Those 2.0 diesel engines in "small" cars are fun to drive man! They might not be as fast on the straight line as petrol counterparts, but those low revs pulls when you feel the torque are

@@senoow4215 i prefer manuals. The most enjoyable cars in that class for me are/were manual gtd mk 7/7,5 and megane (II) rs dci. They are quite rare, but few weeks ago I drove remapped rs dci and the thing flies like mad. Would really like to try remapped gtd tho. From 100 km/h i guess it's trouble on four wheels. Cheers.
Yeah, I drive Mk6 2.0 TDI and it has loads of torque. It's a light car and pulls like crazy for 140hp

I just love this car. 200hp for a normal consumption under 7l / 100km. Really efficient AND funny and easy to use. Powerful as well just when you need it. Thank you, you did a gaddamn top video 👍👍
If I'm correct, this engine should be similar to the engine of the mk7 GTD. Vw just changed minor things due to emissions and tweaked the engine software for a bit more power (184 -> 200hp & 380 -> 400nm torque)
Tuners were able to push out about 240hp and 480 to 500nm of torque out of these engines. With those power figures it was possible to do 100-200km/h in 19 to 20 seconds. So 20.1 seconds for a stock GTD is not bad at all!
I wonder what these new GTD's can do after a remap, power and 100-200km/h time wise.
Indeet it is, but it is now called a EA288 evo and has many lightweight components now.
@@Charlimike24 Heard its an aluminium block now, but when I compare the 'empty weight' of my Passat B8 to a B8 EVO. The EVO is almost 60kg heavier for some reason. I doubt the double SCR inject system adds that amount of extra weight.
I have a 1.6 TDI and made a custum exhaust with DPF & CAT delete those components weight more tham 30 kg....so i bet with the dual scr even more

I love the fact you talk about leasing offers and price in general. And I'm sure the tyres were limiting here. It was very noticeable how much it struggled like you already said. Optimistically, I'd say 7.2s in good conditions.
Autotop NL did it in 7.1 seconds. GPS measured

Shorter gear ratios ( 100km/h in 4. gear), monster torque and FWD = wheel spin. It would be much more effective with AWD.
Škoda did the 4x4 with this same 2.0 TDI in the Octavia RS

We need to see an acceleration test with summer tyres so that we will see no wheelspin and I'm sure that it will easily make the claimed 0-100km/h in 7.1 secs. VW usually are conservative when quoting acceleration figures.
There still will be frontspin. No matter what tyres you'll have.
My 2013 Seat Leon FR 184 TDI was a dream on the motorway with the torque and with the remap it was even better. Alot better than my Cupra on the motorway

I love my mk7.5, as it's got shed loads of torque! And I'm all about the torque.
It's a shame that every manufacturer always talks about the BHP/HP/KW, but never about the torque. Because torque is a lot more important than BHP.
The only problem with the 8 is that it's got touch controls for the heating/AC n other bits. What's wrong with a good old dial n button? Because when your driving, you can feel for the buttons. I know it's got voice control, but I bet you'll soon get pissed off with it n end up taking your eyes off the road to look at a screen.
It'd be great if they put loads of 80's looking buttons and switches in.
Was mir gerade noch beim 2. Mal auffällt: zwischen 2 bis 2,2 Bar Ladedruck. Krass. Die 7er haben so 1,7 bis 1,8 bar ab Werk gemacht.

Maybe you have to try out the manually shift padels, it seems that the rpm limiter stays to long at the max
so golf 6 gtd goes 8.1 with 170hp and this golf 8 goes 8.1 too?

From the audio inside the car, the car doesn’t sound too bad. Guessing it’s fake noise pumped in but I’m a fan
I have the 2021 VW Caddy which has been remapped to pretty much same spec (200hp and 430nm) and if you launch it in "manual" mode and switch to 2nd pretty much right when you let go of the brake you will shave off another 0.2s since it wont stay in 1st revving the hell out of the engine
Really needs AWD. The new Skoda Octavia VRS TDI has the same engine but can get it with AWD. A good remap and it would go like stink.

