I can confidently say at this point that the Twitch channel I had prior to watching Stream Scheme as a school for streaming, vs the Twitch channel we have now. It’s staggeringly different. The numbers haven’t increased dramatically, but they are on the rise to match the rise in quality. Thank you for everything you’ve taught me thus far. You’ve become something of a secret weapon for us
just had my first ever twitch stream last night and started with 4avg viewers and 6 unique chatters because i used your tips. it helps that i was already a mod for one streamer and friends with three, so they joined and i had a few people from their chats join me simply because they wanted to support me, not because i asked. thank you so much for your help! it’s only up from here:)
I have been watching so many of your videos as I start to prep my Twitch streaming and TH-cam channel. All of the information has been so helpful, and I definitely plan to use this information as I go forward with my plans. Thank you!
@@Buddha507 I had some serious family & mental health things come up so I've stopped. Maybe someday I'll try again but right now there's just other things that need my time and attention. I appreciate you checking out the link and I hope you find some awesome content creators to enjoy soon!
As for our experience, we tried to stream on twitch, but nobody would come in unless we started making videos on youtube (thanks to your advice) Step two we had great amount of viewers on youtube streams and still almost none on twitch And only after reasonable amount of time and effort we could do something to get constant viewers on twitch. It really feels better to have a single ecosystem for streams, vids and shorts to grow audience
So happy to finally get a video tackling this in 2022. I always switch between platforms for streaming, but I think I’m coming back to TH-cam for like the 20th time.
Very excited to see the content you'll be putting out on your own TH-cam channel. I've noticed for multiple streamers that I just don't have the time anymore to tune into a 3-4 hour livestream and only understand half of what is going on. I'd much rather sit down and watch a 15-30 minute video if it has amazing entertaining value! Good luck Eljay!
Exactly! Another reason for the shift in focus! They won’t be perfect to start but some polishing and time, hopefully they can make up for people who miss the live streams :)
Huge respect to you calling out the double standard regarding hot tub streams and how little harm they actually cause to users on the platform compared to something that promotes gambling addiction. Great video overall too! I've been debating on if the switch to TH-cam would be worth it since I've already been diversifying my content across YT and TikTok. Twitch seems kinda just like the default for streaming since the viewer experience is still so great there.
Personally I don’t see an issue in growing 3 different platforms and seeing what sticks, I’d hate to put all my streams and videos on TH-cam and then receive 3 copyright strikes or be suspended for some reason. And glad you agree on the double standard! I figured this video was the best for me to finally bring up the idiocy since it reflects so much on the advertisers potentially pulling out.
@@StreamScheme That's a great point! I'm still small so no point in fully committing to just one or two. The volatility with copyright problems on YT is definitely a valid concern. Neither platform is perfect and, like you said, hoping for one or the other to outright fail is a terrible outlook for any content creator to have.
The hot tub can be bad too. There's stories of kids stealing their parents credit card and emptying on thirst trap "content creators". They're just as addicting as gambling, ive seen it happen, paypigs that throw away thousands just for attention, at least with gambling there's a chance you win something back
I was multi-streaming for a number of months! I tested having friends hanging out on all three platforms - Twitch, TH-cam, and Facebook... And I recently switched back to streaming exclusively on Twitch with an affiliate contract. Why? Because Restreaming makes everything more complicated. I understand that in theory it's the best thing to do for early growth, but ultimately I felt like the experience of the viewers that I DID have was a lot worse, and it made my entire process infinitely more complex. (I tried both Streamlabs multi-streaming and Restream.) Now that I'm back to being an affiliate on Twitch, I feel like I can better-focus on growing my Twitch base while also creating TH-cam content - and hopefully getting some cross-pollination between the two, if I'm lucky.
this is what i intend to do. Im DJ so i want to use Twitch for the actual live streams because as was pointed out, people discovering you here is impossible unless you create content which people can come and find e.g. for me i can make mixing tutorials. I was told not to Restream as it divides your community too much, rather, stick with one platform and build on that (unless of course you do have a use to be a creator as well)
I had the same. I tried on both youtube and twitch using Restream but I noticed it was way harder to keep that of both chats and keep interacting with my viewers from both sides.
I have moved more from streaming on twitch and headed over to my tiktok lives, its alot easier to be noticed as its just scrolling and being seen, there is no demanding search to find that one channel you want like twitch, i recommend it to all my viewers looking to get into streaming and the demand of needing 1000 followers means you have to put the work in to be able to have the benefit to go live, so it stops the market being oversaturated to fast :) should look into it for sure! i have 2 million followers and loved ever second of my tiktok lives! also new to your channel and instant subbed! keep up the hard work!
