I think the biggest tip that stuck with me the most from all of your videos is "think of your stream as a show". If you're a small streamer, you can't depend on an active chat to keep going. You can't go quiet if chat is quiet. YOU have to keep your own show going! It's really simple but SO HELPFUL 😌
Thank you for another no B.S., no frills, honest, hard truths, reality based video of tips. Some of these "obvious" ideas can easily be forgotten, reminders of them through encouragement is incredibly helpful.
One of the best decisions I made with streaming was to be less strict with my schedule, aiming for once a week rather than a specific day. When I tried to have a "specific Stream Day®" I ended up taking it way too seriously and was all like "YEAH THIS IS GONNA BE MY THING I DO WITH MY MUSIC WOO" and I would be really downbeat if it was a quiet or not very chatty stream. Being less strict with it has meant I've rediscovered that streaming is the chill, fun thing I wanted it to be again.
@@spaceinvadersaw scheduling individual streams if I can remember, otherwise my discord, socials or using Twitch’s stories. Most of my viewers follow me on something else tbh
I'm glad I have streamer friends who told me about lurkers. When someone comments about lurkers in my chat, I snap back about how we love lurkers. I also sometimes don't like what I stream because I don't get a lot of views, but I don't like the big games like Valorant, Overwatch, can't pay for WoW, despise league. I like smaller or older games. Also I am going to stop recording while I stream now.
Eljay, its STARTLING how much of what you cover in this video has been a topic of conversation within the group chat I have with some content creator homies. We've all been at it for 2+ years now and its totally true, we want to make more cool shit, we want to do stuff that is creatively interesting and has an impact past a livestream. We want our effort to have an impact and maybe take some pressure off of streams so we can enjoy them more. Thanks for always making stuff that seems to resonate with me! Feel better!
A buddy of mine, who streams extremely infrequently, at odd hours, has a subscribers only chat. I was gonna go and pump him up, help keep chat going, but couldn’t afford to subscribe that month. His numbers are so very low. Now I don’t think I have the charisma to stream, am terrified of being perceived and have dysphoria surrounding my voice, but it sure is still a magnetic idea! I’m doing research for a different buddy who is putting the work in now. If I can’t do my own, I can help a friend’s dream! Thanks for the tips!
yes! I ended up taking some breaks from streaming because life and work and the thought of having to grind again wore me down, but I wanted to do the fun part again - streaming! So that's what i'm focusing on now. Just caught up on a couple of your other recent videos (it was my first thought-what's new from eljay about this stuff?) and I'm so relieved that my instincts are paying out! Just getting back into the show, the fun, the chatting, reviewing my streams - then improving them and going from there to generate other content in due time.
The hardest part for me is that I don't have a gaming pc and can't afford one. I have a laptop but it's old and the streams from it are super laggy and bad so I just stream directly from console. But because I do that I can't have all the background music and bells and whistles that make peoples streams usually stand out and look more official. I feel stuck and don't know what to do other than what I'm already doing. It feels like if you don't have a bunch of money you're pretty much screwed which is a feeling I hate
Thank you for another insightful video! I can imagine several of these things are valid for TH-cam streaming as well, if not everything. Be YOU instead of someone else Learn from others (instead of judging others) Make sure streaming stays fun for you. It will show in the stream :) Having a good balance between streams on one hand and other content on the other is an excellent advice! You have to make sure you don't get a burnout from all the content making & streaming.
When I first started I used follower only mode thinking it would make ppl follow but it was quite the opposite, then I realized I insta leave ppl who have follow only mode on. You have to imagine your self as a viewer. Now I shut off viewer count and just do what I’m gonna do
A great video as always. I would add my 2 cents into the cup. Throw new ideas at a wall and see what sticks. If something sticks, improve it. If it doesn't stick, improve it! Actually care about what you produce: If you don't want to watch your own streams and youtube videos, it shows.
Hey! (sorry, had to get your attention somehow) It's only been a week since I started streaming, but I feel like I have to give thanks where it's due. As a result of watching somewhere around 10 of your videos, I not only managed to setup my OBS in a way that is pleasing on the eyes; but I also gained a lot of confidence when it came to streaming to 0 viewers(as I've had to do for at least the first hour of my streams). I've only received a few viewers over the last couple of days but 80% of them have followed and came back to the following streams. I even noticed that I've gotten my first lurker, who's only sentence has been "gn!". I think my high retention rate which allowed me to average 4-6 viewers for tonight's stream, is because of your videos helped me set things up in a way that people are likely to stick around. Not only that, I feel like I've gotten closer to the viewers who first stopped by a few days ago, and that they will stick around for the future largely because of the tips I've picked up from your channel. Streaming to only a few people has greatly improved my mood while gaming(and in general), and I probably wouldn't have started if I hadn't come across your channel. So, thank you!
As always, great video! I need to work a lot more on my TH-cam channel... I've only been streaming 5 days a week, and uploading a short here and there.
Hey, Eljay - thanks for all the tips - been subbed and liking awhile now, first comment. I'm looking to get started streaming on PS5 in the next week or so. Using likely just the PS5 (unsure if my laptop can handle things and bypassing the purchase of a capture card til things are rolling), and possibly Lightstream. My first game to stream will likely be Diablo 4, but I may do something earlier to get my feet wet. Any advice on things you would recommend in this situation is hugely appreciated. The personable component is huge, and something I excel at. At this point, should I just consider streaming to TH-cam only, or do twitch/others as well. I think I'd like to edit these livestreams down after the stream and have them as content as well - any cheap/free editing tool recommends are appreciated Thanks again, brother - have a good one!
Posted my first short last night of me getting kicked in my first csgo ranked match and it’s already gotten 300 views, keep in mind I’m a no one with no subscribers and one poorly done TH-cam video. So I am through the fucking roof. I hope to find some good ol boys to play with soon cause this game is definitely pain incarnate
The irony of the first sentences of the video being that in another video you told us we had to get an audience on youtube or tiktok before streaming 😅
I find with my 50-60 sec. shorts do not do so well. My long shorts barely get high hits. 15-30 sec videos seem to stay in the number and 14> seem to not bring people around. Am I doing something wrong or is it just the content I am in? all answers are welcomed and Thank you before hand. Thank you for your videos. They have been a big help in this content creator journey I have stepped into.
After looking, almost none of your shorts have a hook, or pay off. I’d revisit your entire strategy, editing, etc and push yourself to learn how to create a higher quality short that keeps someone watching.
I’m not sure, I stepped away to focus on family, Reapz and Nick said they would decide how they wanted to continue. But I think Reapz has had so much success focusing on his TH-cam he decided to stick with that.
I played guitar in a band and we would always play the songs different haha. It was just so boring doing the same thing again and again, even if that's better for viewer retention

hahahahah i felt that so much. “I’m a full grown man I meet like 3 people a year and can only handle 2 at a time.” Learning to respond in public virtual spaces to people has been a nightmare for me but I have it under control.
Easy mistake to make, mate! Not going to make fun of you, or have a go despite you doing that. I don't name it in the description because if you do the video can be suppressed in the algorithm and sometimes has to be checked over a bit. Keywords do a lot to change how the videos go out, and mentioning topics such as health, finance, etc that are important in the description can effect that reach. Hope you have a great day! Hope that helps you understand why I didn't name it!