Ich hatte einen 7er GTD auch mit 19" Felgen und Panodach. Der fuhr nicht unter 24sek 100-200. Insofern finde ich die Zeit recht anständig. Klar, diese Sprints auf der Autobahn gehören nicht zu seinen großen Stärken, dennoch reicht es aus, um zügig unterwegs zu sein.
20 Sekunden ist nebenbei eine Zeit, die ein Polo GTI fährt.
Wenn man die Zeiten des Golfs 8 anguckt, habe ich etwas bange vor der Zeit des R's 😅 ich fürchte, dass er trotz Allrad mind. die gleiche Zeit wie mein Leon fährt 😄👍🏻
Vergiss es 24s im 7er gtd zu fahren der fährt serie 28s , 24 ist einfach unmöglich und ich hab schon 1000 so viele gesehen
@@Phantom-vn3nz Ich muss dazu sagen, dass 24sek keine GPS Zeit war, sondern bei 205Kmh mit Hand gestoppt. Bin von keiner größeren Tachoabweichung ausgegangen.

Do a 100-200 with a GPS device (Dragy for example). You will probaly be doing 25 seconds.
I have an mk7.5 and based on how they overdid the tech in this thing I won’t be getting an mk8.. I want buttons to push, knobs to turn, etc. Why do they think this is what we want?
@@jtkent28 The mk7(.5) is probaly the best Golf so far. Dont you have a Discover Pro though? In the mk7.5 it hasnt buttons or knobs either unless its the Discover Media.
I had a Mazda 3 2.2 Diesel 185 BHP and it could hammer GTDs ..but this one could be a different story..

I just checked the acceleration of a Mazda 3 2.2 diesel with remap, which had 220hp. It did 100-200 in 20 seconds on the speedo. This one did 20.1 seconds on GPS.
You will be able to keep up, but its a fact this car is quicker.
Dont get me wrong, Mazda makes decent and reliable cars, but when it comes to diesel engines. No one can beat the Germans.
I wish we got the GTD over here in the USA. I would totally buy one (I own an mk7.5 GTI) We will only be getting the GTI / R for the mk8, no regular Golf for us. I’m sure after the mk8 we won’t get anymore at all in the USA. People only want boring SUV’s & crossovers over here now, it sucks. I miss the days where hot hatches and sport sedans were the cars we all wanted.

The Volkswagen Golf 8 has the most engine options out of any other model. I guess then that the Golf is Volksagens new flagship car and the successor of the Beetle.
20,6 ist „schnell“ für 100-200, der Vorgänger war locker 5 Sekunden langsamer. Hätte ich nicht erwartet bei nur 16PS mehr :-)

Knowing Vw, this car probaly has 210hp and 420-430nm torque.
The 100-200 time is quite similar to a remapped mk7 gtd.
@@ThenameisOskar At least, had an Seat Ibiza with 200HP 2.0 TDI a few years ago, was about 23s 100-200. So 210-220hp is realistic. :-)

I know this video is about the performance.. but man I can't get over what would possess a designer to make dual exhaust on the same side aesthetically speaking. Just looks so much nicer putting one on each side.
Vw wont do that because thats one of the characteristics of the GTI. Just like 2 on both sides for the R.

Mr. automann-tv: if you could do some head to head comparisons, that would be great. For example: this gtd vs petrol car in the same class with the same power (308 gt thp/ ceed gt...).
Im dissapointed. Got the GTD a few months ago and to call this a "sports car" is not right. 200 hp is an ok number but for me not sportscar like. Sure 420nm is a lot but for me doesnt finish the job of a sports car. Next time i would choose the gti if you like it a lil bit faster, but the GTD is great if you dont have a lot of money and want to save money on gas.

-_- 200hp for the DPF filter :D ......the old 184hp 0-100 in 7.05sec. best run 6.7.... my old A3 8P quattro 170hp best run 7.2sec.
7 seconds 0-100 stock? The best ive seen is 6.5 seconds on speedometer, on gps that would be low 7 seconds. Those figures are off a remapped MK7 GTD though...
Quattro/haldex is better at 0-100 due to more grip. FWD and alot of torque is a bad combination
Why don’t you test the top speed of the golf 8 gtd?
The front wheel drive layout kinda ruins it for me, I'm sure it would be lots of fun if it was rear wheel drive or all wheel drive, especially with all that torque.