I've been thinking about this so much lately and recently started doing some research so I could make an informed choice, so I was thrilled to see this in my feed! Thanks for reading my mind! 😉
As someone who just starting steaming casually (better-half calls me a hobbyist?), your videos have helped me grow, slowly, but steadily. I reduced how many days I stream, how long I stream, the games I stream, and my content. The games I play are pretty much just background noise/filler. My main focus is engaging with my small community. Thanks a ton for the help man, keep up the great work.
Thanks for the like man. Your videos have helped me so much. It showed me that I was doing steaming COMPLETELY wrong. I still stream on my off days to ‘practice’ my banter with the 1 or 2 followers I get. And trust me, I am so excited to get those 1 or 2 viewers. I have earned one new follower each stream, with return followers (the best kind). Thanks again.
When I switched from twitch to TH-cam I grew so much more and even have a small community now on YT gaming even got a stream with 70 concurrent viewers at one point. But twitch has great features and easier to get monetize rewards.
A few months ago I decided to get back into charity streaming. It was a struggle to decide if I was going to restart on Twitch or begin a new on TH-cam. I decided to use Twitch for the charity side of things. Have TH-cam for the content creation side of things. I hope it works out. If I dont see the growth I want over on Twitch with in a year. I have a plan to move to TH-cam full time.
Just became Affiliate on Twitch, and I'm really excited about my Twitch journey, but I also create TH-cam videos as well (less frequently than I would like right now). Great insights here, I'll be honest I didn't think I would like Twitch as much as I did going in coming from mostly watching TH-cam, but I've fallen in love with the culture, community, and branding of Twitch as a live stream platform. Ideally I would love to have TH-cam be my video creation platform and Twitch be my live streaming platform cause I think they are both perfect with their respective purposes (but innovation is always needed)! We'll see what happens, if Twitch did close I would move over, but in my heart I do hope and believe Twitch succeeds and innovates on par with TH-cam!
Your videos are saving my life. Im new to being a content creator. Im moving to Arizona on February 10th and going live for the first time. Wish me luck!!!
At about 17:00, you talked about shorts on another channel. Paused, gonna go watch all of those. I'm having fun making shorts myself and I need to get into making full videos. This video has been super informative, thank you.
Had to pause the video at 5:39 and applaud you on the hot tub meta vs gambling comparison. I feel the same way about being able to promote alcohol consumption on entertainment platforms, while banning the use of a certain controlled substance (I think you know which one) that is not only far less detrimental to one's health and wellbeing, but has been and continues to be legalized in states all over the country (in the US anyway)
Great video man, as someone who loves content creators both on Twitch and YT, it is proving to be an excruciatingly difficult choice for me to make. The main thing to keep in mind either way is that I want to do this as a hobby, a side gig, I already have a job and have no intention on leaving my career prospects. I suppose it all boils down to: Do I want to focus just on streaming (and hence, choose Twitch) or do I want to do both streaming and creating videos (and hence, choose TH-cam). The thing is even when I boil it down to that, it’s hard, cuz personally I LOVE the Twitch culture, I love being a part of it, and I’d be sad not having that.
Hi! This reply may be a little late but, I think you could also share Twitch stream replay or shorten the replay and post it on TH-cam for TH-cam user to enjoy 😉
I think its almost a year ago that i found this channel and to this day I enjoy watching and just having my mind be opend of the options there are every time. there is no one line. Thanks for all the video's
I've realized that straming might not be for me. I can't keep a regular schedule, and I suffer from burnout rather quickly. I might still stream every now and then though just for the hell of it. I think making videos is a better alley for me because it allows me to erratically work on projects great video eljay!
I am in the same boat, my career is full time and isn't a set schedule and some times of year are more draining than others, and because of advice like Eljay's, I'm thinking I might need to lean heavier into YT content than Twitch streaming as the primary focus. it's actually lead me to consider not always being live to record my content, but rather just hit the record button and go with a more Let's Play approach and publish that content later. (which, admittedly, is the type of content I consumed that got me started on this whole journey.) good luck with your content TCC! we'll find what works for us best!
@@digitalchapel The main thing what people focus on is the fact that youtube requires (arguably) more effort compared to streaming. Videos require editing and proper skill while streaming is seen as "just press go live and people will flock to you" kind of thing. On the other hand, if you're not doing this for profit (as everyone claims) then you shouldn't have an issue putting that extra effort to make good quality content that you can work on at any time flexibly. Wish you all the best with your career chapel! :)
Glad to see someone taking a stance against the gambling on twitch. Even massive celebrities such as Drake are getting promotions now to promote it live. Also, Keep up the great work man. Your advice is always tremendous help for people like us. Been battling siding with either twitch or TH-cam for ever, and, while I still have much to figure out, this video helped me out a lot with figuring things out.
Ok. In all honesty, I saw the 2015 beanie and thought, oh god, I'll probably get annoyed and leave this video behind and never look back. But 30 seconds in and you're not annoying at all, 2 minutes in and I subbed. Large up.
