do rotate pieces on occasion.
The Rolex explorer, especially the 36mm, is the most uninspired offering in the Rolex collection. It does not have the wrist presence of a 36mm OP or Datejust. It wears on the dainty side, and the plain Jane design is boring. Any of the other Rolex 36mm offerings have a more aesthetically pleasing design.

The only Rolex I'd consider buying!
How long was the wait?
@@bhuber77 I think it was about six months maybe less.

The clasp and Mercedes hands on the latest model are so good. Old one with old clasp is awful
agreed
Great review man

Beautiful watch
I appreciate your comment. Thank you.
Dont like the fit and symmetry of the 124270. Too aggressive bracelet taper. Wears much smaller than a OP36 or DJ36.
That’s a fair take. I see that viewpoint a lot and understand it.
The old explorer is terrible in comparison to the new reference. For the sake of an extra £1000 get the new reference.

On the fly adjustment? You mean the divers extention?
I don’t think this is really considered a diver extension, or at least Rolex does not refer to it as such on this model.