The new Skoda Octavia VRS diesel will come with optional all wheel drive.
Fwd is a lot lighter than awd. Litteraly every fwd hot hatch is "billion" times more fun and more enjoyable to drive than any awd hot hatch. I've had much more fun in my mate's golf 5 gti on a twisty road than in a rental 7 r we drove in Podgorica. From my own experience this is a fact... If you ain't launching it all the time, awd is just unnecessary added weight that spoils handling and fun factor.
Also rwd isn't as much fun as a focused fwd hot hatch (if you don't like drifting all the time).If you just love driving quickly on a twisty road without any fuss, fwd is way more superior. I don't find rear end being loose all the time fun at all, some people love to go through corners without ever thinking if their rear tires are going to break traction, including myself. Also modern focused fwd hot hatches don't have any more understeer than rwd cars if you push them to the limit. Also it's a fucked up myth that fwd cars have a lot of undeerster, some might, but most just like a mk5 gti I drove quite a bit doesn't have any, you need to push the car to the extreme limits to get any understeer, while with a rwd sporty car you can break traction at any time and it just slows u down.
Dsg here hesitated in changing gears and acceleration are actually same as with 150hp version

Stock intake is fine for 250hp. Removing the DPF can help gain some power. A hybrid turbo should help you reach 300hp.
Yea right 350. Look at DarksideDevelopments Golf mk7 gtd maxed at 286hp due to mechanical restrictions of engine

They do max. 240hp ish with dpf still in place. Intake for that engine makes no diffrence. Be aware that 240hp means egt +950, so pretty hot.
@@Charlimike24 Someone I know had a 240hp tune on his mk7 gtd. He drove it with that map for over 100k kilometers. Nothing melted or any issues. Are you sure you reach 950c EGT with such mapping?
I got a 2.0tdi 150hp (EA288) in my Passat running at 206hp (162hp before it got remapped). How high is the EGT you reckon?
With the 100-200 measurement it goes downhill!
Please also measure GPS top speed with DriftBox!
100-200 ist wirklich gut. Mein 184er Leon mit 220 PS braucht sogar ne halbe Sekunde länger.

@@Automann-TV Serie sind die 7er GTD ja meistens Richtung 25s gefahren. Meiner damals 23,5s, weil gemessene 192 PS und 399Nm bereits anlagen. Deswegen finde ich die von Dir gemessene Zeit wirklich gut.

The sound insulation is rather poor, can hear loads of road and tyre noise.

8.2s for 0-100 km/h is not a good thing, especially for a GTD. A lot of bigger sedans with a 2.0 diesel engine can achieve a lot better record.

Ein super Auto! Nur die Bedienung per Touch und den verschachtelten Untermenüs ist schlecht gemacht. Das wird auch von der Fachpresse (die Kenner wissen, wen ich meine) immer wieder bemängelt. Wenn VW das ändert, macht man mit dem Erwerb eines Golf 8 nicht viel falsch.

How far the technology have gone since 1.9 TDI....I remember my Leon 1M ARL 150hp/320 Nm and it was fast and cool (at his time), to be able to get 230hp/420 Nm a have installed a 2056 hybrid turbo and big nozzles. And now you get a stock car with this numbers. This is sadly and joyfully both.

From 0-60 f30 320d (190hp) beats the gtd . From 100 kmph - 200 kmph almost identical
For sure RWD, better traction, xDrive perfect also.
Alot of torque and front wheel drive is a bad combination, especialy with small wheels. My 2.0tdi 150hp's 0-100km/h time is still the same after a st1+ remap due to alot of wheelspin. 😂
I havent measured 100-200 with Dragy yet, but 50-120km/h was 3 seconds quicker compared to stock.

Sounds like the agricultural lump that it is. However, if you look after good economy and everyday decent performance it is ok. Why is launch control slower?
Not a car expert maybe because of keeping car at the high revs not letting the dsg shift quicker for high torque at lov revs for the diesel engine