Great video! Thank you for posting! I switched streaming from Twitch to TH-cam recently. I would argue (respectfully, of course) since your livestreams on TH-cam stay on your channel forever, that adds to your channel as evergreen content as well. I'm still getting views on my livestreams on YT from months ago, whereas on Twitch, my VODs would just not exist after a few weeks. You could always download your streams on Twitch and upload them on TH-cam, but I've tried that and they never do as well. YT Shorts have done very well for me too, while they don't add to my hours watched, they bring visibility to my channel. I actually think as a brand new creator, TH-cam is the better starter platform. It's not without its problems but I think it's better for long-term growth. I find a lot of small creators are interested in moving to YT but end up not doing it because they just don't want to change or don't feel like YT is the place for streaming. However, personally I'd want to be at the forefront of YT streaming; that's just me, though, as you said, everyone needs to do what works for them.
Totally welcome to disagree :) Just to clarify a few points. Personally, I don't consider old VoDs evergreen content. The issue being Evergreen means that people will always be searching for it, or the algorithm will always be recommending it. New Creators don't have an audience wanting their old VoDs, Old VoDs aren't algorithm friendly, and nobody is specifically searching on TH-cam for their old Vods. TH-cam is a better platform for a creator who is making Discoverable Video content, such as Short/Medium/Long Format VSEO'd content that appeals to Search Results OR algorithm friendly highly clickable content. (Videos like mine on this channel, AmbiguousAmphibian, PointCrow, SmallAnt, etc) TH-cam Shorts (micro-format content) and VoDs don't fit these categories, so if a creator was going to only stream (which obviously isn't recommended) they would be less discoverable on TH-cam due to the Culture issues and Discovery issues of solely stream-based channels. TH-cam Shorts, for example, have an incredibly low Returning Viewer rate. Most viewers of TH-cam shorts are purely from the Shorts Feed, and then they rarely subscribe or view longer-format content. Whole tests have been done now and found TH-cam shorts do minimal to increase your channel's growth, they are better for engaging a pre-established audience. This is because of a few factors, but essentially Shorts were good for a few months when they first existed, and now they are oversaturated and TH-cam deoptimized they work to increase your subs and returning viewers. This isn't to say you won't get some growth from shorts, but it is minimal compared to making actual videos, and the major downside is Shorts are the perfect example of NOT evergreen content since people don't go back and keep watching them forever, and the shorts feed stops sharing them quite quickly. It has been a good few months worth of research into this topic, and A LOT of discussion with established creators on both platforms. At the end of the day, it is about making REAL discoverable evergreen content and diversifying your growth funnels.
@@StreamScheme Thank you for your response! I actually don't know if I disagree...but I am a new content creator and I'm not very educated in these strategies or the jargon. I didn't know that Shorts don't do much for your channel. I decided to move to TH-cam because my channel on Twitch didn't see much growth and I've always heard you need to create content somewhere else if you want your channel on Twitch to grow. I've been wanting to make videos anyway, so I thought the better move was to go to TH-cam and stream there. While my old VODs aren't getting a crazy amount of growth, they are still getting some views so I suppose they must be getting recommended somewhere. If I search for a game I'm interested on TH-cam, I'll get videos as well as current livestreams of people I've never seen before, including small creators. I've found a few small creators on TH-cam this way, so maybe they're changing their algorithm? I'm not sure if you addressed this in the video, I promise I did watch all of it but I don't remember if you had addressed this. What do you think of Twitch's system where new creators are always at the bottom of the list with zero or a few viewers? I found this extremely discouraging and was never really getting anywhere on Twitch. I was creating content on TikTok and Instagram as well, but still haven't seemed to be able to grow much. Videos on TH-cam was my next step. I just haven't really figured it out yet, I guess!
No worries! To answer your three points: 1. "you need to create content somewhere else if you want your channel on Twitch to grow." Very common, and good advice! The issue is people often don't go into detail about what that other content should be. This has lead to a lot of Creators spending huge amounts of time on things like shorts which get them large views but LOW returning viewers. Not to mention a Short is Micro-Format content, the viewers enjoy incredibly fast content then on to the next, to make a Micro-format content viewer watch a long format stream is INCREDIBLY hard to do, so shorts not only don't increase your returning viewers in a substantial way but if you're a streamer they also don't convet to viewers as well as normal TH-cam videos. 2. "If I search for a game I'm interested on TH-cam, I'll get videos as well as current livestreams of people I've never seen before" I'd say this is because you're a streamer, potentially? Because every test I ran, and everyone I have spoken to has found the same thing, if you search a game say "Dead by daylight" or "rainbow six siege" it only shows me videos of established creators, unless I go to filters and click Live. Most Viewers on TH-cam go there for videos, so they never really hunt down a live stream, this culture could change in the future but for now it means that search discovery for live doesn't really work for new users. As mentioned in the video, if you were one of the videos that popped up on the search results or on the front page, and you converted that person to a subscriber of your channel, then your stream would be recommended heavily to that new subscriber. Sadly Shorts and Search aren't effective at discovery for this. 3. "What do you think of Twitch's system where new creators are always at the bottom of the list with zero or a few viewers?" This is a choice of sorts, if you want to create content on a platform, it is your responsibility to understand the platform and be discoverable. If your only growth tool is "I am going to stream X Game" and that game is Fortnite so you are 13,000 channels down at the bottom, then you are choosing to be undiscoverable. The same goes for Animal Crossing as well, you'd be too far down. BUT if your only discovery method is Twitch, then you look at say Stardew Valley, Raft, etc and you could easily appear in the top 3 rows of VERY active but smaller communities, you could stand out with a good title, clean thumbnail, and actually get clicks. Then you make good content for those viewers, and transition from that category to a similar category that you can now compete in because you've gained a core audience. Taking these steps is a Discovery Strategy, most streamers don't actually have a discovery strategy. They just go live in a saturated category, then blame Twitch's discovery. TH-cam has similar issues with Discovery as well, and you still need a discovery strategy if you choose to move over, but again the discovery strategy is really still just making Discoverable TH-cam Videos, the same as Twitch streamers make Discoverable TH-cam videos to grow. All of this can change, and none of these are me saying 1 platform or the other is better. As I say in the video, the crucial part is understanding YOUR discovery strategy properly, understanding the tools you are using, knowing if they will work, and focusing on creating evergreen content on diverse platforms so you can grow as effectively as possible.
@@StreamScheme I totally agree that people aren't specifying WHAT kind of content to make. I didn't know about any of this micro/short/long form content, or discovery strategy. You've given me lots to think about! Thank you so much for your insightful responses! I really, truly appreciate you laying this out in a really clear, encouraging manner. I can't tell you how many times I've looked for advice and all the response I've gotten was, "Your content isn't good, make better content." I also get a lot of advice from other creators that is basically, "Well, streaming is a grind, you just have to keep streaming consistently and you'll get discovered!" It just doesn't work that way and I'm trying really hard to look for other ways to improve my channel and content. I'm sure your videos help so many others as well, so thank you SO much, seriously.
I’ve just started streaming and been using your videos and tips to help me lately I’m been streaming on TH-cam and started at 5 subscribers and 2 weeks later at 37
bro u r so helpful. I can feel ur passion for streaming and creating content, it’s wonderful. u r srlsy an amazing person. thank you so much ;) hope the best for ur future goals! 💜
I have 11k followers on twitch right now and im seriously considering switching to streaming on youtube now while watching this video, I just feel like if I start putting effort into it, the discoverabilty can pay off so much more
I just commented on your discord about why no one talks much about restream, then you did lol. I am BRAND new, i havent even streamed yet, but thank you for the videos you have made as I will start streaming this weekend for the first time using restream. All of your videos have made sense to me to making a good quality stream. Thanks for everything you do bud :)
Hahaha I’m in your head! Just an important part to note on the topic of this video honestly, I think people don’t talk about restreaming for 2 reasons. First, it isn’t a very sexy topic for clicks. Second, an education creator pushed the idea that multi streaming was damaging for chatters and made it harder to keep people engaged. I don’t know who or why, but it’s a common and accepted opinion with not much backing it from what I’ve seen. Either way! Interesting topic, and glad the videos are helpful! :)
I’ve used Restream for a while, now. And while it’s a great idea, I feel like the experience leaves a lot of be desired. The chat has a lot of problems, mainly on the YT side for me. And It’s become a huge headache, and I’m considering just dropping down to Twitch.
I just wanted to say, I have been watching through a lot of your videos lately and there are still more I need to go through. I made a few videos a few years back, but ended up deleting them, not because no one watched, but because me being unhappy with them in general. After going through a few of your vids I started thinking back to them, and have slowly been understanding my mistakes. So far there are only 3 vids on my channel and with 2 newest and the next few to come I made a lot of mistakes that I would not have thought about in the same way if it haven't been for you, so I will use more and more tips from all your videos to help me. One of the ones I knew about, but did not find a helpful guide for was my mic, but from your video about microphone settings I saw what I was "missing" so hopefully it will be better now. I was considering starting streaming, and in one way I have all the time, and in another I lose a lot, since my work makes me be gone for 4 weeks and be home for 4 weeks, so I decided until I get to a point where I actually have more time to devote to streaming I will stick to youtube and work on the quality more and more. Thank you for all the great tips you have given, they are all amazing.
I love your break down of both platforms . I watch a lot of your videos . I appreciate your knowledge and the content you have provided . Keep going keep growing brother ✊🏾
@@StreamScheme It 100% does! Its something ive really been wrestling with during my streaming adventure and you have defined it in such a clear and concise manner. Its inspiring!
I am, I always multi stream now its the best route to go both platforms at once so you can't go wrong , love the content by the way been watching you for a little over a month now I think and always great quality and helpful for new small streamers like me, keep doing what your doing homie #ShareTheStreamerLove #Dogestreams
hello @Stream Scheme, I've been watching your videos for a long time and I wanted to thank you and your community for sharing your opinions and experiences with us the people that want to start a streaming/YT career, this information is very helpful, no matter how big the amount of info is. With all the info I've digest from your videos, I decided to start creating content here in YT and soon I'll start streaming. thank you for sharing and caring! I'm very grateful!
I think you are doing a brilliant job The thought it greatly appreciated and hope u grow beyond your dreams , I’m setting up to start streaming and you have been a guide
I like videos like this they are very informative. As someone who works a 12 hour factory job i was just trying to stream on twitch on the side so ill just stick with that because i think it will best suit my needs unless i decide to ever try to be a full time content creator. thank you for the advice and keep up the good work.
Great video as usual! I've been streaming on twitch but lately I've been considering going full TH-cam. You brought up a lot of good points which make me think it may be a better suit for what I'm doing. Thanks and keep up the great videos! They help a lot!
this came at such a good time x.x i moved from twitch to focus on TH-cam and it's been going well so far but I've been thinking of streaming again soon and I haven't been sure where to go
I really appreciate how reasonable you go into those videos. I try myself to grow a youtube channel for a non mainstream game, yet is insanely hard to get people to subscribe. At the same time, to get two sorts of potential income (might take years anyways) is the better and more safe way. Hard to decide. I will try the multi stream you mentioned. Thanks :)
I always want to stream on Twitch but I always ended up remind myself that I need to succeed first on TH-cam. Multi-platform is too much if you are not a full time content creator.
I also stream on twitch and in the beginning I downloaded the vod and uploaded it to a youtube channel, but now I upload the whole vod as a highlight on my twitch channel so now it stays on my twitch channel forever
@22:37 We tend not to do multistreaming it as it's against the TOS for platforms. Not a problem if you're new, or maybe affiliate, but I don't think Twitch partners could get away with it. LTT mentions it now and again as he streams his WAN show on YT and Twitch simultaneously. He says he doesn't care if Twitch ban him as it's not his audience and he makes change from it. He knows Twitch needs him more than he needs Twitch. That ties into what you're saying. Getting multiple methods of income frees you to make better work/life choices. p.s. The greenfield content you were referring to dissapearing from from Twitch, it's good practice to setup a YT account and export VODS to there for long term archiving. The downside is a loss in fidelity (YT re-compression is savage af). Best if you can to record the content locally (without any copyright music) at higher bitrate and resolution and then upload after your stream. Easier if you have a 2PC setup. Record full-res on the gaming PC and encode/stream at the max Twitch allows from the 2nd PC. No need for a capture card (see OBS NDI)
Yes, I know the Twitch terms of service. Remember this video is for people deciding which platform to stream on. If they're willing to move to TH-cam entirely, or haven't picked a platform, they likely don't care about affiliate, or Partner status. It is "Evergreen" content and yes, absolutely you should be saving all your VoDs elsewhere but those still aren't discoverable. I mention in a lot of videos that simply recording your streams locally and editing them into high quality content is your best bet for evergreen content. You don't need a 2nd PC, and you shouldn't be streaming with copyrighted music anyway to worry about that.
I just started my gaming channel and have been focused on thumbnail creation. I still suck at them but feel like I am slowly getting better. Only 2 videos in so far. I think eventually I am going to do some streaming and have been leaning towards doing so on TH-cam you definitely bring up a good point on streaming on YT vs twitch. Will have to really consider this thought. Definitely planning to make at least some of my streams into specific videos vs just highlights. Luckily I am mainly doing this in my free time. So not a make or break thing for me currently. One question for you. If you are multi streaming how would you handle chat? Would you try to interact with them all or pick one to direct people to?
Live stream recommendations have exploded in January compared to what they were last year, for me, 10k per month to 200k per month. 40%+ of my impressions for Livestreams are now from recommended.
I appreciate that, I’ve seen similar stats but the issue I think still exists in the culture and how someone with 0 viewers or low viewers won’t be recommended properly. That explosion doesn’t properly account for whether that is established creators such as Ludwig moving over and their subscribed audience being recommended his streams.
As an affiliate myself, how worth it would you say it is to risk multistreaming as a way to gain more viewership? I've heard many affiliates, sometimes even partners, stream on multiple platforms at the same time and are rarely caught
I’d never say to break terms of service, especially when there are safer and more effective ways such as making discoverable evergreen content on Tik tok and TH-cam.
Thank you for this strong information. I will definitely remember your advice and make sure to take notes of your useful ideas. Thank you, will be starting my own stream before this week ends. Stay safe! 👊😁
Damn and this was your Ted Talk. xD Maaaan this was so insightful and such a dope conversation! Thinking about the purpose of content and discoverability is so vital, growing and branding your channel as you solidify your niche and audience. Yeah Twitch is currently best streaming platform bar none but YT is making significant improvements over time. The weakness of YT is it still treats live streams as second class citizens in the grand scheme of things but many people report their channel taking off after streaming so somehow people still find their way there. It always helps if your initial content was pulling in viewers though. I know a small streamer here and he's growing at a slow but steady rate. Growing on Twitch is still easier if you have discoverable content on other platforms than just trying to yolo it. Yeah it is super important to diversify your content and revenue streams..........just like you don't put all your eggs in one basket when you invest. You spread it out so if one stock or company dies, another exists to take its place and minimize impact. Twitch sounds toxic as hell longevity and health wise as far as the work needed to sustain it, I'm not about to be working on holidays or all the times I need to myself to stay mentally healthy (only to lose tons of revenue or money at the drop of a hat). Twitch really takes a lot of active hustle to keep the machine moving and that's why big creators are scared to take breaks for themselves, which long term is not good.
I discovered your channel recently and I have been studying as many of your videos as I can. I have a huge problem with being proactive and doing thing (god i hate procrastination) but I went out and bought a notebook so I can start writing down ideas and jokes. I also appreciate that you are honest about tempering expectations and that is nothing compared to the font of knowledge that you are! I know you respond to comments, so I'm hoping you'll take the time to also answer these three questions I have. 1) - Would you recommend any particular courses on Skillshare for learning to edit videos? 2) - You say that gaming clips / compilations aren't good for TH-cam, but how about Tiktok? Do you think highlight reels would be a good thing to post on Tiktok for a fresh starting streamer/youtuber? 3) - What ratio of content diversity do you think is good for someone to run as a starting streamer? I plan to do three things for the three days out of the week I stream, but they all might appeal to different demographics on my channel. Thank you for creating these amazing educational videos, Eljay!
You can search for a live stream like you would a video; however, you have to click the filter button and select live... it's very hidden, I feel they should make that filter more prominent
Exactly the problem but also the positive. It’s like the Twitch filter from lowest to highest, the majority don’t use it and the question is will they ever use it or will it be a video based discovery system for streamers? And if it is always a video based discovery it doesn’t become much different to Twitch until people have videos that start doing well

I play different games where I have different usernames and profiles, they arent connected. on both games i play (minecraft and growtopia) i wanna stream and make videos. However I don't know if I should have seperate channels for the games or if i should somehow merge them
Haven't been able to catch you live on your Monday streams due to life, but I'll definitely come next week! Love this new video, it's so informative! I've recently started uploading to TH-cam more since I can't stream on a schedule due to college. Honestly, I'm not sure about where I should stream when I come back. I saw your video about it too, but I'm still confused. I do feel that TH-cam streaming might change bigtime soon, so I'm looking on starting back up here. Anyways, thanks for always uploading GREAT videos! Looking forward to the next one :>
One way I've found that's easy to find live streams on TH-cam is just searching a game in the search bar then clicking the live filter button. If I search League of legends for example then click the filter button (Easier to see on mobile) then all league live streams show up right away.
I was able to livestream on TH-cam buy I could use some tips it was my first Time stream scheme should I try again or just wait until I reach a milestone stream scheme
hi mate im really stugglying to set everyting up for streaming mainly camera because i just cant get one atm i just wana do it for fun and having real difficulty setting everything up any tips or any help.
Your videos are incredible man. I’m trying to figure out, as a musician, where’s the best place to stream (youtube or twitch). I know twitch has a decent music following but I haven’t read much on TH-cam regarding it.
I have question, can I make like content videos and stream on youtube but when I get some views and people on stream can I go to twitch or stay on TH-cam?
Hello, Thanks for this awesome video Im looking for any advice if anyone can help me. So I make Halo Infinite content and my subs on YT have been growing and is more active on TH-cam then compared to twitch. When I stream on twitch I usually get to 2 maybe 3 viewers on TH-cam it varies it can be anywhere from 3 to 15 I know this is a dumb question but should I switch back you streaming on TH-cam? Would it hurt my channel? Any help would be nice!
A small community of streamer I hang with, have all been talking about this for awhile. Twitch doesn't have proper sustainability to last.. I hope they realize this.
Twitch is sustainable, it won't be going away anytime soon. The part of Twitch that is unsustainable is the fact it is live content for creators, not the platform, but others will keep joining and filling the gaps if creators stop going live. But as I said, things like gambling streams pose huge risks to Twitch in terms of advertisers, but TH-cam has similar issues and rules. Which is why the video at the end pitches what it does.
@@StreamScheme I may have worded that incorrectly. If Twitch keeps on its current path, such as waiting for DMCA's and allowing content creators to constantly push the TOS boundaries, more and more bigger streamers will see the youtube platform as a way to make better money. But I also believe Twitch is an easier platform to smaller creators to earn money faster, without hopes of a video going viral and such, as they do on youtube. One of my biggest gripes with Twitch is the lack of AD revenue for the amount of people forced to watch ads. Sure there are tools on the creator sides of things to earn more, but with a sacrifice to the viewers being forced to watch ads.
When it comes to multi-streaming i thought you couldn't stream to multiple platforms as affiliate or partner with twitch. For instance i like living on TikTok while on twitch because it helps people find my twitch but i just learned you cant do that bc it violates twitches guidelines. Am i wrong on that or misreading bc I'm scared ill lose my twitch Your video was very helpful also! Thank you so much
This video is about picking a platform to stream on, if people are deciding if they want to move I’d assume they aren’t too attached to affiliate :) But if they want to be affiliate than yes, they can’t multi-stream.
I've been thinking about starting a stream about my guitar workshop and wiring studio. But I've never seen a live stream that wasn't either gaming or someone talking directly to the camera. Is it possible to stream a go-pro style video?

Thank you!

@@botchedgoddess428 oh I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully things get better for you.
As for our experience, we tried to stream on twitch, but nobody would come in unless we started making videos on youtube (thanks to your advice)
Step two we had great amount of viewers on youtube streams and still almost none on twitch
And only after reasonable amount of time and effort we could do something to get constant viewers on twitch.
It really feels better to have a single ecosystem for streams, vids and shorts to grow audience
Somehow you made it to n°1 of all recommended videos for this topic. Very congratz dude! 🥳
Love your full honesty and unbiased discussions. It really breaks the confusion for me and helps me understand both sides
So, so much respect for what you said on the impact of gambling vs. hot tub streams. Amazing video as always!!!

Diversifying is key! :) Sounds like you’ll be fine no matter what!
Your videos are saving my life. Im new to being a content creator. Im moving to Arizona on February 10th and going live for the first time. Wish me luck!!!
Thanks for this! Got me thinking
I’m glad you found the channel, Unbound :)
I've realized that straming might not be for me. I can't keep a regular schedule, and I suffer from burnout rather quickly. I might still stream every now and then though just for the hell of it.
I think making videos is a better alley for me because it allows me to erratically work on projects
great video eljay!
Glad it has helped mate :) Good luck!
(which, admittedly, is the type of content I consumed that got me started on this whole journey.)
good luck with your content TCC! we'll find what works for us best!
I've been watching your videos religiously and they've really helped my channel grow!
Glad to hear :) #earlygang
Glad to see someone taking a stance against the gambling on twitch. Even massive celebrities such as Drake are getting promotions now to promote it live.
Also, Keep up the great work man. Your advice is always tremendous help for people like us. Been battling siding with either twitch or TH-cam for ever, and, while I still have much to figure out, this video helped me out a lot with figuring things out.
I'm brand new to Twitch streaming and I'm glad I found this channel now. Thanks for the great info!
What I like about you is your humility. Thanks for the advice. I'll stick YT for now. 🍻
Finally checked your twitch. Man your energy on stream is inspiration. Dropped a sub there and subbed here around 6months now. Keep it up
Another great video from ya. Cheers for your help!
(Videos like mine on this channel, AmbiguousAmphibian, PointCrow, SmallAnt, etc)
TH-cam Shorts (micro-format content) and VoDs don't fit these categories, so if a creator was going to only stream (which obviously isn't recommended) they would be less discoverable on TH-cam due to the Culture issues and Discovery issues of solely stream-based channels.
No worries! To answer your three points:
1. "you need to create content somewhere else if you want your channel on Twitch to grow."
Very common, and good advice!
2. "If I search for a game I'm interested on TH-cam, I'll get videos as well as current livestreams of people I've never seen before"
I'd say this is because you're a streamer, potentially?
3. "What do you think of Twitch's system where new creators are always at the bottom of the list with zero or a few viewers?"
This is a choice of sorts, if you want to create content on a platform, it is your responsibility to understand the platform and be discoverable.

I like videos like this they are very informative. As someone who works a 12 hour factory job i was just trying to stream on twitch on the side so ill just stick with that because i think it will best suit my needs unless i decide to ever try to be a full time content creator. thank you for the advice and keep up the good work.
Glad the videos been interesting! Hope it wasn’t too long!
Thank you for this video - at the end it all comes down to your goals and where you want to be. What is healthier for your you has a content creator.
At 15:56. Depends. In what way do you mean size? My feet are size 9 (uk)
Great video as usual! I've been streaming on twitch but lately I've been considering going full TH-cam. You brought up a lot of good points which make me think it may be a better suit for what I'm doing. Thanks and keep up the great videos! They help a lot!
If you’re getting lots of subs and views on TH-cam videos, then streaming similar content the channel absolutely suits better :)
Very informative video, good work with it :3
this came at such a good time x.x i moved from twitch to focus on TH-cam and it's been going well so far but I've been thinking of streaming again soon and I haven't been sure where to go
Well I hope this helps with my insight! :)
Yeah, the information is very useful. Even me as a mobile streamer get better at twitch because of these, thanks for making these videos!
Great info! We are a small language learning channel trying grow! 👍
@@StreamScheme thank you for the reply!
Yeah that's one hell of a dice roll to take.
Thank you for this strong information. I will definitely remember your advice and make sure to take notes of your useful ideas. Thank you, will be starting my own stream before this week ends. Stay safe! 👊😁
Great content again ! This level of honesty is pretty rare this days 😉
Glad you enjoyed it! :) - Eljay
I love all of those pics of LinusTechTips haha
Excuse me, Sir 🙏🏻 what backsound music did you use in this video? It sounds so catchy :D
It’s a paid service called epidemic sound :) there is a free trial in our discord and on our site, both in description
Damn and this was your Ted Talk. xD
Maaaan this was so insightful and such a dope conversation!
I didn't know about the gambling streams until large TH-camrs started reporting them. And I agree with you.
Thanks for this video and all it’s info, it was very very useful.
I'm in your asking where discord can I download Stream Stingerit ,and then kick and ban it away than your admin
Very well organized information that revealed important considerations for a decision about which platform from which to stream. Thank you!
And if it is always a video based discovery it doesn’t become much different to Twitch until people have videos that start doing well
Wasn't expecting to see you search Project Zomboid or have my video pass by, what the heck?
What the heck!? Why is this so exciting! :0
I love Project Zomboid, but I suck! You’ll have to teach me sometime properly, love your work focusing search based content and a solid niche!
@@StreamScheme I'd love to help you out sometime! Kentucky is a dangerous place better explored with a buddy system ;D
Man, I really appreciate that, thank you so much! ❤
@@Mattsi No worries :)
how do u go live on youtube??? im struggling to release youtube vids... im not very creative with making thumbnails.. whats a good free program ppl use?? im thinking bout getting my niece to help create them
I play different games where I have different usernames and profiles, they arent connected. on both games i play (minecraft and growtopia) i wanna stream and make videos.
Hope it helps! At the end of the day, whatever platform you choose just make sure you consider the discovery system and go from there :)
Finally, I can rest, thank you Eljay for another great video
Hahaha the countdown is over! Hope it was worth the wait! #earlygang

Can you live stream for example FIFA soccer on TH-cam is there any copyright issue?
hi mate im really stugglying to set everyting up for streaming mainly camera because i just cant get one atm i just wana do it for fun and having real difficulty setting everything up any tips or any help.
Your videos are incredible man. I’m trying to figure out, as a musician, where’s the best place to stream (youtube or twitch). I know twitch has a decent music following but I haven’t read much on TH-cam regarding it.
Man I can't believe I'm sitting here thinking about going hard at youtube gaming and streaming again.
I have question, can I make like content videos and stream on youtube but when I get some views and people on stream can I go to twitch or stay on TH-cam?
13:54 fuckin AMEN brother
needed this thx
Hello, Thanks for this awesome video Im looking for any advice if anyone can help me. So I make Halo Infinite content and my subs on YT have been growing and is more active on TH-cam then compared to twitch. When I stream on twitch I usually get to 2 maybe 3 viewers on TH-cam it varies it can be anywhere from 3 to 15 I know this is a dumb question but should I switch back you streaming on TH-cam? Would it hurt my channel? Any help would be nice!
Great video. Thanks for this
Hope it helps! :) Thanks for the kind comment!
What is that knight game that you’re running through all those courses called??
ALTF4 :)
@@StreamScheme thank you. You’re videos are amazing
When it comes to multi-streaming i thought you couldn't stream to multiple platforms as affiliate or partner with twitch. For instance i like living on TikTok while on twitch because it helps people find my twitch but i just learned you cant do that bc it violates twitches guidelines. Am i wrong on that or misreading bc I'm scared ill lose my twitch
Your video was very helpful also! Thank you so much
This video is about picking a platform to stream on, if people are deciding if they want to move I’d assume they aren’t too attached to affiliate :)
But if they want to be affiliate than yes, they can’t multi-stream.
I've been thinking about starting a stream about my guitar workshop and wiring studio. But I've never seen a live stream that wasn't either gaming or someone talking directly to the camera. Is it possible to stream a go-pro style video?
Do you have any tips on how to kindly set the boundary between fan and friend?
There is a podcast I do called “The Stream Room”
One of our episodes is entirely about that :)
@@StreamScheme thanks this helps a lot 👍
